Archives serve as repositories for items of enduring value. Archivists use a process called appraisal to evaluate the value of these items. While various theories and methods have been developed to guide the appraisal and many issues have been identified, little is known about how archivists conduct appraisals or what efforts they undertake to mitigate these issues. As such, this exploratory and qualitative study aims to examine the appraisal practices of archivists in university special collections, the role of the collection policy, and how these policies deal with problematic aspects of appraisal. This study found that university special archivists view appraisal as a complex but systematic process and implement the collection policy's principles and methodologies into their appraisal practices. The purpose of this research is to examine knowledge management (KM) and changes in the real estate (RE) valuation (V) profession in the case of Turkey, which is among the countries that are not fully transparent in RE investments, and to compare them with good practise examples. The increase in RE prices around the world, which started with the conditions of the COVID-19 period, while financial institution REV process and also creates dissatisfaction for buyers and sellers. While the world is experiencing an inflationary process, the rapid change in RE values has made information management even more important in V in countries where there is no transparency in RE transactions. In this study, market players, KM in V accessible databases in V, software and web portals for valuers and companies, V workflows, number of RE sales with known transaction price information by year, number of RE sales with unknown transaction price information by year, value objection data by year, KM systems, public data sharing platforms, and legislation are looked at in the context of how they are used in the sample country. Literature research has been conducted in the field of information management since 2001 in the RE sector in the sample country and compared with world examples. In REV, the KM deficiencies needed to make more accurate value estimations for the benefit of credit institutions, collateral financing institutions, buyers, sellers, housing loan institutions, REV companies, and valuers have been researched. Collection development policies for university special collections and archives guide archival appraisal, which is the process by which archivists determine the value of an item. Much has been written about appraisal theory, but little is known about archivists' actual appraisal practice and how collection policy guides such practice. The object of this paper is to explore the appraisal practices of archivists by examining collection development policies. As a preliminary examination, this study analyzed the collection development policies of seven Texas tier‐one institutions. The most common component of the policies was a statement on the types of items collected or excluded. Traditionally, research data has been managed independently by individual researchers and only shared at the discretion of the researcher upon request. Appraisal and selection of research data has become a major issue in recent years as the number of data types and volume of data have grown greatly, but little empirical study has been done regarding how academic libraries document their research data appraisal practices. This study surveyed academic libraries' research data collection policies, which govern the identification, appraisal, and selection of research data. The Cognitive-Emotional Theory of Esteem Support Messages (CETESM) predicts that variations in both message content and message style will affect the outcomes of esteem support interactions. However, little research has focused on message style. The current experiment addresses this lacuna in the research by manipulating message style in a laboratory study examining esteem support interactions. Confederates were trained to provide esteem support to naïve participants in five different styles: low inductive, high inductive, low assertive, high assertive, and control. After the interactions, we assessed participants' state self-esteem, attributions and appraisals about the esteem-threatening event, and perceptions of conversational relevance to the esteem-threatening situation. Results indicated that the extent to which both inductive styles were used was associated with positive outcomes, including participant reports of state self-esteem, appraisals, and conversational relevance, whereas the extent to which the assertive styles were used was not associated with any dependent variables of interest. Public policies are implemented through larger and smaller public programs and projects that have to comply with very strict governance conditions. Evaluating the net benefits generated by public programs or projects allows for the identification of the cost-effective ones in order to select them. For this purpose, a lot of indicators, mainly the Net Present Value (NPV), both in financial and socio-economic terms, as well as the recovery period, are being constructed, the probabilistic modeling of which provides the information needed to determine the public spending performance, public expendityres financing the national economy development. Development and implementation of the public programs are faced with risks, their prediction being a complex approach. For the identification of risks, a wide range of values of indicators involved in risky actions is assigned so that probability appraisal of the occurrence of those risks can be made, including their impact upon environment and / or community. The mix of the probability of producing the risk and its impact leads to the identification of most of its manifestations, so that we can retain to evaluate the program only the significant risks. The paper also presents the most important criteria for the selection of the development programs / projects, focusing on addressing economic and social benefits, expressed in monetary terms. The cost-benefit analysis that must accompany any public project proposal will identify both its utility for the intended community and externalities, positive and / or negative, that