This study describes the synthesis of various types of thiolated-graphene quantum dots (GQDs) for the simultaneous multi-sensing of heavy metal ions using one-droplet microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (OD- µ PADs). For the first time, functionalized GQDs were synthesized and stabilized on the surface of hydrophobic fiber-glass with simple manufacturing and assembly strategy towards colorimetric chemosensing of ions including iron, copper, cobalt, mercury, chrome, manganese, and nickel. For this purpose, GQDs are functionalized by various organic species including cysteamine, decanethiol, and mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) towards specific electrostatic interaction with metal ions of Fe (II), Cu (II), Co(II), Hg (II), Mn (II), and Ni (II). Therefore, an innovative GQDs-based miniaturized chemo-system was proposed for the environmental analysis. Additionally, the results were confirmed using fluorescence spectrometry as an optical detection method. Finally, this simple and efficient colorimetric platform was used for facile metal ions detection in human urine models, and environmental fluids, which can provide a commercial device for sensing contaminants by non-professional users in biomedical/environmental mixture. As an economical technique, this platform presents a "mix-and-sense" system without dye (as a side substance) or chemical treatments. A variety of ionizable and cationic lipids have been synthesized as precursors for nanoparticle carriers. However, the laborious synthetic routes in batch reactors often involve the use of toxic and carcinogenic agents, as well as challenge of removing gaseous byproducts. In this study, we present facile one-flow micro-reaction process that enables the synthesis of 11 ionizable lipids as well as 7 cationic lipids, including the well-known DODAP and DOTAP. These lipids can be scaled up to produce approximately ∼10g/h by using a straightforward size-up approach. The development of the lipid library was involved generating highly moisture-sensitive acyl chloride at 25 °C for 1.5 min. The toxic byproducts such as HCl, CO 2 and CO were subsequently removed using a liquid-gas separator. The esterification with dimethylamino-1,2-diol at 25 °C for 3 min, monitored in-line with FTIR, completed the process. Additionally, the synthesized ionizable lipids were converted to cationic lipids with methyl sulfate, chloride ions via dimethyl sulfate and Steglich esterification in a continuous flow system. Finally, the produced DODAP was transformed into a uniform-sized LNPs (64 nm, PDI 0.07) and liposomal nanoparticles (72 nm, PDI 0.05) while DOTAP was converted to liposomes (55 nm, PDI 0.08) using a custom micro-mixer. Studying the adsorption behavior of cationic surfactants can help to develop more effective strategies to limit their dispersion in the environment. However, there have few studies on the adsorption of cationic surfactants from the perspective of critical micelle concentration (CMC). In this study, with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and octadecyl trimethylammonium bromide (OTAB) serving as the model cationic surfactants, the effect of CMC on the adsorption behavior of cationic surfactant onto the surface of sodium alginate/silica (SA/SiO 2 ) microspheres was systematically revealed. The adsorption mechanism relative to CMC was investigated under different conditions, including surfactant concentration, pH, temperature, and adsorption time. The results suggest that at identical concentrations, the smaller the CMC value of the cationic surfactants, the greater the adsorption amount (q t ). q t for CTAB and OTAB were 583.2 and 678.0 mg/g respectively, with the concentration higher than their CMC value. When the concentration was lower than the CMC value of the cationic surfactants, q t for CTAB and OTAB were 123.2 and 138.7 mg/g, respectively. The CMC value of CTAB was lower than that of OTAB under identical conditions, suggesting that the adsorption of cationic surfactants is related to their CMC. Glycolipids incorporating positive charges, mediated by an imidazolium cation, have shown potential for effective formulation of vesicular drug carriers, reflecting repulsive electrostatic forces, promoting the formation of nanosized assemblies and preventing unwanted Oswald ripening (Goh et al. (2019), ACS Omega 4, 17,039). Our continuous development of an assembly-based drug delivery system prompted us to investigate a pH-sensitive analogue, leading to the synthesis of a 6-amino-Guerbet glycoside. However, in contrast to the imidazolium counterpart, the amine-mediated charge increased the intermolecular cohesions, furnishing bigger assemblies instead, which further increased upon introduction of acid. Moreover, assemblies exhibited a significantly reduced positive charge density. It is concluded that strong proton-initiated hydrogen bonding between amino groups provide cohesive head group interactions overcompensating possible repulsive charge interactions. This study aimed to examine the impact of trivalent, divalent, or monovalent cations dissolving into water and being mixed with maize starch to influence its retrogradation, gelatinization, and gel characteristics. The result of the analysis using a differential scanning calorimeter showed that all cations raised the peak of gelatinization temperature of maize starch, especially Al 3+ or Fe 3+ , while trivalent cations reduced the enthalpy. The result of the analysis using a rapid viscosity analyzer showed that trivalent cation caused lower trough viscosity, final viscosity, and pasting temperature but higher breakdown viscosity of maize starch than monovalent or divalent cations. Confocal laser scanning microscopy showed that the cation promoted the destruction of gelatinized maize starch granules, especially Zn 2+ , Fe 3+ , or Al 3+ . Additionally, trivalent Fe 3+ or Al 3+ caused higher gel strength of maize starch. Addressing the drawbacks of traditional flocculants on microalgae biomass harvesting is crucial for large-scale industrial applications of microalgae production. In this study, cationic bioflocculant was successfully prepared by introducing cationic groups into the side chain of guar gum, achieving in-situ algae flocculation efficiency of 83.5 % with the dosage of 18.0 mg/L under pH = 10.0. Through a harmonious integration of predictive modelling and practical experimentation, a superior cell flocculation capacity of 23.5 g/g was achieved. In addition, the environmental safety and biocompatibility of cationic guar gum was assessed, using the typical suspension quantitative bacteriostatic method and the fluorescent double-staining technique. The results showed that the inhibition efficiency of Staphylococcus aureus in the system containing 60.0 mg/L cationic guar gum was only 12.0 % and there was no inhibition against Escherichia coli colonies. Developing the delivery systems with high therapeutic efficacy and low side effects is of great interest and significance for anticancer therapy. Compared to the high cost in synthesizing new chemotherapeutic drugs, exploring the anticancer potentials of existing chemicals is more convenient and efficient. Sodium bicarbonate (BC), a simple inorganic