International audience; PurposeRetrospective long-term study to evaluate the efficacy of botulinum neurotoxin A (BoNT/A) therapy for epiphora due to non-surgical nasolacrimal duct obstruction.IntroductionBoNT/A has been used successfully since 2000 in axillary hyperhidrosis to reduce secretory disorders. Some isolated cases of hyperlacrimation or crocodile tear syndrome have been treated on this basis. We used BoNT/A to decrease lacrimal secretion in cases of epiphora.MethodsWe reviewed the qualitative and quantitative degree of improvement of epiphora after botulinum neurotoxin injections in the palpebral lobe of the lacrimal gland, carried out in an ophthalmic centre between 2009 and 2016. Epiphora was graded using a questionnaire, Munk scores and Schirmer tests before and after injections. Severity of side effects was recorded.ResultsTwenty-seven palpebral lacrimal glands of twenty patients with epiphora, mean age 65 ± 13, were treated with BoNT/A (Botox® or Xeomin®) from April 2009 to April 2016. The epiphora was induced by persistent nasolacrimal duct stenosis after surgical treatment. No conventional medical nor surgical treatment was effective at this time. The technique of injection, dilution and dosage were specific. We re-injected 14/27 cases on an as-needed basis, 7/27 cases three times, 3/27 cases four times, and 2/27 cases (same patient both glands) five times. The Schirmer test measured a decrease of lacrimal secretion in 24/27 (89%) lacrimal glands after neurotoxin injection. Side effects were ptosis in 4 cases and transient esotropia in 2 cases. The authors describe the injection techniques, the dosage, the volume and concentration of BoNT/A.ConclusionPatients with epiphora can be treated effectively with BoNT/A to reduce lacrimal secretion of the principal lacrimal gland in its palpebral portion. Ninety percent of the patients were very satisfied, with few side effects (ptosis or mild diplopia lasting from 3 days to 3 weeks). More studies are needed to delineate which types of epiphora can be treated with BoNT/A.; Étude rétrospective évaluant l’efficacité des injections de neurotoxine botulique A (BoNT/A) dans la glande lacrymale pour le traitement des larmoiements à voies lacrymales obstruées.ContexteLa BoNT/A a été utilisée avec succès depuis 2000 pour réduire la sécrétion sudoripare dans l’hyperhydrose axillaire. Quelques cas isolés d’hyperlacrimation type « larmes de crocodile » ont été traités par injection de BoNT/A dans la glande lacrymale. Nous rapportons notre expérience dans le traitement des larmoiements à voies lacrymales obstruées par injection de BoNT/A dans la glande lacrymale.MéthodesNous avons évalué de façon qualitative et quantitative l’amélioration de l’épiphora après l’injection de BoNT/A dans le lobe principal de la glande lacrymale dans sa portion palpébrale chez les patients adressés pour épiphora à voies lacrymales obstruées de 2009 à 2016. Les scores d’évaluation ont reposé sur un questionnaire fonctionnel, les scores de Munk, et les tests de Schirmer, tests réalisés avant et après les injections. Les effets secondaires ont été analysés.RésultatsVingt-sept glandes lacrymales, de vingt patients ayant un épiphora ont été injectées en consultation externe avec une BoNT/A (Botox® or Xeomin®), d’avril 2009 à avril 2016. La moyenne d’âge était de 65 ± 13. Les patients étaient adressés pour épiphora persistant après échec des traitements conventionnels médicaux ou chirurgicaux pour voies lacrymales obstruées. La technique d’injection, la dilution et le dosage de BoNT/A sont explicités. Nous avons ré-injecté une deuxième fois 15/27 cas à la demande des patients en raison de la récidive de l’épiphora, une troisième fois 7/27 cas, une quatrième fois 3/27 cas, et une cinquième fois 2/27 cas. Le test de Schirmer a montré une diminution de la quantité de larmes secrétées dans 24/27 glandes lacrymales (89 %) après l’injection de neurotoxine botulique. Les effets secondaires se sont limités à 4 cas de ptosis et 2 esotropies rapidement régressives.ConclusionLes patients atteints de larmoiements à voies lacrymales obstruées en échec thérapeutique, peuvent être traités par injection de neurotoxine botulique A dans la glande lacrymale principale dans sa portion palpébrale. Les patients se sont révélés satisfaits à 90 % avec peu d’effets secondaires (ptosis ou diplopie) spontanément régressifs en moins de 3 semaines. D’autres études sont nécessaires pour préciser les indications et le schéma thérapeutique des injections de neurotoxine botulique A dans les larmoiements à voies lacrymales obstruées.

