The author discusses a study of the efficacy and safety of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) known as Molly or Ecstasy as potential therapeutics for severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) conducted by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). MDMA was developed in a research on blood-clotting agents in 1912, used in psychotherapy in the 1970s, and emerged as a recreational drug in the 1980s. It describes the preparation of participants for the study.