salt, has shown its tumor inhibition capacity via regulating the acidity of tumor microenvironment. However, the effects of intracytoplasmic BC on tumor growth and the potentials of BC to serve as an anticancer agent are still unknown. Herein, we developed a BC-loaded cationic liposome system (BC-CLP) to deliver BC into the cytosol of cancer cells. The in vitro studies showed that the BC-CLP containing 1% BC (w/v) had a size of 112.9 nm and a zeta potential of 19.1 mV, which reduced the viability of the model cancer cells (human oral squamous cell carcinoma HSC-3 cells) to 13.7%. In contrast, the neutral BC-LP caused less than 50% viability reduction. We further found that BC-CLP released BC directly into cytoplasm via membrane fusion pathway rather than endocytosis, leading to the remarkable increase of cytosolic pH, which may contribute to the anticancer effect of BC-CLP. Accurate prediction of the phospholipidosis-induction risk of drugs at early stages is important in drug development. So far, discrimination models for predicting the induction risk of cationic drugs have been proposed, but it is still challenging to accurately predict the risk of cationic drugs with intermediate hydrophobicity (logP). In this study, we introduced a parameter (Δlogk 40 ) reflecting not only hydrophobic interaction but also interactions with the polar headgroup between cationic drugs and phospholipids, obtained with liquid chromatography using an immobilized artificial membrane column. The parameter was used along with other physicochemical properties as features to construct discrimination models. Linear discriminant analysis, the modified Mahalanobis discriminant analysis, support vector machine, and random forest were employed for model construction. The results showed that all discrimination models exhibited good predictive performance, with the modified Mahalanobis discriminant analysis and random forest providing the best results for cationic drugs, suggesting that the usefulness of the parameter reflecting complex interactions between cationic drugs and immobilized artificial membrane for constructing discrimination models to predict the induction risk. Phosphates, whose obvious disadvantage is the relatively small birefringence, can be overcome by the introduction of post-transition metal cations containing stereochemically active lone-pair electrons. In this paper, two new compounds were successfully explored in the A–Sb–P–O system, i.e. Cs2Sb3O(PO4)3 (CsSbPO) and (NH4)2Sb4O2(H2O)(PO4)2[PO3(OH)]2 (NH4SbPOH). Transmission spectra show that CsSbPO has a surprising transmission range with a UV cutoff edge of 213 nm. First-principles calculations show that both compounds have a wide band gap (5.02 eV for CsSbPO and 5.30 eV for NH4SbPOH) and enlarged birefringence (Δn = 0.034@1064 nm for CsSbPO and Δn = 0.045@1064 nm for NH4SbPOH). The results of real-space atom-cutting investigations show that the distorted [SbOx] polyhedra originating from the asymmetric lone pair electrons give the main contribution to the total birefringence and overcome the disadvantage of small birefringence of phosphates but maintain wide transition windows. Antiphase bursting related to the rhythmic motor behavior exhibits complex dynamics modulated by the inhibitory synaptic current (Isyn), especially in the presence of the hyperpolarization-activated cation current (Ih). In the present paper, the dynamics of antiphase bursting modulated by the Ih and Isyn is studied in three aspects with a theoretical model. Firstly, the Isyn and the slow Ih with strong strength are the identified to be the necessary conditions for the antiphase bursting. The dependence of the antiphase bursting on the two currents is different for low (escape mode) and high (release mode) threshold voltages (Vth) of the inhibitory synapse. Secondly, more detailed co-regulations of the two currents to induce opposite changes of the bursting period are obtained. For the escape mode, increase of the Ih induces elevated membrane potential of the silence inhibited by a strong Isyn and shortened silence duration to go beyond Vth, resulting in reduced bursting period. For the release mode, increase of the Ih induces elevated tough value of the former part of the burst modulated by a nearly zero Isyn and lengthen burst duration to fall below Vth, resulting in prolonged bursting period. Finally, the fast-slow dynamics of the antiphase bursting are acquired. Using one-and two-parameter bifurcations of the fast subsystem of a single neuron, the burst of the antiphase bursting is related to the stable limit cycle, and the silence modulated by a strong Isyn to the stable equilibrium to a certain extent. The Ih mainly modulates the dynamics within the burst and quiescent state. Furthermore, with the fast subsystem of the coupled neurons, the silence is associated with the unstable equilibrium point. The results present theoretical explanations to the changes in the bursting period and fast-slow dynamics of the antiphase bursting modulated by the Isyn and Ih, which is helpful for understanding the antiphase bursting and modulating rhythmic motor patterns. β-lactoglobulin (BLG) is the major whey protein with negative charges at neutral pH in aqueous media. Thus, the interaction with mucins, the major polyanionic component of mucus, is very weak due to the electrostatic repulsion between them. The present study postulates that cationization of BLG molecules may reverse the interaction characteristics between BLG and mucin from repulsive to associative. To this end, cationic-modified BLGs were prepared by grafting positively charged ethylenediamine (EDA) moieties into the negatively charged carboxyl groups on the aspartic and glutamic acid residues and compared with non-modified BLG upon mixing with porcine gastric mucin (PGM). To characterize the structural and conformational features of PGM, non/cationized BLGs, and their mixtures, various spectroscopic approaches, including zeta potential, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy were employed. Importantly, we have taken surface adsorption with optical waveguide lightmode spectroscopy (OWLS), and tribological properties with pin-on-disk tribometry at the sliding interface as the key approaches to determine the interaction nature between them as mixing PGM with polycations can lead to synergistic lubrication at the nonpolar substrate in neutral aqueous media as a result of an electrostatic association. All the spectroscopic studies and a substantial improvement in lubricity collectively supported a tenacious and associative interaction between PGM and cationized BLGs, but not between PGM and non-modified BLG. Wood is a hygroscopic material that responds to the moisture changes of the surrounding environment through swelling and shrinkage, making it dimensionally unstable. Here, we introduce a facile metal-ion-modification (MIM) approach to enhance the dimensional stability of wood. The MIM process involved swelling the wood samples with aqueous metal ion solutions and drying. The high valent metal cations, such as Fe 3+ , Al 3+ , and Zr 4+ , interacted with the hydrophilic groups (e.g., OH, COOH) present in the wood fibers, limiting their access to water and moisture, thereby