Abstract Background During the COVID-19 pandemic, decentralised clinical trials incorporated self-monitoring, self-reporting, and telenursing tools to address health literacy and health empowerment of patients enrolled in clinical trials. We aimed to determine the impact of an educational intervention using telenursing consultations on health literacy, health empowerment, and health-related quality of life in cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials by measuring the level of satisfaction with the care received and assessing the views of healthcare professionals concerning the advanced practice nurse (APN) role in oncology clinical trials. Methods In this pilot analytical, descriptive, longitudinal, quasi-experimental, and pre-post test study, an educational intervention was conducted by 5 visits with an APN using synchronous teleconsultation in patients starting cancer treatment for the first time in a clinical trial (n = 60), and health professionals working with the APN (n = 31). El prolongado traslado de la educación presencial a un modelo a distancia durante la pandemia de COVID-19, provocó en Chile un cambio en las prácticas educativas, que fueron mediadas mayoritariamente por las TIC. Tras el retorno a la presencialidad, se evidencia la permanencia protagónica de los medios de comunicación y las tecnologías digitales en el aula, generando en la comunidad educativa una creciente inquietud por fomentar las competencias mediáticas tanto de estudiantes como docentes respecto a un uso efectivo y crítico de las TIC en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Ante este contexto culturalmente convergente, nuestro objetivo es analizar las políticas educacionales vigentes para comprender la visión del Estado respecto a la educación mediática. Para ello, empleamos el análisis de contenido documental de un corpus de 42 textos que regulan la enseñanza obligatoria en Chile, conformado por leyes, bases curriculares y programas educativos. Los resultados indican una mirada integradora de asignaturas, evidenciando elementos relacionados con la competencia mediática que son dominados por un enfoque tecnológico. Con ello concluimos que las orientaciones sobre alfabetización mediática en el currículo escolar pueden enriquecerse a partir del enlace de contenidos con competencias de lectura crítica, interacción y expresión con los medios, el fomento de guías y recursos docentes para la aplicación de estrategias, así como métodos evaluativos que permitan determinar la eficacia de estas políticas en el desarrollo de la alfabetización mediática en los adolescentes.

Abstract Background Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the main causes of cancer mortality in the world. A characteristic feature of this cancer is that a large part of the tumor volume is composed of a stroma with different cells and factors. Among these, we can highlight the cytokines, which perform their function through binding to their receptors. Given the impact of the CXCR4 receptor in the interactions between tumor cells and their microenvironment and its involvement in important signaling pathways in cancer, it is proposed as a very promising prognostic biomarker and as a goal for new targeted therapies. Numerous studies analyze the expression of CXCR4 but we suggest focusing on the expression of CXCR4 in the stroma. Methods Expression of CXCR4 in specimens from 33 patients with PDAC was evaluated by immunohistochemistry techniques and matched with clinicopathological parameters, overall and disease-free survival rates. Results The percentage of stroma was lower in non-tumor tissue (32.4 ± 5.2) than in tumor pancreatic tissue (67.4 ± 4.8), P-value = 0.001. The level of CXCR4 expression in stromal cells was diminished in non-tumor tissue (8.7 ± 4.6) and higher in tumor pancreatic tissue (23.5 ± 6.1), P-value = 0.022. No significant differences were identified in total cell count and inflammatory cells between non-tumor tissue and pancreatic tumor tissue. No association was observed between CXCR4 expression and any of the clinical or pathological data, overall and disease-free survival rates. Analyzing exclusively the stroma of tumor samples, the CXCR4 expression was associated with tumor differentiation, P-value = 0.05. Conclusions In this study, we reflect the importance of CXCR4 expression in the stroma of patients diagnosed with PDAC. Our results revealed a high CXCR4 expression in the tumor stroma, which is related to a poor tumor differentiation. On the contrary, we could not find an association between CXCR4 expression and survival and the rest of the clinicopathological variables. Focusing the study on the CXCR4 expression in the tumor stroma could generate more robust results. Therefore, we consider it key to develop more studies to enlighten the role of this receptor in PDAC and its implication as a possible biomarker.

