BackgroundBreast cancer, one of the most prevalent malignancies among women worldwide, has rising incidence rates. Physical activity, particularly exercise, has emerged as a significant modifier of cancer prognosis, influencing both tumor biology and patient outcomes.MethodsIn this study, we utilized a murine breast cancer model, dividing mice into a control group and an exercise group; the latter underwent 21 days of voluntary running. We conducted RNA sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, pan-cancer analysis, and cellular experiments to investigate the underlying mechanisms influenced by exercise.ResultsExercise led to a significant reduction in tumor size and weight. Post-exercise mRNA sequencing indicated a notable upregulation of THSD7B in the exercised mice, with significant alterations observed in pathways such as MicroRNAs in cancers and the Calcium signaling pathway. In a broader cancer context, THSD7B showed considerable expression variability, being significantly downregulated in several cancers, correlating with positive prognostic outcomes in PRAD, LAML, KIRC, and GBM and highlighting its potential role as a prognostic marker and therapeutic target. THSD7B expression was also negatively associated with processes of breast cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion.ConclusionThis study underscores the dual role of exercise in modulating gene expression relevant to tumor growth and highlights the potential of THSD7B as a therapeutic target in cancer. Future research should further explore the specific mechanisms by which exercise and THSD7B influence cancer progression and develop immunotherapy-enhanced strategies to change patient outcomes in clinical settings.

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) starts mainly with colorectal surgery and has been shown to improve clinical outcomes and cost savings in almost all major surgical specialties during the implementation and development for more than two decades. On the basis of improving medical quality and perioperative safety strengthened by ERAS, we propose the concept of fastest recovery after surgery (FRAS) and bring it into clinical practice to achieve fastest recovery for patients undergoing elective major gastrointestinal surgery. In this article, we introduce the definition, superiorities, perioperative protocol, and future directions with regard to the practice of FRAS in gastrointestinal surgery.

Abstract Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is the causative agent of Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) and multiple types of B cell malignancies. Emerging evidence demonstrates that KSHV reprograms host-cell central carbon metabolic pathways, which contributes to viral persistence and tumorigenesis. However, the mechanisms underlying KSHV-mediated metabolic reprogramming remain poorly understood. Carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase 2, aspartate transcarbamoylase, and dihydroorotase (CAD) is a key enzyme of the de novo pyrimidine synthesis, and was recently identified to deamidate the NF-κB subunit RelA to promote aerobic glycolysis and cell proliferation. Here we report that KSHV infection exploits CAD for nucleotide synthesis and glycolysis. Mechanistically, KSHV vCyclin binds to and hijacks cyclin-dependent kinase CDK6 to phosphorylate Ser-1900 on CAD, thereby activating CAD-mediated pyrimidine synthesis and RelA-deamidation-mediated glycolytic reprogramming. Correspondingly, genetic depletion or pharmacological inhibition of CDK6 and CAD potently impeded KSHV lytic replication and thwarted tumorigenesis of primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) cells in vitro and in vivo. Altogether, our work defines a viral metabolic reprogramming mechanism underpinning KSHV oncogenesis, which may spur the development of new strategies to treat KSHV-associated malignancies and other diseases.

In continuously cropped strawberry soil, a large population of the fungivorous nematode, Aphelenchus avenae, was observed to increase significantly over time. This nematode, which feeds on pathogenic fungi affecting strawberries, has significant potential as a biocontrol agent. The purpose of this article is to discuss the nematode’s preference for fungi associated with strawberries and its impact on the growth of strawberry roots. With the exception of Trichoderma harzianum, most of the pathogenic fungi commonly found in strawberry soil, such as Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani, Verticillium, Phytophthora infestans, and Botrytis cinerea Pers. attracted A. avenae and supported their propagation. All treatments with A. avenae and the non-nematode control showed a consistent trend throughout strawberry development, indicating that a moderate amount of A. avenae does not adversely affect strawberry roots. Moderate and low levels of A. avenae significantly increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and peroxidase (POD) in strawberry roots in all treatments during the entire growth stages. Also, the malondialdehyde (MDA) content of strawberry roots in all nematode treatments was lower than that in the no-nematode control. Despite an overabundance of A. avenae, which negatively affected the redox system balance of strawberry roots, A. avenae can protect the roots from pathogenic fungi by preventing infection and damage. These results lay the foundation for the potential use of A. avenae as a biological agent to control these pathogenic fungi in strawberry soil, in combination with the biological fungi (T. harzianum).

Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) are potent microbial biocontrol agents applied commercially against various economically important insect pests. The efficacy of EPN in the field may be partially reduced when compared to chemical insecticides due to its sensitivity to environmental stressors like temperature, desiccation, and UV light. Thus, researchers have developed methods to enhance the effectiveness of EPN, such as screening or breeding stress-resistant strains and creating adjuvants for EPN protection in the field. This study used another strategy to lower the host’s immunity so that the anti-infection ability of the pest wanes, and the virulence of EPN waxes accordingly. In addition to its use as a plant growth regulator, thiourea also functions as an inhibitor of polyphenol oxidase (PO) in insects. Thiourea can inhibit a key interaction in the humoral immunity of insects, so we utilized it to enhance the efficacy of EPN. To investigate the effects of thiourea on PO activity inhibition and EPN pathogenesis, we studied the effects of thiourea on survival, infectivity, reproduction, and host searching ability of the EPN, Heterorhabditis beicherriana, and monitored in vivo and in vitro polyphenol oxidase activity of the model insect host, Galleria mellonella. The survival of H. beicherriana infective juveniles (IJs) was barely affected after exposure to 0.5 mM and 1 mM thiourea solution, and the reproductive output of H. beicherriana IJs (after applying 50, 100 and 200 IJs per host) in 0.5 mM and 1 mM thiourea was not different compared to the control. However, the LD50 of G. mellonella larvae caused by H. beicherriana without thiourea was significantly higher than H. beicherriana IJs in thiourea. Moreover, thiourea inhibited in vivo and in vitro polyphenol oxidase activity of G. mellonella infected by EPNs at different concentrations. Thus, thiourea can improve the biological control efficacy of EPNs, and the enhanced environmentally friendly approach may apply to diverse cropping systems.

The Saaty analytic network process (Saaty-ANP) is a generalization of the analytic hierarchy process. The Markov chain-based ANP (MC-ANP) is another decision-making approach suitable for general structures. Both ANPs use a relative measurement (paired comparisons with ratio scales) to estimate tangible and intangible factors, use a stochastic matrix (SM) to solve feedback problems and obtain the same results under some conditions. The Saaty-ANP does not define the basic concepts, nor does it check the rationality of the structure, which may lead to meaningless solutions and ignore a subclass of feedback decision problems. MC-ANP separates the alternatives from the criteria and defines the attributes, criteria, criterion dominated relations (CDRs) and reasonable constraints of the CDRs by means of digraphs; it also represents CDRs as Markov chain transition diagrams and corresponding (stochastic) adjacency matrices and obtains solutions from a system of linear equations. With the MC-ANP, for the real alternative problems (Class I), the solutions are priorities of the alternatives obtained by the parametric positive left eigenvectors of the SM, and for the nominal alternative problems (Class II), the solutions are priorities of the criteria obtained by the nonnegative right eigenvector of the SM. We analyze the conditions and causes of rank reversal; note that rank reversal does not appear in Class II problems; the study offers a rank reversal ANP example (with feedback) and presents a rank-preserving method for Class I problems. We discuss the contribution of MC-ANP, how to compensate for the defects of Saaty-AHP/ANP, and present issues that need further consideration.