enhancing the wood's hydrophobicity and dimensional stability. Evaluation of three wood species, southern yellow pine, poplar, and red oak, revealed water contact angles of 120-130° after MIM, indicative of enhanced surface hydrophobicity. Fe 3+ treatment decreased southern yellow pine's swelling ratio from 6 % to 4 %. Fe 3+ -treated wood exhibited tangential anti-swelling efficiencies ranging from 39.83 % to 57.14 % and radial anti-swelling efficiencies from 34.74 % to 48.33 %, varying across wood species. The enhancement of wood dimensional stability can be attributed to the formation of irreversible coordination bonds between metal cations and lignocellulosic microfibrils in the wood cell wall. Nucleic acid delivery by viral and non-viral methods has been a cornerstone for the contemporary gene therapy aimed at correcting the defective genes, replacing of the missing genes, or downregulating the expression of anomalous genes is highly desirable for the management of various diseases. Ostensibly, it becomes paramount for the delivery vectors to intersect the biological barriers for accessing their destined site within the cellular environment. However, the lipophilic nature of biological membranes and their potential to limit the entry of large sized, charged, hydrophilic molecules thus presenting a sizeable challenge for the cellular integration of negatively charged nucleic acids. Furthermore, the susceptibility of nucleic acids towards the degrading enzymes (nucleases) in the lysosomes present in cytoplasm is another matter of concern for their cellular and nuclear delivery. Hence, there is a pressing need for the identification and development of cationic delivery systems which encapsulate the cargo nucleic acids where the charge facilitates their cellular entry by evading the membrane barriers, and the encapsulation shields them from the enzymatic attack in cytoplasm. Cycloamylose bearing a closed loop conformation presents a robust candidature in this regard owing to its remarkable encapsulating tendency towards nucleic acids including siRNA, CpG DNA, and siRNA. The presence of numerous hydroxyl groups on the cycloamylose periphery provides sites for its chemical modification for the introduction of cationic groups, including spermine, (3-Chloro-2 hydroxypropyl) trimethylammonium chloride (Q188), and diethyl aminoethane (DEAE). The resulting cationic cycloamylose possesses a remarkable transfection efficiency and provides stability to cargo oligonucleotides against endonucleases, in addition to modulating the undesirable side effects such as unwanted immune stimulation. Cycloamylose is known to interact with the cell membranes where they release certain membrane components such as phospholipids and cholesterol thereby resulting in membrane destabilization and permeabilization. Furthermore, cycloamylose derivatives also serve as formulation excipients for improving the efficiency of other gene delivery systems. This review delves into the various vector and non-vector-based gene delivery systems, their advantages, and limitations, eventually leading to the identification of cycloamylose as an ideal candidate for nucleic acid delivery. Much of current clinical interest has focused on mRNA therapeutics for the treatment of lung-associated diseases, such as infections, genetic disorders, and cancers. However, the safe and efficient delivery of mRNA therapeutics to the lungs, especially to different pulmonary cell types, is still a formidable challenge. In this paper, we proposed a cationic lipid pair (CLP) strategy, which utilized the liver-targeted ionizable lipid and its derived quaternary ammonium lipid as the CLP to improve liver-to-lung tropism of four-component lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for in vivo mRNA delivery. Interestingly, the structure-activity investigation identified that using liver-targeted ionizable lipids with higher mRNA delivery performance and their derived lipid counterparts is the optimal CLP design for improving lung-targeted mRNA delivery. The CLP strategy was also verified to be universal and suitable for clinically available ionizable lipids such as SM-102 and ALC-0315 to develop lung-targeted LNP delivery systems. Moreover, we demonstrated that CLP-based LNPs were safe and exhibited potent mRNA transfection in pulmonary endothelial and epithelial cells. As a result, we provided a powerful CLP strategy for shifting the mRNA delivery preference of LNPs from the liver to the lungs, exhibiting great potential for broadening the application scenario of mRNA-based therapy.

The coexistence of metal cations is often accompanied by organic pollution and could affect the environmental fate of organics by mediating the formation of cation bridges. However, the environmental fate and risk of organics in cation co-existing environments are poorly understood due to the lack of accurate identification of cation bridge formation and stability. In this study, the sorption of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) on montmorillonite (MT) with the coexistence of three different valence metal cations (Na + , Ca 2+ , and Cr 3+ ) was investigated. Ca 2+ and Cr 3+ can significantly promote the sorption of SMX on MT for about 5∼10 times promotion, respectively, while Na + bridges displayed little effect on the sorption of SMX. The sorption binding energy of SMX with MT-Ca (-44.01 kcal/mol) and MT-Cr (-64.57 kcal/mol) bridges was significantly lower than that with MT-Na (-38.45 kcal/mol) and MT (-39.39 kcal/mol), indicating that the sorption affinity of SMX on Cr and Ca bridges was much stronger. The higher valence of the cations also resulted in a more stable adsorbed SMX with less desorption fluctuation. In addition, the relatively higher initial concentration of SMX and the valence of cations increased the bonding density of the cation bridges, thus promoting the apparent sorption of SMX on MT to a certain extent. This work reveals the formation and function of cation bridges in the sorption of SMX on MT. The aging process of microplastics (MPs) could significantly change their physical and chemical characteristics and impact their migration behavior in soil. However, the complex effects of different cations and humic acids (HA) on the migration of aged MPs through saturated media are not clear. In this research, the migration and retention of pristine/aged PSMPs (polystyrene microplastics) under combined effects of cations (Na + , Ca 2+ ) (ionic strength = 10 mM) and HA (0, 5, 15 mg/L) were investigated and analyzed in conjunction with the two-site kinetic retention model and DLVO theory. The findings showed that the aging process accelerated PSMPs migration under all tested conditions. Aged PSMPs were less susceptible to Ca 2+ than pristine PSMPs. Under Ca 2+ conditions, pristine/aged PSMPs showed higher retention than under Na + conditions in the absence of HA. Furthermore, under Na + conditions, the migration of aged PSMPs significantly increased at higher concentrations of HA. However, under Ca 2+ conditions, the migration of aged PSMPs decreased significantly at higher concentrations of HA. In higher HA conditions, HA, Ca 2+ , and PSMPs interact to cause larger aggregations, resulting in the sedimentation