This paper presents a new solubility optimal system to improve the efficiency of supercritical fluid extraction (SFE). The major contribution is a nonlinear temperature-pressure decoupling model constructed with unequal-interval grey optimal models (UEIGOMs) and Peng-Robinson models (PRMs). The linear parts of temperature and pressure process can be constructed with UEIGOM, respectively. The nonlinear parts of temperature and pressure process can be described by PRMs, respectively. The whole nonlinear model cannot be input-output decoupled resulting from the singularity of decoupling matrix for PRM. This problem on input-output nondecoupling can be transformed to the problem on disturbance decoupling for a class of MIMO nonlinear systems. Therefore, the whole nonlinear coupling model can be disturbance decoupled. Furthermore, solubility optimal method is presented in the paper; it can calculate the optimal pressure according to the given temperature, namely, optimal working points, to maximize solubility for SFE process. The feasibility, effectiveness, and practicality of the proposed nonlinear temperature-pressure decoupling model constructed with UEIGOMs and PRMs are verified by SFE experiments in biphenyl. Experiments using the designed solubility optimal system are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness in control scheme, simplicity in structure, and flexibility in implementation for the proposed solubility optimal system based on a new nonlinear temperature-pressure coupling model constructed with UEIGOMs and PRMs.

This paper deals with a design problem of an adaptive robust controller for a class of nonlinear systems with specified input saturations. For the nonlinear system under consideration, the nonlinearity means unknown perturbations and satisfies the matching condition. In this paper, we show that sufficient conditions for the existence of the proposed adaptive robust controller giving consideration to input saturations are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, simple illustrative examples are shown.

Methods of utilizing independent component analysis (ICA) give little guidance about practical considerations for separating single-channel real-world data, in which most of them are nonlinear, nonstationary, and even chaotic in many fields. To solve this problem, a three-step method is provided in this paper. In the first step, the measured signal which is assumed to be piecewise higher order stationary time series is introduced and divided into a series of higher order stationary segments by applying a modified segmentation algorithm. Then the state space is reconstructed and the single-channel signal is transformed into a pseudo multiple input multiple output (MIMO) mode using a method of nonlinear analysis based on the high order statistics (HOS). In the last step, ICA is performed on the pseudo MIMO data to decompose the single channel recording into its underlying independent components (ICs) and the interested ICs are then extracted. Finally, the effectiveness and excellence of the higher order single-channel ICA (SCICA) method are validated with measured data throughout experiments. Also, the proposed method in this paper is proved to be more robust under different SNR and/or embedding dimension via explicit formulae and simulations.

This paper focuses on the filtering problems of nonlinear discrete-time stochastic dynamic systems, such as the model simplification, noise characteristics uncertainty, initial conditions uncertainty, or system parametric variation. Under these circumstances, the measurements of system have one sampling time random delay. A new method, that is, strong tracking filtering algorithm of randomly delayed measurements (STF/RDM) for nonlinear systems based on recursive operating by analytical computation and first-order linear approximations, is proposed; a principle of extended orthogonality is presented as a criterion of designing the STF/RDM, and through the residuals between available and predicted measurements, the formula of fading factor is obtained. Under the premise of using the extended orthogonality principle, STF/RDM proposed in this paper can adjust the fading factor online via calculating the covariance of residuals, and then the gain matrices of the STF/RDM adjust in real time to enhance the performance of the proposed method. Lastly, in order to prove that the performance of STF/RDM precedes existing EKF method, the experiment of tracking maneuvering aircraft is carried out.

For nonlinear discrete-time stochastic systems, a fuzzy controller design methodology is developed in this paper subject to state variance constraint and passivity constraint. According to fuzzy model based control technique, the nonlinear discrete-time stochastic systems considered in this paper are represented by the discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models with multiplicative noise. Employing Lyapunov stability theory, upper bound covariance control theory, and passivity theory, some sufficient conditions are derived to find parallel distributed compensation based fuzzy controllers. In order to solve these sufficient conditions, an iterative linear matrix inequality algorithm is applied based on the linear matrix inequality technique. Finally, the fuzzy stabilization problem for nonlinear discrete ship steering stochastic systems is investigated in the numerical example to illustrate the feasibility and validity of proposed fuzzy controller design method.

