ABSTRACT This paper aims to map the different theoretical options related to the Precautionary Principle (PP). Great part of the literature on it can be systematized by answering to three different questions: is there a basic structure in the PP? If so, in which interpretation of the PP does this structure express itself? Finally, are its damage or knowledge conditions fixed or adjustable? The first question separates realist from non-realist approaches. The second question allows us to discriminate monist, dualist, or pluralist positions in relation to the three interpretations of the PP: decision rule, procedural requirement, or epistemic rule. Finally, the third question distinguishes rigid from non-rigid formulations of the principle. Based on this mapping, one can not only navigate through the different formulations of the PP present both in official documents and in specialized literature, but also deflect some of its common objections, and understand Hans Jonas’ eventual connection with PP. Notwithstanding, this mapping does not capture other important themes attached to PP, which motivates a final distinction between narrow and broader forms of PP.

The relationship between religions and sustainability allows different approaches, whether by religious diversity or by various initiatives in the field of education, spirituality, and human promotion. In the present article, we chose to present the basic concepts that guide the relationship between sustainability and spirituality, the different emphases that mobilize the environmental engagement of religions and, finally, the most significant religious and inter-religious initiatives from the 1990s to the present. However, this is not a quantitative assessment; rather, it is a way to verify the quality of religious commitment to sustainability, including hermeneutic and theological aspects: the relationship between the Creator, Humanity and Nature; sustainability and ecological virtues; environmental care and spirituality; and, recognition of Mother Earth. The results confirm the ecological awakening of religions and their environmental engagement, marked by the articulation between human ecology and environmental ecology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ENVIRONMENTAL management , *WESTERN society , *NEOCOLONIALISM , *ECONOMIC models , *TWENTY-first century , *ANTHROPOCENTRISM , *ENVIRONMENTAL ethics ,DEVELOPING countries - Abstract
The article offers considerations about extractive neocolonialism and its consequences in the establishment of environmental policies in so-called Third World countries, considering the omnipresence of neoliberal thinking in Western society. The hypothesis put forward is in the sense that the extractive economic model of the 21st century applied in the countries of the global South has a decisive influence on preventing or promoting agendas to contain the global environmental crisis. The hypothetical-deductive method was used, starting from the proposition that anthropocentrism and its logic of domination produce the reductionism of all life and all culture that is not the hegemonic one, producing irreparable damage and assuming unacceptable risks. As results achieved, it was found that the anthropocentrism of European roots promotes a biased reading of Nature to meet projects of absolute domination, over natural elements, over other cultures and over each other. It is necessary to decolonize environmental management practices and implement plural mechanisms to define the environmental agenda for the need to build a new cosmopolitan ethic. The article "Ecology and decoloniality: mutual implications" is a review of Sinivaldo Tavares' book, which discusses the intersection between the ecological paradigm and the decolonial perspective. The author analyzes the influence of hegemonic paradigms of the market, technoscience, and media on human culture, highlighting the emergence of the ecological paradigm as an alternative. He also explores the relationship between modernity, colonialism, and the racial division of labor, as well as discussing the naturalization of the market and technoscience. The text also addresses the relationship between technology, liberation theology, and the decolonial turn, arguing that technology is extracted from nature and raising questions about its impact on society. Finally, the author emphasizes the importance of ecotheology as an integrated approach to addressing the socio-environmental crisis. [Extracted from the article]

SUSTAINABILITY , *CRITICAL thinking , *CULTURAL identity , *SOCIAL structure , *SOCIAL clubs , *ENVIRONMENTAL ethics - Abstract
In the face of global crises, various communities around the globe have been undertaking counter-hegemonic alternatives for social and productive organization. This essay takes up this premise, and through a narrative review of the academic literature and from a decolonial perspective, discusses the role of ecovillages within the pluriverse of alternatives, aiming to contribute to a critical reflection on the community confluence processes that strive to be both fair and ecological. It is understood that the socioenvironmental practices of ecovillages, in confluence with the plurality of networked community alternatives, tend to represent a promising path for the necessary transition towards a fair and low-carbon society, in tune with the three-pronged dimensions of cultural identity, social equity and ecological sustainability associated with the communal ethics of Good Living [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EDUCATION ethics , *MORAL education , *POLITICAL science education , *ETHICS education , *VALUES (Ethics) , *TEACHER role , *ENVIRONMENTAL ethics , *PROFESSIONAL ethics of teachers - Abstract
The book "La educación moral, una obra de arte" by Félix García Moriyón problematizes education, addressing issues such as education as a political activity, credentialism in schools, the presence of religion in the educational system, and education as an ethical institution. The author argues that education is a political activity and that teachers have the role of building a just society. He also criticizes meritocracy and the excessive focus on academic titles. Additionally, the author addresses the issue of religion in schools, advocating for the rational influence of Catholicism in the teaching-learning process. However, the author does not offer definitive answers to these problems, only diagnosing them. The text discusses the issue of education in relation to religion, ethics, and morality. The author questions whether religion should be taught in schools and whether teachers are prepared to address this subject impartially. Furthermore, he argues that ethics should be taught in conjunction with families and that values are primarily experienced at home. The author also raises the question of teachers' ethics and whether they should have a special ethics in relation to students. However, he does not provide a definitive answer to these questions. The text discusses the issue of ethics in education, highlighting the difficulty of teaching in a neutral and impartial manner, especially when it comes to topics such as Marxism and war conflicts. The author also addresses the importance of patience and affection from teachers, as well as the need to earn moral authority in the classroom. Additionally, the text mentions the idea of transforming the classroom into a community of ethical research and emphasizes the importance of approaching education as a work of art. However, it is worth noting that not all disciplines benefit from this artistic approach. [Extracted from the article]