of aged PSMPs. The DLVO calculations and two-site kinetic retention models' results showed the detention of PSMPs was irreversible under higher HA conditions (15 mg/L) with Ca 2+ , and aged PSMPs were more susceptible to clogging. A series of laboratory experiments are conducted to simulate the acidification and subsequent recovery of a sand aquifer exploited by in situ recovery (ISR) mining. A sulfuric acid solution (pH 2) is first injected into a column packed with sand from the Zoovch Ovoo uranium roll front deposit (Mongolia). Solutions representative of local groundwater or enriched in cations (Na + , Mg 2+ ) are then circulated through the column to simulate the inflow of aquifer water. pH and major ion concentrations (Na + , Cl - , SO 4 2- , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ ) measured at the column outlet reproduce the overall evolution of porewater chemistry observed in the field. The presence of minor quantities of swelling clay minerals (≈6 wt% smectite) is shown to exert an important influence on the behavior of inorganic cations, particularly H + ) measured at the column outlet reproduce the overall evolution of porewater chemistry observed in the field. It is important to study the steel corrosion inhibition behavior in complex chloride salt environments. This paper uses the fact that calcined layered double hydroxides (CLDHs) have a certain memory effect, which means that it can reabsorb water and anions and partially restore the lamellar structure under certain conditions. This work investigated the influence of cation types on the steel corrosion inhibition behavior of CLDH in saturated calcium hydroxide solution using equilibrium isotherms of Cl− uptake, the electrochemical method, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The results show that the corrosion inhibition of the CLDH is affected by the cation types in the following order: Ca2+>Mg2+>K+≈Na+·Na+ and K+ increase the pH of the solution and decrease the corrosion inhibition of CLDH. The addition of Mg2+ can promote the reconstruction of Mg-Al-Zn-Cl hydrotalcite. The addition of Ca2+ can promote the formation of new Ca-Al layered double hydroxide (Ca-Al-LDH) and improve the corrosion inhibition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the past 20 years, perovskite-related research has attracted wide attention. The related research into two-dimensional/quasi-two-dimensional perovskite has propelled the research of perovskite materials to a new height. To improve the properties of quasi-2D perovskite, improve the stability of materials, and achieve specific functions, using different types, volumes, and lengths of organic spacers is an essential method. In this paper, quasi-2D perovskites with EDA (ethylene diammonium), PDA (1,3-propanediammonium), and BDA (1,4-butanediammonium) (m = 2–4) as organic spacers were prepared, and the effects of different organic spacers on the 2D perovskite were investigated. The results show that the length of the organic spacer significantly impacts the perovskite's properties. A shorter organic spacer can effectively reduce the quantum confinement and dielectric confinement in perovskite. It should be noted that if the organic spacer is too short, the stability of the quasi-2D perovskite will be greatly reduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A superatom is a cluster of atoms that acts like a single atom. Two main groups of superatoms are superalkalis and superhalogens, which mimic the chemistry of alkali and halogen atoms, respectively. The ionization energies of superalkalis are smaller than those of alkalis (<3.89 eV for cesium atom), and the electron affinities of superhalogens are larger than that of halogens (>3.61 eV for chlorine atom). Exploring new superalkali/superhalogen aims to provide reliable data and predictions of the use of such compounds as redox agents in the reduction/oxidation of counterpart systems, as well as the role they can play more generally in materials science. The low ionization energies of superalkalis make them candidates for catalysts for CO2 conversion into renewable fuels and value-added chemicals. The large electron affinity of superhalogens makes them strong oxidizing agents for bonding and removing toxic molecules from the environment. By using the superatoms as building blocks of cluster-assembled materials, we can achieve the functional features of atom-based materials (like conductivity or catalytic potential) while having more flexibility to achieve higher performance. This feature paper covers the issues of designing such compounds and demonstrates how modifications of the superatoms (superhalogens and superalkalis) allow for the tuning of the electronic structure and might be used to create unique functional materials. The designed superatoms can form stable perovskites for solar cells, electrolytes for Li-ion batteries of electric vehicles, superatomic solids, and semiconducting materials. Recently, polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) have surfaced as a viable solution for selective transport and metallic ions separation. The efficiency of such membranes is subject to a number of factors, including the preparation method and relevant physico-chemical characteristics. In this paper, an improvement of a novel category of PIMs for performing ions separation is reported. The membranes were prepared using a mixture of two polymers: cellulose triacetate (CTA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), three different carriers, Aliquat 336 (basic), di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) (acid) and tributyl phosphate (TBP) (neutral) and plasticized by dioctyle phthalate (DOP). All synthesized membranes were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). A study of the transport of Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Pb(II) species using the synthesized membranes was conducted. In fair weather, the vertical atmospheric electric field is oriented downward (positive in the earth surface ordinate system) in the global atmospheric circuit. Some researchers have revealed the unique phenomenon whereby once an upward vertical atmospheric electric field is observed in fair weather, an earthquake (EQ) follows within 2–48 h regardless of the EQ magnitude. However, the mechanism has not been explained with a suitable physical model. In this paper, a physical model is presented considering four types of forces acting on charged particles in the air. It is demonstrated that the heavier positive ions and lighter negative ions are rapidly separated. Finally, a reversed fair weather electrostatic field is formed by the above charge separation process. Hydrothermal conversion of actinide oxalates has recently gained attention as an innovative fabrication route for nuclear fuels but has remained mainly limited to tetra- or tri-valent cations. We report herein the reductive conversion of mixtures of uranyl and oxalate ions into UO2+x oxides under mild hydrothermal conditions (T = 250 °C). A multi-parametric study first led to specifying the optimal conditions in terms of pH, oxalate/U ratio and duration to provide a quantitative precipitation of uranium in the hyper-stoichiometric dioxide form with