This paper considers controller parameterization method ofH∞control for polynomial Hamiltonian systems (PHSs), which involves internal stability and external disturbance attenuation. The aims of this paper are to design a controller with parameters to insure that the systems areH∞stable and propose an algorithm for solving parameters of the controller with symbolic computation. The proposed parameterization method avoids solving Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs equations, and thus the obtained controllers with parameters are relatively simple in form and easy in operation. Simulation with a numerical example shows that the controller is effective as it can optimizeH∞control by adjusting parameters. All these results are expected to be of use in the study ofH∞control for nonlinear systems with perturbations.

The dissipative delay-feedback control problems for nonlinear stochastic delay systems (NSDSs) based on dissipativity analysis are studied in this paper. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory and stochastic analysis technique, both delay-independent and delay-dependent dissipativity criteria are established as linear matrix inequalities- (LMIs-) based feasibility tests. The obtained results in this paper for the nominal systems include the available results onH∞approach and passivity for stochastic delay systems as special cases. The delay-dependent feedback controller is designed by considering the relationship among the time-varying delay, its lower and upper bound, and its differential without ignoring any terms, which effectively reduces the conservative. A numerical example is given to illustrate the theoretical developments.

This paper studies the stabilization problem for a class of unified chaotic systems subject to uncertainties and input nonlinearity. Based on the sliding mode control theory, we present a new method for the sliding mode controller design and the control law algorithm for such systems. In order to achieve the goal of stabilization unified chaotic systems, the presented controller can make the movement starting from any point in the state space reach the sliding mode in limited time and asymptotically reach the origin along the switching surface. Compared with the existing literature, the controller designed in this paper has many advantages, such as small chattering, good stability, and less conservative. The analysis of the motion equation and the simulation results all demonstrate that the method is effective.

This paper investigates the input-to-state stable in the mean (ISSiM) property of the switched stochastic nonlinear (SSN) systems with an improved average dwell time (ADT) method in two cases: (i) all of the constituent subsystems are ISSiM and (ii) parts of the constituent subsystems are ISSiM. First, an improved ADT method for stability of SSN systems is introduced. Then, based on that not only a new ISSiM result for SSN systems whose subsystems are ISSiM is presented, but also a new ISSiM result for such systems in which parts of subsystems are ISSiM is established. In comparison with the existing ones, the main results obtained in this paper have some advantages. Finally, an illustrative example with numerical simulation is verified the correctness and validity of the proposed results.

Although polynomial NARX models have been intensively used in nonlinear system identification, few papers discussed how to relate the inner nonlinearities to specific types of clusters and regressors. The objective of this paper is to discuss this relationship for a class of systems that contain even or odd nonlinearities. This class covers block-structured models (Hammerstein, Wiener, and others) and systems with dynamic nonlinearities. To achieve the paper’s aim, a deep frequency-domain analysis is performed. For each type of nonlinearity, all the NARX clusters are investigated and the results show that each regressor type provides specific nonlinear contribution. The investigation is based on an output power spectra analysis when a specific multisinusoidal excitation is applied. According to the spectral contributions in some of the frequency lines, the nonlinearity classification is possible. By applying the same procedure to the clusters, one interprets how these clusters can (or not) contribute to explain the system nonlinearity. The paper findings have two major impacts: (i) one gains deep knowledge on how the nonlinearities are coded by the clusters, and (ii) this information can be used, for instance, to aid a structure selection procedure (ERR, term clustering, etc.) during the discarding of the clusters which are not able to explain the system nonlinear behavior. Some practical and experimental aspects are discussed, while numerical examples are presented to show the validity of the theoretical analysis.