will be a factor of impact upon the NPV. Coping theory has been used to explain and predict the behaviors of users facing discrepant information technology (IT) events, i.e., unexpected, negative events that occur due to problems and difficulties when using such technology. However, researchers have examined coping by using a vast array of conceptualizations, discrepant IT events, coping strategies, and behaviors, which have led to considerable heterogeneity in the existing literature. Therefore, the present paper demonstrates the results of a comprehensive literature review, identifying and analyzing 27 relevant investigations. The present literature review contributes to the literature by identifying six theoretical implications: (1) coping literature can subdivided into research streams on technostress, IT adoption and usage, and IT security, (2) the literature disagrees about the antecedents of coping strategies, (3) coping strategies are heterogeneous, (4) coping strategies show interdependences, (5) coping strategies show paradoxical effects, and (6) development of a framework of coping with discrepant IT events. Assessment is the core value of taxation and cannot be divorced from tax. It is through tax assessment that the whole process of measurement of a taxable person's tax obligation is determined. The objective of this paper is to evaluate assessment procedure in Nigeria in line with 2011 Regulations. The methodology employed is analytical with the use of both primary and secondary sources of law. Assessment plays a vital role in taxation as it is the key factor to tax collection. Under the Nigerian law, it is based on the information contained in the taxpayer's returns. In the year 2011, the Tax Administration {Self Assessment} Regulations was enacted to modify processes and procedures for self-assessment. The rationale behind this is to make compliance easier for taxpayers and make tax payments convenient for ease of administration. It has been found that before the enactment of these Regulations, assessment practice in Nigeria varies from one type of tax to another. In our appraisal of the English website of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we took into account the manner in which Israeli government ministries conduct their records management. However, due to the unique characteristics of internet websites, special parameters are needed, such as harvesting and user behavior. We conducted a functional analysis of user behavior on the MASHAV subsite and the "Foreign Policy" division of the ministry's website, using the "About Israel" division as a control unit for comparison. Since MASHAV provides information and services to users, it is possible to use the retention periods set in the Archives Law 5715-1955 for some of its parts. "Foreign Policy" is an informative division whose documents are replaced according to changing event. In all three, we examined and analyzed the number of users and the length of time spent on the site during each access. The comparison was done for February and October 2014, and for the total year. The results show that in the "Foreign Policy" and "About Israel" divisions the number of users was greater than in MASHAV and fluctuated depending on the circumstances and events, while users remained in the MASHAV subsite for longer periods of time. In this article, we examine the similarities between the concept of appraisal, a process that takes place within the archives, and the concept of relevance judgement, a process fundamental to information retrieval systems. More specifically, we revisit appraisal/selection criteria proposed as a result of archival and digital curation communities, and, compare them to relevance criteria as discussed within information retrieval's literature based discovery. We illustrate how closely these criteria relate to each other and discuss how understanding the relationships between the these disciplines could form a basis for proposing automated appraisal and selection for archival processes and enabling complex queries within information retrieval. Although sad films elicit states of sadness and cause onlookers to mourn beloved characters these media offers also lead to enjoyment. This paradoxical situation challenges both theoretical approaches and empirical studies in entertainment research. Based on an appraisal-theoretical framework, the present study examines to role of multiple appraisals of recipients' sadness. It is argued that these so-called meta-appraisals are able to transform one's sadness into a positive meta-emotion (i.e. enjoyment). This process is called valence transformation. Results of an experimental study (N =149) show that in case of a sad end, participants experienced higher levels of sadness than when the film has a happy end. Furthermore, given a sad end, meta-appraisal processes are activated that mediate the relationship between sadness and enjoyment. If the film, however, has a happy end there are no indirect effects. The current trend in marketing is to create engaging, extraordinary, and lasting customer experiences. Such experience goes beyond mere customer satisfaction and plays a fundamental role in determining the customers' preferences and purchase decisions. It is not sufficient to achieve customer satisfaction, but to consider its component experiences, intangible elements linked to the emotional value perceived by customers and the emotional and irrational side of customer behavior. The authors hold the view that building an integrated emotional framework to delineate consumers experience will further predict customer post-consumption behavior besides the traditional satisfaction rating. This review starts from literature concerning to customer satisfaction, afterwards from a psychological perspective states reasons why we need to study consumer emotions, and then briefly summarizes the existing empirical researches regarding how emotions affect consumer behavior. Sentiment Analysis has been an interesting task of web content mining these years due to rapid growth of user generating content. As the annotated data are expensive to get, the unsupervised approaches are preferred. Usually, a lexicon is required when apply the unsupervised approaches. In