The article chronicles the career of Harvard Professor Melvin T. Copeland. Copeland's academic career is highlighted, particularly his contributions to the shaping of the marketing course at the Harvard Business School to include the study of retail and wholesale operating costs and the development of the case method of study. He is also the author of "Principles of Merchandising." The article notes Copeland's experience with the Bureau of Business Research and other public service efforts.
