Dendritic cells (DC) are the most potent antigen-presenting cells and form a promising new treatment modality. Fully activated DC loaded with antigen are very useful in stimulating immune responses, in particular those to combat cancer. Immature DC can either cause immunological tolerance or induce regulatory T-cells, opening up future application in transplantation, autoimmunity, and perhaps chronic inflammation. For these clinical applications, generation of DC under Good Manufacturing Practice conditions and without the use of animal products is a main prerequisite. To date, there are many different DC culture protocols, which subsequently lead to different types of DC. Protocols differ not only in DC preparation techniques, but also many other variables, like maturation status, dose and timing interval, route of administration, and antigen loading. DC vaccination, although very promising, is far from standardized. In this chapter we discuss the usefulness of standardized clinical and immunological criteria and the need for careful study design to further optimize the use of dendritic cells and to unequivocally prove their efficacy. Recently net production of salt marsh plants in Eastern Asia, Northern and Eastern Europe and the Middle East has been measured by several authors (Kim 1975, Bjoerk and Graneli 1978, Min and Kim 1983, Oh and Ihm 1983, Allirand and Gosse 1995). These results were obtained from the peak live standing crop by harvest at regular intervals. Such a method had also been applied to estimation of net production in the plant communities along the Atlantic coastal marsh (Udell et al. 1969, Marshall 1970, Jørgenson 1994). The Phragmites communis (common reed) is considered as highly productive, and has a wide global distribution, often present in wet regions as vast homogeneous expanses of reed bads (Pearcy et al. 1974, Bjoerk and Graneli 1978, Allirand and Gosse 1995). P. communis community grows mostly in fresh but also in brackish and saline water (Ondok 1973, Min and Kim 1983, Oh and Ihm 1983, Ihm et al. 2001). They are broadly distributed in the western and southern coast in Korea (Kim et al. 1982, Oh and Ihm 1983, Ihm and Lee 1998). These reeds have been utilized to produce non-food commodities, such as paper pulp, roofing and building materials, and in waste-water treatment plants (Bjoerk and Graneli 1978, Graneli 1984, Bjorndahl 1985, Allirand and Gosse 1995). The stand development and biomass production of P. communis have been studied intensively in the field (Haslam 1969a, 1969b, 1970, Dykyjova et al. 1970, Kvet 1971, Linden 1980, Dykyjova and Pribil 1975, Fiala 1976, Ho 1979). Such characteristics as CO2 exchange and salt tolerance have been evaluated in the different locations (Purer 1942, Walker and Waygood 1968, Sieghardt 1973, Gloser 1977, Matoh et al. 1988, Cizkova and Bauer 1998, Lissner et al. 1999). Several letters are provided from the book "Robert Ross: Friend of Friends" edited by Margery Ross concerning Wilde's book "De Profundis." Journalist and art critic Robert Ross edited the book and sent copies of it to people he believed could restore Wilde's reputation including editor of the newspaper "Pall Mall Gazette," William Thomas Stead.

A biography of American writer Katherine "Kate" Chopin, is presented. She was born in Saint Louis Missouri in year 1851and died in 1904. She was an excellent pianist and received strict Catholic education. She was married with six children. Her literary works include, shorts stories such as "At Fault,"Young Doctor Gosse," and "The Awakening."

The chapter presents information about English poet John Donne and discusses his poetic style. In 1899 writer Edmund Gosse delivered his own assessment of Donne as a preacher, which locked him into a class attitude. Donne belonged to an age in which the aristocratic element exercised a domination which was apparently unquestioned. Although of middle-class birth, the temperament, manners and society of Donne were of the most distinguished order. After Donne's ecclesiastical promotion he grew repressive, as people generally do with age and success and that the egotism manifest throughout his career is what impels the poetry. Not only did the bad conscience Donne suffered while practicing the arts of apostasy and ambition produce its symptoms in the imagistic texture of his poems, but, it was argued, Donne embraced the very powers that had driven his family into martyrdom and outlawry. In the wake of Gosse's portrait the picture of Donne has changed considerably and yet, in crucial respects, not changed at all.

This article provides biographical information on author Kate Chopin. She was born on July 12, 1850 in St. Louis, Missouri, to a French Creole mother and an Irish father. In her brief career, Chopin published two novels and two collections of short stories; a number of stories remained unpublished at her death and some of them are included in the book The Complete Works. A third novel, Young Doctor Gosse, was never published, and the manuscript is no longer extant. Daniel S. Rankin's Kate Chopin and Her Creole Stories, is a critical biography concentrating primarily on her short stories.

Information about the artistic design of the "Bird and Fish Panels," by sculptors Jules Gosse and Alison Doyle with the Hypostyle Architects is presented. The bird panels are in the form of triptychs at regular intervals, and the fish panels are inserted in the steel railings. Henry Austin Dobson (1840–1921), Poet and essayist, born at Plymouth, Devon, and educated at Beaumaris Grammar School and at Strasbourg. He entered the Board of Trade, where he served from 1856 to 1901, with Edmund Gosse as close friend and colleague. Metal complexes play an important role in anion receptor chemistry. In the majority of examples metal centres are used as optical and/or electrochemical reporter groups in anion-sensing applications. Metal centres can also act as Lewis acidic anion-binding sites in their own right, and/or as structural components allowing the self-assembly of anion-binding domains. This review describes the development of metal-based receptors with regard to their anion-sensing properties, and is therefore divided into sections on electrochemical and optical anion sensing. Within these sections coverage has been given to the diverse range of metals and anion-binding groups that have been studied. Emphasis has been placed on recently described novel supramolecular, nanoscale and surface confined anion receptor systems that give added functionality.