BackgroundCetuximab is an effective antibody to treat colorectal cancer (CRC) by targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). However, the mechanisms of acquired resistance to cetuximab therapy, especially in patients without identifiable gene mutations, are not fully understood.MethodsOur study investigated the role of pumilio RNA-binding family member 1 (PUM1) in cetuximab resistance. We established cetuximab-resistant colon cancer cell lines SW480R and Caco-2R and knocked out PUM1 and DEAD-box helicase 5 (DDX5) with the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-caspase 9 (Cas9) system. To check cell proliferation, we used Cell Counting Kit-8. We performed qPCR and immunoblot to examine the levels of mRNAs and proteins for each cell line.ResultsOur data showed that PUM1 was upregulated in SW480R and Caco-2R cells with increased protein levels and cell proliferation, and PUM1 knockout reduced cell viability in the presence of cetuximab. We also found that PUM1 interacted with DDX5 in 3′ untranslated region (UTR) and positively regulated its mRNA expression. Furthermore, suppression of DDX5 also decreased the proliferation of SW480R and Caco-2R cells.ConclusionOur study suggests that PUM1 positively regulates DDX5 and acts as a promoter in cetuximab-resistant colon cancer cells.

BackgroundAltered expression profile of microRNAs (miRNAs) was reported to be associated with colorectal cancer (CRC). The aims of this study are to identify the changed miRNAs in the plasma of CRC patients and explore the underlying mechanism of these miRNAs during tumorigenesis.MethodsPlasma miRNA expression profiles were compared between healthy people and CRC patients. MiRNA expression was measured using quantitative real-time PCR. Colony formation and MTT assays were used to test cell proliferation. Luciferase assay, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting were employed to explore the molecular mechanism.ResultsMiR-142-3p level was found as the most significantly repressed miRNA in CRC patients. Overexpression of miR-142-3p dramatically repressed colony formation and cell proliferation of both HT29 and HCT116 cells while inhibition of miR-142-3p promoted those of the cells. Interestingly, overexpression of miR-142-3p reduced the level and nuclear accumulation of β-catenin. We further observed that miR-142-3p remarkably inhibited the transcriptional activity of β-catenin gene (CTNNB1). However, mutations in the predicted binding sites blocked this inhibition, suggesting that miR-142-3p may directly bind to the mRNA of β-catenin.ConclusionIn conclusion, we identified miR-142-3p exerts its function as a tumor suppressor through blocking the activation of Wnt signaling by directly targeting to CTNNB1.

Background/Aims: Mitochondria (MT) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) show maternal inheritance in most eukaryotic organisms; the sperm mtDNA is usually delivered to the egg during fertilization and then rapidly eliminated to avoid heteroplasmy, which can affect embryogenesis. In our previous study, fertilization-delivered sperm mtDNA exhibited late elimination and transcriptional quiescence in cyprinid fish embryos. However, the mechanisms underlying elimination and transcriptional quiescence of paternal mtDNA are unclear. Methods: Goldfish and zebrafish were used to investigate the fate of mtDNAs with different parental origins delivered by fertilization or microinjection in embryos. Goldfish MT from heart, liver and spermatozoa were microinjected into zebrafish zygotes, respectively. Specific PCR primers were designed so that the amplicons have different sizes to characterize goldfish and zebrafish cytb genes or their cDNAs. Results: The MT injection-delivered paternal mtDNA from sperm, as well as those from the heart and liver, was capable of persistence and transcription until birth, in contrast to the disappearance and transcriptional quiescence at the heartbeat stage of fertilization-delivered sperm mtDNA. In addition, the exogenous MT-injected zebrafish embryos have normal morphology during embryonic development. Conclusions: The fate of paternal mtDNA in fishes is dependent on the delivery strategy rather than the MT source, suggesting that the presence of sperm factor(s) is responsible for elimination and transcriptional quiescence of fertilization-delivered sperm mtDNA. These findings provide insights into the mechanisms underlying paternal mtDNA fate and heteroplasmy in cyprinid fishes.

Herpesviruses constitute a large family of disease-causing DNA viruses. Each herpesvirus strain is capable of infecting particular organisms with a specific cell tropism. Upon infection, pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) recognize conserved viral features to trigger signaling cascades that culminate in the production of interferons and pro-inflammatory cytokines. To invoke a proper immune response while avoiding collateral tissue damage, signaling proteins involved in these cascades are tightly regulated by post-translational modifications (PTMs). Herpesviruses have developed strategies to subvert innate immune signaling pathways in order to ensure efficient viral replication and achieve persistent infection. The ability of these viruses to control the proteins involved in these signaling cascades post-translationally, either directly via virus-encoded enzymes or indirectly through the deregulation of cellular enzymes, has been widely reported. This ability provides herpesviruses with a powerful tool to shut off or restrict host antiviral and inflammatory responses. In this review, we highlight recent findings on the herpesvirus-mediated post-translational control along PRR-mediated signaling pathways.