Abstract

International audience; Application of vibration in metal forming process has already shown numerous advantages in the past. It improves not only mechanical and surface properties of workpiece but the integration of vibration in metal forming process has also been helpful in the reduction of forming force required for the process. Majority of the work done before in this field is related to single vibration source vibration and its application in metal forming process. The aim of this work is to develop a mathematical model for multi vibration assisted forging process. The combination of multi mechanical vibrations generates a complicated movement of lower die without deforming it. This developed mathematical model proves that movement is basically in the form of progressive wave in the lower die thus resulting local surface movement. In reality this movement can be generated by the vibration given by multi piezoelectric actuators. Based on this mathematical model, simulations using finite element software Forge2011® have been performed to observe the presence of progressive wave in the workpiece. The simulations’ kinematics confirms the existence of progressive wave in the workpiece. Simulation results demonstrate the effect of progressive wave to reduce the forging force, reduction of friction on the lower surface of die and hence improvement the forging process. Based on the developed mathematical model and simulation results, design proposition for multi vibration assisted forging process has been presented in this work.

Abstract

International audience; Growth of III-V nanowires has now gained some maturity and fundamental understanding of the growth mechanisms has dramatically progressed. However, there are only three families of III-Vs which have been extensively explored: nitrides, arsenides and phosphides. The growth and understanding of binary or ternary antimonides is only emerging now. The main motivation for developing antimonide nanowires is to link the intrinsic advantages of the nanowire geometry (possibility to relax strain very efficiently without creation of dislocations, quantum confinement, control of crystal phase), with the exceptional bulk properties of these semiconductors, such as small bandgaps, huge electron (InSb) or hole (GaSb) mobilities, the largest Landé g factor (InSb), a high thermoelectric figure of merit (InSb) and vast possibilities of bandstructure engineering, both in type I or type II/III alignments.Here we present advanced nanowire structures containing antimony and grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Structural characteristics are analyzed using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and scanning tunneling microscopy. Nanowire heterostructures have been grown by a vapour-liquid-solid mechanism, using either gold seed particles or a gold-free “self-catalyzed” approach. We report the achievement, for the first time, of InSb nanowires by molecular beam epitaxy. We then show ternary GaAs/GaAsxSb1-x, InAs/InAsxSb1-x abrupt nanowire heterostructures, of controlled composition. It is demonstrated that crystal structure of ternary nanowires can be tuned with high control from defected to perfect phases, by inclusion of just a few atomic percent of antimony. Due to an overgrowth process, both wurtzite and zinc-blende InAsSb sidewall facets occur, and are revealed by low temperature STM with atomic resolution.

UMR BGPI - Equipe 4; International audience; To develop a quantitative evaluation of grapevine resistance to powdery mildew and of pathogenicity of the causal agent (*Erysiphe necator*), a spot inoculation method was developed using detached leaves of potted plants. The percentage of inoculating spots leading to a colony and the mean diameter of colonies were determined to assess the host-pathogen relationships. Significant differences were found between host cultivars and their ranking was associated with that observed in the vineyard. There was a significant interaction between cultivar and replicate during the whole experiment indicating that the physiological state of detached leaves is important. Aging of tissues was accompanied by a gain in resistance that was considerably more marked in resistant cultivars. Only partly expanded leaves of resistant cultivars that stopped expansion on the agar medium supported the development of the fungus. Significant differences between *E. necator* isolates were also demonstrated, but these variations were less marked than those due to host cultivar and leaf position. Preliminary results obtained with different isolates from the two European genetic groups (A and B) indicate that, on average, group A is less pathogenic
