We present a comprehensive investigation of optical properties in MoSe$_2$/CrSBr heterostructures, unveiling the presence of localized excitons represented by a new emission feature, X$^*$. We demonstrate through temperature- and power-dependent photoluminescence spectroscopy that X$^*$ originates from excitons confined by intrinsic defects within the CrSBr layer. The valley polarization of X$^*$ and trion peaks displays opposite polarity under a magnetic field, which closely correlates with the magnetic order of CrSBr. This is attributed to spin-dependent charge transfer mechanisms across the heterointerface, supported by density functional theory calculations revealing a type-II band alignment and spin-polarized band structures. Furthermore, the strong in-plane anisotropy of CrSBr induces unique polarization-dependent responses in MoSe$_2$ emissions. Our study highlights the crucial role of defects in shaping excitonic properties. Histopathology image analysis plays a crucial role in cancer diagnosis. However, training a clinically applicable segmentation algorithm requires pathologists to engage in labour-intensive labelling. In contrast, weakly supervised learning methods, which only require coarse-grained labels at the image level, can significantly reduce the labeling efforts. Unfortunately, while these methods perform reasonably well in slide-level prediction, their ability to locate cancerous regions, which is essential for many clinical applications, remains unsatisfactory. Previously, we proposed CAMEL, which achieves comparable results to those of fully supervised baselines in pixel-level segmentation. However, CAMEL requires 1,280x1,280 image-level binary annotations for positive WSIs. Here, we present CAMEL2, by introducing a threshold of the cancerous ratio for positive bags, it allows us to better utilize the information, consequently enabling us to scale up the image-level setting from 1,280x1,280 to 5,120x5,120 while maintaining the accuracy. Our results with various datasets, demonstrate that CAMEL2, with the help of 5,120x5,120 image-level binary annotations, which are easy to annotate, achieves comparable performance to that of a fully supervised baseline in both instance- and slide-level classifications., Comment: 41 pages, 13 figures, published in Advanced Intelligent Systems

Twisting is a novel technique for creating strongly correlated effects in two-dimensional bilayered materials, and can tunably generate nontrivial topological properties, magnetism, and superconductivity. Magnetism is particularly significant as it can both compete with superconductivity and lead to the emergence of nontrivial topological states. However, the origin of magnetism in twisted structures remains a subject of controversy. A material with symmetry breaking inside can transmit the symmetry breaking to its vicinity by vacuum electromagnetic fluctuations. The vacuum in proximate to a symmetry-broken material is referred as its quantum atmosphere. Here, we show that a parity-symmetry-broken quantum atmosphere can induce a chirality-dependent shift of the ground-state energy of a chiral molecule, resulting in a chemical reaction process that favors producing one chirality over the other. Moire superlattices are twisted bilayer materials, in which the tunable interlayer quantum confinement offers access to new physics and novel device functionalities. Previously, moire superlattices were built exclusively using materials with weak van der Waals interactions and synthesizing moire superlattices with strong interlayer chemical bonding was considered to be impractical. Here using lead sulfide (PbS) as an example, we report a strategy for synthesizing of moire superlattices coupled by strong chemical bonding. We use water-soluble ligands as a removable template to obtain free-standing ultra-thin PbS nanosheets and assemble them into direct-contact bilayers with various twist angles. Atomic-resolution imaging shows the moire periodic structural reconstruction at superlattice interface, due to the strong metavalent coupling. Electron energy loss spectroscopy and theoretical calculations collectively reveal the twist angle26 dependent electronic structure, especially the emergent separation of flat bands at small twist angles. The localized states of flat bands are similar to well-arranged quantum dots, promising an application in devices. This study opens a new door to the exploration of deep energy modulations within moire superlattices alternative to van der Waals twistronics.

