The Cu(I)-MOF catalyst was applied to the selective hydrogenation of CO2 to ethanol in a continuous-flow DBD plasma reactor. At an ambient condition, as high as 41.2% CO2 was converted to ethanol (selectivity up to 62.9%).

Under the synergetic effect of a low oxygen vacancy concentration and rapid cooling rate, the air-cooled BTO powder achieved a significantly enhanced piezocatalytic activity, with a large degradation rate constant k of 0.077 min−1 and a H2 evolution rate of 1.43 mmol h−1 g−1.

Background: Although TRIpartite Motif containing 8 (TRIM8) gene plays an important role in a number of biological processes, such as inflammation, its function and mechanism in ulcer-ative colitis (UC) remain unknown. Methods: The UC model was established by feeding mice with 3.5% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). The animals were divided into the following four groups: control group, DSS group, DSS+short hairpin (sh)-NC group, and DSS+sh-TRIM8 group. Changes in body weight and disease activity index (DAI) score of mice in all the groups were recorded for 7 days. The animals were executed at the end of the experiment, and the expression of TRIM8 in colon tissue was detected by polymerase chain reaction and Western blot assays. The length of colon was measured, and the histopathological changes in mice colon were examined by hematoxylin and eosin staining. The expression of pro-inflammatory factors in mice serum and colonic tissue homogenate was detected by enzyme-linked-immunosorbent serologic assay. The expression of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway-related proteins in colonic tissues was detected by Western-blot analysis. Results: TRIM8 was highly expressed in the colonic tissues of UC mice. Knockdown of TRIM8 improved DSS-induced weight loss, increased DAI score, shortened colon length, and alleviated colonic injury and inflammation in mice. Western-blot experiments showed that knockdown of TRIM8 inhibited DSS-induced phosphorylation of p65 and nuclear factor of kappa light polypeptide gene enhancer in B-cells inhibitor, alpha (IκBα) protein but increased IκBα expression. Conclusion: Knockdown of TRIM8 inhibits UC injury and inflammatory response caused by DSS. This could be related to the regulation of NF-κB signaling pathway by TRIM8 protein.

Tonalid, an important fragrance ingredient with widespread application, was synthesized via two Friedel-Crafts reactions, which were catalyzed by AlCl3. The traditional tonalid production was conducted in batch stirring tank reactors, suffering from low production capacity and the safety hazard of temperature runaway. To solve these problems, the continuous-flow technologies were developed for the high-efficiency and intrinsically safe synthesis of tonalid in microreactors. Catalyst AlCl3 was neatly homogenized in proper solvents by forming complex with reactant, which was a necessary step for the continuous synthesis in microreactors. Several reaction conditions, including reactant molar ratio, catalyst concentration, temperature, and microchannel hydrodynamic diameter, were investigated for the two Friedel-Crafts reactions in microreactors. At optimized conditions, the yields of the two Friedel-Crafts reactions were 44.15% and 97.55%, respectively. In comparison with the batch reactors, the reaction times of these two reactions could both be reduced by nearly two thirds in microreactors at the similar yield.

Despite extensive use of online language learning during the pandemic of COVID, there is insufficient research on what factors influence students’ foreign language achievements in online learning conditions. This article investigated the roles of language aptitude and online self-regulated learning in foreign language achievement in mainland China. 76 freshmen from two classes at a university in Jiangxi participated in this study. They were required to complete an aptitude test of MLAT and a questionnaire on online self-regulated learning. The results showed that: (1) The students’ language aptitude is at a relatively low level, and their online self-regulated learning is at an intermediate level; (2) A positive correlation is detected between language aptitude, online self-regulated learning, and their English achievements (r=0.621 & 0.583 respectively); (3) Language aptitude alone (grammatical sensitivity and associative memory ability) accounts for 38.9% variance in English achievement. Language aptitude and online self-regulated learning contributed 52.4% of the variance to their English achievements. Overall, the findings of the study confirm the high predictive power of the MLAT and predictions of the Linguistic Coding Deficit Hypothesis (LCDH) advocated by Sparks and colleagues. Pedagogical implications are also discussed.

The coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) poses an unprecedented challenge to health and the financial system, especially the healthcare of patients with cancer. However, the research on the negative effect of the pandemic on the anxiety and depressive symptoms of cancer patients in closed-loop is rarely reported at present. In view of the limitations of previous studies. In this study, we compared the anxiety and depressive symptoms of head and neck cancer patients in the closed-loop management system before and during the 2019 coronavirus pandemic.In this comparative study, a total of 526 head and neck cancer patients (269 and 257 patients before and during the COVID-19 pandemic) were enrolled in the present study. The two groups of patients' median age (53 years, 52 years), female distribution (70.26%, 66.15%) and male distribution (29.74%, 33.85%) were analyzed before and after the COVID-19 epidemic. They received questionnaires using the standardized data forms of Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) to collect the relevant data of patients for retrospective investigation. For data analysis, either the chi-squared test or Fisher's exact test was employed for categorical variables, and we described the time trend of psychological states before and after the outbreak with Cochran-Armitage trend (CAT) test.A total of 526 head and neck cancer patients were included in the final analysis; 26.85% and 50.19% of cases experienced anxiety and depression during the COVID-19 epidemic. In contrast, 18.22% and 33.46% of cases had experienced anxiety and depression before the pandemic. According to the statistical results, the prevalence of anxiety and depression in patients during the COVID-19 epidemic was higher compared to that of patients prior to the pandemic (P=0.018). More importantly, both anxiety and depression incidence trends increased significantly before and after the outbreak of COVID-19 (P=0.000).The present study demonstrates the significant impact of COVID-19 on the psychological states of cancer patients in the case of closed-loop management system, effectively indicating the need for appropriate changes in treatment decisions, enhanced psychotherapy, and interventions to reduce the incidence of anxiety, depression, and even suicide during this pandemic.

Oncogenic fusion proteins, arising from chromosomal rearrangements, have emerged as prominent drivers of tumorigenesis and crucial therapeutic targets in cancer research. In recent years, the potential of small molecular inhibitors in selectively targeting fusion proteins has exhibited significant prospects, offering a novel approach to combat malignancies harboring these aberrant molecular entities. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of small molecular inhibitors as therapeutic agents for oncogenic fusion proteins. We discuss the rationale for targeting fusion proteins, elucidate the mechanism of action of inhibitors, assess the challenges associated with their utilization, and provide a summary of the clinical progress achieved thus far. The objective is to provide the medicinal community with current and pertinent information and to expedite the drug discovery programs in this area.

Lead (Pb), an environmental hazard, causes severe diseases in the liver, kidney, cardiovascular system, hematopoietic system, reproductive system, and nervous system. Avicularin (AVI), the main dietary flavonoid found in many citrus fruits, exhibited potential protective properties on organs. However, the molecular mechanisms of these protective actions are currently not clear. In our study, the effects of AVI on Pb-induced hepatotoxicity were evaluated using ICR mice. Changes in oxidative stress, inflammation, lipid metabolism, and related signaling were evaluated. We found for the first time that treatment with AVI significantly reduced hepatic steatosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress induced by Pb. AVI attenuated Pb-induced liver dysfunction and lipid metabolism disorder in mice. AVI decreased the serum biochemical indicators of lipid metabolism. AVI decreased the expression levels of lipid metabolism-related protein SREBP-1c, acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), and FAS. AVI suppressed Pb-induced inflammation in livers, as indicated by decreasing the TNF-α and IL-1β levels. AVI suppressed oxidative stress by increasing the activation of SOD, CAT, and GPx. Furthermore, AVI inhibited the activities of JNK, ERK, p38, and NF-κB. AVI further decreased the levels of HSP60, NLRP3, p-IκBα, and p-p65 in the livers of mice. Collectively, this study indicated that AVI mitigated Pb-induced hepatic steatosis, oxidative stress, and inflammation by regulating the SREBP-1c and MAPK/HSP60/NLRP3 signaling pathways.