This paper is concerned with the problem of delay-dependent robust stability analysis for a class of uncertain neutral type Lur’e systems with mixed time-varying delays. The system has not only time-varying uncertainties and sector-bounded nonlinearity, but also discrete and distributed delays, which has never been discussed in the previous literature. Firstly, by employing one effective mathematical technique, some less conservative delay-dependent stability results are established without employing the bounding technique and the mode transformation approach. Secondly, by constructing an appropriate new type of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional with triple terms, improved delay-dependent stability criteria in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) derived in this paper are much brief and valid. Furthermore, both nonlinearities located in finite sector and infinite one have been also fully taken into account. Finally, three numerical examples are presented to illustrate lesser conservatism and the advantage of the proposed main results.

This paper outlines a methodology to study the stability of Takagi-Sugeno's (TS) fuzzy models. The stability analysis of the TS model is performed using a quadratic Liapunov candidate function. This paper proposes a relaxation of Tanaka's stability condition: unlike related works, the equations to be solved are not Liapunov equations for each rule matrix, but a convex combination of them. The coefficients of this sums depend on the membership functions. This method is applied to the design of continuous controllers for the TS model. Three different control structures are investigated, among which the Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC). An application to the inverted pendulum is proposed here.

The paper proposes a procedure for design of PI controllers for hydraulic systems with long transmission lines which are described by models of high order. Design is based on the combination of the IE criterion and engineering specifications (settling time and relative stability) as well as on the application ofD-decomposition. In comparison with some known results, the method is of graphical character, and it is very simple (solving nonlinear algebraic equations is eliminated). The paper presents the algorithm of software procedure for design of the controller. The method is compared with other methods at the level of simulation, and its superiority is shown. By applying the Nyquist criterion, it is shown that the method possesses robustness in relation to non modelled dynamics.

Continuous-time recurrent neural networks (RNNs) play an important part in practical applications. Recently, due to the ability of assuring the convergence of the equilibriums on the boundary line between stable and unstable, the study on the critical dynamics behaviors of RNNs has drawn especial attentions. In this paper, a new asymptotical stable theorem and two corollaries are presented for the unified RNNs, that is, the UPPAM RNNs. The analysis results given in this paper are under the generallyP-critical conditions, which improve substantially upon the existing relevant critical convergence and stability results, and most important, the compulsory requirement of diagonally nonlinear activation mapping in most recent researches is removed. As a result, the theory in this paper can be applied more generally.

This paper is concerned with an integral terminal sliding mode tracking control for a class of uncertain nonaffine nonlinear systems. Firstly, the nonaffine nonlinear systems is approximated to facilitate the desired control design via a novel dynamic modeling technique. Next, for the unmeasured disturbance of nonlinear systems, integral terminal sliding mode disturbance observer is presented. The developed disturbance observer can guarantee the disturbance approximation error to converge to zero in the finite time. Subsequently, based on approximated nonlinear model and the designed disturbance observer, the integral terminal sliding mode tracking control is presented for nonaffine nonlinear systems with uncertainty. Different from traditional terminal sliding-mode control, this paper accomplishes finite convergence time for nonaffine nonlinear systems and avoids the singular problem in the controller design. Furthermore, the control system is forced to start on the terminal sliding hyperplane, so that the reaching time of the sliding modes is eliminated. Finally, two numerical simulation results are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper investigates the problem ofpth moment exponential stability for a class of stochastic neural networks with time-varying delays and distributed delays under nonlinear impulsive perturbations. By means of Lyapunov functionals, stochastic analysis and differential inequality technique, criteria onpth moment exponential stability of this model are derived. The results of this paper are completely new and complement and improve some of the previously known results (Stamova and Ilarionov (2010), Zhang et al. (2005), Li (2010), Ahmed and Stamova (2008), Huang et al. (2008), Huang et al. (2008), and Stamova (2009)). An example is employed to illustrate our feasible results.

