- Abstract
For graphs H 1 and H 2 , the Ramsey number r (H 1 , H 2) is the smallest positive integer N such that any graph G on N vertices contains H 1 as a subgraph, or its complement contains H 2 as a subgraph. Let B n (k) denote the book graph on n + k vertices which consists of n copies of K k + 1 all sharing a common K k , and let H : = K p (a 1 , ⋯ , a p) be the complete p-partite graph with parts of sizes a 1 , ⋯ , a p . Recently, strengthening a result of Fox, He and Wigderson (Adv. Combin. 4 (2023), 21pp), Fan and Lin (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 199 (2023), 19pp) showed that for every k , p , t ≥ 2 , there exists δ > 0 such that the following holds for all large n. Let 1 ≤ a 1 ≤ ⋯ ≤ a p - 1 ≤ t and a p ≤ δ n be positive integers. If a 1 = 1 , then r (H , B n (k)) ≤ (p - 1) (n + k a 2 - 1) + 1 . The inequality is tight if n ≡ 1 (mod a 2) . In this paper, we improve the above upper bounds for the cases when n ≡ 2 (mod a 2) and n ≡ 3 (mod a 2) . Combining the new upper bounds and constructions of the lower bounds for these cases, we are able to determine the exact values of r (K p (a 1 , ⋯ , a p) , B n (k)) when p = 3 . The bound on 1 / δ we obtain is not of tower-type since our proof does not rely on the regularity lemma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Negative transformations associated with the culture of reading in the 21st century are generally recognized. First of all, and not without reason, the reader of fi ction comes into the fi eld of vision of philologists and teachers. The goal of the article is to analyze the modern range of meanings of the concept “reader” against the backdrop of the established reader’s image in the collective (proverbial) folk memory. The author is interested in the problem of institutionalization of the Russian reader. The question to what extent the dynamic typology of the Russian reader of the fi rst third of the 19th century, proposed by V. G. Belinsky in his series of articles “The Works of Alexander Pushkin”, reveals the universality of its foundations and can help in understanding the processes occurring with the reader and the reading of fi ction at present, deserves close attention. In the history of the reader’s perception of the art of the word, there is a moving balance and conflict of stubbornly inertial and assertively proactive principles. Respected followers of established, habitual aesthetic values and supporters of new forms and new content in verbal art have become unfailing participants of social and artistic life. They are most often obediently heeded by the overwhelming majority of traditionalists and fashion followers. Nowadays, readers of different ages and different aesthetic backgrounds are actively exploring the network space with its huge hypertext and interactive capabilities. The semantic range of the concept “reader” is enriched with new meanings: a reader of fi ction – a regular user of the Internet; an active reader longing for critical and analytical self-realization; a reader trying to entrust his or her immediate impressions of what he or she has read to the public space; a reader who has taken up writing his or her own poetic and prose texts and is patiently awaiting responses to them. Runet, in its own way, brings back to life the collective notions of the “reading public” and “mass reader”, familiar for the past epochs.

The aim of the article is to analyse trends in the field of digital management of graphic archives in the context of the rapidly changing information environment, to consider issues of data security and accessibility. To raise the issue of popularising the study of the bookplate as an independent genre in the fine arts and as a historical document that attests to the era, events and people. The history of ex-libris goes back to ancient times, with the appearance of the text and its first owner. This history is multifaceted, diverse and touches on various aspects of the worldwide development of human culture. The development of bookplate collecting and the study of bookplates dates back to the Middle Ages, from which time we can trace the history of the transformation of the bookplate from a bookmark with a protective function to an independent art object and collector’s item. This paper examines several modern methods of organising and preserving an ex-libris collection, providing an overview of the key technologies involved in these processes, drawing on contemporary and historical research. The research results are primarily intended for use in the collections of the Pushkin Museum in Chișinău and are based on the largest ex-libris collection in the country, which includes over 15,000 items. The collection needs to be described, systematised and assigned in order to prepare it for further research and exhibitions.