Objectives This study evaluated optimum stability of different screw techniques for condylar head fractures (CHF) (P close to an M fracture with the lateral pole preserved according to AO classification 2014) by finite element analysis (FEA) and provided a biomechanical basis for clinical treatment. Study Design Four CHF fixation models were evaluated: (A) single bicortical screw, (B) 2 bicortical screws, (C) 1 bicortical screw and 1 monocortical screw (used as a positional screw) inserted via a 2-hole titanium plate, and (D) 2 bicortical screws inserted via a titanium plate. Stresses were calculated (FEA) to measure mechanical properties. Results The displacement for A and C was larger than for B and D. The maximum stress on the screws for A and C exceeded their breaking limit but was safe for B and D. The stress on the titanium plate for C and D was safe. The stress on bone for A and C was larger than for B and D. Conclusions The 2 bicortical screw fixation reduced the stress on implanted materials and surrounding bone tissue. Titanium plates further alleviated the lever action. Two bicortical screw fixation was more reliable for CHF, and early postoperative loading and functional training can be expected.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disorder characterized by disturbed cellular and humoral immune responses. Dysregulations of immune system and immunosuppressive medications predispose SLE patients to infection. This study aims to investigate the alterations and absolute concentrations of lymphocyte subpopulations in SLE patients with different infection and their responses of low-dose IL-2 therapy. A total of 333 patients with SLE without recent infection, 162 patients suffering infection, and age and sex-matched 132 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. Of them, 54 SLE patients (including 41 non-infected group and 13 infected group) received a 5-day course of low-dose IL-2 administration at a dose of 0.5 million IU per day. Lymphocyte subpopulations were analyzed by flow cytometry. Patients with SLE had lower levels of lymphocyte subpopulations in peripheral blood such as T, B, NK, CD4 + T, CD8+ T, Th1, Th2, Th17, and Treg cells, and the reduction in these cells was more obvious in patients with infection (p p <.01). After the emergence of COVID-19 in 2019, it has now become a pandemic. COVID-19 has brought painful disasters to people all over the world. It not only threatens lives and health but also induces economic crises. At present, promising methods to eradicate COVID-19 mainly include drugs and vaccines. Enzyme inhibitors have always been a reliable strategy for the treatment of related diseases. Scientists worldwide have worked together to study COVID-19, obtained the structure of key SARS-CoV-2 associated enzymes, and reported the research of inhibitors of these enzymes. This article summarizes COVID-19-related enzyme inhibitors' recent development, mainly including 3CLpro, PLpro, TMPRSS2, and RdRp inhibitors, hoping to provide valuable weapons in the ensuing battle against COVID-19.

Y-box binding protein 1 (YB-1) is a well-known oncogene highly expressed in various cancers, including basal-like breast cancer (BLBC). Beyond its role as a transcription factor, YB-1 is newly defined as an epigenetic regulator involving RNA 5-methylcytosine. However, its specific targets and pro-cancer functions are poorly defined. Here, based on clinical database, we demonstrate a positive correlation between Kruppel-like factor 5 (KLF5) and YB-1 expression in breast cancer patients, but a negative correlation with that of Dachshund homolog 1 (DACH1). Mechanistically, YB-1 enhances KLF5 expression not only through transcriptional activation that can be inhibited by DACH1, but also by stabilizing KLF5 mRNA in a RNA 5-methylcytosine modification-dependent manner. Additionally, ribosomal S6 kinase 2 (RSK2) mediated YB-1 phosphorylation at Ser102 promotes YB-1/KLF5 transcriptional complex formation, which co-regulates the expression of BLBC specific genes, Keratin 16 (KRT16) and lymphocyte antigen 6 family member D (Ly6D), to promote cancer cell proliferation. The RSK inhibitor, LJH685, suppressed BLBC cell tumourigenesis in vivo by disturbing YB-1-KLF5 axis. Our data suggest that YB-1 positively regulates KLF5 at multiple levels to promote BLBC progression. The novel RSK2-YB-1-KLF5-KRT16/Ly6D axis provides candidate diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for BLBC.

Responsive emulsions are the emulsions that can be reversibly switched on-demand between “stable” and “unstable” by environmental stimulus or trigger, which allows a simple and effective adjustment approach to achieve emulsification and demulsification. In recent years, stimuli-responsive emulsions acting as smart soft material are received considerable attention with the advantages of simple manipulation, good reversibility, low cost, easy treatment, and little effect on the system. In this paper, the recent research progress of emulsions that can respond to external stimuli, including pH, light, magnetic field, CO2/N2 and dual responsive are reviewed. Also, the potential applications based on responsive emulsion are discussed, such as catalytic reactions, heavy oil recovery, polymer particles synthesis and optical sensor, aiming to summarize the latest achievements and put forward the possible development trends of responsive emulsions.

