International audience; For observed mechanical systems, we study the problem of constructing flat inputs that are consistent with the mechanical structure of the systems. Such inputs will be called mechanical flat inputs. We show that contrary to flat inputs, that exist (almost) everywhere, in general, for the existence of mechanical flat inputs, additional structural conditions are needed. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of mechanical inputs for observed mechanical systems with n degrees of freedom, where n is arbitrary, and n − 1 measurements.

In this paper, we study the problem of constructing flat inputs for multi-output dynamical systems. The notion of flat inputs has been introduced by Waldherr and Zeitz in [30, 31] and can be seen as dual to that of flat outputs. In the single-output case, a flat input can be constructed if and only if the original dynamical system together with its output is observable. In the multi-output case, the observability is not necessary for the existence of flat inputs. The observable case has been treated in [31], where a system of linear algebraic equations has been proposed in order to determine the control vector fields associated to the flat inputs. The goal of this paper is to treat the unobservable case for multi-output dynamical systems. We start by discussing the case when the dynamical system together with the given output is observable and we present a generalization of the results of [31] by relating them with the notion of minimal differential weight. Then we give our main results. We consider the unobservable case for which locally, on an open and dense subset of $\mathbb R^n$ , we construct control vector fields $g_1 , \ldots, g_m$ such that the associated control system is flat. Finally, we explain how our results can be applied to private communication.

International audience; We present normal forms for nonlinear control systems that are the closest to static feedback linearizable ones, that is, for systems that become feedback linearizable via the simplest dynamic feedback, which is the one‐fold prolongation of a suitably chosen control. They form a particular class of flat systems, namely those of differential weight n + m + 1, where n is the number of states and m is the number of controls. We also show that the dynamic feedback may create singularities in the control space depending on the state and we discuss them. We also address the issue of the normalization of the system only versus that of the system together with a flat output. Finally, we illustrate our results by several examples.

International audience; In this paper we study feedback linearization of multi-input control-affine systems via a particular class of nonregular feedback transformations, namely by reducing the number of controls by one. A complete geometric characterization of systems of that class requires special properties of the linearizability distributions Ɗ0 ⊂ Ɗ1 ⊂ Ɗ 2 ⊂⋯. Contrary to the case of regular feedback linearization, they need not be involutive but the first noninvolutive one has to contain a sufficiently large involutive subdistribution. Recently, we solved the problem of Ɗ0 being noninvolutive. In the present paper, we study the case of Ɗ0 involutive but Ɗ1 noninvolutive. This case is specially interesting because it covers a big class of mechanical control systems. We provide geometric necessary and sufficient conditions describing our class of systems that can be verified by differentiation and algebraic operations only. We illustrate our results by several examples and discuss relations with other linearizability problems (static invertible feedback linearization or dynamic linearization).

In this paper, we explain how flatness (in particular, how constructing flat inputs) can be applied to secure communication systems via chaotic models. In order to send confidential messages, we use a transmitter whose dynamics are a flat control system steaming from a dynamical one (with no inputs) originally composed by two independent chaotic subsystems (a Chua and a Rossler circuit, resp.). We explain how from the original dynamical (chaotic) system we can construct a flat control system, the flatness property being achieved by adding control vector fields or, equivalently, inputs. Such inputs are called flat inputs in Waldherr and Zeitz (2008, 2010) since they lead to a flat control system. In our construction, adding inputs is done in a minimal way because they affect only three components of the original dynamical chaotic system. We show numerically that the chaotic behavior of the dynamical system is preserved for the control system (which is crucial for secure communication).

That problem can be seen as the dual of the linearization via invertible one-fold prolongation of a suitably chosen control (which is the simplest dynamic feedback). We discuss in detail similarities and differences of both problems. We propose necessary and sufficient conditions describing the class of systems linearizable via a one-fold reduction, and discuss when the proposed conditions can be verified (by differentiation and algebraic operations only). We provide a normal form and illustrate our results by several examples.