- Abstract
Brazil has one of the largest environmental biodiversity in the world and at the same time, when it comes to biotechnology’s application, it is the second country in the use of genetically modified organisms. This scenario denotes a fruitful field for the application of promising genetic editing technologies in the environmental and agricultural areas. However, to the benefits offered by this technique, there is an emerging need to list environmental risks and proper management and environmental protection in global terms. In this context, from the manipulation of living organisms and systems, unpredictability emerges as one of the singularly problematic factors. Despite this, the ethical conflicts that emerge from it can be guided by an ethics of responsibility, based on a primary duty of precaution over possible possibilities. This article, based on the framework of global bioethics, addresses such unpredictability and conflicts, considering that the ongoing debate on such biotechnological innovations for genetic manipulation requires not only expanding the horizon of analysis on environmental issues, but also and deepening the reflections that take into account aspects specific to the genome manipulation techniques in use, meanly in the challenging Brazilian context, which has such great biodiversity. The purpose of this article is to analyze the concept of sustainable development and how it supports environmental ethics. For your best resourcefulness, the text is divided into two parts: in the first, the concept of sustainable development will be examined; in the second, to think the concept of environmental ethics. Now, to what extent could sustainable development have an ethical dimension? Would it be a good answer in the light of environmental ethics in the face of huge development? We hope to contribute to the debate on sustainable development and, above all, to the advancement of studies on environmental ethics in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The relation that social groups establish with nature is permeated by the systems of representations and ideas, especially the religious and philosophical. However, the trajectory traversed by the urban-industrial society, based on profit, has led to serious environmental problems, among them the deforestation of the Amazon. It is in the search for relationships that attribute non-economic values to nature that begins this article, which analyzes the relationship between the perception of the sacred in nature and an environmental ethics associated with pro-ecological behaviors. The research was developed from a bibliographical-documentary survey, direct observations, notes and semi-structured interviews directed to the members of three Daimists centers, a center of Barquinha, and twenty local venues of União do Vegetal, religions that make ritual use of the Ayahuasca tea in the State of Rondônia/Brazil. The results showed that, to the extent that the individual spontaneously recognizes the sacred in nature, he broadens his environmental awareness and ethical posture towards the environment in parallel and gradually. However, in the religions analyzed, these attitudes do not depend solely on the adepts who arrive, since some of them do not demonstrate an ecological behavior, but, mainly, of several established institutional arrangements that direct the practices of the same ones in the sustainable management of their territories. The article starts from a situational analysis of the degradation of the environment and identifies that the lack of affirmative actions for its preservation by the public authorities has as one of the causes of this complex problem the individual ethical crisis. From the analysis of the fundamentals of individual responsibility in preserving the environment, under the ethical point of view, it is sought to identify ways to circumvent the spiral of degradation, through the identification of an environmental ethics. The company, a secular institution that is the driving force of the economy, has its role as a generator of wealth equaled to its social responsibility for the preservation of the environment, subject to planning and measurement by the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) concept. His conclusion is that environmental preservation must be cultivated in the individual and permeate the actions of companies and governmental and non-governmental entities, in order to make it compatible with capitalism, which is possible from a humanist perspective. - Abstract
Nature can be considered as a social, environmental or natural good or service. We must preserve it by itself, so that all living beings, on a local or global scale, can enjoy it equitably, as a producer of value in the aesthetic, historical and scientific senses. Nowadays, there is a crisis of values, not only human, but also environmental. This crisis is the result of the way human beings explore and relate to the environment. In this work, using a literature review, we propose to present, in general, what values are, their importance and what are, from the perspective of some authors, the environmental values, emphasizing the history of environmental ethics and how ecosystem services can play an important role in terms of environmental values. This paper aims to investigate the Compós' WG papers: Epistemology of Communication and Communication and Cyberculture. The objective is to test the hypothesis that the field of communication in Brazil is still not very sensitive to neomaterialists theories, and that approaches to objects and to the field as a whole are developed under an anthropocentric perspective. 