Gene editing with CRISPR/Cas9 is a powerful tool to study the function of target genes. Although this technology has demonstrated wide efficiency in many species, including fertilized zebrafish and medaka fish embryos when microinjected, its application to achieve efficient gene editing in cultured fish cells have met some difficulty. Here, we report an efficient and reliable approach to edit genes in cultured medaka (Oryzias latipes) fish cells using pre-formed gRNA-Cas9 ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex. Both medaka fish haploid and diploid cells were transfected with the RNP complex by electroporation. Efficient gene editing was demonstrated by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the target gene from genomic DNA and heteroduplex mobility assay carried out with polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). The heteroduplex bands caused by RNP cleavage and non-homologous end joining could be readily detected by PAGE. DNA sequencing confirmed that these heteroduplex bands contains the mutated target gene sequence. The average gene editing efficiency in haploid cells reached 50%, enabling us to generate a clonal cell line with ntrk3b gene mutation for further study. This RNP transfection method also works efficiently in diploid medaka cells, with the highest mutation efficiency of 61.5%. The specificity of this synthetic RNP CRISPR/Cas9 approach was verified by candidate off-target gene sequencing. Our result indicated that transfection of pre-formed gRNA-Cas9 RNP into fish cells is efficient and reliable to edit target genes in cultured medaka fish cells. This method will be very useful for gene function studies using cultured fish cells.

Herpesviruses can be detected by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), which then activate downstream adaptors, kinases and transcription factors (TFs) to induce the expression of interferons (IFNs) and inflammatory cytokines. IFNs further activate the Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) pathway, inducing the expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs). These signaling events constitute host innate immunity to defeat herpesvirus infection and replication. A hallmark of all herpesviruses is their ability to establish persistent infection in the presence of active immune response. To achieve this, herpesviruses have evolved multiple strategies to suppress or exploit host innate immune signaling pathways to facilitate their infection. This review summarizes the key host innate immune components and their regulation by herpesviruses during infection. Also we highlight unanswered questions and research gaps for future perspectives.

Insect phenoloxidase (PO) belongs to the type 3 copper protein family and possesses oxidoreductase activities. PO is typically synthesized as a zymogen called prophenoloxidase (PPO) and requires the proteolytic activation to function. We here cloned full-length cDNA for 3 previously unidentified PPOs, which we named OfPPO1a, OfPPO1b, and OfPPO3, from Asian corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Gunée), in addition to the previously known OfPPO2. These conceptual PPOs and OfPPO2 all contain two common copper-binding regions, two potential proteolytic activation sites, a plausible thiol-ester site, and a conserved C-terminal region but lack a secretion signal peptide sequence at the N-terminus. O. furnacalis PPOs were highly similar to other insect PPOs (42% to 79% identity) and clustered well with other lepidopteran PPOs. RT-PCR assay showed the transcripts of the 4 OfPPOs were all detected at the highest level in hemocytes and at the increased amounts after exposure to infection by bacteria and fungi. Additionally, we established an Escherichia coli (E. coli) expression system to produce recombinant O. furnacalis PPO proteins for future use in investigating their functions. These insights could provide valuable information for better understanding the activation and functioning mechanisms of O. furnacalis PPOs.