International audience; We study the problem of optimal laser-induced population transfer in n-level quantum systems. This problem can be represented as an energy-optimal control problem, related to a sub-Riemannian problem on $SO(n)$ , and it is known (Boscain, Chambrion, Charlot, Gauthier) that for n = 2 and n = 3 the Hamiltonian system associated with the Pontryagin Maximum Principle PMP is integrable. We will show that this changes completely for $n\geqslant 4$ . Specifically, for n = 4, we will prove that the adjoint equation of the PMP does not possess any meromorphic first integral independent of the Hamiltonian on the levels of the Casimir functions. This implies that the system is not B-integrable for any $n\geqslant 4$ . In proving our nonintegrability results we will use differential Galois theory.

We study flatness of two-input control-affine systems, defined on an n -dimensional state-space. We give a complete geometric characterization of systems that become static feedback linearizable after a one-fold prolongation of a suitably chosen control. They form a particular class of flat systems: they are of differential weight n + 3. We give normal forms compatible with the minimal flat outputs and provide a system of first order PDE׳s to be solved in order to find all minimal flat outputs. We illustrate our results by two examples: the induction motor and the polymerization reactor.

International audience; In this paper, we give a complete geometric characterisation of systems locally static feedback equivalent to a triangular form compatible with the chained form, for m = 1, respectively with the m-chained form, for m ≥ 2, where the number of controls is m + 1. They are x-flat systems. We provide a system of first-order PDE's to be solved in order to find all x-flat outputs, for m = 1, respectively all minimal x-flat outputs, for m ≥ 2. We illustrate our results by examples, in particular, by an application to a mechanical system: the coin rolling without slipping on a moving table.

This paper presents a control design method applied to diesel engines equipped with a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. The objective of this control is to reduce gas pollution to the fixed rate norms imposed by Euro v and Euro vi, Arnold et al. [2006] (Transport and E. E. Federation [2004] and Umweltbundesamt [2003]) without loosing the torque power of the controlled Turbocharged Diesel Engine (shortly, TDE). To achieve this, we propose to control Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) and EGR Fraction. But these variables are not accessible for measurements, Jankovic et al. [2000]. Therefore the gas pressure in the intake manifold and the compressor mass flow rate are preferred. Those outputs, however, lead to a non-minimum phase system. To avoid this, another choice of outputs is proposed which, together with a dynamic extension, yields a linearizable system with trivial zero dynamics, to which we apply Nonlinear Continuous-time Generalized Predictive Control.

We propose in this paper a constructive procedure that transforms locally, even at singular configurations, the kinematics of a car towing trailers into Kumpera-Ruiz normal form. This construction converts the nonholonomic motion planning problem into an algebraic problem (the resolution of a system of polynomial equations), which we illustrate by steering the two-trailer system in a neighborhood of singular configurations. In the first part of this thesis, we study linear differential-algebraic equations (shortly, DAEs) and linear control systems given by DAEs (shortly, DAECSs). The discussed problems and obtained results are summarized as follows. 1. Geometric connections between linear DAEs and linear ODE control systems ODECSs. We propose a procedure, named explicitation, to associate a linear ODECS to any linear DAE. The explicitation of a DAE is a class of ODECSs, or more precisely, an ODECS defined up to a coordinates change, a feedback transformation and an output injection. Then we compare the Wong sequences of a DAE with invariant subspaces of its explicitation. We prove that the basic canonical forms, the Kronecker canonical form KCF of linear DAEs and the Morse canonical form MCF of ODECSs, have a perfect correspondence and their invariants (indices and subspaces) are related. Furthermore, we define the internal equivalence of two DAEs and show its difference with the external equivalence by discussing their relations with internal regularity, i.e., the existence and uniqueness of solutions. 2. Transform a linear DAECS into its feedback canonical form via the explicitation with driving variables. We study connections between the feedback canonical form FBCF of DAE control systems DAECSs proposed in the literature and the famous Morse canonical form MCF of ODECSs. In order to connect DAECSs with ODECSs, we use a procedure named explicitation (with driving variables). This procedure attaches a class of ODECSs with two kinds of inputs (the original control input and the vector of driving variables) to a given DAECS. On the other hand, for classical linear ODECSs (without driving variables), we propose a Morse triangular form MTF to modify the construction of the classical MCF. Based on the MTF, we propose an extended MTF and an extended MCF for ODECSs with two kinds of inputs. Finally, an algorithm is proposed to transform a given DAECS into its FBCF. This algorithm is based on the extended MCF of an ODECS given by the explication procedure. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the structure and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. For nonlinear DAEs and DAECSs (of quasi-linear form), we study the following problems: 3. Explicitations, external and internal analysis, and normal forms of nonlinear DAEs. We discuss singularities and provide a system of first order PDE's to be solved in order to find all x-flat outputs. We illustrate our results by an application to a mechanical system: the coin rolling without slipping on a moving table., Premièrement, nous avons caractérisé les systèmes multi-entrées, affines par rapport aux contrôles, linéarisables dynamiquement via une pré-intégration d'un contrôle bien choisi. Ils forment une classe particulière de systèmes plats : ils ont un poids différentiel de n+m+1, où m est le nombre de contrôles et n est la dimension de l'état. Nous avons présenté des formes normales compatibles avec les sorties plates minimales et décrit toutes les sorties plates minimales. Nous avons appliqué nos résultats à plusieurs exemples. Deuxièmement, nous avons décrit les systèmes multi-entrées statiquement équivalents à une forme triangulaire compatible avec la forme multi-chaînée. Ensuite, la platitude de ces systèmes a été analysée et résolue. Nous avons discuté les singularités dans l'espace de contrôle et déterminé toutes les sorties plates. Nous avons appliqué ces résultats au système mécanique d'une pièce roulant sans glissement sur une table en mouvement.