60 papers were analyzed. The data show that among the 37 texts with evident epistemological position, 62% are anthropocentric, and 13% non-anthropocentric, 50% are in Communication and Cyberculture WG, and 71% in Epistemology of Communication WG. Due to the non-probabilistic approach used in this investigation, we cannot generalize the findings. However, the results support our hypothesis, pointing out that although it is rising, anthropocentric perspectives still predominate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Social Work exists beyond the palliative nature of intervention in an unequal society subdued to the imminent risk of systemic crises, assuming a mobilizing strategy around the participation and emancipatory and inclusive social change of the individual and communities, contributing to a culture of solidarity, cooperation and promotion of sustainable economies and projects that guarantee the defense of the ecosystems in which it intervenes. The possibility of existing ecosocial interventions aimed to change, preparing people, and inviting them to participate in this same transformation, represents the fulfillment of an ethical principle of Social Work. The profession's commitment to the sustainability of the environment and the communities, promoting a holistic intervention, integrating environmental, social and economic dimensions, led us to the analysis of ten European codes of Ethics and Deontology of professional associations that are members of the International Federation of Social Workers. The school is a collective and democratic space that needs to work values, as well as disciplinary contents, with children and young people in relation to citizenship and environmental awareness. Thus, several documents and books are indicated and adopted in the school as materials that aim to guide values. In this study, we will argue about the importance of working with the Carta da Terra, a document approved by UNESCO in Paris in March 2000, as a strategic tool to help children, from the initial series , understand the complexity of planet Earth and that can value the collective, citizenship and human solidarity.

TRANSGENIC plants , *ENZYMES , *ETHICS , *ENVIRONMENTAL ethics , *SINGERS , *CONCEPTS - Abstract
This article aims to analyze socio-environmental ethics in the technological age from its modern roots. Based on the theoretical framework centered on modern and contemporary thinkers, reflections on the concepts alluding to socio-environmental ethics were used, based on an interdisciplinary approach. In this context, the origins of a technological thought and its implications in relation to nature and man himself were discussed. Finally, some ethical questions related to the production of transgenic plants will be analyzed, in favor of an ecologically balanced environment for present and future generations. Among the main authors used to deepen the issues pertaining to Socio-Environmental Ethics and its modern origins are: Rousseau (1754), Condorcet (1993); Larrère and Larrère (1997); Jonas (2006); Singer (2006); Vázquez (2010); Parizeau (2007); Leopold (1949). Regarding the ethical reflections related to the release of transgenic plants into the environment, works by authors such as: Lacey (2006a, 2008, 2010) and Ferment (2015) were analyzed. This article intends to examine from an interdisciplinary point of view, the ethical and technological issues involved in the use and access to water resources, in the region of Baixo São Francisco in Sergipe, specifically around its mouth, located in the municipality of Brejo Grande. In this article, the use of water mainly with regard to shrimp farming practiced predatory on the banks of the river, which suppresses all existing vegetation and kills native aquatic species through fertilizers and chemicals used in this process, harming riverside populations. The reflections presented here are elaborated in the light of ancient and current theories, which examined and continue to examine water as a common good of universal value and vital element indispensable to the life of all species. MODERN philosophy , *MODERN society , *ENVIRONMENTAL education , *ETHICS education , *EDUCATION ethics , *ENVIRONMENTAL ethics - Abstract
This article aims to investigate the general contours of the environmental crisis triggered by the advance of man's domination over nature, based on the basic premises of modern philosophy. The environmental crisis is understood by environmental ethics as the result of the predatory action of modern societies, mediated by the technique and the appropriation of natural goods. In this context of civilizational crisis, ethics and environmental education must contribute to the formation of ecological awareness, which is essential for the preservation of the conditions necessary for the maintenance of life. HOLY Spirit , *HUMAN behavior , *HUMAN beings , *SPIRIT , *ANALOGY , *ENVIRONMENTAL responsibility , *ENVIRONMENTAL ethics , *DEHUMANIZATION - Abstract
This article aims to analyze the kenosis of the Holy Spirit as a Christian faith's key to understanding the creation of the world according to Sergei Bulgakov's thought. The article highlights the soteriological relevance of the Holy Spirit who, in joint action with the Son, divinizes man and the world. The kenosis of the Spirit extends from the creation of the world as it hovered over the waters, through the Transfiguration up to the eschatological consummation of creations as a new heaven and a new earth. In this kenosis the Spirit dwells on the creature and acts on the human condition that is marked by history and fragility The article emphasizes that it is possible to speak of the kenosis of the Holy Spirit only through an analogy with the kenosis of the Son. In the latter, divine nature has united itself with human nature and has taken it under the shadow of its strength and power. Finally, the article concludes that under the influence of the Holy Spirit who creates and recreates, human beings are challenged to revive an intuition of the original Paradise, one that orients creatures towards an ecological ethic of responsibility aimed at safeguarding creation. The aim of this paper is to assess whether Kant’s moral theory is suitable to deal with our obligations to take care of nonhuman animals and the environment. Kant’s ethics distinguishes persons, that is, rational beings with unconditional values who are considered as ends in themselves, from things, which have only relative worth. In relation to nature as a whole and to nonrational beings, Kant argues that we have only indirect duties or duties with regard to them. According to some philosophers, Kant’s ethics has anthropocentric starting points which lead to speciesist conclusions. This paper will argue that indirect duties can be in accordance with nonhuman interests, such as the suffering of nonhuman animals, the preservation of species and ecosystems, and so on. Thus Kant’s moral philosophy may contribute to environmental ethics because it justifies at least animal welfare and environmental protections as constraints on unrestricted human action.