BackgroundHealth literacy has a direct impact on the health of populations. It is related to education, capacity for self-care, and management of health resources. The Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire HLS-Q12 is one of the reference instruments but has not yet been adapted to Spanish. The aims of the study were to cross-culturally adapt and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the HLS-Q12.MethodsData was collected from June 2020 to March 2022. The sample consisted of 60 patients who initiated cancer treatment for the first time within a clinical trial. Double direct translation, back-translation, cognitive debriefing with a 10-patient sample, and an expert committee were used for cross-cultural adaptation. For validation of the HLS-Q12, a psychometric analysis was performed to assess feasibility, reliability, sensitivity to change and construct validity with other measures such as health-related quality of life, empowerment, and health needs.ResultsThe HLS-Q12 is equivalent at the semantic, conceptual, and content level to the original version and its psychometric properties demonstrated good internal consistency with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.88 and a McDonald´s omega of 0.91, a high degree of fit for the confirmatory factor analysis, and a statistically significant sensitivity to change (p = 0.025).ConclusionsBased on robust psychometric values, the Spanish version of HLS-Q12 was found to be a good cross-culturally adapted tool for collecting correct information on health literacy in cancer patients regardless of tumour type or stage. Although more studies are needed, this version of HLS-Q12 could be used in research for collecting data on the health literacy needs of Spanish-speaking patients.

BackgroundEffective nutrition management is fundamental in the comprehensive treatment of individuals with type 2 diabetes. Various strategies have been explored in this regard, demonstrating their potential usefulness in improving clinical outcomes. This systematic review aims to assess the impact of meals frequency on the well-being of these patients.Methods and findingsIn accordance with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar databases were searched until July 10th, 2023. We included studies from the last 10 years in people with type 2 diabetes that had an intervention regarding their meal frequency. The risk of bias was evaluated based on the Cochrane tool according to the type of study. Of 77 retrieval articles, 13 studies matched our inclusion criteria. The primary focus of each study was to evaluate glycemic control as the major outcome. Studies suggest that meal frequency, time-restricted feeding, breakfast skipping, bedtime snacking, and chrononutrition practices all play roles in type 2 diabetes management and risk.ConclusionsRestricting feeding to 2 to 3 meals per day and practicing time restricted feeding with less than 10 hours of daily food intake promotes weight loss and glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Aligning food consumption with the body's natural rhythm is beneficial, whereas skipping breakfast disrupts this rhythm. Snacking after evening or waiting 3-4 hours after meal helps control glucose levels, but consuming pre-bedtime snacks do not provide the same benefits.Prospero registration numberCRD42023431785.

Este trabajo toma como objeto de estudio una muestra de la obra del director japonés de animación Makoto Shinkai. El objetivo principal es el análisis de los personajes protagonistas en tres de sus largometrajes. Aplicamos una metodología de análisis de contenido basada en la descripción y comparación de varias dimensiones de los personajes, desde las propuestas metodológicas de análisis procedentes de los estudios narratológicos del cine y la literatura. Consideramos que Shinkai construye a sus protagonistas a partir de prácticas y estrategias habituales a la hora de otorgar complejidad a aquellos y convertirlos así en simulacros verosímiles en la representación de personas, incluso tratándose de animación. El análisis concluye que la creación de personajes redondos dota a la obra de Shinkai de una madurez insólita en el anime. La introducción de elementos fantásticos y de un mensaje más profundo y menos evidente lleva a los títulos hacia el terreno de la metáfora y a un alto componente místico y espiritual, aunque dentro de una narrativa comercial.

Desde el ámbito filosófico cada vez más autores muestran interés por abordar la reflexión filosófica de la ingeniería. Del lado de la ingeniería, existe una demanda definida por las sociedades profesionales y los organismos de acreditación de las titulaciones de ingeniería de inclusión de las ciencias sociales y humanidades en la formación de los ingenieros que, sin embargo, presenta deficiencias en su implantación. El objetivo del presente trabajo es justificar la inclusión de la reflexión filosófica en la formación de los titulados en ingeniería y, para mejorar la situación actual, presentar una propuesta de asignaturas que muestre cuál pueda ser su espacio. La propuesta consiste en la inclusión de una asignatura específica que relacione la ingeniería y la sociedad, donde la reflexión filosófica juega un papel significativo, como complemento a la inclusión de la reflexión filosófica sobre problemas concretos en asignaturas específicas de corte tecnológico.

Partiendo de los supuestos teóricos de la psicología cultural y la socialización lingüística, y siguiendo un enfoque etnográfico, este trabajo ofrece (a) un estudio que explica el proceso de escolarización de dos estudiantes recién llegados a España y un alumno dominicano recién llegado al grupo, pero no al colegio; y (b) un marco teórico como forma dinámica de analizar las instituciones educativas, a través del cual hemos identificado prácticas verticales y prácticas horizontales. Este estudio aporta un análisis del comportamiento social de los estudiantes, entendiéndolo como un proceso dinámico en el que las acciones de cada persona son el resultado de la interacción entre contexto y comportamiento individual, destacando la agencia y el poder transformador de un individuo dentro de una comunidad.