In this thesis, we are interested first in the sub-Riemannian problems on 2-step nilpotent Lie groups. We start by obtaining a complete classification of 2-step nilpotent sub-Riemannian Lie algebras (SR-Lie algebras) of dimension n between 3 and 7, and those of arbitrary dimension n such that the derivated algebra is of dimension one. In addition, we characterize the contact and quasi contact SR-Lie algebras and we calculate, in dimension 5, the group of SR-infinitesimal symmetries. Having presented that classification, we study the sub-Riemannian geodesics associated with the 2 step nilpotent SR-Lie algebras obtained in our classification. We study the integrability of the adjoint geodesic equations and we give the optimal controls and optimal trajectories in each case. In the second part of the thesis, we study the sub-Riemannian geodesics for a sub-RiemannianLie group (G;D;B) where G = SO(4) or G = SO(2; 2) and D is of codimension 2 (giving contactSR-homogeneous spaces). We give canonical models of these spaces and then show that the Lie-Poisson adjoint systems associated with the models are always integrable in the Liouville sense. More over, we show that the Lie-Poisson system is either a linear system which is super-integrable with the help of trigonometric functions of time (or constant ones) or a non-linear system which is integrable in the Liouville sense and whose solutions can be expressed using the Weierstrass elliptic function.; Dans cette thèse, on s'intéresse en premier aux problèmes sous-riemanniens sur un groupe de Lie nilpotent d'ordre 2. Dans un premier temps, on réalise la classification complète des algèbres de Lie sous-riemanniennes (SR-algèbres de Lie) nilpotentes d'ordre 2 de dimension n compris entre 3 et 7, et celles de dimension arbitraire n telle que l'algèbre dérivée est de dimension une. De plus, nous avons distingué les SR-algèbres de Lie de contact et de quasi-contact et nous avons calculé, en dimension 5, le groupe des SR-symétries infinitésimales. Une fois cette classification réalisée, on étudie les géodésiques sous-riemanniennes associées aux SR-algèbres de Lie nilpotentes d'ordre 2 obtenues dans notre classification. Nous avons étudié l'intégrabilité des équations géodésiques adjointes et donné les contrôles optimaux ainsi que les trajectoires optimales dans chacun des cas. Dans une seconde partie de la thèse, on étudie les géodésiques sous-riemanniennes pour un groupe de Lie sous-riemannien (G;D;B) où G = SO(4) ou G = SO(2; 2) et D est de codimension 2 (donnant des espaces SR-homogènes de contact). Nous avons donné un modèle canonique de ces espaces et ensuite montré que les systèmes adjoints de Lie-Poisson associés au modèle étaient toujours intégrables au sens de Liouville. De plus, nous montrons que le système de Lie-Poisson est soit un système linéaire qui est super-intégrable en fonctions trigonométriques du temps ou constantes ; soit un système non linéaire intégrable au sens de Liouville et dont les solutions sont exprimables à l'aide de la fonction elliptique de Weierstrass.