Retrovirus (RV) is efficient for gene transfer and integration in dividing cells of diverse organisms. RV provides a powerful tool for insertional mutagenesis (IM) to identify and functionally analyze genes essential for normal and pathological processes. Here we report RV-mediated gene transfer and genome-wide IM in fish stem cells from medaka and zebrafish. Three RVs were produced for fish cell transduction: rvLegfp and rvLcherry produce green fluorescent protein (GFP) and mCherry fluorescent protein respectively under control of human cytomegalovirus immediate early promoter upon any chromosomal integration, whereas rvGTgfp contains a splicing acceptor and expresses GFP only upon gene trapping (GT) via intronic in-frame integration and spliced to endogenous active genes. We show that rvLegfp and rvLcherry produce a transduction efficiency of 11~23% in medaka and zebrafish stem cell lines, which is as 30~67% efficient as the positive control in NIH/3T3. Upon co-infection with rvGTgfp and rvLcherry, GFP-positive cells were much fewer than Cherry-positive cells, consistent with rareness of productive gene trapping events versus random integration. Importantly, rvGTgfp infection in the medaka haploid embryonic stem (ES) cell line HX1 generated GTgfp insertion on all 24 chromosomes of the haploid genome. Similar to the mammalian haploid cells, these insertion events were presented predominantly in intergenic regions and introns but rarely in exons. RV-transduced HX1 retained the ES cell properties such as stable growth, embryoid body formation and pluripotency gene expression. Therefore, RV is proficient for gene transfer and IM in fish stem cells. Our results open new avenue for genome-wide IM in medaka haploid ES cells in culture.

SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBT) structures are optimized for achieving simultaneous improvements in thermal and electrical performance. The results shed light on the possibility of optimizing SiGe HBTs for improvements in both thermal and electrical performances.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) evolves rapidly under the pressure of host immunity, as evidenced by waves of emerging variants despite effective vaccinations, highlighting the need for complementing antivirals. We report that targeting a pyrimidine synthesis enzyme restores inflammatory response and depletes the nucleotide pool to impede SARS-CoV-2 infection. SARS-CoV-2 deploys Nsp9 to activate carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase, aspartate transcarbamoylase, and dihydroorotase (CAD) that catalyzes the rate-limiting steps of the de novo pyrimidine synthesis. Activated CAD not only fuels de novo nucleotide synthesis but also deamidates RelA. While RelA deamidation shuts down NF-γB activation and subsequent inflammatory response, it up-regulates key glycolytic enzymes to promote aerobic glycolysis that provides metabolites for de novo nucleotide synthesis. A newly synthesized smallmolecule inhibitor of CAD restores antiviral inflammatory response and depletes the pyrimidine pool, thus effectively impeding SARS-CoV-2 replication. Targeting an essential cellular metabolic enzyme thus offers an antiviral strategy that would be more refractory to SARS-CoV-2 genetic changes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Improved patient satisfaction in endoscopy is worthy of study as it is an invasive and potentially uncomfortable procedure. There is growing literature on patient satisfaction assessment in endoscopy as part of improving quality assurance. This study aimed to determine whether virtual reality (VR) technology can decrease patients' pain and nervousness during colonoscopies. Methods Patients enrolled without sedation were randomly categorised into groups that watched VR (VR group; n=58) and those that did not watch VR (control group; n=59). The primary outcomes were pain score and skin conductance. Secondary endpoints included heart rate, systolic and diastolic arterial pressures, overall patient satisfaction, willingness to repeat the procedure, the difficulty of the procedure, the procedure duration, and bowel preparation. Results The median (interquartile range (IQR)) pain scores were 7 (6-8) and 5 (4-6) in the control and VR groups, respectively (p<0.001). The median (IQR) skin conductance values after colonoscope insertion were 0.660 (0.490-0.840) and 0.390 (0.280-0.600) in the control and VR groups, respectively (p<0.001). Overall, patient satisfaction was significantly improved with the use of VR, along with a significant reduction in the difficulty perceived by the endoscopist. Conclusion VR technology helped to reduce patients' pain and nervousness and to improve patients' satisfaction during colonoscopies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