El trabajo pretende encuadrar teórica e históricamente y presentar un conjunto de artículos sobre la actualidad y proyección de la tradición escolástica. El punto de partida es el giro antropológico que, en el seno de la escolástica y al principio del siglo XIV, privilegió el estudio de las ciencias prácticas, en particular la ética, el derecho y la política y, en consecuencia, el obligado desarrollo de una teología moral preocupada por la convivencia humana. La segunda escolástica, prolongando esta tradición a lo largo de los siglos XVI y XVII, no pudo permanecer ajena a las implicaciones de los profundos cambios que estaban teniendo lugar: el Descubrimiento de América, la Reforma protestante el desarrollo de un protocapitalismo comercial y el fortalecimiento de las monarquías. Conforme la Reforma se consolidaba en buena parte de los territorios europeos, entre las diversas confesiones se levantaron fronteras intelectuales. No obstante -y este es el centro de los trabajos presentados- estas fronteras resultaron porosas y, a pesar del clima de enfrentamiento, diversas vías de comunicación indirecta consiguieron mantener una única república intelectual.

Agrivoltaics is currently presented as a possible effective solution to one of society’s greatest challenges: responding to the increasing demand for energy and food in an efficient and sustainable manner. To this end, agrivoltaics proposes to combine agricultural and renewable energy production on the same land using photovoltaic technology. The performance of this new production model strongly depends on the interaction between the two systems, agricultural and photovoltaic. In that sense, one of the most important aspects to consider are the effects of the shadows of the photovoltaic panels on the crop land. Therefore, further study of crop behavior under agrivoltaic conditions requires exhaustive knowledge of the spatial distribution of solar radiation within the portion of land between collectors and crops. This study presents a valid methodology to estimate this distribution of solar irradiance in agrivoltaic installations as a function of the photovoltaic installation geometry and the levels of diffuse and direct solar irradiance incident on the crop land. As an example, this methodology was applied to simulate the radiative capture potential of possible photovoltaic plants located in Cordoba, Spain by systematically varying the design variables of the photovoltaic plants. Based on the results obtained, a model correlating the agrivoltaic potential of a photovoltaic plant with its design variables is proposed. Likewise, for the “Alcolea 1” photovoltaic plant (Cordoba, Spain), the solar radiation decay profiles were simulated in the lanes between the photovoltaic collectors where the crops would be planted in the event of converting this plant into an agrivoltaic facility. Thus, the methodology proposed represents an interesting way to determine the agrivoltaic potential of existing grid-connected photovoltaic installations that could be converted into agrivoltaic installations, contributing to the implementation of this new agricultural production model that is more sustainable and environmentally committed to the future.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el protagonismo que adquiere el productor ejecutivo en el proceso de producción de series de ficción y su implicación en las facetas creativas. Con esta finalidad, se realiza una revisión del concepto de productor ejecutivo-creativo, así como de sus funciones y responsabilidades en cada fase del proceso. El trabajo se complementa con testimonios extraídos de once entrevistas a dieciséis destacados productores ejecutivos de la industria televisiva española realizadas durante el último trimestre del año 2017. A pesar de la variedad de modelos de actuación obtenidos, los resultados evidencian la relevancia activa y creciente de este profesional en los aspectos creativos de la producción televisiva española, así como la proyección internacional de sus trabajos, especialmente gracias a la implantación de las plataformas de streaming en este país.

Amiodarone is a potent class III antiarrhythmic drug used for both supra and ventricular tachyarrhythmias. Due to its high iodine content and similar structure to thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), abnormalities in thyroid function are common (hyper/hypothyroidism) in patients taking amiodarone, especially with long term use. We present the case of a patient with amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis (AIT), refractory to medical therapy, which required total thyroidectomy for symptomatic control. Resumen: La amiodarona es un potente antiarrítmico clase III, indicada en el tratamiento de taquiarritmias supra y ventriculares. Debido a su alto contenido en yodo y estructura similar a la tiroxina (T4) y triyodotironina (T3), son frecuentes las alteraciones en la función tiroidea (hiper/hipotiroidismo) en pacientes que la consumen. Presentamos el caso de un paciente con tirotoxicosis inducida por amiodarona (TIA), refractaria a terapia médica, que precisó tiroidectomía total para control sintomático. AIM: To assess and compare the impact of a daily disposable contact lens (CL) with high water content on the ocular surface and comfort of the presbyopic and non-presbyopic population after one day of use. METHODS: Totally 20 presbyopes and 30 non-presbyopes non-contact wearers were fitted with nesofilcon A CLs. CL thickness was measured to assess material stability during daily wear, and ocular surface parameters were also assessed. Optical quality was analyzed for all cases. In addition, CL comfort was rated. RESULTS: No significant differences were found in CL thickness, tear film osmolarity, average tear break-up time, bulbar redness, central corneal thickness, corneal volume, root-mean-square of higher-order aberrations (RMS of HOAs) and vertical and horizontal coma, either as a function of the group or time of use. A significant decrease in tear meniscus height and first break-up of the tear film was found in the presbyopic group (P=0.038; P=0.007 respectively). A decrease in spherical aberration coefficient was found after CL insertion (P=0.031 monofocal CL; P=0.023 low addition multifocal CL; P=0.016 high addition multifocal CL). Multifocal CL were thicker than monofocal CL (P=0.045). Comparison between groups showed more discomfort in presbyopes than non-presbyopes (P=0.003). CONCLUSION: This study evidence that the behavior of the daily disposable CL with high water content seems to be stable during the day of use. Ocular parameters measured during wear show that CL behavior is the same for presbyopes and non-presbyopes, being more uncomfortable for presbyopes.

