This article correlates the results of three studies carried out between 2019 and 2022, on the situation of women in the context of the palm oil industry, water quality, and the dynamics of expansion of oil palm cultivation, with the period 2010-2020, in seven municipalities of the Northern Lowlands of Guatemala (Ixcán, Sayaxché, Chisec, Raxruhá, Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Panzós and El Estor). The results of these analyses allow the authors to draw some conclusions that corroborate the complaints of local communities regarding the socio-environmental impacts of this monocrop. The article concludes with the need for the Guatemalan State to exercise its role as guarantor of human and environmental rights. At the same time, the international community must advance in approving regulations that ensure that transnational corporations observe "due diligence" throughout supply chains.
