The purpose of this study was to document factors associated with a couple's decision to manage finances entirely jointly (i.e., pooled), somewhat jointly, or separately. Based on survey data from 636 married or cohabitating respondents, test results showed that married and less well-educated individuals are more likely to pool finances with their partners. Additionally, it was determined that the odds of partners pooling finances increase as the size of a household increases and when the household exhibits a positive net worth. In this study, households with two income earners were approximately 50% less likely to pool their finances compared to households with one income earner. It was further determined that those who reported agreeing on issues related to spending were more than twice as likely to pool their finances as compared to those who did not agree with their partner on issues related to spending. The findings from this study advance the marriage and family therapy literature by showing that financial integration style and financial decision-making responsibilities are separate constructs and should not be used as proxies for one another. Research has shown that even though standardized financial education has gained prevalence to promote financial literacy over the past decade, it has had little effect on personal financial planning. The present study used a randomized control trial to examine the effectiveness of a Python‐based personalized financial projection on young working adults in Hong Kong, to examine if and how this approach improves their financial planning. Participants assigned to the experiment group received standardized financial education and Python‐based financial projections, while those in the control group only received standardized financial education. The assessment based on the two‐wave data showed that Python‐based financial projection promoted future time perspectives, reduced temporal discounting, and improved financial planning via the full mediation of promoting financial attitudes. Although numerous applications for personal financial planning exist (such as Wallet, Walnut, Monefy, and Money View), our Python‐based financial projection stands out as the pioneering solution tailored for the hands‐on manipulation of programming code to effectively manage personal finances. Our findings suggest a new track to upgrade personalized financial projection and standardized financial education and contribute generously to the development of personal finance education. SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) serve as the backbone of the Indonesian economy, in a country with the world's largest Muslim population. Therefore, further analysis is needed regarding the factors influencing the performance of SMEs in an effort to maximize the country's revenue. This research aims to investigate the influence of two key factors, namely Financial Socialization and Financial Experience, on the investment intention of private sector employees in the city of Cikarang. Additionally, this study also analyzes the role of Financial Literacy as a mediator in the relationship between Financial Socialization, Financial Experience, and Investment Intention. The research methodology employs a quantitative approach with data collection through questionnaires distributed to private sector employees in Cikarang. Data analysis is conducted using regression techniques and mediation analysis. This article emphasises the need to improve the level of financial literacy of the population, which is a qualifying driver of the harmonious development of the state's financial system and has particular relevance in the post-war economic recovery. The impact of the war on financial behaviour and the use of FinTech innovations by Ukrainians is determined. The purpose of the article is to clarify the peculiarities of assessing financial literacy and financial behaviour of Ukrainians during the war, taking into account the specifics of the impact of financial technologies (Fintech) on the economic development and welfare of Ukraine. The conceptual framework for assessing financial literacy and financial behaviour of the population is formed, which is presented as a set of interrelated elements. The paper presents the results of a survey conducted among Ukrainians, including those with IDP status, within the framework of the UK-Ukraine twinning grants scheme (Project UUT23 "Fintech as a fence for the shock and fuel for the recovery? Lessons from the war"). The results of the survey allowed us to formulate a set of recommendations both at the macro level and at the level of an individual provider to ensure that the financial market and fintech tools perform the function of economic recovery after the social trauma suffered by consumers of financial services. The significance of financial literacy is increasing faster in today's world. Financial literacy provides individuals with necessary and adequate financial knowledge and makes them professionally aware of managing their finances. It plays a vital role in the economic development of an economy. The study examines the impact of financial literacy on investors' financial decisions, financial planning, selection of financial products, and financial literacy awareness program and its influence on investors' investment decisions. In order to obtain information from the respondents, we employed a questionnaire that was both structured and self-administered. The investigation analyzes the survey responses from 360 respondents in Saudi Arabia. Various statistical methods such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, analysis of