The use of antenna passive repeaters to improve field coverage and indoor recovery of microwave cellular signals is studied. The use of an on-wall passive repeater improves indoor signal coverage, while signal level for fixed-terminal systems can be increased by using more directive repeater antennas or antenna arrays.

A single-lane, dual-channel, 5-Gb/s serial link redriver with no clock data recovery (CDR) or phase-locked loop (PLL) has been developed by using a standard 0.13-\mum CMOS technology. New features and techniques have been developed in both the architecture and the analog modules to meet the jitter and protocol requirements for a redriver for multi-Gb/s operation, which is made difficult by the lack of CDR and a PLL. These techniques include: 1) adaptive receiver equalization; 2) enhanced transmitter output swing and programmable de-emphasis/swing settings; 3) a robust state flow control combined with various signal detectors to provide automatic state and mode switching without affecting operations of upstream and downstream ports. This article demonstrates the cooperative diversity improvement achieved using a 120- active scatterer built in 130-nm CMOS technology. The low-power all-analog device acts as a repeater, or relay, for phase sweep amplify-and-forward cooperative transmission. The device relies on microwave reflection to amplify, dynamically phase modulate, and reradiate the incident signal. This reduces the duration of the fades experienced in the indoor radio channel and improves error correction code performance. Radio channel propagation measurements collected using the relay prototype clearly show the effect of the phase modulation on fading and system level simulations conducted using the propagation data show a fivefold increase in coverage area. This paper purposes a bus architecture called skewed repeater bus (SRB) for reducing on-chip interconnect energy in microprocessors. By introducing a dynamic relative delay between neighboring bus lines, SRB reduces both average and worst-case coupling capacitance between those lines. SRB is compared to previously published techniques like delayed data bus (DDB) and delayed clock bus (DCB). Simulation results in 65-nm process show that bus energy reduction of 18% is achieved when SRB is applied to a real microprocessor example, versus 11% and 7% only for DDB and DCB, respectively.
