The growing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the management of civil and social life as well as in economic and political organization has led to a debate on AI involved in various scientific, philosophical, legal and moral questions, including cultural ones. In this paper, after a brief presentation of the application of AI in art and culture, we focus on art production using AI and the digital reproduction of art which temporally precedes that of AI-generated art. The very idea of artistic beauty emanating from works of art produced with AI is consequently questioned, giving rise to a new creativity that is to be added to the human creativity of an artist's products. Lastly, the possibility is raised that specific generative algorithms may contribute to the resolution of the topical debate on the issue of attribution and authentication of works of art.

Considering the current and future therapeutic options that are or will be available in the adjuvant treatment of breast cancer, this document reports on the insights from two multi-regional expert meetings aimed at investigating possible problems of access to the treatment pathway involving the BRCA (BReast CAncer) test. The experts stated that the update of the AIOM guidelines (diagnostic and therapeutic innovations) will require a correction of clinicians’ behaviors and a partial reorganization of the current Integrated Care Pathways (ICPs). From this point of view, the update of the AIOM GLs could supply to Regions and, above all, to all cancer networks a valid rationale for starting a process of harmonization of ICPs aimed at guaranteeing the rapid access to treatments by improving the quality of the service provided by the National Health Service (SSN). To ensure to breast cancer patients a rapid access to the latest approved treatments, experts believe that it will be necessary to update the access pathway to genetic tests. This could lead to an increase in the use of genetic tests, creating one of the main organizational and economic challenge that regions and cancer networks will have to face.

In this issue of “Between,” we propose to bring into play the possibility of estrangement, or rather of estrangements - in the plural. Evoking estrangement means confronting otherness understood as that which destabilises us, sometimes radically, that which puts us in danger and prevents us from stopping in a space of reassuring mastery of the objects of our discourses. What we wanted to do here, however, is to try to project the critical potential of estrangement over a long range, identifying its ramifications, intersections, and convergences with other proposals, similar but not necessarily coincidental, and with objects of study with which it is not commonly made to react.

Dans les années 1960, Juan Rodolfo Wilcock a publié en italien sa propre trilogie des « perspectives dépravées » : Le stéréoscope des solitaires, La synagogue des iconoclastes, Le livre des monstres. Dans ces recueils de micro-récits la monstruosité est représentée comme un élément incontournable de la vie elle-même. L’article vise à examiner les caractéristiques récurrentes et les discontinuités identifiables dans l’invention des contre-hommes de Wilcock, en vue d’expliquer comment – pour reprendre les mots de Georges Canguilhem – « le monstrueux, concept initialement juridique, [a] été progressivement constitué en catégorie de l’imagination », et donc également en une dimension chimérique et illusoire de l’espace littéraire.

The present work – based on interdisciplinary scholarship – examines a set of factors underlying the civil war (1988-1998) on the island of Bougainville, an autonomous region of PNG (Papua New Guinea). Adopting a historical-anthropological lens and starting from the effects of colonization and the mining industry, the research investigates the disruptive effects of capitalist exploitation on traditional Melanesian and Bougainville societies, as well as the outbreak of the conflict. Moreover, the article deals with some aspects of the resistance by the BRA (Bougainville Revolutionary Army) «eco-rebels», the struggle for the land, the redistributive claims of indigenous groups over mining industry’s profits and the complaints about the environmental disaster caused by the activities at Panguna copper mine. Finally, recent events and the political situation in Bougainville are taken into account in order to predict future developments following the 2019 referendum on independence. This study focuses on local communities, i.e. subaltern groups fighting against powerful national and international, political and economic actors.

Vedere le cose come se si vedessero per la prima volta: potrebbe essere questa la possibilità che si apre nel momento in cui adottiamo uno sguardo a distanza, operiamo uno straniamento, uno spaesamento. «Tutti siamo spaesati rispetto a qualcosa e a qualcuno», ha scritto Carlo Ginzburg, nell’invitarci a riflettere sulle potenzialità cognitive ed etiche che si aprono a uno sguardo straniato. A partire dalla recente riedizione del suo saggio fondamentale sulla distanza, Occhiacci di legno, Carlo Ginzburg viene intervistato da Sergia Adamo, in dialogo con Gian Paolo Gri, antropologo e studioso di saperi che intrecciano cultura materiale e valori simbolici nel rapporto fra tradizione e modernità. Occhiacci di legno, già pubblicato nel 1998 e anche nel 2011, è stato ripubblicato nel 2019 e porta come sottotitolo Dieci riflessioni sulla distanza, perché aggiunge una decima riflessione rispetto alle nove precedenti, in cui Ginzburg risponde ad alcune obiezioni che un ipotetico «avvocato del diavolo» avrebbe potuto fargli. L’intervista è stata realizzata a Udine, il 3 luglio 2021, all’interno del festival Vicino/lontano. Il video dell’intervista si può trovare su Youtube. L’evento è stato organizzato in collaborazione con il gruppo di ricerca Straniamenti del Dipartimento di Studi umanistici dell’Università di Trieste.