The critical speed and hunting frequency are two basic research objects of vehicle system dynamics and have a significant influence on the dynamic performance. A lateral dynamic model with 17 degrees of freedom was established in this study to investigate the critical speed and hunting frequency of a high-speed railway vehicle. The nonlinearities of wheel/rail contact geometry, creep forces, and yaw damper were all considered. A heuristic nonlinear creep model was employed to estimate the contact force between the wheel and the rail. The Maxwell model, which covers the influence of the stiffness characteristic, is used to simulate the yaw damper. To reflect the blow-off of the yaw damper, the damping coefficient is described by stages. Based on the mathematical model, the combined effects of vehicle parameters on the critical speed in the straight line and hunting frequency of the wheelset were investigated innovatively. The novel phenomenon that the hunting frequency exhibits a sudden increase from a smaller value to a larger value when the blow-off of the yaw damper occurs was discovered during the calculations. The extents to which various parameters affect the critical speed and hunting frequency are clear on the basis of the numerical results. Moreover, all of the parameter values were divided into three sections to determine the sensitive range for the critical speed and hunting frequency. The results show that the first section of values plays the decisive role on both the critical speed and the hunting frequency for all parameters analyzed. The investigation in this paper enriches the study of hunting stability and gives some ideas to probably solve the abnormal vibrations during the actual operation.

This paper addresses the problem of finite-time tracking control for multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) nonlinear systems with asymmetric saturations. A systematic approach is proposed to eliminate the effects of unmeasured external disturbances and unknown asymmetric saturations. In the proposed control strategy, a terminal sliding mode disturbance observer is provided to estimate the augmented disturbance (which contains the unknown asymmetric input saturation and external disturbance). The approximation error of the augmented disturbance can converge to zero in a fixed finite-time interval. Furthermore, a novel finite-time tracking control algorithm is developed to guarantee fast convergence of the tracking error. Compared with the existing results on finite-time tracking control, the chattering problem and the input saturation problem can be solved in a unified framework. Several simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The problem of minimum time-jerk trajectory planning for a robot is discussed in this paper. The optimal objective function is composed of two segments along the trajectory, which are the proportional to the total execution time and the proportional to the integral of the squared jerk (which denotes the derivative of the acceleration). The augmented Lagrange constrained particle swarm optimization (ALCPSO) algorithm, which combines the constrained particle swarm optimization (CPSO) with the augmented Lagrange multiplier (ALM) method, is proposed to optimize the objective function. In this algorithm, falling into a local best value can be avoided because a new particle swarm is generated per initial procedure, and the best value gained from the former generation is saved and delivered to the next generation during the iterative search procedure to enable the best value to be found more easily and more quickly. Finally, the proposed algorithm is tested on a planar 3-degree-of-freedom (DOF) robot; the simulation results show that the algorithm is effective, offering a solution to the time-jerk optimal trajectory planning problem of a robot under nonlinear constraints.

Coriolis dynamic vibration absorber is a device working in nonlinear zone. In stochastic design of this device, the Monte Carlo simulation requires large computation time. A simplified model of the system is built to retain the most important nonlinear term, the Coriolis damping of the dynamic vibration absorber. Applying the full equivalent linearization technique to the simplified model is inaccurate to describe the nonlinear behavior. This paper proposes a combination of partial stochastic linearization and Karhunen-Loeve expansion to solve the problem. The numerical demonstration of a ropeway gondola induced by wind load is presented. A design example based on the partial linearization supports the advantage of the proposed approach.

This paper focuses on the semiglobal stabilization for a class of nonlinear systems with nonstrict feedback form. Based on a generalized scaling technique, an adaptive control algorithm with dynamic high gain is developed for a class of nonstrict feedback nonlinear systems. It can be proved that, under some appropriate design parameters, all signals of the resulting closed-loop system are bounded semiglobally, and the system state will be convergent to origin exponentially. Finally, a numerical simulation is provided to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we discuss the infinite horizon H∞ control problem for a class of nonlinear stochastic systems with state, control, and disturbance dependent noise. The jumping parameters are modelled as an infinite-state Markov chain. Based on the solvability of a set of coupled Hamilton-Jacobi inequalities (HJIs), the exponential mean square H∞ controller for the considered nonlinear stochastic systems is obtained. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

