The papers in this special issue were submitted to all the conferences organized by IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society (TEMS) in a given calendar year. In 2017, IEEE TEMS initiated its flagship conference TEMSCON (held in Silicon Valley), which serves as rebranding from its original International Technology Management Conferences (ITMC). Following that, in 2018, two more conferences were initiated globally, one in Asia known as IEEE TEMS International Symposium on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ISIE), and one in Europe as IEEE TEMS International Conference on Technology and Entrepreneurship (ICTE). For this special issue, we invited authors attending any of the three aforementioned conferences in 2018 to submit full manuscripts for reviews, and the present special issue with eleven papers is the result of a careful selection following our usual rigid double-blinded peer-review process. On behalf of the Committee, I am pleased to announce the 2021 IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference (NSREC) awards. Although there were several strong candidates, one paper clearly stood out in terms of relative ranking and scoring, and a second paper received evaluations well above those of the remaining papers. Accordingly, it was decided to award a best paper and a meritorious paper for NSREC 2021. The IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) is held annually, sponsored by the Plasma Science and Applications Committee (PSAC) of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Science Society (NPSS). The 47th IEEE NPSS ICOPS was organized ONLINE from December 06 to 10, 2020, by the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The ICOPS2020 was co-organized together with the 2nd Asia-Pacific Conference on Plasma and Terahertz Science (APCOPTS) which is envisioned as the future Asian version of the ICOPS series of conferences. The ICOPS2020 was initially planned as an onsite physical conference from May 24 to 28, 2020, at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was shifted to online virtual conference. The conference’s technical program included a wide range of plasma science and technology topics, which ranged from basic and fundamental research to traditional and emerging technology applications. Since the ICOPS2020 was co-organized with APCOPTS, it also had a very strong coverage of fields related to terahertz science and applications. A total of 627 presentations from scientists and participants from over 41 countries were made at ICOPS2020 with a record total registration of 754. All presentations were recorded and were available to the registered participants for 90 days after the conference was over. The program also included a women-in-engineering talk by Jackie Y. Ying from A* Star Singapore and a young professionals networking symposium on “Plasma Entrepreneurship” with the theme “Plasma entrepreneurship—Active translation of cutting-edge research to commercially viable product.” [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objectives of this tutorial are as follows: 1) to help students and researchers develop a basic understanding of how pulsed-power systems are used to create high-energy-density (HED) matter; 2) to develop a basic understanding of a new, compact, and efficient pulsed-power technology called linear transformer drivers (LTDs); 3) to understand why LTDs are an attractive technology for driving HED physics (HEDP) experiments; 4) to contrast LTDs with the more traditional Marxgenerator/ pulse-forming-line approach to driving HEDP experiments; and 5) to briefly review the history of LTD technology as well as some of the LTD-driven HEDP research presently underway at universities and research laboratories across the globe. The 2022 ASMC, our 33rd, returned to Saratoga Springs, NY as an in-person conference after 2 years as a virtual conference. This Special Issue of the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC) includes some of the highlights of the best papers presented at the 2020 Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC), which was held on November 9–11, 2020. A-SSCC 2020 was originally planned to be held in Hiroshima, Japan. However, due to COVID-19, A-SSCC 2020 had to become a virtual conference. As one of the five conferences fully sponsored by the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society, the A-SSCC was in its 16th appearance in 2020 since its inauguration in 2005 in Taiwan. Rotating among Asian countries, the A-SSCC is quickly becoming one of the leading global forums for the presentation of advances in solid-state circuits and system-on-a-chip (SoC). The IEEE International Conference on Communications 2022 (ICC 2022) was held in Seoul, Korea, from 16–20 May 2022. Headquartered at Seoul COEX, the largest exhibition and convention venue in the Republic of Korea, ICC 2022 was in hybrid format with virtual (on-line) sessions as well as on-site sessions for in-person participants. The 4th International Conference on Radiation Effects of Electronic Devices (ICREED) was held on May 26–29, 2021, in Xi’an, China. The conference was held in-person and well attended. In addition, several virtual presentations were given by authors who were unable to attend due to the ongoing worldwide pandemic. Ten papers presented at ICREED are included in the May 2022 issue of the IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science (TNS). Many of these papers highlight active research on radiation effects on microelectronics in China. Additional papers based on work presented at ICREED may appear in other issues of the Transactions. Shi et al. (2018) proposed a highly parallel polynomial filtering eigensolver for the computation of planetary normal modes. As a challenge at the Student Cluster Competition in The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis (SC19), we reproduce the computational efficiency of the polynomial filtering eigensolver on our Intel Xeon machine. The 2021 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp 2021) took place from September 21–26 virtually, around the world; co-located with the International Symposium on Wearable Computers (ISWC). This article discusses some of the interesting research published in the Proceedings of the ACM on Interactive, Mobile, Wearable, and Ubiquitous Technologies, as well as those accepted at ISWC this year—presented virtually with Live Q&A over Whova, Zoom, and Gather.Town. Furthermore, it covers some of the interesting plenary events, such as the Keynotes by Cynthia Breazeal (MIT Media Labs) and John LePore (Perception), as well as the panel discussion on the 30th anniversary of Mark Weiser's paper on the Vision of a Computer for the 21st Century. The 58th IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference (NSREC) was held July 16–23, 2021. For the second consecutive year, the conference was conducted virtually, featuring live online interactions between conference attendees and recorded content from presenters. The live portions of the conference were held from July 19 to July 23, after which content was made available for attendees on-demand. Despite these circumstances, the conference was a great success. The 2021 NSREC was attended by 647 engineers, scientists, managers, students, and exhibitors. International participation was also quite strong, with 142 non-U.S. attendees from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. We are very pleased to introduce this Special Section covering ASMC 2020 and ASMC 2021. These two conferences were held virtually, like most other technical conferences over the last two years; fortunately, the technical community has now reverted to in-person conferences, allowing attendees more personal interaction and the ability to focus on the conference. After two years of virtual conferences, the annual flagship conference of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), has returned in person. When I attended ICRA in Philadelphia in May, I felt excitement in the air when people greeted each other and friends shook hands and hugged each other. It was not easy for professors, students, industry practitioners, and other attendees traveling from all around the world to be under one roof, while the COVID-19 pandemic has not fully settled into its endemic stage. With more than 4,700 in-person participants, nearly half of whom were students, this year’s conference was the largest and youngest one ever in ICRA history. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
