- Abstract
This review contains eight papers on topics within the field of information science and technology. The papers are divided into three sections as follows: (1) Planning Information Systems and Services, including "Information Ownership and Control" (Tomas A. Lipinski); and "Pricing and Marketing Online Information Services" (Sheila Anne Elizabeth Webber); (2) Basic Techniques and Technologies, including "Design of Interfaces for Information Seeking" (Gary Marchionini and Anita Komlodi); "Sociocognitive Perspectives on Representation" (Elin K. Jacob and Debora Shaw); "Metadata" (Sherry L. Vellucci); and "Cross-Language Information Retrieval" (Douglas W. Oard and Anne R. Diekema); and (3) Applications, including "Computer Supported Cooperative Work in Information Search and Retrieval" (Michael B. Twidale and David M. Nichols) and "Electronic Scholarly Journal Publishing" (Robin P. Peek and Jeffrey P. Pomerantz). Each paper includes references. The book includes an index, as well as a cumulative keyword and author index of ARIST (Annual Review of Information Science and Technology) titles in volumes 1-33. (MES)