This paper considers thep-moment boundedness of nonlinear impulsive stochastic delay differential systems (ISDDSs). Using the Lyapunov-Razumikhin method and stochastic analysis techniques, we obtain sufficient conditions which guarantee thep-moment boundedness of ISDDSs. Two cases are considered, one is that the stochastic delay differential system (SDDS) may not be bounded, and how an impulsive strategy should be taken to make the SDDS be bounded. The other is that the SDDS is bounded, and an impulsive disturbance appears in this SDDS, then what restrictions on the impulsive disturbance should be adopted to maintain the boundedness of the SDDS. Our results provide sufficient criteria for these two cases. At last, two examples are given to illustrate the correctness of our results.

A fuzzy adaptive analytic model predictive control method is proposed in this paper for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems. Specifically, invoking the standard results from the Moore-Penrose inverse of matrix, the unmatched problem which exists commonly in input and output dimensions of systems is firstly solved. Then, recurring to analytic model predictive control law, combined with fuzzy adaptive approach, the fuzzy adaptive predictive controller synthesis for the underlying systems is developed. To further reduce the impact of fuzzy approximation error on the system and improve the robustness of the system, the robust compensation term is introduced. It is shown that by applying the fuzzy adaptive analytic model predictive controller the rudder roll stabilization system is ultimately uniformly bounded stabilized in theH-infinity sense. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A robust particle filter (PF) and its application to fault/defect detection of nonlinear system are investigated in this paper. First, an adaptive parametric model is exploited as the observation model for a nonlinear system. Second, by incorporating the parametric model, particle filter is employed to estimate more accurate hidden states for the nonlinear stochastic system. Third, by formulating the problem of defect detection within the hypothesis testing framework, the statistical properties of the proposed testing are established. Finally, experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed detector on real defect detection and localization in images.

This paper presents an adaptive iterative learning control scheme for the output tracking of a class of nonlinear systems with unknown time-varying delays and input saturation nonlinearity. An observer is presented to estimate the states and linear matrix inequality (LMI) method is employed for observer design. The assumption of identical initial condition for ILC is relaxed by introducing boundary layer function. The possible singularity problem is avoided by introducing hyperbolic tangent function. The uncertainties with time-varying delays are compensated for by the combination of appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and Young’s inequality. Both time-varying and time-invariant radial basis function neural networks are employed to deal with system uncertainties. On the basis of a property of hyperbolic tangent function, the system output is proved to converge to a small neighborhood of the desired trajectory by constructing Lyapunov-like composite energy function in two cases, while keeping all the closed-loop signals bounded. Finally, a simulation example is presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper presents a high-performance nonsingular terminal sliding mode control method for uncertain second-order nonlinear systems. First, a nonsingular terminal sliding mode surface is introduced to eliminate the singularity problem that exists in conventional terminal sliding mode control. By using this method, the system not only can guarantee that the tracking errors reach the reference value in a finite time with high-precision tracking performance but also can overcome the complex-value and the restrictions of the exponent (the exponent should be fractional number with an odd numerator and an odd denominator) in traditional terminal sliding mode. Then, in order to eliminate the chattering phenomenon, a super-twisting higher-order nonsingular terminal sliding mode control method is proposed. The stability of the closed-loop system is established using the Lyapunov theory. Finally, simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper investigates the second-order synchronization of two heterogeneous nonlinear coupled networks by introducing controller and adaptive laws. Based on Lyapunov stability properties and LaSalle invariance principle, it is proved that the position and the velocity of two heterogeneous nonlinear coupled networks are asymptotically stable. Finally, some numerical simulations are presented to verify the analytical results.

