This paper explores Romano's presentation of philosophy-as-a-way-of-life, as distinct from philosophy-as-an academic discipline, on the American scene. After briefly indicating the nature of his belief in America as philosophical, emphasis is placed on surveying the breadth of philosophical America - from Emerson through Obama, and from psychological therapy through cyber-philosophy - and on Romano's valuable blurring of our fixed ideas about what philosophy is and should be. This paper elaborates on Romano's landmark book as a paradigm extension from philosophy as a doctrine to philosophy as a personal disposition to think reflectively. Romano's pragmatism highlights philosophy as a reflective tendency in the service of the relevant and for the benefit of a better life as it is actually lived. Rather than staying within its own territory, the point is to enter what might seem like non-philosophical realms of action with the idea of cultivating them. Breaking away from the overtly academic boundaries of philosophy, Romano's book paves the way for a positive philosophy movement and for philosophy that contributes to people's actual conduct of their lives. The article discusses the musical affective experience in the U.S. Accordingly, the paper presented three reasons for discussing this topic. First, the music-affect relationship is still a major philosophical problem waiting for a plausible solution. Second, a reasonable account of this relationship is central to any philosophy of music and music education. Third, is that it offers an important opportunity to highlight recent findings from the new field of Consciousness Studies that illuminate many aspects of the music-affect problem and support the praxial concept of musical affect, which is still unknown to many in the community.

Val Plumwood argued for a reworking of our concept of wilderness in ways that would both recognize indigenous influence and expand the official "fake" history to include perspective from the Others'side. Borrowing from Plumwood's logic of colonization, I explore how the official history of wilderness in the United States of America is similar to Tasmania's "fake" history. I offer a philosophical analysis of Chief Justice John Marshall's opinion in the case of Johnson v. M'Intosh (1823) where the "wilderness" finds its first legal articulation. I argue that although multiple erasures of the Other as found in Marshall's concept of wilderness are serious problems, they do not support wilderness scepticism. Rather, in order to reshape the concept of wilderness in a new non-colonizing way, its antecedents must be clearly understood. Only then can we escape the precedents of control and find an ethical basis to repair the nature/culture split ending the war on the Other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses the consciousness studies and a philosophy of music education in the U.S. It states that investigating and evaluating music is a way in to the understanding of human life, but, emphatically, it is also an expression that has values of its own as people use it to express their understandings of what it means to be human. Ultimately, their consciousness is concerned with fundamental questions which must be answered and the questioning and answering must begin early.