pH = 0.8; R = noxalate/nU = 3, and t = 72 hours. Particularly, pH was evidenced as a key parameter, with 3 different compounds obtained over a range of only 0.4 units. The mechanism leading to the formation of UO2+x was then investigated thanks to an in situ XANES study. Analysis of the supernatant showed that U(VI) was quickly reduced into U(IV) thanks to the presence of oxalates and/or their decomposition products in solution, following first-order kinetics. Tetravalent uranium was then hydrolysed, leading to the precipitation of UO2+x as the only crystalline phase. This study thus demonstrates that the hydrothermal conversion of actinide oxalates into oxides is an extremely versatile tool that can be implemented in a large variety of chemical systems, particularly in terms of the oxidation state of the cations initially present in solution. Reactions of bromoantimonate(III) containing solutions with Br2 in the presence of different organic cations result in structurally highly diverse crystalline products readily forming halogen bonds (XBs). Herein, we add six new compounds to this palette using 1,n-bis(3-methylpyridinium)- or (4-methylpyridinium)alkane dications; the complexes were characterized using X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Co(III) complexes of the N-heterocyclic carbene ligand PY4Im (PY4Im = (1,3-bis(bis(2-pyridyl)methyl)imidazol-2-ylidene)) having the general formula [(PY4Im)Co(X)](ClO4)n (X = NCMe; n = 3: OH−, N3−, NCS−, ONO−, F−; n = 2: O2CO2−, n = 1; (N3−)3, n = 0) were prepared and structurally characterised. X-ray structural data are consistent with the presence of a trans influence due to the coordinated carbene carbon, and this is also supported by computational results. 13C NMR spectra of the complexes did not display peaks corresponding to the carbene carbon, except in the case of the [(PY4Im)Co(O2CO)]+ cation, where a peak at δ = 170.21 ppm was observed. However, HMBC spectra allowed indirect determination of the chemical shifts of the carbene carbon in the remaining complexes, owing to the geometry of the PY4Im ligand. The detection of excess toxic anions or cations in an aqueous solution through various fluorescent materials such as organic or inorganic fluorescent materials has aroused significant interest recently. Herein, a new tetraimidazole ligand 1,3-bis(1-imidazolyl)-5-[3,5-bis(1-imidazolyl)-phenoxymethyl]-benzene (timpb) and its two Cd(II) metal–organic frameworks {[Cd2(1,4-bdc)2(timpb)]·5.5(H2O)}n (1) (1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid = 1,4-H2bdc) and {[Cd2(4,4′-bpdb)2(timpb)]·(MeCN)·2.5(H2O)}n (2) (4,4′-biphenyldicarboxylic acid = 4,4′-H2bpdb) were synthesized. Through X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis, 1 can be considered as a 2-fold interpenetrating pillared-bilayer framework formed by linking [Cd2(1,4-bdc)4]n layers with pairs of timpb ligands, whereas 2 exhibits a 2-fold interpenetrating 3D honeycombed framework formed by linking [Cd(4,4′-bpdb)]n chains with timpb ligands. The solid-state luminescent properties of timpb, 1 and 2 at ambient temperature were also investigated. Moreover, timpb acted as a potential luminescent sensor for the detection of cations Fe3+ or Cu2+ and the anion Cr2O72−, whereas 1 displayed high sensitivity toward the cation Fe3+ and anion Cr2O72−. The use of non thermal plasma (NTP) to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) has grown considerably in recent years. This paper demonstrates the advantage of NTP for IAQ improvement in terms of particulate matter (PM) removal. The PM removal mechanism using active air ions and radicals has been investigated. From the developed dielectric barreir discharge (DBD) air plasma reactor, the total PM removal efficiency of 61.72% has been achieved at an optimised concentration of negative and positive air ions in 2 hours of continuous operation. Due to the utilised sensor's limit of quantification (LOQ), PM 2.5 and PM 10 have been reduced to a certain value. ortho-N-Substituted pyridinium cations with the weakly coordinating anion [B(C6F5)4]− have been studied and crucial structural features in the sp2 C–H borylation catalysis of 3-methylthiophene have been identified. The electron-deficiency of the aromatic core of the cation is essential for activity together with accessible protons. The spectroscopic yield of the borylation of 3-methylthiophene with catecholborane (CatBH) was optimized up to 86% and the method was further applied to other substrates such as N-alkylbenzenes. A mechanistic DFT study revealed the rate-limiting step in the catalysis to be the liberation of molecular H2 (ΔG‡ = 27.5 kcal mol−1), whereas the overall reaction was found to be exergonic by 5.1 kcal mol−1. The Raman and infrared (IR) wavenumbers were computed for the Aurivillius structure ABi4Ti4O15 (ABT) (ACa, Sr, Ba) in an orthorhombic space group (A21am, No. 36, C122v) using normal coordinate analysis. This study aimed to investigate the impact of A‐site cations on vibrational phonons. The analysis of zone center phonons primarily involved numerous stretching and bending bonds, serving as force constants. These force constants were utilized to assign the calculated wavenumbers in the examined phase for the first time. The theoretical findings in this paper exhibited a favorable correlation with the wavenumbers reported in the literature. Comparisons of force constants, bond lengths, and wavenumbers were conducted to elucidate A‐site cation disordering in these intricate compounds. The outcomes indicated that, in the studied complexes, the Sr atom exhibited an ideal radius for fitting into the structure. The mass of the A‐site cations was identified as a factor contributing to tilts in the octahedra. An additional analysis was carried out to assess the impact of A‐cations on both the affected equatorial and axial bonds, providing a clearer understanding of the structure. Outer octahedra displayed greater sensitivity to A‐site cations compared with inner octahedra. A study of potential energy distribution was also conducted in this work to determine the significance of each force constant in all calculated wavenumbers. It was observed that higher wavenumbers were predominantly influenced by vibrations in oxygen atoms, while lower wavenumbers were mainly affected by A‐site cations. Static time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) was performed for acquiring the high-resolution surface spectra of four types of synthesized imidazolium ionene membranes. These novel membranes have aromatic ether–ketone–ether linkages inspired by poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK). The PEEK-ionenes synthesized for this study have imidazolium cations placed in the polymeric backbone with bistriflimide [Tf2N]− counterions. The attention given to synthetically modified PEEK derivatives, such as PEEK-ionenes, is considerable due to their ability to selectively capture CO2 molecules and other light gases. Therefore, it is important to characterize the surface of these synthesized novel PEEK-ionenes. In this work, characteristic and unique peaks were identified in the positive spectra of each sample. The differences in mass spectra among the samples provide insights for optimizing or