Atomic-level defects in van der Waals (vdW) materials are essential building blocks for quantum technologies and quantum sensing applications. The layered magnetic semiconductor CrSBr is an outstanding candidate for exploring optically active defects owing to a direct gap in addition to a rich magnetic phase diagram including a recently hypothesized defect-induced magnetic order at low temperature. Here, we show optically active defects in CrSBr that are probes of the local magnetic environment. We observe spectrally narrow (1 meV) defect emission in CrSBr that is correlated with both the bulk magnetic order and an additional low temperature defect-induced magnetic order. We elucidate the origin of this magnetic order in the context of local and non-local exchange coupling effects. Our work establishes vdW magnets like CrSBr as an exceptional platform to optically study defects that are correlated with the magnetic lattice. Correlated quantum phenomena in one-dimensional (1D) systems that exhibit competing electronic and magnetic order are of strong interest for studying fundamental interactions and excitations, such as Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids and topological orders and defects with properties completely different from the quasiparticles expected in their higher-dimensional counterparts. However, clean 1D electronic systems are difficult to realize experimentally, particularly magnetically ordered systems. Here, we show that the van der Waals layered magnetic semiconductor CrSBr behaves like a quasi-1D material embedded in a magnetically ordered environment. The strong 1D electronic character originates from the Cr-S chains and the combination of weak interlayer hybridization and anisotropy in effective mass and dielectric screening with an effective electron mass ratio of $m^e_X/m^e_Y \sim 50$. This extreme anisotropy experimentally manifests in strong electron-phonon and exciton-phonon interactions, a Peierls-like structural instability and a Fano resonance from a van Hove singularity of similar strength of metallic carbon nanotubes. Moreover, due to the reduced dimensionality and interlayer coupling, CrSBr hosts spectrally narrow (1 meV) excitons of high binding energy and oscillator strength that inherit the 1D character. Overall, CrSBr is best understood as a stack of weakly hybridized monolayers and appears to be an experimentally attractive candidate for the study of exotic exciton and 1D correlated many-body physics in the presence of magnetic order., Comment: main: 16 pages, 5 figures; SI: 15 pages, 9 figures

Most of the recent state-of-the-art results for speaker verification are achieved by X-vector and its subsequent variants. In this paper, we propose a new network architecture which aggregates the channel and context interdependence features from multi aspect based on Time Delay Neural Network (TDNN). Firstly, we use the SE-Res2Blocks as in ECAPA-TDNN to explicitly model the channel interdependence to realize adaptive calibration of channel features, and process local context features in a multi-scale way at a more granular level compared with conventional TDNN-based methods. Secondly, we explore to use the encoder structure of Transformer to model the global context interdependence features at an utterance level which can capture better long term temporal characteristics. Before the pooling layer, we aggregate the outputs of SE-Res2Blocks and Transformer encoder to leverage the complementary channel and context interdependence features learned by themself respectively. Finally, instead of performing a single attentive statistics pooling, we also find it beneficial to extend the pooling method in a multi-head way which can discriminate features from multiple aspect. Twisted bilayers of van der Waals materials have recently attracted great attention due to their tunable strongly correlated phenomena. Here, we investigate the chirality-specific physics in 3D moir\'e superlattices induced by Eshelby twist. Our direct DFT calculations reveal helical rotation leads to optical circular dichroism, and chirality-specific nonlinear Hall effect, even though there is no magnetization or magnetic field. Both these phenomena can be reversed by changing the structural chirality. This provides a way to constructing chirality-specific materials.

For a long time, two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal MoS2 was proposed as a promising material for valleytronic system. However, the limited size of growth and low carrier motilities in MoS2 restrict its further application. Very recently, a new kind of hexagonal 2D MXene, MoSi2N4, was successfully synthesized with large size, excellent ambient stability, and considerable hole mobility. In this paper, based on the first-principles calculations, we predict that the valley-contrast properties can be realized in monolayer MoSi2N4 and its derivative MoSi2As4. Beyond the traditional two-level valleys, the valleys in monolayer MoSi2As4 are multiple-folded, implying a new valley dimension. Such multiple-folded valleys can be described by a three-band low-power Hamiltonian. This study presents the theoretical advance and the potential applications of monolayer MoSi2N4 and MoSi2As4 in valleytronic devices, especially multiple information processing.