The growing need to increase environmental and energy sustainability in buildings (housing, offices, warehouses, etc.) requires the use of solar radiation as a renewable source of energy that can help to lower carbon footprint, making buildings more efficient and thereby contributing to a more sustainable planet, while enhancing the health and wellbeing of its occupants. One of the technologies deployed in the use of solar energy in buildings is heliostats. In this context, this paper presents an analysis of the performance of a heliostat illuminator to improve illumination in a classroom at the Campus of Rabanales of the University of Cordoba (Spain). A design of a system in charge of monitoring and measuring daylighting variables using Arduino hardware technology and free software is shown. This equipment develops the communications, programming and collection of lighting data. In parallel, installation of an artificial lighting system complementary to the natural lighting system is implemented. Finally, an analysis of the impact of the proposed solution on the improvement of energy efficiency is presented. Specifically, it is estimated that up to 64% of savings in artificial lighting can be achieved in spaces with heliostatic illuminators compared to those without them.

Este artículo presenta un estudio de la construcción con muros mixtos de tierra y madera a través del análisis de 289 casos repartidos por toda España. Las variantes identificadas han sido agrupadas en familias constructivas con características comunes, con el objeto de facilitar su reconocimiento e interpretación. En el capítulo de discusión, se destaca qué tipos de subestructura de madera y de relleno de tierra son más frecuentes y se observa el modo en el que se suelen combinar entre ellos. En las conclusiones se reflexiona sobre cómo esta combinación encuentra un compromiso entre sentido de la oportunidad y adaptación al contexto – características fundamentales de las construcciones vernáculas – y da lugar a la enorme riqueza técnica de esta arquitectura. Este texto supone un importante avance en el conocimiento de los muros mixtos de tierra y madera, fundamental para poder plantear estudios orientados a la protección, rehabilitación y consolidación de los edificios erigidos con ellos, tanto en España como en otros países con soluciones constructivas similares.

Background and aims: Oxidative stress (OS) induces the production of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21). Previous data have revealed that FGF21 protects cells from OS injury and death, making it a potential therapeutic option for many diseases with increased OS. However, the association of this growth factor with OS markers in humans with chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unknown. This study aims to evaluate the association of serum FGF21 with serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and oxidized low-density lipoproteins (OxLDL) in subjects in different stages of kidney disease. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that included 382 subjects with different stages of CKD, irrespective of type 2 diabetes (T2D) diagnosis. Associations of serum FGF21 with OxLDL, TAC, sex, age, body mass index (BMI), fasting plasma glucose, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), T2D, and smoking, were evaluated through bivariate and partial correlation analyses. Independent associations of these variables with serum FGF21 were evaluated using multiple linear regression analysis. Results: Serum FGF21 was significantly and positively correlated with age ( r = 0.236), TAC (lnTAC) ( r = 0.217), and negatively correlated with eGFR ( r = −0.429) and male sex ( r = −0.102). After controlling by age, sex, BMI, T2D, smoking, and eGFR; both TAC and OxLDL were positively correlated with FGF21 ( r = 0.117 and 0.158 respectively, p

