This article focuses on the preservation of British library newspapers that have been published during the 19th century. The British Library Newspapers Web site was created in partnership with Gale International, a part of Cengage Learning, with funding provided by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). Free access will be provided to the database within the BL building and to all the Further and Higher Education communities in Great Britain. Fee-based services will be launched for the general public in 2008. The article reports on the plan of Springer to launch its eBook program at the American Library Association conference to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana from June 21 to 24, 2006. The redesigned SpringerLink will give subscribers access to about 10,000 Springer eBooks. eBooks and eBook Series titles are available as searchable PDF documents, while eReference Works are available through HTML. Libraries can purchase a complete collection or one of the 12 topic categories. The program will also link to an OPAC system.

This article reports that netLibrary has teamed with Recorded Books LLC to create a new program for delivering audio books to libraries through the World Wide Web. Key elements of the program include an innovative pricing structure, unlimited access, the ability for patrons to download to a range of portable devices, and a technology solution that supports download via broadband or dial-up capabilities. Library users will be able to search for, preview, check out, and listen to audio books via the Internet and the netLibrary platform. They can focus their search on audio titles only or take advantage of search functionality that integrates audio titles with all electronic content their library may have in its netLibrary collection. Web-based collections of Recorded Books titles will be available for purchase through either Recorded Books or netLibrary and will be delivered via the netLibrary interface. Library patrons will be able to search for audio books just as they would for any type of electronic content in their library's netLibrary collection. In addition, libraries can view demonstrations of the program upon request, which will be formally lanced in December 2004.

EBSCO Publishing has announced that, through EBSCO SmartLinks, it has made available to EBSCOhost database subscribers more than 100 million records with access to full text.EBSCO SmartLinks allows users to gain seamless access from a citation in an EBSCOhost proprietary or secondary database result list to the corresponding full text located in a variety of electronic resources. In addition to linking to the full text available within EBSCOhost databases, users may also link to their library's collection of electronic journals available through EBSCOhost Electronic Journals service and publishers that contribute to CrossRef.

knovel Corp., a Web-based reference publisher that delivers scientific and technical books and databases to engineers, scientists, and students, has released six new chemistry references from major publishers.
