Abstract

The article reports on the concerns expressed by department store owners in the U.S. concerning the impact of war prosperity on their operating costs in 1943. It mentions that their main problems include the right management of prices and the rising manpower costs. According to the study conducted by Harvard Business School, the cost percentage of retailers with regards to their sales was at the lowest level for 14 years since 1928. It also indicates the rise of dollar sales in 1942 by 12.4%.