- Abstract
Given two graphs G and H, the Ramsey number R(G,H) is the minimum integer N such that any two-coloring of the edges of K
N in red or blue yields a red G or a blue H. Let v(G) be the number of vertices of G and χ(G) be the chromatic number of G. Let s(G) denote the chromatic surplus of G, the number of vertices in a minimum color class among all proper χ(G)-colorings of G. Burr showed that R (G , H) ≥ (v (G) − 1) (χ (H) − 1) + s (H) if G is connected and v (G) ≥ s (H) . A connected graph G is H-good if R (G , H) = (v (G) − 1) (χ (H) − 1) + s (H) . Let tH denote the disjoint union of t copies of graph H, and let G ∨ H denote the join of G and H. Denote a complete graph on n vertices by Kn , and a tree on n vertices by Tn . Denote a book with n pages by Bn , i.e., the join K 2 ∨ K n ¯ . Erdős, Faudree, Rousseau and Schelp proved that Tn is Bm -good if n ≥ 3 m − 3 . In this paper, we obtain the exact Ramsey number of Tn versus 2B2 - Our result implies that Tn is 2B2 -good if n ≥ 5. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The article examines the presence of Dostoevsky’s books in the plot of the novels by Nathanael West, John Irving, and Philip Roth, in order to show how Dostoevsky was perceived by American writers and determined the specifics of the poetics and the transformation of constant motifs and images in modern American literature. It is proved that the use of Dostoevsky’s books as a stable motif introduces into these works an obligatory element of literary polemics for both the hero and the author. The main technique used by writers (parodying themes and images of Dostoevsky’s works) becomes the main way to rethink the existing tradition of perceiving the work of the Russian novelist.

Acquainting children with animals is a fundamental aspect of early childhood education. Children will learn animal characters, sounds and the type of food these animals eat. To support the learning process and develop understanding of this topic, a storytelling book was compiled about several characteristics of animals organized alphabetically by the animals' first names. The book being developed is also integrated with augmented reality, so that children can explore three-dimensional animal illustrations accompanied by the unique sounds of each animal they observe. The use of innovative technology-based learning media aims to ensure that the learning process also keeps pace with current developments. Additionally, the goal is to cultivate students' curiosity and enthusiasm for the topics being explored. The use of this learning media requires the assistance of parents or teachers. The development process involves stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research findings indicate students' interest in studying the characteristics of animals, as the learning books can present animal shapes in three dimensions accompanied by their corresponding sounds. This study aims to investigate the active tasks incorporated in Arabic language books for primary school students in Jordan. The focus was on the content, questions, and tasks within the books. A rubric consisting of 34 tasks and applications was used for data collection By utilizing a descriptive analytical approach, content analysis was executed using sentences and paragraphs as units of analysis. The results demonstrate that Arabic language books for 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students contain 28 linguistic tasks and questions. Of these, 14 tasks are found within the paragraphs of the text, with a concentration rate of less than 1%. Meanwhile, 18 tasks are located within the questions, with a concentration rate of less than 3%. Conversation, dialogue, and description were identified as the most common types of tasks. It was also observed that there is a similarity between the paragraphs of the text and its questions concerning the total number of repetitions. The findings of this study bear significant implications for enhancing the development of active tasks in classrooms. They provide valuable insights for educational decision-makers about the quality of tasks within Arabic language books for primary students. Moreover, they pave the way for improving student skills in critical reading, creative writing, dialogue communication, reading, and drawing by promoting interactive teaching strategies that cater to the developmental needs of students. As a result, the study proposes several recommendations for enhancing these active tasks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of this study is to compare the effects of self-help psychotherapy books based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approaches on anxiety and depressive symptoms, with those of a placebo psychology book and a control group receiving only antidepressant treatment. Method: The current study was conducted with 110 patients admitted to the psychiatric outpatient clinic, diagnosed with depressive disorder and anxiety disorder. The study utilized a book each from CBT, Schema Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and a placebo book. Participants' depressive symptoms were evaluated using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and their anxiety symptoms with the Beck Anxiety Inventory, both before and after the intervention. Results: The median age of participants was 34.71±10.40, and 80% were female. The difference in BDI decrease between books was found to be statistically significant as a result of a mixed design Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Although the difference in depression scores between the books was not statistically significant according to time in post hoc analyses, when all groups with the books were considered, the difference in depression scores was statistically significant compared to the decrease seen in the group that received only antidepressant treatment, according to the planned contrast analysis. When the analysis was repeated, excluding the group receiving antidepressant treatment, similar results were found in the placebo book group. Conclusion: When compared to the placebo book group and the usual treatment group, self-help books written within the framework of CBT approaches are significantly effective in reducing depressive scores in patients diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder. Further research is needed to observe the long-term effects of these books. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The book, as one of the oldest forms of the written word, is at a turning point that is likely to play a major role in the further development of humanity. We are witnessing the transition of the book into an immaterial form and the transformation of the book. However, centuries and centuries have passed in which the book developed and evolved, so that today its physical and material form has slowly turned into an intangible one. The paper shows the development and evolution of the book from its origin to its metamorphosis into a completely different dimension.