Conventional low degree spherical simplex-radial cubature Kalman filters often generate low filtering accuracy or even diverge for handling highly nonlinear systems. The high-degree Kalman filters can improve filtering accuracy at the cost of increasing computational complexity; nevertheless their stability will be influenced by the negative weights existing in the high-dimensional systems. To efficiently improve filtering accuracy and stability, a novel mixed-degree spherical simplex-radial cubature Kalman filter (MSSRCKF) is proposed in this paper. The accuracy analysis shows that the true posterior mean and covariance calculated by the proposed MSSRCKF can agree accurately with the third-order moment and the second-order moment, respectively. Simulation results show that, in comparison with the conventional spherical simplex-radial cubature Kalman filters that are based on the same degrees, the proposed MSSRCKF can perform superior results from the aspects of filtering accuracy and computational complexity.

This paper investigates the problem of global stabilization for a class of switched nonlinear systems using multiple Lyapunov functions (MLFs). The restrictions on nonlinearities are neither linear growth condition nor Lipschitz condition with respect to system states. Based on adding a power integrator technique, we design homogeneous state feedback controllers of all subsystems and a switching law to guarantee that the closed-loop system is globally asymptotically stable. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the validity of the proposed control scheme.

This paper studies the problem of fault detection and estimation in nonlinear time-delayed systems with unknown inputs, where the time-delays are supposed to be constant but unknown. A new fault detection filter, which can estimate online the time-delays, is first introduced. Then, a reference residual model is proposed to formulate the robust fault detection filter design problem as an H∞ model-matching problem. Furthermore, by a novel robust adaptive fault estimation algorithm, the classical assumption that the time derivative of the output error should be known is removed. In addition, applying a robust H∞ optimization control technique, sufficient conditions for the existence of the fault detection filter (FDF) are derived in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Finally, simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

The paper presents a nonlinear unknown input observer (NUIO) based on singular value decomposition aided reduced dimension Cubature Kalman filter (SVDRDCKF) for a special class of nonlinear systems, the nonlinearity of which is only caused by part of its states. Firstly, the algorithm of general NUIO is discussed and the unknown input observer based on singular value decomposition aided Cubature Kalman filter (SVDCKF) given. Then a special nonlinear system model with unknown input is introduced. Based on the proposed model and the corresponding NUIO, the equivalent integral form with partial sampling and all sampling of the state vector in Cubature Kalman filter is analyzed. Finally the nonlinear unknown input observer based on singular value decomposition aided reduced dimension Cubature Kalman filter is obtained. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can meet the requirements of the system and is more important to increase the calculating efficiency a lot, although it has a decline in the accuracy of the filter.

This paper proposes a state estimation method for a sampled-data descriptor system by the Kalman filtering method. The sampled-data descriptor system is firstly discretized to obtain a discrete-time nonsingular model. Based on the discretized nonsingular system, a strong tracking unscented Kalman filter (STUKF) algorithm is designed for the state estimation. Then, a defined suboptimal fading factor is proposed and added to the prediction covariance for decreasing the weight of the prior knowledge on the conventional UKF filtering solution. Finally, a simulation example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Based on a nonlinear consensus protocol, this paper considers the group synchronization of complex dynamical networks with sampled data. Using the Lyapunov method, the group synchronization of the nonlinear complex networks is analyzed. All the nodes in each group can converge to their own synchronous state asymptotically, if the sampled period satisfies some matrix inequality conditions. Furthermore, the theoretical results are verified by some simulations.

This paper presents a stability theorem for a class of nonlinear fractional-order time-variant systems with fractional orderα (1<α<1)by using the Gronwall-Bellman lemma. Based on this theorem, a sufficient condition for designing a state feedback controller to stabilize such fractional-order systems is also obtained. Finally, a numerical example demonstrates the validity of this approach.

Our paper deals with a new computational approach to optimal control design for a class of switched systems. The control strategy we propose is based on the conventional proximal point method applied to a specific optimal control problem (OCP) with switched dynamics. The class of OCPs under consideration is widely applicable in optimization of real-world electronic systems. We create constructive approximations for the initially given sophisticated OCP, establish numerical stability (consistency) of the resulting algorithm, and develop an optimal control strategy. We finally discuss some implementability issues, study an illustrative example, and also point to possible generalizations of the elaborated control design in the context of nonlinear hybrid systems.