The effect of sex on systemic therapy for psoriasis has not been well studied. The aim of this study was to analyse a large multicentre Spanish cohort of 2,881 patients with psoriasis (58.3% males), followed from January 2008 to November 2018, to determine whether sex influences prescription, effectiveness of therapy, and the risk of adverse events. The results show that women are more likely than men to be prescribed biologics. There were no differences between men and women in effectiveness of therapy, measured in terms of drug survival. Women were more likely to develop adverse events, but the difference in risk was small and does not justify different management. Study limitations include residual confounding and the use of drug survival as a proxy for effectiveness.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intranasal midazolam as part of a paediatric sedation and analgesic procedure during the suturing of traumatic lacerations in paediatric emergency departments. Methodology: A systematic review of clinical trials was completed in July 2021. The databases consulted were PUBMED, SCOPUS, WEB OF SCIENCE, NICE and Virtual Health Library. Eligibility criteria: randomised and nonrandomised clinical trials. Two independent, blinded reviewers performed the selection and data extraction. The participants were 746 children, of whom, 377 received intranasal midazolam. All of the children were admitted to an emergency department for traumatic lacerations that required suturing. The quality of the articles was evaluated with the Jadad scale. This systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Results: Nine studies were included in the review. The intranasal administration of midazolam in healthy children produces anxiolysis and minimal/moderate sedation without serious side effects. Although there are combinations of parenteral drugs that produce deeper sedation, they also have greater adverse effects. No significant differences in the initiation of sedation and the suture procedure were found between the intranasal route and the parenteral route. Conclusions: The use of intranasal midazolam in healthy children produces sufficiently intense and long-lasting sedation to allow for the suturing of traumatic lacerations that do not present other complications; therefore, this drug can be used effectively in paediatric emergency departments.

The government institutions of Spain and Brazil signed a first agreement on cinematographic co-production in 1963. This agreement remained unchanged until 2008, when ICAA and ANCINE ratified a new bilateral agreement. Furthermore, both countries belong to CACI, promoter of some international agreements and conventions to help stimulate the creation of an Iberoamerican audio-visual space. The main example of their activities is programa IBERMEDIA. The results of these bilateral or multilateral agreements are a number of Spanish-Brazilian productions. This paper aims to compile these co-productions in order to prove the efficacy of the public policies that help the cinematographic co-production.

This article reviews the professional profile of the showrunner in the audiovisual industry, from a historical and conceptual perspective: the background, the features that define it, and the TV media position. To do so, qualitative methodology has been used to conduct a thorough bibliographic review, and examine the emergence and development of the “showrunner” concept in television history, and the term used to describe it. We then analysed the “executive producer” and “creative producer” categories, both of which are associated with the objective of the study, to determine a generalized definition of the audiovisual showrunner. We have also examined the characteristics associated with this professional producer and writer position, the skill set required for the same, the roles and responsibilities to be managed during the production process, and the creative hallmark of authorship over the TV series. Finally, the results obtained suggest that this writer-producer position has existed since the onset of the television industry; however, the use of the term “showrunner” is more recent. Today, we see a revaluation of this profile in TV series production thanks to the generalized use of the concept “showrunner”, and due to several historical, cultural, and technological factors that contribute to this situation.

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión histórica y conceptual de la autoría en la producción televisiva, tomando como referente la Politique des Auteurs francesa aplicada a la televisión estadounidense. Con dicha finalidad, desde una metodología cualitativa, se lleva a cabo un análisis bibliográfico y documental del concepto de autor en la industria del cine y la televisión. Pese al carácter colaborativo del proceso de producción televisiva, los resultados revelan la significación en éste de una autoría individual: el productor ejecutivo de series de ficción televisiva, conocido con el término de “showrunner”. Estamos ante el máximo responsable de la producción del proyecto, que aplica un estilo creativo personal en el conjunto de su obra audiovisual. Dicha autoría, influenciada por la cadena de televisión y los espectadores, promueve la consideración de las series de ficción como un producto cultural de calidad e influye en las estrategias de promoción del mismo.

Solar tracking is an efficient strategy to increase the radiative capture of photovoltaic collectors. Within the multiple efforts made in recent decades to improve the production of these facilities, various works have studied solutions to optimize the number of rotation axes (single or dual rotation axes), the degree of collector coverage, the distances between trackers, the geometric arrangement of trackers or the minimization of shading between collectors. However, although in this type of installation it is common to find collectors with geometric shapes other than rectangles, no studies on the influence of the shape of the collectors on the radiative incidence are found in the literature. In this connection, the present work systematically addresses the study of incident solar radiation in photovoltaic installations with dual-axis trackers with collectors of different geometric shapes. By means of the exhaustive study, the conclusion is drawn that, for dual-axis photovoltaic installations with an optimal tracking strategy, the main variables that influence the annual radiative incidence are the spacing between collectors, the coverage ratio (GCR), and the collector surface, while the type of arrangement of collectors and the shape of these do not show predictive values.

