Cardiovascular disease such as myocardial infarction is one of the chief reasons for death universally. An extensive variety of natural and synthetic biodegradable polymers have been studied lately for cardiac tissue engineering applications. Cardiac tissue regeneration is a substitute approach for in situ cellular cardiomyoplasties, which is considered to renovate infarcted myocardium utilizing cells, scaffold, and growth factors. Polymer-based scaffolds including graphene and carbon nanotubes can be employed for heart tissue engineering. In this review, we consider the literature in terms of cardiac tissue engineering and discuss the most recent developments in terms of scaffold-based polymers for cardiac tissue regeneration.