C-type lectins (CTLs) are a large family of calcium-dependent carbohydrate-binding proteins. They function primarily in cell adhesion and immunity by recognizing various glycoconjugates. We identified 14 transcripts encoding proteins with one or two CTL domains from the transcriptome from Asian corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenée; Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). Among them, five (Of CTL-S1 through S5) only contain one CTL domain, the remaining nine (Of IML-1 through 9) have two tandem CTL domains. Five CTL-Ss and six Of IMLs have a signal peptide are likely extracellular while another two Of IMLs might be cytoplasmic. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that Of CTL-Ss had 1:1 orthologs in Lepidoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera species, but Of IMLs only clustered with immulectins (IMLs) from Lepidopteran. Structural modeling revealed that the 22 CTL domains adopt a similar double-loop fold consisting of β-sheets and α-helices. The key residues for calcium-dependent or independent binding of specific carbohydrates by CTL domains were predicted with homology modeling. Expression profiles assay showed distinct expression pattern of 14 CTLs: the expression and induction were related to the developmental stages and infected microorganisms. Overall, our work including the gene identification, sequence alignment, phylogenetic analysis, structural modeling, and expression profile assay would provide a valuable basis for the further functional studies of O. furnacalis CTLs. Objective Gene expression profiling provides an opportunity to develop robust prognostic markers of colorectal carcinoma (CRC). However, the markers have not been applied for clinical decision making. We aimed to develop an immunohistochemistry signature using microarray data for predicting CRC prognosis. Design We evaluated 25 CRC gene signatures in independent microarray datasets with prognosis information and constructed a subnetwork using signatures with high concordance and repeatable prognostic values. Tumours were examined immunohistochemically for the expression of networkcentric and the top overlapping molecules. Prognostic values were assessed in 682 patients from Shanghai, China (training cohort) and validated in 343 patients from Guangzhou, China (validation cohort). Median follow-up duration was 58 months. All p values are two-sided. Results Five signatures were selected to construct a subnetwork. The expression of GRB2, PTPN11, ITGB1 and POSTN in cancer cells, each significantly associated with disease-free survival, were selected to construct an immunohistochemistry signature. Patients were dichotomised into high-risk and low-risk subgroups with an optimal risk score (1.55). Compared with low-risk patients, high-risk patients had shorter disease-specific survival (DSS) in the training (HR=6.62; 95% CI 3.70 to 11.85) and validation cohorts (HR=3.53; 95% CI 2.13 to 5.84) in multivariate Cox analyses. The signature better predicted DSS than did tumour-node-metastasis staging in both cohorts. In those who received postoperative chemotherapy, high-risk score predicted shorter DSS in the training (HR=6.35; 95% CI 3.55 to 11.36) and validation cohorts (HR=5.56; 95% CI 2.25 to 13.71). Conclusions Our immunohistochemistry signature may be clinically practical for personalised prediction of CRC prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article examines proton conductivity of acid doped polybenzimidazole (PBI)/polyimide (PI) and polybenzimidazole (PBI)/polyvinylpyrrolione (PVP) blends. The PBI doped with phosphoric acid is proposed as an electrolyte in intermediate temperature fuel cells and hydrogen sensors. Polymer blends have been used extensively for various purposes. The article prepares PBI/PI and PBI/PVP blends. All of these polymers are suitable for acid doping as a matrix because of the existence of the N-heterocycle in the polymers, which can eventually be used as proton conductors. Temperature dependence of proton conductivity of the blends can still be fitted by a simple Arrhenius relation.

Background: Farmers have applied Cynanchum mongolicum (Maxim) to control crop pests. The aim of this study was to analyze composition of essential oil from C. mongolicum, evaluate insecticidal activities against Aphis glycines, and lethal doses., Materials and Methods: Essential oil from C. mongolicum was efficiently extracted by steam distillation. The main components of the oil were analyzed with a gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) system, and the insecticidal activity of the essential oil on soybean aphids Aphis glycines was tested using a variety of methods., Results: The components of the essential oil from C. mongolicum mainly included terpenes and ester compounds, of which (Z)-3-Hexen-1-ol acetate, cis-3-hexenyl isovalerate, α-farnesene, and β-caryophyllene accounted for 15.8, 10.4, 8.4, and 5.5%, respectively. With 1- and 2-day exposure, the essential oil showed pronounced contact toxicity (median lethal concentration (LC50) =37.8 and 38.4 μL/mL, respectively), weak fumigant toxicity (LC50 = 139.7 and 139.9 μL/L, respectively). The essential oil showed strong deterrent activity on soybean aphids in 2 and 4 h., Conclusion: The essential oil of C. mongolicum contained insecticidal components and possessed contact toxicity and deterrent activity to A. glycines.