Animal models of psychopathology are particularly useful for studying the neurobiology of depression and characterising the subtypes. Recently, our group was the first to identify a possible relationship between the LPA1 receptor and a mixed anxiety-depression phenotype. Specifically, maLPA1-null mice exhibited a phenotype characterised by depressive and anxious features. However, the constitutive lack of the gene encoding the LPA1 receptor (Lpar1) can induce compensatory mechanisms that might have resulted in the observed deficits. Therefore, in the present study, we have compared the impact of permanent loss and acute pharmacological inhibition of the LPA1 receptor on despair-like behaviours and on the functional brain map associated with these behaviours, as well as on the degree of functional connectivity among structures. Although the antagonist (intracerebroventricularly administered Ki16425) mimicked some, but not all, effects of genetic deletion of the LPA1 receptor on the results of behavioural tests and engaged different brain circuits, both treatments induced depression-like behaviours with an agitation component that was linked to functional changes in key brain regions involved in the stress response and emotional regulation. In addition, both Ki16425 treatment and LPA1 receptor deletion modified the functional brain maps in a way similar to the changes observed in depressed patients. In summary, the pharmacological and genetic approaches could ultimately assist in dissecting the function of the LPA1 receptor in emotional regulation and brain responses, and a combination of those approaches might provide researchers with an opportunity to develop useful drugs that target the LPA1 receptor as treatments for depression, mainly the anxious subtype. Hemos tratado de clarificar la noción de punto de vista mediante un ejemplo extremo capaz de poner en cuestión los principios gestionados por la previa reflexión teórica al aplicarlos a un texto muy singular: el film de László Nemes El hijo de Saúl (Saul fia, 2015). Esta investigación estudia el emplazamiento de productos en el videoclip musical con mayor número de reproducciones en YouTube en el plazo de un mes. Entendemos el product placement como una técnica que mezcla diversas estrategias de comunicación publicitaria a partir de su presencia en el discurso audiovisual. Nuestro objetivo principal es conocer de qué forma se utiliza esta técnica de comunicación comercial en el formato del vídeo musical. Intentamos igualmente determinar su idoneidad para la transmisión de un mensaje comercial. Para lograr estos objetivos, realizamos un análisis de contenido de los 50 vídeos musicales con mayor número de reproducciones en YouTube durante el mes de enero de 2013. Aplicamos una metodología cuantitativa y cualitativa basada en la propuesta de Méndiz que enumera y valora la presencia de marcas. El análisis concluye que se trata de una estrategia comercial extraordinariamente frecuente, aunque no todos los vídeos resultan apropiados para ello. De igual forma, determinadas marcas y productos encuentran en el videoclip una vía idónea para introducir sus novedades en el mercado. La proximidad con el lenguaje del anuncio de televisión perjudica la credibilidad del discurso.

Este artículo analiza a partir, muy especialmente, de las declaraciones públicas de sus responsables, cómo han definido las universidades jesuitas centroamericanas su misión, con la intención de intentar explicar por qué surge en conflicto con el inicial objetivo fundacional de las universidades y, al tiempo, considerar los límites y contradicciones de este esfuerzo.

Aim. To analyze clinical effect of a novel approach to initiate sensor-augmented insulin pumps in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients through early real-time continuous glucose monitoring (RT-CGM) initiation. Methods. A 26-week pilot study with T1DM subjects randomized (1 : 1) to start RT-CGM three weeks before continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CGM pre-CSII) or adding RT-CGM three weeks after continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CGM post-CSII). Results. Twenty-two patients were enrolled with a mean age of 36.6 yr. (range 19–59 yr.) and T1DM duration of 16.8±10.6 yr. Higher adherence in CGM pre-CSII patients was confirmed at study end (84.6±11.1% versus 64.0±25.4%; P=0.01). The two intervention groups had similar HbA1c reduction at study end of −0.6% (P=0.9). Hypoglycemic event frequency reduction was observed from baseline to study end only in CGM pre-CSII group (mean difference in change, −6.3%; 95% confidence interval, −12.0 to −0.5; P=0.04). Moreover, no severe hypoglycemia was detected among CGM pre-CSII subjects during the study follow-up (0.0±0.0 events versus 0.63±1.0 events; P=0.03). CGM pre-CSII patients showed better satisfaction than CGM post-CSII patients at the end of the study (27.3±9.3 versus 32.9±7.2; P=0.04). Conclusions. CGM pre-CSII is a novel approach to improve glycemic control and satisfaction in type 1 diabetes sensor-augmented pump treated patients.

This article presents a methodological design to diagnose the current situation of Development Education (DE) in the Castilla y Léon region in Spain. This design was proposed by the Observatory for Development Cooperation at Valladolid University with the aim of developing a study which becomes the baseline for the development of a future DE strategy in that region.