the paper, based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), we propose a model to construct a lexicon for sentiment analysis task, which is domain independent. Through experiments, we compare our generated lexicon with some widely used lexicons and with trivial lexicon construction algorithm. The experiments show our approach is competitive and flexible. In Web services, the identical node may have different trust values in the different services domain because of the network complexity and the node's asymmetry. The node's individual difference is studied, and then one Web services trust model is proposed based on the individual experience by establishing quantitative and appraisal system. The Web services are divided into the different groups, and therefore the problem is solved that one node may have different reputation values in different services domain. Most employees in small and medium enterprise (SME) engineering firms now have access to their own personal workstations which have become part of their daily functions. This has led to an increased need for information security management to safeguard against loss/alteration or theft of the firm's important information. SMEs tend to be concerned with vulnerabilities from external threats, although industry research suggests that a substantial proportion of security incidents originate from insiders within the firm. Hence, physical preventative measures such as antivirus software and firewalls are proving to solve only part of the problem as the employees controlling them do not have adequate information security knowledge. This tends to expose the firm to costly mistakes that can be made by naïve/uninformed employees. This paper presents an information security awareness process that seeks to cultivate positive security behaviours using the behavioural intentions models i.e. the Theory of Reasoned Action and the Protection Motivation Theory. We report an approach to achieve effective crowd control strategies through adaptively evolving an agent-based model of Crowd Simulation for Military Operations (COSMOS). COSMOS is a complex system simulation platform developed to address challenges posed by the Military Operations in Urban Terrains (MOUT). Modeling and simulating soldiers' tactical behaviors in MOUT scenarios is challenging due to the complex and emerging behaviors of crowds and large parameter space of the models. Consequently, it is difficult to search for effective crowd control strategies through tuning the model parameters manually. We employ an adaptive evolutionary computation approach, using the Complex Adaptive Systems Evolver (CASE), to address this challenge. Specifically, we conduct experiments using a “building-protection” scenario, where the operation plans of soldier agents are adaptively evolved to best control a crowd. Understanding learner's emotions within virtual worlds enables more effective learning solutions to be developed. Spatial presence as a 'feeling of being there' has a significant impact upon this effectiveness within immersive learning environments. This paper argues that spatial presence is a perceptual emotion and that such a view can be related to theories of affective emotion as a perception. It argues that existing models of spatial presence as cognitive feeling can be modified and related to perceptual theories of emotion such as Prinz's embodied appraisal theory and Deonna's perspectival view of emotion as perception. This supports the approach that spacial presence is better understood as an affective emotion. Applying embodied appraisal theory to the activation of motor areas and aspects of embodied cognition underlying Schubert's model highlights the perceptual nature of this emotion. Applying situated affordances and action potentials, as expressed in Deonna's model of emotion, as perception to frames of reference within a virtual world supports arguments for spatial presence as a perceptual emotion similar to Schubert's use of Wirth et al's model of spatial presence. Nowadays it is recognized that physical activity, besides other lifestyles, has indisputable beneficial affects on cardiovascular diseases prevention and treatment. Additionally the social support is important and has a valuable impact on the outcomes in cardiovascular disease patients. To provide the patients the social support needed and, to support and motivate them in their daily physical activity, we are working on building a mobile virtual community for physical activity support connected to a triaxial accelerometer, where the physical activity will be monitored and the main objective will be to motivate and support the patients to be adequately physically active. Using language involves more than exchanging information through a combination of words. Emotional elements in language can strongly influence the meaning of conversational actions which goes beyond the simple exchange of information. To evaluate current emotion models, we study how they deal with situations that arise in conversations (e.g. the intentions of a speaker). We will give insights on how computational models of dialogue can take features of emotions models into account. We present a prototype of dialogue system that allows one to practice holding bad news conversations. We discuss the ideas behind the system, the architecture, parts of the implementation and a study that has been conducted to gain more insight into the features of bad news conversations and the requirements they place on emotion models. This paper presents an extended model of individuals' reactions to IT implementation initiatives. The aim is to explore the relationship between an employee's cognitive appraisal of an IT initiative, their emotional response and the processes they undergo when faced with difficulties in accepting IT adoption and change in an organizational setting. The paper presents the results of an interpretive case study based in Iran. According to the findings of the study, employees' evaluations of a new IT initiative can become an obstacle to change. The paper's first contribution is to provide a deeper understanding of the effects of an IT implementation on individuals' emotions and cognition. Intelligent agents or non-player