Abstract Objectives: To describe and compare the references cited in popular books about diet and health between the USA and Japan. Design: Books were selected based on their best-seller rankings in the diet and health category of online bookstores. We identified references throughout all pages of the books and examined the number of references, reference format (identifiable or not) and presence of specific types of references, such as systematic reviews of human research. We compared the characteristics of references between the two countries and examined related factors to citation. Setting: Cross-sectional study. Participants: Books (n 100 in each country). Results: Among 100 books from each country, sixty-five US and sixty-six Japanese books had references. Forty-five US books cited more than 100 references, against only five Japanese books. The number of books that cited systematic reviews of human research differed between the USA (n 49) and Japan (n 9). Additionally, the number of books that provided identifiable information for all references was significantly higher in the USA (n 63) than in Japan (n 42). Books whose first authors have licences of medical doctors were more likely to cite references than those without in both countries. Conclusions: Two-thirds of books about diet and health cited references in both the USA and Japan, but Japanese books cited fewer references and were less likely to cite systematic reviews and provide identifiable references than US books. Further research into the scientific reliability of information in books about diet and health is warranted.

This essay takes readers on something of a journey. It opens by showing how, when it comes to the creative arts in the UK, it is upper- and middle-class, privately educated, Oxbridge graduates who receive the bulk of the available financial support. It proceeds by arguing that their shared experience of private school and Oxbridge is a major reason so much of culture in England, and the university within it, is rather safe, homogenous and anti-intellectual, not to mention white, male and liberal humanist. At the same time, it maintains that it is not enough to change who is contributing to culture and the production of knowledge, and what they are being conditioned to write and publish about; what's also needed is a change in how they are doing so. It ends by indicating some of the ways in which we can use new media and radical open access publishing to reinvent our (Euro-Western, modernist, middle-class, white, male) liberal humanist modes of being as writers and researchers. - Abstract
In this article, the authors set out to study the behaviour of book consumers in Bucharest. The decision problem is represented by the major changes in the book market, which have led to a decrease in demand for books in physical format, largely influenced by digitalization and the economic crisis. The quantitative-descriptive research was conducted online, on a sample of 224 respondents. The instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of closed, open, dichotomous and multichotomous questions. The results of the study show that although Romanians are book lovers, book purchase is ranked last on the list of consumer priorities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Beginning with a reconstruction of the anthropological paradigms underlying The Vienna Manifesto and The Onlife Manifesto (§ 1.1), this paper distinguishes between two possible approaches to digital humanism: an extroverted one, principally engaged in finding a way to humanize digital technologies, and an introverted one, pointing instead attention to how digital technologies can re-humanize us, particularly our “mindframe” (§ 1.2). On this basis, I stress that if we take seriously the consequences of the “mediatic turn”, according to which human reason is finally recognized as mediatically contingent (§ 2.1), then we should accept that just as the book created the poietic context for the development of traditional humanism and its “bookish” idea of private and public reason, so too digital psycho-technologies today provide the conditions for the rise of a new humanism (§ 2.2). I then discuss the possible humanizing potential of digital simulated worlds: I compare the symbolic-reconstructive mindset to the sensorimotor mindset (§ 3.1), and I highlight their respective mediological association with the book and the video game, advocating for the peculiar thinking and reasoning affordances now offered by the new digital psycho-technologies (§ 3.2).