El presente artículo quiere dar a conocer el diseño metodológico para la elaboración de un diagnóstico de situación de la educación para el desarrollo en Castilla y León, que se ha ideado desde el Observatorio de Cooperación Internacional de la Universidad de Valladolid con el fin de que el conocimiento sobre la situación actual de la educación para el desarrollo en Castilla y León sirva de base para la formulación de una futura estrategia de acción en educación para el desarrollo en la Comunidad.

Error is always present in the GPS guidance of a tractor along a desired trajectory. One way to reduce GPS guidance error is by improving the tractor positioning. The most commonly used ways to do this are either by employing more precise GPS receivers and differential corrections or by employing GPS together with some other local positioning systems such as electronic compasses or Inertial Navigation Systems (INS). However, both are complex and expensive solutions. In contrast, this article presents a simple and low cost method to improve tractor positioning when only a GPS receiver is used as the positioning sensor. The method is based on placing the GPS receiver ahead of the tractor, and on applying kinematic laws of tractor movement, or a geometric approximation, to obtain the midpoint position and orientation of the tractor rear axle more precisely. This precision improvement is produced by the fusion of the GPS data with tractor kinematic control laws. Our results reveal that the proposed method effectively reduces the guidance GPS error along a straight trajectory.

Este estudio pretende demostrar que la participación ciudadana en la creación de contenidos culturales no supone la amenaza que se le suponía para las industrias de la comunicación, ni mucho menos para los medios informativos digitales pertenecientes a los grandes grupos de comunicación. La producción cultural del usuario no supondría tal amenaza desde el momento en que el nivel de implicación del usuario en su creación es muy superficial, al tiempo que su alcance será mucho más limitado. La posible competencia del periodismo ciudadano no provoca así la crisis en la prensa industrial.

Hungry Bone Syndrome refers to the severe and prolonged hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia, following parathyroidectomy in patients with hyperparathyroidism. We present the case of an eighteen-year-old woman with a four-year history of hyporexia, polydipsia, weight loss, growth retardation, and poor academic performance. The diagnostic work-up demonstrated primary hyperparathyroidism with hypercalcemia of 13.36 mg/dL, a PTH level of 2551 pg/mL, bone brown tumors, and microcalcifications within pancreas and kidneys. Neck ultrasonography revealed a parathyroid adenoma of 33 × 14 × 14 mm, also identified on 99Tc-sestamibi scan. Bone densitometry showed decreased Z-Score values (total lumbar Z-Score of −4.2). A right hemithyroidectomy and right lower parathyroidectomy were performed. Pathological examination showed an atypical parathyroid adenoma, of 3.8 g of weight and 2.8 cm in diameter. After surgery she developed hypocalcemia with tetany and QTc interval prolongation. The patient required 3 months of oral and intravenous calcium supplementation due to Hungry Bone Syndrome (HBS). After 42 months, she is still under oral calcium. Usually HBS lasts less than 12 months. Therefore we propose the term “Protracted HBS” in patients with particularly long recovery of 1 year. We present a literature review of the diagnosis, pathophysiology, and treatment of HBS.

Acostumbrados como estamos a la penetración discursiva de la industria cinematográfica hollywoodiense, la escasez de productos que nos llegan desde Oriente no parece poner en entredicho nuestros conceptos ni códigos; ítem más, en cuanto que esos pocos materiales se acercan a pantallas minoritarias y son visionados por sectores limitados de la población. Nadie se llame a engaño, el control de los medios de distribución y exhibición por parte de grandes multinacionales ligadas al imperio americano es cada día más férreo y, evidentemente, el gigante defiende su producto y lo rentabiliza tanto económica como ideológicamente. Pero las cuotas de mercado no son tan favorables al cine dominante en Extremo Oriente (no mantiene su hegemonía mundial por ser la industria que más artefactos fílmicos lanza al mercado y, desde luego, tampoco por su calidad)...

El objetivo del presente trabajo es hacer una contribución al desarrollo de las teorías ontológicas del videojuego. Centradas en desvelar la esencia del medio, las denominadas teorías metafísicas se han movido en la última década entre las perspectivas ludológica y narratológica, generando un extenso argumentario fruto de una palpable mescolanza entre los estudios sobre cine y videojuegos. Con el deseo de establecer una clara distinción entre ambos dispositivos culturales, además de ensanchar los límites del debate, presentamos una aportación fundada en los tres tipos de pensamiento -deducción, inducción y abducción- que rigen el conocimiento humano. Según desarrollamos en esta investigación, los videojuegos se distinguen del cine justamente por constituirse como un espacio ideal para el desarrollo del pensamiento hipotético, base de cualquier innovación en el ámbito del conocimiento. Para llevar a cabo nuestros propósitos, hemos partido de los estudios de Peirce sobre los tres modos de inferencia existentes.