fine-tuning the PEEK-ionenes synthesis to achieve a high-performance CO2 separation membrane with enhanced permeability, selectivity, and mechanical stability. The SIMS spectra and identified characteristic peaks of these synthesized ionenes will serve as a reference in the positive mode, complementing the corresponding spectra reported in the negative ion mode (Paper II). A series of single crystals of Ni3−xCoxB2O6 compounds with the kotoite structure and with different concentrations of transition metal ions (x = 0; 0.19; 0.6; 0.93 and 2) were obtained. The lattice parameters and atomic coordinates were determined using X-ray diffraction. The theoretical calculations using the WIEN2k package predict that nickel ions tend to occupy the 4f crystallographic position, while cobalt ions tend to occupy the 2a crystallographic position. The study of the diffuse scattering spectra and comparison of the Racah parameters for the compounds Ni3B2O6 and Co2NiB2O6 provides experimental evidence that nickel ions occupy crystallographic position 4f. Owing to its high natural abundance compared to the commonly used transition (precious) metals, as well as its high Lewis acidity and ability to change oxidation state, aluminium has recently been explored as the basis for a range of single‐site catalysts. This paper aims to establish the ground rules for the development of a new type of cationic alkene oligomerisation catalyst containing two Al(III) ions, with the potential to act co‐operatively in stereoselective assembly. Five new dimers of the type [R2Al(2‐py′)]2 (R=Me, iBu; py′=substituted pyridyl group) with different substituents on the Al atoms and pyridyl rings have been synthesised. The formation of the undesired cis isomers can be suppressed by the presence of substituents on the 6‐position of the pyridyl ring due to steric congestion, with DFT calculations showing that the selection of the trans isomer is thermodynamically controlled. Calculations show that demethylation of the dimers [Me2Al(2‐py′)]2 with Ph3C+ to the cations [{MeAl(2‐py')}2(μ‐Me)]+ is highly favourable and that the desired trans disposition of the 2‐pyridyl ring units is influenced by steric effects. This paper is concerned with the initial-boundary value problem on the isentropic Euler-Poisson equations arising in plasma physics in the half space for the spatial dimension n = 1 , 2 , 3 . By assuming that the velocity of the positive ion satisfies the Bohm criterion at the far field, we establish the global unique existence and the large time asymptotic stability of boundary layer (i.e., stationary solution) in some weighted Sobolev spaces by weighted energy method. The [18F]fluorobenzyltriphenylphosphonium cation ([18F]FBnTP) has emerged as a highly promising positron emission tomography (PET) tracer for myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) due to its uniform distribution in the myocardium and favorable organ biodistribution demonstrated in preclinical studies. However, a complex and low-efficiency radiosynthesis procedure has significantly hindered its broader preclinical and clinical explorations. Recently, Zhang et al. developed a pinacolyl arylboronate precursor, enabling a one-step synthesis process that greatly streamlines the production of [18F]FBnTP. Building upon this progress, our group successfully adapted the approach to a microdroplet reaction format and demonstrated improved radiosynthesis performance in a preliminary optimization study. However, scaling up to clinical dose amounts was not explored. In this work, we demonstrate that scale-up can be performed in a straightforward manner using a "numbering up" strategy (i.e. performing multiple droplet reactions in parallel and pooling the crude products). The resulting radiochemical yield after purification and formulation was high, up to 66 ± 1% (n = 4) for a set of experiments involving pooling of 4 droplet reactions, accompanied by excellent radiochemical purity (>99%) and molar activity (339–710 GBq μmol−1). Notably, we efficiently achieved sufficient activity yield (0.76–1.84 GBq) for multiple clinical doses from 1.6 to 3.7 GBq of [18F]fluoride in just 37–47 min. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although numerous non-metallic pentazolate (cyclo-N5−) salts have been synthesized and investigated, no cyclo-N5− salt containing cage-like cations has been reported to date. To identify how cage-like cations impact the structures and properties of cyclo-N5− salts, we synthesized and examined two cyclo-N5− salts (C10H18N6 and C6H14N12) based on cage-like cations. Furthermore, the structures and performances of these cyclo-N5− salts were compared. The results suggest that the cyclo-N5− salts based on cage-like cations possess good insensitivity (IS > 40 N, FS > 360 J), which provides a good idea for developing new energetic salts with low sensitivity. Furthermore, we compared C6H14N12 with chain-like cationic pentazolate salt based on a similar structure and reported that C6H14N12 demonstrated improved density and detonation performance. This result indicates that selecting cage-like cations as antagonistic ions to cyclo-N5− anions may be an improved choice compared to chain-like cations having similar structures. White light solid-state lighting applications still face significant challenges due to insufficient efficient and stable red light emitting materials. Therefore, a series of orange-red fluorescent materials, CaLu 2-x Mg 2 Si 3 O 12 :xCe3+ (CLMS:xCe3+; x = 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.10, 0.12) were prepared in this paper. Luminescence spectra testing revealed that the optimal concentration of Ce3+ ions in the crystal lattice is x = 0.04. At 460 nm excitation, the emission wavelength is approximately 592 nm. To enhance the thermal stability and luminescence performance of CLMS:Ce3+, the CaLu 1.96-y Me y Mg 2 Si 3 O 12 :0.04Ce3+ (Me = Sr, Ba; y = 0, 0.02, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20) fluorescent materials were successfully prepared. It was found that phosphor's fluorescence intensity was enhanced after the introduction of Sr2+ or Ba2+ ions. Meanwhile, the phosphors were tested for thermal stability, and the emission intensities of CLMS:0.04Ce3+, CLMS:0.04Ce3+,0.10Sr2+, and CLMS:0.04Ce3+,0.05Ba2+ phosphors decreased to 77.60%, 85.53%, and 87.63% at 423 K, respectively. This proves that Sr2+ and Ba2+ ions have a positive effect on the thermal stability performance of CLMS:0.04Ce3+ phosphor. Testing of the w-LED devices, the CCT was reduced. The CRI was improved to 80.4 and 81.6 and luminescence efficiency was improved to 107.71 lm/W and 115.04 lm/W after Sr2+ or Ba2+ ions were introduced. In summary, this study demonstrates that CaLu 2-x-y Me y Mg 2 Si 3 O 12 :xCe3+ (Me = Sr, Ba) is an auspicious fluorescent material with high thermal stability, which is potentially informative for the field of white-light illumination. Subphthalocyanines (SubPcs) and their aza-analogues (SubTPyzPzs) are fluorophores with strong orange fluorescence emission; however, their sensing ability towards metal cations remains uncharted. To fill this gap, we have developed an efficient method for introducing aza-crown moieties at the axial position of SubPcs and SubTPyzPzs