The purpose of the study is to find out the number of medical terms found in the book End of Days and to know the lexical meaning of medical terms found in the book End of Days. The method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative research method. Based on the analysis, the researcher found there are 220 medical terms found in the book End of Days Chapter VII with the sub-theme The End of Days through My Eyes. There are medical terms that show the name of diseases or disorders, the name of the place, part of the body, and other related medical terminology. The writer also translates the lexical meaning by using Dictionary of Medical Terms by Peter Collin and Dictionary of Medical Acronyms and Abbreviations by Stanley Jablonski to translate the acronyms and abbreviations of the medical term in the English book of The End of Days. There are many acronyms found in the book. Based on the results of the analysis of lexical meaning, the researcher concludes that the book has a variety of uniqueness in the content because the writers Sylvia Browne with co-writer Lindsay Harrison include medical terms in the book.

Bibliotherapy, as an interdisciplinary field, is undeniably heavily researched on a global scale, yet there are relatively few studies, especially empirical ones, devoted exclusively to the problems of public libraries, while those that would focus only on the services provided by librarians themselves, excluding cooperation with specialists in the field of health promotion, have been undetected at all. The concept, typology, methodology of bibliotherapy and specialists, who can provide services in this field, especially the scope of librarians’ possibilities, are still being discussed in multidirectional works of bibliotherapy. The article presents the results of a quantitative empirical study based on the synthesis of multidisciplinary bibliotherapy research, which allowed to determine the librarians’ own possibilities to provide bibliotherapy services, revealing the state of bibliotherapy services provision in Lithuanian public libraries in 2022. In addition, the article provides a comparative analysis of this study and secondary sources, which showed the evolution and development possibilities of the provision of bibliotherapy services in Lithuanian public libraries. It was found that in most libraries, at least one bibliotherapy service is provided by their own staff. Out of them, slightly more than twice (both qualitatively and quantitatively) of services are attributable to passive bibliotherapy, exclusively covering an intrapersonal level of communication, based on recommendations of books to be read, which is traditionally more characteristic of these institutions, rather than those to be associated with its active variety, which includes an individual interaction of a reader with a librarian inspired by the read book, or a group one - with the members of the book club led by them that integrates an interpersonal level of communication as well. However, as shown by the comparative analysis of the results of the quantitative research of the same object of 2022 and 2011, the active bibliotherapy, which promotes the interaction of readers, is also becoming popular in Lithuania as the functions of libraries expand in the direction of socialization. This is largely in line with global trends. Summarizing the data of the latest research presented in the article and previous secondary sources, it can be stated that in the early 21st century, library bibliotherapy began to be developed at the formal level, and after the development breakthrough recorded at the turn of the first and second decades it has already established itself as a service provided by Lithuanian public libraries. The librarians’ attitudes towards it are positive, the motivation to expand the range or scope of bibliotherapy services is increasing. Although librarians both independently and institutionally, usually through projects or occasional trainings deepen their knowledge in this field, yet its lack is still mentioned, and in particular, the lack of practical skills necessary for organizing more formal active bibliotherapy activities, which leads to a lack of confidence in their own abilities and induces them to limit themselves to the role of an event organizer with a guest lecturer. As one of the ways to solve this problem, long-term institutionalized training in bibliotherapy is mentioned. It is available to those who want to improve in this field and to expand library bibliotherapy services, which help to implement the traditional functions of book repositories and reading promotion and more advanced, globally relevant functions of community gathering and reader education.

Archaeology as Festival reports on the 2020 annual conference of the Contemporary and Historical Archaeology Theory group. It contains fifteen contributions and includes papers reporting on public stairways in Pittsburgh, toilet graffiti in Lisbon, and a kitchen wall in the Netherlands. With case studies like these one might doubt the relevance of the contents to the EXARC community, but there is much more to this fascinating volume than historical record, and its importance here, stems less from the detail of the subject matter and more from the circumstances in which it was produced.