The stability issue has become one of the main challenges for the commercialization of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Formamidinium (FA)-based perovskites have shown great promise owing to their improved thermal and moisture stability. However, these perovskites are suffering from phase transition and separation. Here, a method of incorporating of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and cesium cations into FAPbI3 is developed to improve the phase stability. It is demonstrated that the crystallinity of α-FAPbI3 phase is greatly improved and the phase transition temperature is significantly dropped. The resultant solar cell therefore obtains a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.71%, which is one of the highest efficiencies for methylammonium-free PSCs. Furthermore, it shows an impressively enhanced stability under illumination, exhibiting the great potential of FA-based perovskites for efficient and stable solar cells.

This study was intended to elucidate the effects of HACE1 in Citrobacter rodentium-Induced Murine Colitis. Male C57BL/6 mice orally administered with 100 µLof Citrobacter rodentium DBS-100 (109 CFU mL−1) for 14 days. The expression of HACE1 in Citrobacter rodentium-Induced Murine Colitis was increased. HACE1 promoted inflammation and ROS levels in macrophage through the inactivation of Nrf2/NLRP3 signaling pathway. Meanwhile, si-HACE1 reduced inflammation and ROS levels in macrophage via the inhibition of Nrf2/NLRP3 signaling pathway. Sh-HACE1 reduced inflammatory responses in Citrobacter rodentium-Induced Murine Colitis through the promotion of Nrf2/NLRP3 signaling pathway. IP showed that HACE1 protein catenated with Nrf2 protein to suppress ROS-induced NLRP3 in macrophage through the promotion of Nrf2 Ubiquitination. Altogether, our data demonstrate that the inhibition of HACE1 ameliorates inflammatory responses in Citrobacter rodentium-induced Murine Colitis through the inhibition of ROS-induced mitochondrial damage by Nrf2/NLRP3. m6A promoted HACE1 stability by METTL3. Our study revealed the m6A methyltransferase METTL3 promoted HACE1 stability to promote NLRP3 activity in Citrobacter rodentium-Induced Murine Colitis by the inhibition of Nrf2.

A series of polymeric ionic liquids (PILs) used as effective heterogeneous catalysts for biodiesel production via esterification of free fatty acids (FFAs) were effectively prepared by the reaction of poly (ethylene imine) (PEI) polymers with different molecular weight and 1,3-propanesultone, followed by the further acidification with differential effective acids, i.e. H2SO4, CF3SO3H, CH3SO3H or p-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA). Ultrahigh acidity and catalytic performance were achieved and could be fine-tuned by simply adjusting the molecular weight of PEI and by further treatment of acids. Specifically, under the optimal conditions (i.e. reaction temperature was 70 °C, reaction time was 2.0 h, catalyst dosage was 3.15% (mass), and alcohol/acid molar ratio was 14:1) acquired through the Box-BEHNKEN response surface methodology, a high oleic acid conversion of 98.42% could be obtained over the optimal PIL, PEI(70000)-PS-p-TSA. Additionally, our PILs also showed high generality for esterification of other FFAs, with general high conversion over 90% noted in each case even under much milder reaction conditions compared to other conventional catalysts.

We herein discuss the impacts of miR-101-3p on the tumorigenesis-related cell behaviors in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) by repressing KPNA2. TCGA database was utilized to measure miR-101-3p and KPNA2 levels in LUSC tissues and cells. The interaction of miR-101-3p and KPNA2-3'UTR was determined by dual luciferase assay. Western blot evaluated the protein level of KPNA2. MiR-101-3p was under-expressed in LUSC cells while KPNA2 was overexpressed. Western blot confirmed the impact of KPNA2 expression on cancer cell progression. The negative regulatory impact of miR-101-3p on KPNA2 was also verified. In vitro cell function assays revealed the suppressing effect of high miR-101-3p expression on cell invasion, migration and viability, as well as its promoting effect on apoptosis. Up-regulated miR-101-3p weakened the promoting effect of overexpressed KPNA2 on LUSC malignant progression. To conclude, miR-101-3p repressed viability, invasion, and migration, and facilitated cell apoptosis in LUSC by suppressing KPNA2.