Il saggio segue Anedda nel suo dialogo traduttorio con la poesia e la pittura. I testi presi in esame sono La parola Russia di Jaccottet e tre poesie di Mandel’štam, (tradotte in francese da Jaccottet e in italiano da Anedda) e la sua La vita dei dettagli. Anedda si sofferma sui dettagli, capaci di diventare mondi e possibilità altre. I dettagli si slegano dal loro contesto/cotesto e assumono vita propria sconcertando il lettore. Il linguaggio di Anedda tende alla cancellazione dell’io e alla ritrazione nella sfida alla barriera di una lingua che non può dire l’ineffabile.

In maniera esemplare il titolo e il sottotitolo dell’ultimo saggio di Alberto Casadei sintetizzano, rispettivamente, la questione critica ed epistemologica centrale al volume e le soluzioni proposte dall’autore. Nel primo caso si tratta della necessità, ineludibile nel mondo contemporaneo, di far dialogare le scoperte scientifiche con il patrimonio artistico-letterario, e dunque, in conseguenza, di non scorporare l’orizzonte naturale dalla dimensione culturale.

As páginas seguintes visam refletir sobre a possibilidade de uma abertura entre os âmbitos dos saberes envolvidos na indagação da realidade humana a partir da virada fenomenológica nas neurociências cognitivas contemporâneas. No que tange à especificidade da compreensão filosófica do homem, trata-se, por um lado, de determinar em que medida as novas evidências empíricas abalam o aparelho conceitual tradicional da própria filosofia e, por outro lado, apontar uma possível modalidade de fundamentação de um saber do homem voltado para um estudo da totalidade das dimensões que lhe pertencem. Focando a atenção sobre a adquirida centralidade do fenômeno da consciência no contexto das neurociências cognitivas, tentar-se-á apresentar e justificar o novo papel que o método fenomenológico pode desempenhar em relação à análise do “sujeito da percepção” pela tematização do que está implicado naquela complexidade estrutural denominada “subjetividade” que remete à “dimensão pessoal” do nosso ser.

La poetica di F. Schlegel ha realizzato una storicizzazione della teoria dei generi letterari sostituendo alla dicotomia del classicismo tra forma e contenuto una distinzione tra forma e spirito, secondo cui i materiali linguistico-tematici rappresentano i precipitati di quest’ultimo. Riprendendo questa intuizione di P. Szondi, potremmo affermare che, nella modernità letteraria, l’ibridazione è il processo di transizione dei materiali attraverso le forme. Un’opera tanto esemplare quanto strutturalmente rilevante, nell’orizzonte dell’ibridazione, è Einbahnstraße di Walter Benjamin, dove i materiali più disparati sono combinati a modellare una forma innovativa. Vi si mescolano stilemi della poesia in prosa, narrazione diaristica, (anti)metodo surrealista, satira e intuizioni filosofiche. L’unicità, d’altra parte, risiede innanzitutto nell’essenza metacritica del procedimento organizzativo del libro: il frammentismo sistematico è un’applicazione pratica della teoria allegorica del montaggio, descritta nell’Ursprung des deutschen Trauerspiels. Il saggio si propone di leggere il testo come «un taccuino a forma di strada», anche per indagarne il valore di prologo al Passagenwerk, nato dall’avida lettura del Paysan de Paris di Aragon: istituisce un confronto per rilevare, nell’affinità di fondo, la diversità di approccio tra il pensatore tedesco e il surrealismo, distinguendo tecniche di assemblaggio e ruolo dell’immaginario nell’uso di pubblicità e altri oggetti metropolitani. L’intenzione di una simile analisi di Einbahnstraße è dimostrare che Benjamin combina modelli letterari (Baudelaire, Proust, Kraus su tutti) con i nuovi linguaggi artistici e le strategie discorsive della stampa per creare un’«immagine dialettica» dell’esistenza nel XX secolo.Friedrich Schlegel’s poetics realized a historicisation of literary genres theory by replacing classicist dichotomy between form and content with a distinction of form and mind. Linguistic and thematic materials in literature comes from mind itself, according to Peter Szondi. Therefore, one could maintain that in modern literature hybridization is the crossing process of materials through forms. In this regard, Walter Benjamin’s One-Way Street is a remarkable work, as the most oddly assorted materials are combined in order to shape an innovative form. Prose poetry, diary, (anti)surrealistic method, satire, philosophical intuitions are merged into it. On the other hand, his uniqueness lies first on the meta-critical gist of the book’s structure: the ystematic use of fragments is a practical application of the allegorical assembly theory, as described in The Origin of German Tragic Drama. Therefore, the present essay aims to read the text as «a street-shaped notebook», reflecting on how it can be considered a prologue to The Arcades Project, originated by the reading of Aragon’s Paris Peasant. The comparison established in the following pages between the German thinker and the Surrealism tries to detect, despite a substantial affinity, two different approaches in the use of assemblage techniques (especially about the attitude towards advertising). Analysing One-Way Street this way shows how Benjamin combines literary models (Baudelaire, Proust, Kraus) with new artistic languages and press strategies in order to create a «dialectical image» of the 20thcentury.