The sampling is not required to be periodic, and the state variables are not required to be measurable. A new type fuzzy dynamic output-feedback sampled-data controller is constructed, and a novel time-dependent Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is chosen for fuzzy systems under variable sampling. By using Lyapunov stability theory, a sufficient condition for very-strict passive analysis of fuzzy systems with nonuniformuncertain sampling is derived. Based on this condition, a novel fuzzy dynamic output-feedback controller is designed such that the closed-loop system is very-strictly passive. The existence condition of the controller can be solved by convex optimization approach. Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Multifingered robots play an important role in manipulation applications. They can grasp various shaped objects to perform point-to-point movement. It is important to plan the motion path of the object and appropriately control the grasping forces for multifingered robot manipulation. In this paper, we perform the optimal grasping control to find both optimal motion path of the object and minimum grasping forces in the manipulation. The rigid body dynamics of the object and the grasping forces subjected to the second-order cone (SOC) constraints are considered in optimal control problem. The minimum principle is applied to obtain the system equalities and the SOC complementarity problems. The SOC complementarity problems are further recast as the equations with the Fischer-Burmeister (FB) function. Since the FB function is semismooth, the semismooth Newton method with the generalized Jacobian of FB function is used to solve the nonlinear equations. The 2D and 3D simulations of grasping manipulation are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

For nonlinear differential-algebraic-equation subsystems, whose index is one and interconnection input is locally measurable, the problem of invertibility is discussed and the results are applied to the power systems component decentralized control. The inverse systems’ definitions for such a class of differential-algebraic-equation subsystems are put forward. A recursive algorithm is proposed to judge whether the controlled systems are invertible. Then physically feasibleα-order integral right inverse systems are constructed, with which the composite systems are linearizaed and decoupled. Finally, decentralized excitation and valve coordinative control for one synchronous generator within multimachine power systems are studied and the simulation results based on MATLAB demonstrate the effectiveness of the control scheme proposed in this paper.

The stabilization problem is investigated in this paper for a class of nonlinear systems with disturbances. The disturbances are supposed to be classified into two types. One type in the input channel is generated by an exogenous system, which can represent the constant or harmonic signals with unknown phase and magnitude. The other type is stochastic disturbance. Two kinds of nonlinear dynamics in the plants are considered, respectively, which correspond to the known and unknown functions. By integrating the disturbance observers with conventional control method, the first type of disturbances can be estimated and rejected. Simultaneously, the desired dynamic performances can be guaranteed. An example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

This paper focuses on the identification problem of Hammerstein nonlinear systems with nonuniform sampling. Using the key-term separation principle, we present a discrete identification model with nonuniform sampling input and output data based on the frame period. To estimate parameters of the presented model, an auxiliary model-based recursive least-squares algorithm is derived by replacing the unmeasurable variables in the information vector with their corresponding recursive estimates. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

This paper studies the nonlinear dynamic behaviors including chaotic, subharmonic, and quasi-periodic motions of a rigid rotor supported by floating ring gas bearing (FRGB) system. A hybrid numerical method combining the differential transformation method and the finite difference method used to calculate pressure distribution of FRGB system and rotor orbits. The results obtained for the orbits of the rotor center are in good agreement with those obtained using the traditional finite difference approach. Moreover, the hybrid method avoids the numerical instability problem suffered by the finite difference scheme at low values of the rotor mass and computational time-step. Moreover, power spectra, Poincaré maps, bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponents are applied to examine the nonlinear dynamic response of the FRGB system over representative ranges of the rotor mass and bearing number, respectively. The results presented summarize the changes which take place in the dynamic behavior of the FRGB system as the rotor mass and bearing number are increased and therefore provide a useful guideline for the bearing system.