Background: Given the ongoing research on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and colorectal cancer (CRC), the number of studies suggesting a strong link between NAFLD and CRC is on the rise, while its underlying pathological mechanisms remain uncertain. This study aims to explore the shared genes and mechanisms and to reveal the molecular basis of the association between CRC and NAFLD through bioinformatics approaches.Methods: The Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset GSE89632 is downloaded for NAFLD cases and healthy controls. Additionally, the GSE4107 and GSE9348 datasets are obtained for CRC cases and healthy controls. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) are obtained for NAFLD and CRC datasets, as well as shared genes between the two disorders. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses are further conducted. Subsequently, the STRING database and Cytoscape software are utilized to establish the PPI network and identify the hub genes. Then, co-expression analysis is performed using GeneMANIA. Subsequently, ROC curves and external datasets validation were applied to further screen the candidate markers. Finally, NetworkAnalyst is available as a means to construct a miRNA-gene regulatory network.Results: Under the threshold of FDR ≤ 0.01, 147 common genes are obtained in NAFLD and CRC. Categorization of GO functions shows that DEGs are predominantly enriched in “response to organic substance”, “cellular response to chemical stimulus”, and “response to external stimulus”. The predominant KEGG pathways in DEGs are the “IL-17 signaling pathway”, the “TNF signaling pathway”, “Viral protein interaction with cytokine and cytokine receptor”, “Cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction”, and the “Toll-like receptor signaling pathway”. Additionally, MYC, IL1B, FOS, CXCL8, PTGS2, MMP9, JUN, and IL6 are identified as hub genes by the evaluation of 7 algorithms. With the construction of miRNA-gene networks, 2 miRNAs, including miR-106a-5p, and miR-204-5p are predicted to be potential key miRNAs.Conclusion: This study identifies possible hub genes acting in the co-morbidity of NAFLD and CRC and discovers the interaction of miRNAs and hub genes, providing a novel understanding of the molecular basis for the relevance of CRC and NAFLD, thus contributing to the development of new therapeutic strategies to combat NAFLD and CRC.

Lead (Pb), an environmental hazard, causes several human diseases. Avicularin (Avi), a main dietary flavonoid found in several plants and fruits, exhibits potential protective properties on organs. However, the molecular mechanisms of Avi’s protective effects against Pb-induced damage are not clear. In our study, the effects of Avi on Pb-induced hepatotoxicity were evaluated using ICR mice. We have revealed for the first time that treatment with Avi significantly reduced hepatic inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and glucose metabolism disorder induced by Pb. Avi decreased the serum biochemical indicators of glucose metabolism. Avi increased the activities of glycogenolysis rate-limiting enzyme hexokinase (HK), pyruvate kinase (PK), glucokinase (GK) and glycogen phosphorylase (PYG) and inhibited the activities of gluconeogenesis rate-limiting enzyme phosphoenolpyruvate carboxy kinase (PEPCK) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD). Avi decreased the protein expression levels of glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), phosphorylated inositol requiring enzyme 1 (p-IRE1), phosphorylated RNA-dependent protein kinase-like ER kinase (p-PERK) and phosphorylated eukaryotic initiation factor 2α (p-eIF2α). The levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were decreased in the liver as a result of Avi suppression Pb-induced inflammation. These results indicated that Avi attenuated Pb-induced impairment of hepatic glucose metabolism by the ERS and inflammation pathway.