reliability, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and regression analysis were utilized to evaluate the data obtained. The results obtained in the study indicated that financial literacy has a significant impact on investors' financial decisions, financial planning, and the selection of financial products that influence investors' investment decisions. The research also found that financial literacy is affected by financial literacy awareness programs, which have a favorable influence on the investment decisions made by investors. In 1990, the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning (JFCP) was established. The journal publishes academic research on consumer financial decision-making, financial education, counseling, and planning. This article reviews the journal's contents published during the period 1990–2022. It analyzes JFCP's publication trends, citation statistics, significant themes, authors' collaborations, keywords, and contributions to the literature of consumer finance. Most studies employed Life Cycle Hypothesis and Expected Utility Theory. JFCP publishes mostly US-based quantitative empirical studies. There is a growing awareness of the importance of financial education and literacy in personal economic success, yet not many Generation Z are proficient in this area. The lack of understanding can lead to consequences such as not recognizing the need for greater retirement savings, making poor spending decisions, or when overpaying off high-interest debt. In addition, many of the studies on financial education and literacy among Generation Z remain untapped in the context of China. As a result, the researcher emphasizes the evidence by mining data from the Web of Science database and analyzing the data using bibliometrics and content analysis. Contemporary research on financial education and literacy in the web of science has discovered that it is trending strongly across fields like environmental science, healthcare, energy, and economics, according to bibliometric data. Further investigation has uncovered the important writers, journal sources, and universities in China that are creating such knowledge. Subsequently, the content analysis on the focused area has yielded results related to recent findings from key authors, and how their studies describe the socio-demographic and psychological behavior of Generation Zs. Objective –This study aims to obtain empirical evidence of the effect of economic incentives, financial technology, and financial literacy on financial planning. Methodology –The data used in this study came from a questionnaire with 113 millennial respondents who live throughout Indonesia. The objective of this study was to identify the level of financial literacy among South African households and statistically ascertain the impact of financial literacy variables on household savings behaviour. Quantitative research was conducted to achieve these objectives, where data was collected from the employees of City of Tshwane and Mahikeng Municipality. A cluster analysis was employed to identify the group cluster of respondents. In addition, a Path Coefficient analysis was conducted to identify the significance of financial literacy on household savings behaviour. The study's findings revealed that the respondents have a reasonable level of financial literacy, which is in line with the conceptual findings of previous literatures. Secondly, it was ascertained that variables under financial control, financial planning, financial knowledge, and understanding positively impact household savings behaviour. Meaning that the more they are familiar with these variables, the more they are likely to save. On the contrary, the variables under the construct of knowledge of financial products and services were identified to impact household savings behaviour negatively, meaning that the more they are knowledgeable on financial products and services, the lesser they are likely to save. Hence, it was concluded that stakeholders and policymakers in charge of financial and savings literacy in South Africa should incorporate these identified positive variables of financial literacy into their savings campaign programmes. This study examines the financial literacy level of Indian professional women and its relation to their retirement planning behavior. We use factor analysis and the Rasch model to evaluate the validity and reliability of a financial literacy scale. Additionally, we use multiple regression to examine the association between demographic characteristics and financial literacy with retirement planning. Our results reveal that the respondents display low levels of financial literacy as reflected by a lack of awareness about both basic and advanced financial concepts. Further, a woman's age, income, profession (financial), and understanding of advanced financial concepts are key factors associated with retirement planning behavior. Anchored in the behavioral life-cycle model, the life-cycle consumption model, and the utility theory, we propose a new model that examines the channel through which financial literacy impacts on financial satisfaction. The data were gleaned with a self-administrated questionnaire from individual investors. The results disclose that financial planning mediates the relationship between financial literacy and financial satisfaction, and further, reveal that the moderating role of gender of the relationship between financial planning and financial satisfaction. This study examined the use of data visualization to improve financial literacy in adults. Using financial knowledge questions as test items this study used an experimental approach. Poisson