A monograph for the pharmaceutical substance "OXYGENIUM/ OXYGEN" from the fourth edition of "The International Pharmacopoeia" is presented. Oxygen is categorized as a gas for inhalation and described as a colorless and odorless gas. A volume of oxygen dissolves in about 32 volumes of water and in about 7 volumes of ethanol TS, both at a pressure of 103.3 kPa. It is recommended that this substance be kept in a compresses gas or liquid at cryogenic temperature. Procedures for performing an identity test and assay of the substance are described.