En aquest article avaluarem la situació de la indústria televisiva a Espanya a partir de l'anàlisi dels principals agents implicats en el seu desenvolupament. Les amenaces a la seva hegemonia com a mitjà referent són ja una realitat: la fragmentació d'audiències ha obligat a reconfigurar les aliances entre grups a fi de mantenir la seva rendibilitat. El procés ha estat dut a terme emparat per la pròpia llei. L'espectador ha fet seva la televisió convertint-se en el seu propi programador a través del visionat de continguts al moment i lloc desitjats. No obstant això, encara que els informes sobre el futur de la televisió preveien una major presència de la televisió connectada, les cadenes generalistes espanyoles van aconseguir fites en consum de televisió en 2012. Destacarem el moment paradoxal que viu la televisió a Espanya, amb un abast i un consum sense precedents però amb greus amenaces per al seu finançament. La crisi econòmica ha estat el principal fre per a l'expansió de tecnologies, dispositius, aplicacions i infraestructures. De forma paral·lela, les polítiques de comunicació han estat escassament previsoras i es revelen improvisades i no preparades als nous models de televisió. La revisió de la situació de la indústria televisiva a Espanya revela que el desenvolupament dels mitjans està subordinat als contextos econòmic, cultural i social.

El calificativo de «cine de acción» para el modelo más rentable del mainstream hegemónico se ha consolidado con el tiempo en el cine occidental e incluso ha llegado a penetrar otros mercados con inusitada fuerza, pero tal modelo se basa en la efectividad de una serie de normas no escritas que permiten los procesos de identificación espectatorial y el viaje inmóvil. El cine oriental nunca se supeditó a la normativización del occidental, de tal forma que generó materiales que otorgaban más protagonismo al espectador en el proceso fruitivo, toda vez que la participación crítica, distanciada, le permitía una mayor conciencia de sí. Con esta premisa, el texto pretende utilizar algunos rasgos del cine de Wong Kar-wai para manifestar la vigencia de un cine de sensaciones frente a un cine de acción.

Este artículo transcribe el informe enviado por monseñor Rossell y Arellano, arzobispo de Guatemala, a la Santa Sede en febrero de 1956, precedido de un análisis de la situación que lo originó: el enfrentamiento público del arzobispo con monseñor Verolino, el nuncio apostólico, para analizar de este modo la situación de una Iglesia que iniciaba un claro proceso de desarrollo marcado por la entrada masiva de clero y capital extranjero y el entendimiento con el Gobierno, por primera vez desde la Revolución Liberal de 1871.

El análisis marxista tuvo, en las décadas de 1970 y 1980, un amplio reconocimiento dentro de la antropología social. En la actualidad, a pesar de los cambios experimentados por esta disciplina y de la crisis del marxismo, un grupo significativo de antropólogos sigue afirmando su vigencia y legitimidad. El presente trabajo trata de explicar las condiciones en las que se produjo el reconocimiento y la afirmación de la perspectiva marxista en la antropología social; expone los rasgos que la caracterizan y la distinguen del resto; trata de precisar las razones por las que sigue vigente, y explica el modo en que debe asumirse y seguirse en la actualidad.

Como toda confrontación armada, el proceso de paz en Colombia en medio del conflicto tiene lógicas estratégicas tanto de la subversión como de los militares, las cuales se ponen en el juego de una racionalidad subyacente a las desafortunadas e ineludibles dinámicas de odios y venganzas. Al presente artículo lo anima una reflexión intelectual sobre tales lógicas, con una tesis distinta a la de la opinión generalizada, en la que se tratará de argumentar que la posición del gobierno no es tan débil o inerme frente a las FARC en la guerra de posiciones y la confrontación con un enemigo único.

Este artículo intenta construir un marco metodológico para la interpretación del proyecto modernizador y el movimiento estudiantil universitario en Santander, a partir del propio contexto histórico regional, entre los años cincuentas y setentas, con el fin de establecer tanto los elementos distintivos de este proceso como los eventualmente comunes con otras regiones. Este proceso, que se vivió con toda su intensidad en Santander y que alcanzaría una dimensión nacional por la importancia del proyecto industrial universitario y por las repercusiones de las propias revueltas estudiantiles, no ha sido lo suficientemente estudiado con el fin de aproximarse al conflicto y violencia en la universidad colombiana. Un propósito, por demás, nada fácil si se tiene en cuenta que se intenta explicar una etapa de la historia contemporánea del país en la cual la mayoría de sus protagonistas viven y tienen sus propios puntos de vista sobre tiempos aún tan intensos y cercanos.