regression was conducted on responses from 1,797 participants to an online survey via SurveyMonkey. Approximately one-third of respondents were assigned to a text-only group explaining a financial concept, one-third to a group that received a visualization plus text explanation of the concept, and one-third to a control group with no intervention. The findings suggest visualization of data assist in assimilation of financial knowledge compared to no intervention and to text interventions. This article examined the relationship of household financial behaviors and accesses. Using the 2015 National Financial Capability Study, the current study conducted latent class analysis of financial behaviors to identify latent classes (N = 27,564). The distribution of access was investigated among latent classes, which were regressed on the financial behaviors of financial planning and financial spending factors and other covariates using multinomial logistic regression. After controlling for other variables, the odds of being in Thinly Banked, Limited Access, and Working Families classes instead of being in Investors class decreased by 90%, 88%, and 66% for every point higher in financial planning behavior, respectively. We used survey data from a cross-sectional New Zealand sample of adults to examine whether financial socialization and financial literacy are associated with their financial behavior. The results show different financial socialization experiences of adult males compared to adult females are associated with higher financial literacy and higher financial confidence. Adults with education in finance and economics had higher financial literacy and financial confidence in managing their personal finances. Furthermore, those with high self-assessed confidence in managing personal finance but low financial literacy, have a higher propensity to engage in undesirable financial behaviors. Objective: We reviewed the literature on four financial‐helping fields—the family resource management content area of family life education, financial education, personal financial planning, and financial counseling—in search of best evidence‐based practices when working with individuals and families concerning issues related to money. Method: Experts in each field of the financial helping professions reviewed common practices in their own field and identified best practices when possible. Results: Although we found that reviews of financial education outcome research exist, researchers and practitioners have made few attempts to examine best practices in these fields; most of the practices that professionals use in these four fields have not been empirically tested for effectiveness. Consequently, we provide a general overview of common practices within the four fields. This study examines the roles of internal and external search characteristics and attitudinal factors in investors' decisions to utilize robo-advisor-based platforms. Using the 2015 state-by-state National Financial Capability Study and Investor Survey, this study finds that the need to free up time, higher risk tolerance, higher subjective financial knowledge, and higher amounts of investable assets were positively associated with individual investors' adoption of robo-advisors. Additionally, the results from the interaction model indicates that individuals under 65 with a higher risk tolerance and greater perceived investment knowledge were more likely to use robo-advisors. This study aimed to analysis financial literacy level and financial planning for retirement willingness of academicians in public universities of KP. Financial planning for the retirement and financial literacy has been a discussionable topic among researcher in the recent times because of their contribution in planning for peaceful life after retirement. Purpose: This study examined whether micro-savings programs can improve young adolescent girls' financial knowledge, savings behaviors, and schooling outcomes in Ghana.Methods: We evaluated the short- and medium-term effects of a randomized control trial in which a sub-sample of over 1400 girls living in the Eastern Region of Ghana received financial literacy training and a micro-savings account.Results: Girls in the intervention arm of the study initially exhibited higher levels of financial knowledge, planning, and savings, but some of these effects disappeared within two years. Nonetheless, girls with micro-savings retained their greater knowledge of interest rates, had higher levels of savings, and were more likely to save for school. The effects on girls' educational enrollment was strongest in the second year.Conclusions: Our results suggest that even relatively young girls can manage micro-savings accounts and that such programs, if sustained, can effectively build girls' financial and educational assets. We obtained 180 pre- and post-test surveys to investigate how an established financial literacy program may have increased financial knowledge of residents in a work release program in Augusta, Georgia. Paired t tests analyzed changes in subjective and objective financial knowledge, understanding of banking and credit, and financial attitudes. OLS regressions of pre- and post-test financial knowledge were guided by human capital theory to learn which program participant characteristics were associated with greater increase in knowledge and infer why. Education, age, and use of financial tools were significant predictors in the pretest. Controlling for pretest knowledge, there were significant, positive differences from pre- to post-test, regardless of race. The goal of the paper is to assess whether a short course in