Writing a book on a primitive technology in today’s fast-paced society, fueled by the internet and instant gratification by observing a skill through video, is a risky endeavor. Adding to this risk is the fact that there are many books about brain tanning already on the market. Two of these are classics of the two most common methods; Jim Riggs, “Blue Mountain Buckskin” (dry –scrape method) and Matt Richards, “Deerskins into Buckskins” (wet- scrape method), which are regarded by most as recommended reading for a hide tanning course. Despite these risks, Markus Klek rose to the challenge and wrote an excellent book about leather tanning.

In a number of works of art, I have taken an interest in insects, bookworms that eat books, electronics as anatomy and clever robots whose actions in a way resemble the apparently primitive abilities of insects. This text has its starting point in two works of art, Eaten Books and Atlas of AInsects. In the artworks, I am interested in insect anatomy and insects as symbols of decay, survival, extinction, death and post humanity. The text is originally from an artistic lecture about my work with insects and coding, and is based on a reading from within the computer program Eaten Books. A performance where the software is letting insects erase the text. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Lebanon, the methods of teaching employed are mostly conventional. Teachers spend a lot of time giving lessons and homework to students, as well as reading assignments and correcting exercises completed in class. Students usually play a passive role in the education process; they listen calmly, occasionally question what is presented, and copy texts and information dictated by the teacher. Textbooks are the major source of instruction, yet many Lebanese schools have partially introduced electronic devices, and have discreetly started to rely on them. Given the reported discrepancies between textbooks and tablets learning, it was essential to conduct a Lebanese study that compares both entities. To assess the influence of textbooks and tablets on cognition and attention, it was also necessary to consider the schooling age that is critical for understanding the human brain and cognition. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the association between of tablet vs. book learning on memory, attention, and learning abilities among Lebanese children. This cross-sectional study, conducted between January-May 2019, enrolled 566 students aged of 11–13 years. Two schools were chosen conveniently for this study, one of them uses the Tablet and text books for students' learning whereas the second one uses text books exclusively. Students were randomly chosen from the list given by the school administration. Textbook learning was significantly associated with better episodic and visual memory, better attention, processing speed and mathematic skills compared to tablets and textbook learning. Learning is evolving to another level and forever changing. Many studies should be conducted in order to understand the importance of merging new and old techniques to ensure that the next generations are receiving what can positively affect their cognitive skills and their performance. It is possible for book illustrators to employ themselves, but it takes hard work, dedication, skill and professionalism on the part of the employees. This research basically aims at finding the ways and means by which illustrators can gain themselves a decent living from the profession in Ghana today. The opportunities are enormous and one can work hard to win awards. A profile of some selected illustrators can serve as an example to prospective self-employed illustrators. Response got. From discussions with certain publishing houses is relevant source of material for book illustrators in Ghana today. Upon consulting Art Directors it should be possible to secure employment if one is a good artist. Illustrators should be able to identify the media normally required by fishers and the type of books that need to be illustrated, how their works sell the rate at which they are commissioned, why Ghanaian books need and what they should do in order to gain employment. The earliest forms of illustration were prehistoric cave paintings. Before the invention of the printing press, illuminated manuscripts were hand illustrated. During the 15
th century, books illustrated with woodcut illustrations became available. The main processes used for reproduction of illustrations during the 16th and 17th centuries were engraving and etching. Traditionally, engravers created darker areas by having thin lines intersect each other at high density, known as cross- hatching. One can specialize as book illustrator, fashion illustrator, freelance illustrator, medical illustrator, and map illustrator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

JUDGES , *DELEGATION of authority , *MIDDLE Ages - Abstract
In spite of the variety and multitude of judicial authorities, a survey of the judicial insignia in continental Europe between the High Middle Ages and 18th century reveals a surprising uniformity and constancy both in the particular as well as the ius commune legal tradition. The sword of Justice, the Rod of Justice, the Judge's chair, his robes and book figure prominently in the medieval illuminations. Insignia formed the identity of the judge and served as a reminder of his transpersonal character: the judicial authority was hence represented through the display of the inisignia. The aim of the article is to defend the proposition that the exterior signs of delegated judicial authority in pre-codification continental Europe manifested themselves in a rather consistent appearance because they reflected a common idea of a delegation of judicial authority, which was to be accompanied by the visual transfer of materialised symbols.