characters (NPCs) in human interaction scenarios are required to react in ways that are consistent to the training scenario. In many cases these NPCs are controlled by a simple state machine and scripts. The use of these techniques leads to responses that are of poor quality and machine driven. In our work we aim to design a model for incorporating emotional enhancements (concentrating on negative primary emotions such as anger and sadness and also looking at secondary emotions such as anxiety and fear) into intelligent agents. The model will allow NCPs in virtual training applications to simulate human behaviour in crisis management. In this paper, we review current research on models of emotions for intelligent agents in crisis simulations. Target market of PCR1 2-way radio is people with critical mission. Thus, quality of radio has to be ensured. Loader cart system is being used actively as an automated testing tool in PCR during system test phase. It is able to stress the radio to its limit to ensure its stability, robustness, and reliability. All major issues reported have to be resolved before end products are shipping to customers. Loader Cart System is used to reproduce complicated system issue repeatedly that was triggered by the same system because it might be time consuming for human to reproduce the same2 issue manually. In order to do that, the loader cart system has to be configured before it can operate. However, there is a lot of appraisal works and time needed in configuring the same testing environment of Loader Cart System for issue reproduction. This process takes the longest time from developers and it is tedious to be carried out manually. From experience, the environment setup on 8 radios (a set of loader cart system) took ∼4 hours. This amount of time is just for one cycle and the time taken for debugs, implementation, and firmware compilation has yet been considered. Hence, this paper aims to reduce “non-value-added” appraisal works of developers and improve loader cart automation test cycle time. The proposed solution is automating this “non-value-added” appraisal works by using free automation tool such as AutoIT that required no expensive license. A multi-perspective describing method for emotional speech is proposed. Three perspectives - cognitive, psychological, physiological ones and seven phonetic evaluation features are involved, with which it is expected to describe speech emotion more completely and to bridge the gap between emotions and acoustic signals. Collaboration between non-profit organizations and governmental sectors of all levels in public crisis will exert a great influence on the performance of public crisis management. Through referring to foreign appraisal pattern for collaborative performance between organizations and sampling Oxfam Hong Kong for their performance in 5.12 earthquakes, this paper has conducted a genuine survey of collaboration between non-profit organizations and governmental sectors in public crisis management. And the survey demonstrates that while in 5.12 earthquakes there's been a favorable cooperation between Oxfam Hong Kong and governmental sectors of all levels concerning communication, commitment, equality, capability, trust and respect, which to some degree serves as a benchmark for collaboration performance between non-profit organizations and government in public crisis management. Students' self-regulation ability is an important component for a successful emotionally intelligent tutoring system. Emotion-focused and problem-focused strategies have been recognized as the commonly used strategies by individuals for self-regulation. However, very little work has been done to model self-regulation strategies in affective tutoring system. Thus, this paper presents a qualitative study on students' self-regulation strategies in dealing with potential stressful condition during their learning episodes so that a better framework of suitable adaptive action and reaction by emotionally intelligent tutoring system can be modelled. To get better insight, comparison between genders is also conducted. Results from this study indicate that students used both emotion-focused and problem-focused strategies in dealing with stressful learning episodes. Human-robot interaction (HRI) is becoming more complex and difficult due to the growing number of capabilities demonstrated by socially interactive robots. From this perspective, it is necessary for us to have simple and general methods that enable robots to interact with human beings at an emotional level. Therefore, this paper suggests a method that can efficiently use the PAD emotion space to generate artificial emotions based on a categorization of emotions using cluster analysis. After clustering, emotional appraisals can be extracted according to PAD input vectors using results of the categorization then we can generate blended emotions and calculate an intensity of each emotion. We evaluate the categorization results by using the Davies-Bouldin index and the patterns of emotions that are generated through categorization results. Furthermore, the generated emotions are expressed by a physical mascot-type head robot using our emotion expression model. Smart grids are expected to be one of the solutions to the new challenges of the European electric systems. However, no global study on costs and benefits of smart grids has been conducted up to now, both at European and at national scales. The purpose of this study was to explore the influences of culture on overall hurt feelings, subsequent appraisals, attributions, responses, and relational strain, following the reception of a hurtful message. Participants responded to a survey designed to assess appraisals, attributions, and consequences of hurtful communication, and cultural orientation through a self-construal measure. The findings indicated that higher degrees of interdependence were associated with greater overall feelings of hurt from a hurtful episode. In response to the hurtful message, those high in independence projected positive emotions, while people high in interdependence felt more negative affect. As a result, higher independence was related to greater potential for using assertive responses to the