Due to the low bio-availability of inorganic trace minerals, its application in poultry production has been causing many problems such as environment pollution and waste of resources. The current study was designed to evaluate if replacing inorganic trace minerals (ITM) with small peptide chelate trace minerals (SPM) affects production performance, some biochemical parameters and antioxidant status, tibia mineral deposition, and fecal mineral content in 817 white-feathered broilers. A total of 432 broilers (21-day-old) were randomly divided into four groups with six replicates of 18 chicks each. The four groups included inorganic trace minerals group (addition of 1,000 mg/kg ITM; common practice by commercial poultry farms), three organic trace minerals groups with supplementation of 150, 300, and 500 mg/kg SPM, respectively. The experiment lasted for 30 days. The results showed that there was no significant difference in growth performance and slaughter performance among the four groups (p > 0.05). Total cholesterol in the SPM group was significantly lower than those in the ITM groups (p < 0.01). Compared with the ITM group, the serum urea nitrogen in 150 and 300 mg/kg SPM groups decreased significantly (p < 0.01). Among all SPM treatments, 300 mg/kg SPM groups had the highest serum glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity (p < 0.01). The activity of copper and zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn SOD) of liver in ITM group was the lowest among the four groups (p < 0.01). The catalase (CAT) activity of liver in the 150 mg/kg SPM group was significantly higher than the ITM group and 300 mg/kg SPM group (p < 0.05). Compared to the ITM group, the iron content of the tibia was significantly increased in 300 mg/kg SPM group (p < 0.05) and 500 mg/kg SPM group (p < 0.01). Compared to the ITM group, dietary supplementation with SPM significantly reduced fecal content of zinc and manganese (p < 0.01). The 150 mg/kg SPM and 300 mg/kg SPM group had significantly reduced content of iron (p < 0.05). This study demonstrated that replacing inorganic minerals with low doses of SPM (300 and 500 mg/kg) did not negatively affect growth and slaughter performance, as well as the antioxidant status of broiler chickens. In addition, SPM can also promote mineral content in the tibia and reduce mineral content in the feces.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) is known to play vital roles in modulating tumorigenesis. We previously reported that LCAT1, a novel lncRNA, promotes the growth and metastasis of lung cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo. However, the underlying mechanism(s) of LCAT1 as an oncogenic regulator remains elusive. Here, we showed that LCAT1 physically interacts with and stabilizes IGF2BP2, an m6A reader protein, by preventing its degradation via autolysosomes. IGF2BP2 is overexpressed in lung cancer tissues, which is associated with poor survival of non-small cell lung cancer patients, suggesting its oncogenic role. Biologically, IGF2BP2 depletion inhibits growth and survival as well as the migration of lung cancer cells. Mechanistically, the LCAT1/IGF2BP2 complex increased the levels of CDC6, a key cell cycle regulator, by stabilizing its mRNA in an m6A-dependent manner. Like IGF2BP2, CDC6 is also overexpressed in lung cancer tissues with poor patient survival, and CDC6 knockdown has oncogenic inhibitory activity. Taken together, the LCAT1-IGF2BP2-CDC6 axis appears to play a vital role in promoting the growth and migration of lung cancer cells, and is a potential therapeutic target for lung cancer. Importantly, our finding also highlights a previously unknown critical role of LCAT1 in m6A-dependent gene regulation by preventing autolytic degradation of IGF2BP2.

Zinc and cadmium are two main transition metal ions and play profound important roles in environmental and human health. But the distinctive detection of these two ions is still challenging since they belong to the same periodic group and have similar chemical properties. A fluorescent bipyridine-based porous organic polymer (Bpy-POP) containing aggregation caused quenching (ACQ) units (anthracene) and metal ions recognition units (bipyridine) was synthesized through the Schiff base condensation reaction. In the DMF/H2O mixtures with the water fractions of 90%, the Bpy-POP aggregated and the fluorescent Bpy-POP quenched subsequently due to the ACQ effect of anthracene in the skeleton (“OFF” state). With the addition of Zn2+ or Cd2+, however, the strong coordination of the bipyridine units from the adjacent Bpy-POPs with Zn2+ or Cd2+ induced the partial dispersion of large Bpy-POP aggregates. Consequently, the fluorescence intensities enhanced dramatically as well as the fluorescence emission shifted to redder region, showing an “ON” state. Combing the fluorescence increasing efficiency and the maximum emission wavelength shift degree together, Zn2+ and Cd2+ can be selectively discriminated and quantitatively detected, which exhibits a great promising of the present Bpy-POP based method in Zn2+ and Cd2+ monitoring in real samples.