The present doctoral thesis aims to predict vibratory forces transmitted at the interface between two mechanical structures. The study concerns structural dynamics in low frequency range and consists in modelling structural coupling in presence of uncertain parameters and experiments. Active automotive equipments are vibratory sources that cause vibrations on receiving structures (e.g a chassis) to which they are mounted. The control a priori of the vibratory field, and therefore acoustic field, of the assembled system supposes the prediction of vibratory forces at the interface. Practical situations show that the coupling strategy, used to predict forces acting on the receiver, leads to an inverse problem. In order to validate the predictions, they are compared with measurements. To comply with specifications regarding force magnitude, the interface between the two structures is optimized. It will be shown that in presence of the optimized interface, the dispersion of force magnitude is systematically lower than the dispersion in presence of the nominal interface., Le présent travail de thèse porte sur la prédiction des efforts vibratoires transmis à l'interface entre deux structures mécaniques. L'étude relève de la dynamique des structures en basses fréquences et concerne des aspects relatifs à la modélisation de couplages structuraux, notamment en présence de paramètres incertains et d'aspects expérimentaux. Les équipements automobiles actifs sont des sources vibratoires qui agissent sur la structure d'accueil (souvent le châssis) sur laquelle ils sont montés. La maîtrise, a priori, du champ vibratoire (et donc acoustique) de l'assemblage, suppose la prédiction des efforts vibratoires à l'interface équipement/structure d'accueil. Le formalisme utilisé pour décrire le couplage entre sous-systèmes permet d'établir que la recherche, dans des situations pratiques, des efforts appliqués à l'accueil est un problème inverse. Une méthode prédictive des efforts est construite et validée par une mise en œuvre expérimentale. Pour que les efforts vibratoires transmis respectent un gabarit imposé a priori, un problème d'optimisation numérique de l'interface est proposé et résolu. Il sera montré que pour l'interface ainsi optimisée, la dispersion de la norme des efforts transmis est systématiquement plus faible que pour l'interface nominale.

In the first part of the Ph.D thesis, we characterize all x-flat outputs and their singular loci of any 2-inputs driftless control system wich is equivalent to the chained system. Then we apply that result to the n-trailer system in order to calculate all its x-flats outputs. In the second part, we establish a new model of the n-bar system in (m+1)-dimensional space. With the help of this model, we show that the system is locally equivalent to the m-chained system and also describe its singular locus. Furthermore we analyse its flatness property and determine its minimal flat outputs. In the third part, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a distribution to be lacally equivalent to the Cartan distribution for surfaces. Finally, in the fourth part, we give necessary and sufficient verifiable conditions for a multi-input affine control system to be orbital feedback linearizable.; Dans la première partie de cette thèse, nous caractérisons complètement toutes les x-sorties plates et leurs lieux singuliers pour un système avec deux contrôles qui est équivalent au système chaîné. Nous appliquons aussi ce résultat au système de robot mobile avec des remorques pour calculer toutes ses x-sorties plates. Dans la deuxième partie, nous présentons un nouveau modèle pour le système à n-barres dans l'espace de dimension m+1. Nous montrons que ce système est localement équivalent au système m-chaîné et caractérisons aussi ses lieux singuliers. Ensuite, nous analysons sa propriété de platitude et donnons ses sorties plates minimales. Dans la troisième partie, nous donnons des conditions nécessaires et suffisantes pour qu'une distribution soit équivalente à la distribution de Cartan pour des surfaces. Finalement, dans la quatrième partie, nous donnons des conditions nécessaires et suffisantes vérifiables pour qu'un système multi-entrées soit linéarisable par bouclage orbital.
