Abstract
- The article examines proton conductivity of acid doped polybenzimidazole (PBI)/polyimide (PI) and polybenzimidazole (PBI)/polyvinylpyrrolione (PVP) blends. The PBI doped with phosphoric acid is proposed as an electrolyte in intermediate temperature fuel cells and hydrogen sensors. Polymer blends have been used extensively for various purposes. The article prepares PBI/PI and PBI/PVP blends. All of these polymers are suitable for acid doping as a matrix because of the existence of the N-heterocycle in the polymers, which can eventually be used as proton conductors. Temperature dependence of proton conductivity of the blends can still be fitted by a simple Arrhenius relation.