to investigate the structure–activity relationship for sensing alkali (Li+, Na+, K+) and alkaline earth metal (Ca2+, Mg2+, Ba2+) cations. SubPcs showed better photostability than SubTPyzPzs and even a commonly utilized dye, 6-carboxyfluorescein. Selectivity toward metal cations was driven by the size of the aza-crown, irrespective of the counter anion. The stoichiometry of binding was found to be 1 : 1 in all cases, and the interaction between SubPcs and cations was characterized by the corresponding apparent binding constants (Ka). Notably, an unusually strong interaction of all sensoric SubPcs with Ba2+ compared to other studied cations was demonstrated. The role of the surrounding environment, i.e. the addition of water or methanol, in sensing cations is shown in detail as well. Selectivity towards K+ over Na+ was demonstrated in aqueous media with SubPcs bearing the 1-aza-6-crown-18 moiety in Tween 80 micelles. In this case, a 5-fold increase of the fluorescence quantum yield was observed upon binding K+ ions. In recent years, hybrid manganese(II) halides (HMHs) have attracted wide attention due to their impressive optical properties, low toxicity, and facile synthetic processibility. Being effective reabsorption-free phosphors, these compounds demonstrate the potential to be used as low-cost solution-processable scintillators. However, most of the HMHs studied to date contain bulk organic cations and, as a result, are characterized by low density and low X-ray stopping power. For this reason, we studied manganese(II) bromides with compact organic cations such as formamidinium (FA+) and acetamidinium (AcA+). In particular, we synthesized four new phases, two of which are characterized by octahedral coordination of manganese ions ((FA)MnBr3 and (AcA)MnBr3) and red emission, whereas the other two have tetrahedrally coordinated Mn2+ ions ((FA)3MnBr5 and (AcA)2MnBr4) and green emission. Photoluminescence (PL) and radioluminescence measurements demonstrated high PL quantum yields and reasonable scintillation light yields of acetamidinium-based compounds. In addition, unlike most known HMH-based scintillators, the discovered materials have a relatively high density due to the small fraction of the volume occupied by organic cations, so their X-ray attenuation coefficients are comparable to the well-known oxide scintillators. Achieving high luminescent quantum yield and thermal stability of phosphors simultaneously remains challenging, yet it is critical for facilitating high-power white light emitting diodes (WLEDs). Herein, we report the design and preparation of the layered structure BaZnB4O8:xEu3+ (0.10 ≤ x ≤ 0.60) red phosphors with high quantum yield (QY = 76.5%) and thermal stability (82.8%@150 °C) by the traditional solid-state reaction method. The results of XRD and Rietveld refinement show that the presence of Eu3+ ions at Ba2+ sites causes the formation of cation (Zn2+/Ba2+) vacancies in the lattice. The PL and PL decay results reveal that the quenching concentration of BZBO:xEu3+ phosphors is as high as 50%, and the lifetime remains unchanged with Eu3+ concentration due to the unique structure of the host and the cation vacancies generated by the heterovalent substitution. Furthermore, on a 395 nm near-UV chip, a pc-WLED device with exceptional optical performance (CCT = 4415 K, CRI = 92.1) was realized using the prepared BZBO:0.50Eu3+ as a red phosphor. Simple synthesis and excellent performance parameters suggest that the reported BaZnB4O8:xEu3+ phosphors have promising applications in high-power pc-WLEDs. At the same time, it also indicates that cationic vacancy engineering based on heterovalent ion substitution is a potential strategy for improving luminescence quantum yield and thermal quenching performance. Samples of the pseudo-binary system Na2−xLixGa7 (x ≤ 1) were synthesized from the elements at 300 °C in sealed Ta ampoules or by the reaction of Na2Ga7 with LiCl. The peritectic formation temperature decreases with increasing Li content from 501(2) °C (x = 0) to 489(2) °C (x = 1). The boundary compositions Na2Ga7 and Na1Li1Ga7 crystallize with different structure types related by a group–subgroup relation. While the Na-rich compositions (x ≤ 0.5) represent a substitutional solid solution (space group Pnma), the Li-rich compositions feature an unconventional replacement mechanism in which Li atoms occupying interstitial positions induce vancancies at the Na positions (space group Cmce). The crystal structure of Na1Li1Ga7 (a = 8.562(1) Å, b = 14.822(2) Å, c = 11.454(2) Å; Z = 8) was determined from X-ray single-crystal diffraction data, and reveals an anionic framework comprising 12-bonded Ga12 icosahedra and 4-bonded Ga atoms, with alkali–metal atoms occupying channels and cavities. The arrangement of cations makes NaLiGa7 a new structure type within the MgB12Si2 structure family. Band structure calculations for the composition NaLiGa7 predict semiconducting behavior consistent with the balance [Na+]2[Li+]2[(Ga12)2−][Ga–]2, considering closo Wade clusters [(12b)Ga12]2− and Zintl anions [(4b)Ga]−. This paper comprehensively investigates the oblique propagation of ion-acoustic solitary waves (IASWs) with arbitrary amplitude in a magnetoplasma consisting of inertialess non-Maxwellian (nonthermal) electrons, inertialess Maxwellian positrons, and inertial adiabatically heated ions. It is postulated that the positive ions demonstrate adiabatic behavior that is distinguished by anisotropic thermal pressure. The study utilizes Sagdeev's pseudopotential theory to analyze the fluid equations of the plasma model and reduce them to the energy equation. Different plasma configuration factors, such as nonthermal parameters, positron concentration, and parallel and perpendicular ion pressure, are being studied to see how they affect the properties of solitary waves with large amplitudes. The findings demonstrate the simultaneous coexistence of compressive and rarefactive IASWs, significantly influenced by positrons and nonthermal electron parameters. The present study describes the chemosensing capability of an N 2 O 4 -donor tetrabenzodiaza-crown ether macrocyclic ligand derivatized by two pyridine side arms to afford the flexible macrocyclic ligand, 5,20-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)-5,6,12,13,19,20,26,27octahydrotetrabenzo [e,i,o,s][1,4,11,14]tetraoxa[7,18]diazacycloicosine (PMHBOA). A selective colorimetric behavior of PMHBOA for the prompt detection of Cr(ΙΙΙ) and Co(ΙΙ) can be observed with naked eyes. The 1H, 13C{H} NMR, and infrared spectroscopy disclosed the ligand binding capability for selective metal ions, ascribed to a 1:1 complex formation with Cr(III) and Co(II) cations in isopropanol. The limit of detection (LOD) values were calculated as 580 and 850 nM for Cr(ΙΙΙ) and Co(ΙΙ), respectively, accompanied with suitable LOQs as 1.95 µM for Cr(III) and 2.85 µM for Co(II), respectively. The reusability was confirmed in the presence of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Moreover, a TLC-based fabricated paper strip successfully applied PMHBOA as a chemosensor for synchronous visible detection of Cr(III) and Co(II) in their alcoholic solution. Meanwhile, the observed color change along with the turn-off