perpetrator of the message. Finally, those high in interdependence perceived more substantial relational strain on the overall relationship. The results, taken as a whole, provide support for the claim that the way in which people experience hurtful messages is influenced in part by their culture. Sentiment analysis is an important type of text analysis carried out in communication and socio-political studies of media coverage of political events and its impact on society. We present a framework for appraisal and sentiment analysis of political news articles, based on Martin and White's framework for appraisal analysis. The framework focuses on common types of sentiment, its expression, and its subject and object. We apply the framework to sample news articles on two political figures, US President, George W. Bush, and Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to identify the usefulness and potential problems in using the framework. The aim of this study is to examine if the reported positive aspects of caregiving (PAC) among those caregivers who utilized formal supports were higher than those who did not. Using data from the Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Care Health (REACH) study (N=1229), the analysis found that those caregivers who utilized two or more formal supports reported significantly higher PAC scores than those who used one or no formal supports. Additional variables that contributed to higher PAC scores were race and level of religiosity, with African Americans and Latino/Hispanics reporting higher PAC scores than white caregivers, and those caregivers with higher reported levels of religiosity also reporting significantly higher PAC scores. The fast-changing economic conditions such as lower profit margin, higher demands of quality, a variety of the products, and lead time reduction have created a dynamic business environment. Manufacturers must provide high-quality products with the lowest price to survive in the current competitive market. In this regard, the acceptance of advance techniques and methodologies have been increased in recent past. One of these methodologies is the Cost of Quality (COQ) that enables the organizations to improve overall performance through identification of potential areas for improvements. Although the concept of COQ is being accepted by many organizations yet large numbers of organizations are still lacking in the true implementation of COQ and some of them are neglecting this tool all together like textile and clothing sector. In order to fulfill this gap, the present study has been conducted to measure the COQ of a garment manufacturing line. In this regard, a comprehensive literature review was conducted and different models of COQ were studied. The PAF model is chosen on the bases of the literature for this study. The PAF model is the most recognized approach for the calculation of the quality costs. By focusing on key processes within an organization this model splits the cost into three categories: prevention, appraisal, and failure. Firstly, a t-shirt manufacturing line is studied with respect to the elements of PAF model. Then a mathematical model is proposed to calculate the each quality cost that includes prevention cost, appraisal cost, and failure cost. The proposed model was implemented on the same manufacturing line by collecting the values of input variables that further used to calculate the quality costs of each category. After conducting this baseline study, it was observed that the appraisal cost is high as compared to the failure and prevention costs currently. It was suggested that the industry can reduce the cost of quality by the successful planning of the preventive activates that will ultimately reduce failure cost automatically along with appraisal cost associated with this particular line. The proposed model is developed based on the sewing line of a simple t-shirt however further work can also be done by focusing on the different articles and a complete supply chain of garment manufacturing. We tested the complete and current conceptualization of Lazarus¡¦ (1991) seminal process theory of coping. Despite the wide influence and use of his theory, most past research tests only subsets of the theory's main constructs and permutations between them. To determine the appropriate structure of the coping process we tested alternative longitudinal models in the context of organizational change¡ complete mediation process, partial mediation process, transposed process, and direct effects--and found that a complete mediation process model best fit the sample data: threat appraisal, ³negative anticipatory emotions, ³control coping, ³subjective well-being. Our findings support the process nature of coping, illuminate the central role of appraisal, and include emotions (a more recent and important addition to his theory). The article presents several abstracts of conference papers related to human resource practices in the U.S. The conference paper entitled 'Image Theory and Performance Appraisal: How Contrast Effects Moderate Use of the Screening Process,' explored whether image theory could offer insight into the decision making processes used in performance evaluations. In a series of three experiments, participants (N=400) evaluated the performance of a book store employee with varying degrees of good and bad performance behaviors. The authors discuss the theoretical and practical consequences of applying image theory to decision making in performance evaluations. The conference paper entitled 'Ethnic Group Differences in Measures of Job Performance: A New Meta-Analysis,' conducted a new meta-analysis of ethnic group differences in job performance. Given a substantially increased set of data as compared to earlier analyses, the authors of the paper were able to conduct analyses of Black-White differences within more clearly defined categories of job performance and to re-examine findings on objective versus subjective measurement. The conference paper entitled 'An Integrated Perspective of Antecedents to Ingratiatory Behaviors,' examined both situational and dispositional antecedents of four ingratiatory behaviors: other enhancing, opinion conformity, favor rendering, and self-promotion.