Environmental Ethics ,Speciesism ,Sustainable Territorial Development ,Human ecology. Anthropogeography ,GF1-900 - Abstract
Abstract The article proposes ways to relate discussions held at the field of Environmental Ethics with analysis about the Sustainable Territorial Development. For this, a summary discussion of this field is presented, emphasizing the category of Speciesism and the problem of moral consideration of animals. This approach aims to show the heuristic potential that this category have to analyse patterns of territorial development supported by livestock. From an empirical point of view, the article analyses data from the meat industry in Santa Catarina, from which the notion of Intensive Speciesism Regions (ISR) is outlined. They constitute territories that show Speciesism disproportionately intense in their development patterns, result of a socio-political, economic and symbolic process that combines radical moral disregard of animals with unrighteousness among humans.

SCIENTIFIC literature , *ENVIRONMENTAL education , *PRIMARY audience , *EDUCATORS , *QUALITY of life , *ENVIRONMENTAL ethics , *BIOETHICS - Abstract
Environmental Education and Environmental Bioethics have the life as a common value and they understand that it is necessary to educate citizens so that caring for nature could be a shared project. Education demands efficient and noiseless communication, a challenge when it comes to promoting the dialogue among disparate moral agents. Thus, we questioned how the use of educational instruments has been approached in the scientific literature. For this reason, an integrative review was carried out using Google Academic and Capes portal. In total, it was recovered 1525 scientific articles and 64 apps. The use of intervention or evaluation instruments were present in 5.6% of the articles, indicating the preferential use of questionnaires with a qualitative analysis. In the excerpt allowed by the research, it was possible to attest the low use of tools, mainly the ones associated with technology. The importance of developing tools to diagnose the target audience and monitor the education process is critical to the success of interventions. Thus, we see the synergy of Environmental Education and Environmental Bioethics in the construction of tools that enable the improvement of educators, educational practices and the construction of citizens who are responsible for the quality of all life forms. The work covers an introit study about the philosophical-political analysis of the contributions of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, mainly with respect to the ideals preached by the good savage in his jusnaturalist theory. Persuant to, enter the environmental tragedy of Mariana, with the aim of illustrating the discourse of the origin of inequality between men and the way in which the unbridled growth of power by power, without thinking about the challenges faced by the preservation (prevention and precaution) of the environment. The methodology used for this purpose is aimed at ensuring the interdisciplinarity of Political Philosophy and Environmental Law, betake to bibliographic research in books, articles, legislation to solve the problem in relation, which is, if there is a condition of environmental equilibrium before the degeneration of the good savage and the expansion of the discourse of inequality by virtue of unscrupulous economic power. It was concluded that. civil liability for damages will not be sufficient, as it results from the disregard of the environmental principles of prevention and precaution. Philosophy has left the legacy of alerting and preventing the indispensable attention to the paper of nature in the life of all living beings. The Rousseaunian premises evoked reveal that the environment collides with the exaggerations of a society stubbornly against business profits to the detriment of fundamental interests. The paper proposes an inter-relationship between environmental ethics and critical reflection on the development process, having as focus the analysis of conflicts between value systems that underlie the environmental conflicts affecting traditional communities. It results from a theoretical reflection based on the work carried out under the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Development and the Environment. In this analysis, we highlight the implications of the use of nature as practiced in traditional ways of life to build an ecological ethics that reconciles social equity and expansion of moral consideration beyond humans. It is argued that the identification of these implications would help on the formulation of argumentative strategies to enhance the recognition of the territorial rights of these people and, at the same time, contribute to the formulation of social and environmental sustainability conceptions that advocate uses of nature compatible with its moral consideration, that is, nature uses not held by exclusively instrumental perspectives. The article brings together elements of political ecology, environmental justice and environmental ethics linking them to the field of environmental sociology and the sociology of development.