financial education has a positive impact on subjective and objective assessments of financial knowledge. We present the results of a financial literacy experiment conducted at the University of Szczecin in 2016. The experiment was the outcome of international cooperation with Italian researchers, which allowed us to compare results obtained in Italy and in Poland. It was conducted with the methodology proposed by the Italian team. The experiment covered three topics: basic interest compounding, inflation and risk diversification. Based on a sample of university students, we provide evidence that, in Poland too, a small-scale training intervention has both a statistically and economically significant effect on subjective assessments of financial knowledge and on objective assessments of investment attitudes. The aim of the present study was to examine the impact of professional financial experience on the relationships between financial knowledge and beliefs on financial planning for retirement (FPR) in young adults. We designed a domain-specific personal belief inventory comprising all important components involved in FPR. Financial professionals (n = 145) demonstrated greater knowledge of the financial retirement system compared with non-professionals (n = 382). The two groups, however, differed neither in objective nor self-rated general financial literacy. In non-professionals, higher financial literacy was positively linked to trust in the 2nd pension pillar, self-assessed competence in FPR, personal engagement in FPR, perceiving FPR as less emotionally loaded and FPR task as less complex. These predicted relationships were not found among professionals. Thus, professional experience in financial domain seems to bring a deeper and particularized insight into the pros and cons of the pension system, and consequently vacillates beliefs about FPR. Financial Education Programs –FEP– enjoy widespread governmental and private support and are considered essential tools for improving financial literacy, encouraging financial inclusion, and increasing consumer financial protection. Therefore, assessing their effectiveness is critical to guarantee that public and private resources are allocated wisely. The available empirical literature casts serious doubts on the effectiveness of FEP in achieving their objectives. Even properly designed -from an impact evaluation viewpoint- FEP fail to deliver long-run effects on individuals' financial literacy or financial outcomes. We highlight the challenges to evaluate the impact of FEP. We showcase the international experience in assessing the effectiveness of these programs and offer a set of recommendations regarding the attributes that FEP should have to allow serious policy evaluation. We find that people with higher confidence in their own financial literacy are less likely to seek financial advice, but no relation between objective measures of literacy and advice seeking. The negative association between confidence and advice seeking is more pronounced among wealthy households. We base these findings on the analysis of two rich data sources from the Netherlands: the DNB Household survey and a sample of investors from a large Dutch retail bank. Our results imply that policy makers should be careful to put financial advice forward as a mechanism to curb the ill effects of low financial literacy and that steering people towards more accurate self-assessments seems a more promising route. The validity of the Executive Personal Finance Scale (EPFS) was tested in a sample of 93 undergraduate students (31 men, 62 women; M age=20.5 years, SD=1.3, range=18-24). Scores on the Motivation drive, Organization, and Planning subscales of this scale were associated with having a savings account, owning bank CDs, and self-estimated knowledge about financial matters, while scores on the Impulse control and Motivational drive subscales were associated with expectations for a satisfactory retirement income. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between financial literacy and financial behaviors among various age groups. Financial literacy was measured in three ways: objective financial knowledge, subjective financial knowledge or confidence, and subjective financial management ability. The age groups were 18–24, 25–34, 35–44, 45–54, 55–64, and 65 and older. Long-term financial behavior referred to retirement saving and investing behavior, whereas short-term financial behavior referred to spending and emergency saving behavior. In the full sample, both objective and subjective financial literacy variables were positively associated with long- and short-term financial behaviors. In the age subsamples, subjective financial knowledge or confidence was more strongly related to long- and short-term financial behavior than either objective financial knowledge or subjective financial management ability in the younger age groups. Over the past decade, the US Department of Defense has become increasingly concerned with how the financial insecurity of military families compromises the overall security of the nation. Through an analysis of the policy reports focusing on predatory lending and military personnel and the initiatives designed to improve the financial capabilities of servicemembers and their families, this article situates the everyday domestic lives of indebted military personnel with respect to the racialized, gendered and militarized logics of global finance capital. Specifically, I argue that the perceived crisis in ‘financial readiness’ is endemic to the US security state and its efforts to protect and produce financialized markets at home and abroad. Inspired