This paper discusses the robust passivity and global stabilization problems for a class of uncertain nonlinear stochastic systems with structural uncertainties. A robust version of stochastic Kalman-Yakubovitch-Popov (KYP) lemma is established, which sustains the robust passivity of the system. Moreover, a robust strongly minimum phase system is defined, based on which the uncertain nonlinear stochastic system can be feedback equivalent to a robust passive system. Following with the robust passivity theory, a global stabilizing control is designed, which guarantees that the closed-loop system is globally asymptotically stable in probability (GASP). A numerical example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

This paper focuses on theoretical analysis of second-order consensus in multiagent system. As an extension of the general linear protocol, a nonlinear protocol is designed for multiagent system with undirected communication topology. The nonlinear protocol is also applied to achieve reference velocity consensus. Through choosing the appropriate Lyapunov functions and using LaSalle’s invariance principle, some consensus conditions are derived. Simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

This paper is concerned with a state observer-based sliding mode control design methodology for a class of continuous-time state-delayed switched systems with unmeasurable states and nonlinear uncertainties. The advantages of the proposed scheme mainly lie in which it eliminates the need for state variables to be full accessible and parameter uncertainties to be satisfied with the matching condition. Firstly, a state observer is constructed, and a sliding surface is designed. By matrix transformation techniques, combined with Lyapunov function and sliding surface function, a sufficient condition is given to ensure asymptotic stability of the overall closed-loop systems composed of the observer dynamics and the estimation error dynamics. Then, reachability of sliding surface is investigated. At last, an illustrative numerical example is presented to prove feasibility of the proposed approaches.

Under the weaker assumption on nonlinear functions, the adaptive finite-time stabilization of more general high-order nonlinear systems with dynamic and parametric uncertainties is solved in this paper. To solve this problem, finite-time input-to-state stability (FTISS) is used to characterize the unmeasured dynamic uncertainty. By skillfully combining Lyapunov function, sign function, backstepping, and finite-time input-to-state stability approaches, an adaptive state feedback controller is designed to guarantee high-order nonlinear systems are globally finite-time stable.

This paper investigates robust finite-timeH∞control for a class of impulsive switched nonlinear systems with time-delay. Firstly, using piecewise Lyapunov function, sufficient conditions ensuring finite-time boundedness of the impulsive switched system are derived. Then, finite-timeH∞performance analysis for impulsive switched systems is developed, and a robust finite-timeH∞state feedback controller is proposed to guarantee that the resulting closed-loop system is finite-time bounded withH∞disturbance attenuation. All the results are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, two numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper investigates the problem of the global stabilization via partial-state feedback and adaptive technique for a class of high-order stochastic nonlinear systems with more uncertainties/unknowns and stochastic zero dynamics. First of all, two stochastic stability concepts are slightly extended to allow the systems with more than one solution. To solve the problem, a lot of substantial technical difficulties should be overcome since the presence of severe uncertainties/unknowns, unmeasurable zero dynamics, and stochastic noise. By introducing the suitable adaptive updated law for an unknown design parameter and appropriate control Lyapunov function, and by using the method of adding a power integrator, an adaptive continuous (nonsmooth) partial-state feedback controller without overparameterization is successfully designed, which guarantees that the closed-loop states are bounded and the original system states eventually converge to zero, both with probability one. A simulation example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A new method to design a fuzzy bilinear observer (FBO) with unknown inputs is developed for a class of nonlinear systems. The nonlinear system is modeled as a fuzzy bilinear model (FBM). This kind of T-S fuzzy model is especially suitable for a nonlinear system with a bilinear term. The proposed fuzzy bilinear observer subject to unknown inputs is developed to ensure the asymptotic convergence of the error dynamic using the Lyapunov method. The proposed design conditions are given in linear matrix inequality (LMI) formulation. The paper studies also the problem of fault detection and isolation. An unknown input fuzzy bilinear fault diagnosis observer design is proposed. This work is given for both continuous and discrete cases of fuzzy bilinear models. Illustrative examples are chosen to provide the effectiveness of the given methodology.

This paper further considers more general high-order stochastic nonlinear system driven by noise of unknown covariance and its adaptive state-feedback stabilization problem. A smooth state-feedback controller is designed to guarantee that the origin of the closed-loop system is globally stable in probability.