Recently, Chi Xu et al. predicted the phase-filling singularities (PFS) in the optical dielectric function (ODF) of the highly doped $n$-type Ge and confirmed in experiment the PFS associated $E_{1}+\Delta_{1}$ transition by advanced \textit{in situ} doping technology [Phys. Rev. Lett. 118, 267402 (2017)], but the strong overlap between $E_{1}$ and $E_{1}+\Delta_{1}$ optical transitions made the PFS associated $E_{1}$ transition that occurs at the high doping concentration unobservable in their measurement. In this work, we investigate the PFS of the highly doped n-type Ge in the presence of the uniaxial and biaxial tensile strain along [100], [110] and [111] crystal orientation. Compared with the relaxed bulk Ge, the tensile strain along [100] increases the energy separation between the $E_{1}$ and $E_{1}+\Delta_{1}$ transition, making it possible to reveal the PFS associated $E_{1}$ transition in optical measurement. Besides, the application of tensile strain along [110] and [111] offers the possibility of lowering the required doping concentration for the PFS to be observed, resulting in new additional features associated with $E_{1}+\Delta_{1}$ transition at inequivalent $L$-valleys. These theoretical predications with more distinguishable optical transition features in the presence of the uniaxial and biaxial tensile strain can be more conveniently observed in experiment, providing new insights into the excited states in heavily doped semiconductors., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

Histopathology image analysis plays a critical role in cancer diagnosis and treatment. To automatically segment the cancerous regions, fully supervised segmentation algorithms require labor-intensive and time-consuming labeling at the pixel level. In this research, we propose CAMEL, a weakly supervised learning framework for histopathology image segmentation using only image-level labels. Using multiple instance learning (MIL)-based label enrichment, CAMEL splits the image into latticed instances and automatically generates instance-level labels. After label enrichment, the instance-level labels are further assigned to the corresponding pixels, producing the approximate pixel-level labels and making fully supervised training of segmentation models possible. CAMEL achieves comparable performance with the fully supervised approaches in both instance-level classification and pixel-level segmentation on CAMELYON16 and a colorectal adenoma dataset. We extend the previous 30-band $k$$\cdot$$p$ model effectively employed for relaxed Ge$_{1-x}$Sn$_{x}$ alloy to the case of strained Ge$_{1-x}$Sn$_{x}$ alloy. The strain-relevant parameters for the 30-band $k$$\cdot$$p$ model are obtained by using linear interpolation between the values of single crystal of Ge and Sn that are from literatures and optimizations. We specially investigate the dependence of band-gap at $L$-valley and $\Gamma$-valley with different Sn composition under uniaxial and biaxial strain along [100], [110] and [111] directions. The good agreement between our theoretical predictions and experimental data validates the effectiveness of our model. Our 30-band $k$$\cdot$$p$ model and relevant input parameters successfully applied to relaxed and strained Ge$_{1-x}$Sn$_{x}$ alloy offers a powerful tool for the optimization of sophisticated devices made from such alloy., Comment: 8-pages, 6 figures

In terms of quantum probability statistics the Bell inequality (BI) and its violation are extended to spin-$s$ entangled Schr\"{o}dinger cat-state (called the Bell cat-state) with both parallel and antiparallel spin-polarizations. The BI is never ever violated for the measuring outcome probabilities evaluated over entire two-spin Hilbert space except the spin-$1/2$ entangled states. A universal Bell-type inequality (UBI) denoted by $p_{s}^{lc}\leq0$ is formulated with the local realistic model under the condition that the measuring outcomes are restricted in the subspace of spin coherent states. A spin parity effect is observed that the UBI can be violated only by the Bell cat-states of half-integer but not the integer spins. The violation of UBI is seen to be a direct result of non-trivial Berry phase between the spin coherent states of south- and north-pole gauges for half-integer spin, while the geometric phase is trivial for the integer spins. A maximum violation bound of UBI is found as $p_{s}^{\max}$=1, which is valid for arbitrary half-integer spin-$s$ states., Comment: 11 pages

For a transparent projection screen based on metallic nanoparticle's localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), in the ideal case the metallic nanoparticles dispersed in a transparent matrix only selectively scatter red, green and blue light and transmit the visible light of other colours. However, metal's optical loss and size effect at nanoscale degenerate the desired performance by broadening the resonance peak width and increasing the absorption ratio. In this work, it is shown that the problem can be solved by introducing gain material. Numerical simulations are performed on nanostructures based on silver (Ag), gold (Au) or aluminium (Al) with or without gain material, to examine the effect of gain material and to search for suitable structures for sharp selective scattering of red, green and blue light. And it is found that introducing gain material greatly improves performance of the structures based on Ag or Au except the structures based on Al. The most suitable structures for sharp selective scattering of red, green and blue light are respectively found to be the core-shell structures of silica@Au, silica@Ag and Ag@silica, all with gain material.