by the growing body of Cultural Studies and American Studies scholarship on the relationship between race, empire and the financialization of capitalism, this article unpacks the ways in which state practices of war-making fuel and are fueled by the chronic indebtedness of communities of colour and working-class communities. I open with a discussion of how the Pentagon's coercive enlistment practices burden economically insecure bodies with the work of securing the nation and, in doing so, create concentrated populations of young people who, with a regular pay cheque yet no credit history, are particularly vulnerable to the financial structures they ‘volunteered’ to defend. I then conclude with an examination of the Pentagon's family-focused financial readiness programmes that school servicemembers in how to invest for their futures and that call specifically upon military wives to do the labour of mobilizing household financial plans in the service of US imperial interests. By focusing on how military families are imagined to manage and mismanage their debt, this article offers insight into how the militarization of citizenship coincides with the financialization of family life in the United States today. The recent financial crises that started in the USA and spread all over Europe highlighted the importance of research in the field of financial culture. A variety of research projects pointed out that the general population's financial literacy is lacking basic knowledge. The ever changing economic climate, demographic changes, tendencies in the financial processing sector and the acceleration in product innovation put considerable pressure on the everyday decision making process of a household. The overview of the international and national research on the subject proves that the improving of the population's, especially the young people's financial literacy is a priority both in leading economic countries and in Hungary, too. The idea of financial culture is as complex as the variety of research into the topic proves it. In this study we report findings about financial literacy and financial planning behavior based on a financial advisory program in India. We evaluate survey responses to three standard questions previously used to measure financial literacy. We then break down the data across particular demographic and socioeconomic groups and compare responses. Finally, we examine the investment behavior, liability choice, risk tolerance and insurance usage of program participants. We find that the vast majority of respondents appear to be financially literate based on their answers to questions concerning interest rates (numeracy), inflation, and risk/diversification. However, we do find variation across demographic and socioeconomic groups. We are also able to obtain additional information about the financial tendencies of the program participants (including risk tolerance, investment preferences, investment goals, etc.) and to relate those tendencies to financial literacy. The purpose of this article is to assess and interpret the use of theory within the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning from its inception in 1990 through 2012. During that time, only 39% of research articles explicitly identified a theoretical base to guide the study's research question. Almost half (48%) of the articles incorporating a theoretical base used some form of the economic life cycle hypothesis. Most of the frameworks used were cognitively and/or individually oriented. This focus represents an attribution error since most financial socialization occurs within the family context. The Family Financial Socialization (FFS) conceptual model with testable hypotheses was proposed as one conceptual model to use in beginning to address this attribution error. FFS contributes both contextual and socialization dimensions to the explanation of financial behavior and financial outcomes such as financial well-being. The FFS model proposes that the creation of desirable financial behavior and motivation for future financial behavior change emanate from family interaction and relationships and from purposive financial socialization both in childhood and across the life cycle. Grounded in social construction theory, the current study investigates the learning context when studying financial planning in high school by analyzing the nesting of student, teacher and classroom characteristics. Key findings were that three student characteristics (initial financial knowledge, gender, senior grade level), one teacher variable (use of all curriculum assessments), and two classroom variables (proportion of junior students and students who spent more money per week) were significant predictors of students' financial knowledge gain. Significant predictors of students' behavior gain were one student characteristic (senior grade level), two student access to money variables (employment status, spending per week), and three classroom variables (mean initial financial behavior, proportion of students working part-time, proportion of rural students). Abstract: We design and administer a financial literacy test tailored to a specific defined contribution plan. We find that participants show fairly good knowledge of the basic mechanics of the plan, but are unable to differentiate among various investment options. Knowledge is particularly low among women, low income and low education employees. We also find some evidence that personal contributions lead to more knowledge. These results support plan designs that have few investment options and encourage personal contributions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