fluorescent of PMHBOA guaranteed a felicitous choice of candidate for Cr(III) in the presence of other library metal ions in isopropanol:H 2 O (9/1 v/v) solution. A fast separation test on the filter paper, impregnated with PMHBOA, was also employed to separate Cr(III) and Co(II) cations from aqueous solutions by recording UV–vis spectra. Chiral 2D and quasi-2D hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) are emerging as promising materials for a variety of applications principally related to optoelectronics and spintronics, thanks to the combined benefits deriving from both the chiral cation and the perovskite structure. Since its recent birth, this research field is tremendously growing, focalizing on the chemical composition tuning to unveil its influence on the related functional properties as well as on developing devices for practical applications. In this review, we focused on the properties of 2D and quasi-2D chiral HOIPs, firstly providing an overview on their chiroptical behaviour followed by their potential exploitation in devices investigated so far for various applicative fields. This review provides an in-depth examination of recent progress in the development of chemosensors, with a particular emphasis on colorimetric and fluorescent probes. It systematically explores various sensing mechanisms, including metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT), ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT), photoinduced electron transfer (PET), intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), and elucidates the mechanism of action for cation and anion chemosensors. Special attention is given to phenothiazine-based fluorescence probes, highlighting their exceptional sensitivity and rapid detection abilities for a broad spectrum of analytes, including cations, anions, and small molecules. Phenothiazine chemosensors have emerged as versatile tools widely employed in a multitude of applications, spanning environmental and biomedical fields. Bentonite, used as a barrier material in landfill systems and the geological disposal of radioactive waste, undergoes various processes such as the cation exchange with landfill leachate and repository groundwater, desiccation shrinkage due to heat released from solid waste or nuclide decay. In the context of these engineering applications, it is crucial to consider the effect of interlayer cation composition on the desiccation-shrinkage behavior of bentonite for assessing the long-term performance of barrier systems. This study investigates this impact by conducting desiccation tests on four different cation-type bentonite samples (i.e., K-, Na-, Ca-, and Mg-bentonite) and elucidating the underlying mechanisms through mercury intrusion porosimetry test, X-ray diffraction analysis, and suction measurements. The results indicate that K-bentonite exhibits the highest water evaporation rate and the lowest shrinkage potential, with no shrinkage cracks detected, and that Na-bentonite evaporates water at a relatively fast rate but presents the most pronounced volumetric shrinkage. In contrast, Ca- and Mg-bentonite have the highest water-retention capacity, and their shrinkage potentials are less than Na-bentonite. An improved shrinkage model is proposed, which is shown to describe the measured shrinkage curves for four types of homoionic bentonite samples. Additionally, the mechanism behind the effect of different interlayer cations was interpreted in terms of the interlayer–cation–water interaction, pore structure evolution, and soil suction variation. Several tetrahydroxidohexaoxidopentaborate(1-) salts of N-substituted diimidazolium cations or N-substituted dipyrrolidinium cations linked through N-C6-N chains have been synthesized and characterized spectroscopically (NMR, IR) and by single-crystal XRD studies: [R(NC3H3N)(CH2)6(NC3H3N)R][B5O6(OH)4]2·xH2O (R = Me, x = 0 (1); R = Et, x = 3 (2); [Me(NC3H3N)(CH2(C6H4)CH2)(NC3H3N)Me][B5O6(OH)4]2 (3), [(C4H8N)(R)(CH2)6(R)(NC4H8)][B5O6(OH)4]2·xB(OH)3 (R = Me, x = 0 (4, two polymorphs); R = Et, x = 0 (5); R = Bu, x = 4 (6); R = allyl, x = 0 (7)). Representative samples (1 and 7) were also characterized by thermal (TGA/DSC) studies; compounds are thermally decomposed to B2O3 in air. Numerous anion-anion H-bonding interactions are present in the solid-state structures of 1–5 and 7 as giant anionic networks. Unusually, in 6 there are no R22(8) anion-anion interactions as the co-crystallized B(OH)3 bridges between all pentaborate anions. Despite extensive research on particulate matter (PM) pollution in India's Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP), source apportionment remains challenging. This study investigates the effect of particulate matter (PM10)-associated water soluble inorganic ions (WSIIs) on ambient air concentration across the middle IGP from January to December 2018. Moreover, the seasonal fluctuation and chemical characterization of PM10 were assessed for the year 2018. The results revealed a high concentration of PM10 (156 µg/m3), exceeding the WHO and National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) limits. The highest PM10 levels were observed during autumn, winter, summer, and the rainy season. The study identified SO42− and NH4+ as the most common WSIIs, constituting 46% and 23% of the total WSIIs. Source apportionment analysis indicated that street dust, biomass burning, and vehicle and industrial emissions together with secondary formation significantly contributed to IGP's PM pollution. Additionally, the investigation of air mass back trajectory suggests that air quality in IGP is largely influenced by eastern and western Maritime air masses originated from the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, Gujarat, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Micro-corona devices could be extensively utilized in gas sensing, switchgear, biomedicine, and other fields. As the influence mechanism of the cathode curvature radius on micro-corona discharge dynamical processes is very important for performance optimization and the promotion of these devices, a micro-scale corona discharge gas model in a mixture of N2-O2 is proposed based on the fluid–chemical mixing method, which describes the dynamic process of the discharge at atmosphere and normal temperatures. To reveal the influence mechanism of the nanowire curvature radius on the micro-corona discharge, the effect of the cathode nanowire radius on the discharge current, electric field, ionization reaction rate, and charged particle characteristics at different gaps and voltages were determined. The findings indicate that the effect of curvature radius on discharge intensity varies under different gap and voltage conditions. Further analysis indicates that an increase in curvature radius reduces the electric field near the tip while increasing the ionization area and secondary emission area as well as the number of positive ions in the space, consequently affecting the coupling process between the collision ionization and the secondary emission. Especially under the conditions of either small gap or low voltage, a suitable increase in the curvature radius could promote the coupling process and then increase the discharge current.