Producing 2-ethyl-1-hexyl thioglycolate (ETE) via esterification reaction with thioglycolic acid (TGA) aqueous solution as raw material by reactive-separation coupling technology is a promising process intensification method. To choose suitable reactive-separation coupling strategy, the kinetic studies of the esterification of TGA with 2-ethyl-1-hexanol (EHL) were carried out in a batch system. The commercial ion exchange resin was employed as an eco-friendly catalyst. The effects of temperature, catalyst concentration and molar ratio were determined. It was interesting to observe that the equilibrium conversion of TGA increased with the increase of catalyst mass fraction due to the adsorption of product water onto resin surface. The activity-based pseudo-homogeneous (PH), Eley-Rideal (ER) and Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson (LHHW) models were used to fit the kinetics data of the resin-catalyzed reaction. The models of ER and LHHW performed better than the PH model. The kinetics of the TGA-self-catalyzed reaction was also determined. An activity-based homogeneous kinetics model could well describe this self-catalyzed reaction. These results would be meaningful to the selection and design of an appropriate reaction-separation strategy for the production of ETE, to realize the process intensification.

Although the morphological assessment of melanoma is generally straightforward, diagnosis can be especially difficult when the significant morphological and immunohistochemical results overlap with those of benign and malignant melanocytic tumours and histological mimics. This study assessed the potential diagnostic utility of measuring PReferentially expressed Antigen in MElanoma (PRAME) immunohistochemically in naevi, melanomas and clear cell sarcomas (CCSs) in Chinese patients.We examined the immunohistochemical expression of PRAME in 317 melanocytic naevi, 178 primary melanomas, 72 metastatic melanomas and 19 CCSs and compared the sensitivity and specificity of PRAME immunohistochemistry (IHC) in the differential diagnosis of melanocytic tumours and histological mimics.Of the 317 melanocytic naevi, 98.1%were completely negative for PRAME; six cases showed focal PRAME immunoreactivity in a minor population of lesional melanocytes. Diffuse nuclear immunoreactivity for PRAME was found in 89.9% of primary melanomas and 93.1% of metastatic melanomas. Regarding melanoma subtypes, PRAME was expressed in 100% of superficial spreading melanomas, 100% of melanomas arise in congenital naevus, 91.4% of nodular melanomas, 87.8% of acral lentigo melanomas, 80.0% of lentigo malignant melanomas, 60.0% of Spitz melanomas, 96.2% of mucosal melanomas and 80.0% of uveal melanomas. None of the two desmoplastic melanomas expressed PRAME. Of the 19 CCS cases, 89.5% were negative for PRAME and 10.5% showed focal weak PRAME immunoreactivity in a minor population of tumour cells.Our findings indicate that PRAME may be a useful marker to support a suspected diagnosis of melanoma. In addition, lack of PRAME expression is a valuable hint to CCS in a suspected case, and then molecular confirmation of the presence of EWSR1 rearrangement is necessary.

To explore the effect of bilateral coronoidectomy on stress distribution after reconstruction of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) by costochondral graft.Ten groups of models were established to simulate costochondral graft reconstruction with simultaneously different distances (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 mm) of mandibular advancement, with or without coronoidectomy. Force and stress distribution in the rib-cartilage area were analyzed by finite element analysis.In the process of bilateral joint reconstruction with simultaneously mandible advancement ranging from 0 mm to 8 mm, when the coronoid processes were retained, the forward deformation of the cartilage occurred and the shear force decreased in turn, from 113.2 N to 26.7 N on the left side and from 133.7 N to 1.9 N on the right side. When the coronoid processes were removed, the cartilage deformed backward and the shear force increased successively, from 94.6 N to 188.5 N on the left and 70.1 N to 157.7 N on the right. The stress in the neck was obviously concentrated when mandible advanced 8 mm.Coronoidectomy has an important impact on stress distribution in the TMJ area, and keeping the coronoid process is beneficial to maintain the mechanical balance. Bilateral CCG reconstruction with coronoidectomy for lengthy mandible advancement (≥ 8 mm) may lead to prominent increase in shear force beyond CCG resistance, resulting in a costal-cartilage junction fracture.
