Microorganisms are ubiquitous in nature and are central to human, animal, environmental, and planetary health. They play a particularly important role in the food chain and the production of high-quality, safe, and health-promoting foods, especially fermented foods. This important role is not always apparent to members of the public. Here, we describe Kefir4All, a citizen science project designed to provide the general public with an opportunity to expand their awareness, knowledge, and practical skills relating to microbiology, introduced through the medium of producing fermented food, i.e., milk kefir or water kefir. During the course of Kefir4All, 123 citizen scientists, from second-level school and non-school settings, participated in a study to track changes in the microbial composition of kefirs, by performing and recording details of milk kefir or water kefir fermentations they performed in their homes or schools over the21-week project. At the start of the study, the citizen scientists were provided with milk or water kefir grains to initiate the fermentations. Both types of kefir grain are semi-solid, gelatinous-like substances, composed of exopolysaccharides and proteins, containing a symbiotic community of bacteria and yeast. The experimental component of the project was complemented by a number of education and outreach events, including career talks and a site visit to our research center (Kefir Day). At the end of the study, a report was provided to each citizen scientist, in which individualized results of their fermenting activities were detailed. A number of approaches were taken to obtain feedback and other insights from the citizen scientists. Evaluations took place before and after theKefir4All project to gauge the citizen scientist's self-reported awareness, knowledge, and interest in microbiology and fermented foods. Further insights into the level of citizen science participation were gained through assessing the number of samples returned for analysis and the level of participation of the citizen scientists throughout the project. Notably, the survey results revealed a self-reported, increased interest in, and general knowledge of, science among the Kefir4All citizen scientists after undertaking the project and a willingness to take part in further citizen science projects. Ultimately, Kefir4Allrepresents an example of the successful integration of citizen science into existing education and research systems.

The importance of enhancing social and emotional skills in educational settings has gained prominence, with many countries and organizations embracing the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) framework to equip individuals with the tools needed for shaping a self-identity, emotional regulation, goal achievement, empathy, nurturing relationships, and responsible decision-making and overall well-being. In this paper, we aim to connect the globally acknowledged Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning SEL framework with international policies that underscore the importance of social and emotional skills in the school context. To accomplish this goal, we first provide a brief overview of the key components of the SEL framework. Subsequently, we explore two significant educational policies within the European context. The first policy is the World Health Organization Health Promoting Schools initiative. We present its objectives, a WHO-affiliated program example, the promoted and assessed competencies of students, and its results, connecting its framework with the CASEL SEL approach. The second focus is the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Study on Social and Emotional Skills, describing its developmental process and the assessment framework. Finally, we describe the alignment of SEL with these European educational policies and illustrate their role in advancing and improving the evaluation of SEL initiatives in educational environments.

Teachers are at high risk of voice disorders due to the heavy vocal demand of their profession as well as diverse classroom conditions that can stress the voice. Healthy vocal hygiene practices reduce this risk, but many teachers lack knowledge in these areas or have misconceptions about ways to improve their vocal health. This study aimed to identify knowledge deficits among teachers, and directly address topics with poorest performance to better generate vocal health resources for teachers and improve their overall vocal health.

Each August, Sugpiaq Elders, community members, and educators gather in Cape Alitak to host Akhiok Kids Camp, a week-long culture camp that provides a space for local Sugpiaq youth to learn and carry forward traditional lifeways and promotes youth's self-esteem, identity, and healthy choices. This article traces the legacy of the camp and outlines its ongoing vision and curriculum, including the Indigenous values and principles of education that guide camp activities. Of particular focus is the role of camp in fostering Sugpiaq youth's sense of connectedness to their homelands, waters, community, and culture, a focus that promotes healing, cultural resurgence, and wellbeing for Sugpiaq youth. This description of Akhiok Kids Camp highlights the valuable role that culture camps play in turning Indigenous youth toward the brilliance of their lands and lifeways, and the importance of respecting the knowledge and leadership of Indigenous families in this work.

There is a clear need for highly competent health sciences experts. No instrument currently exists for assessing the generic competences of health sciences students. The aim of this study is to develop and psychometrically test the Health sciences Generic Competence (HealthGenericCom) instrument. The instrument development four step process has been conducted with a cross-sectional study design and according to the COSMIN guidelines. Face and content validity was tested by 13 experts, structural validity was tested with exploratory factor analysis, and internal consistency was evaluated by calculating Cronbach's alpha. The structural validity was tested using data from Finnish health sciences students (n=276). The content validity index of the whole HealthGenericCom instrument was 1 for relevance and for clarity. Using exploratory factor analysis a model of eight factors (with 88 items) was created: 1) competence in leadership, administration, and finance; 2) competence in people-centred guidance; 3) competence in health promotion; 4) competence in evidence-based practice; 5) digital competence; 6) competence in work well-being and self-management; 7) competence in collaboration and problem-solving; and 8) competence in societal interaction. The HealthGenericCom was shown to be valid and reliable and provides an evidence-based conceptual framework that can be used in developing curriculums and competence management.

4-H academics responded to the COVID pandemic by rapidly adapting CDC and other resources for virtual delivery. A statewide epidemiology project was taught to 48 youth with the goal of minimizing fears and confusion, increasing prevention measures, leveraging current topics for education, and bolstering the social-emotional health of youth participants. Results indicated that youth enjoyed the project and adopted behaviors to reduce the spread of infectious diseases, such as increased mask-wearing.

This study investigates the patterns of promoting physical activity among residents in Mueang District, Mahasarakham Province, Thailand. It explores the impact of contemporary societal shifts, such as increased reliance on technology and decreased physical labor, on public health. The research identifies the rise of chronic diseases due to lifestyle changes and the need for preventive strategies emphasizing physical activity. Utilizing a questionnaire, the study analyzes residents' knowledge, awareness, motivation, and practices regarding health promotion through physical exercise. The findings reveal high general knowledge and awareness of health benefits but low levels of physical activity practice, influenced by lifestyle and societal changes. The study emphasizes the importance of tailored health promotion strategies and the role of digital platforms in enhancing physical activity awareness and participation. This research contributes to understanding effective methods to promote physical activity and addresses the health challenges faced by the local population, promoting sustainable physical and mental health.

Greater Hazelwood, a neighborhood located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, saw a decline in residents, businesses, and services at the steel industry's decline. Residents, philanthropic organizations, advocates, health centers, schools, universities, and community-based organizations continue collaborating to revitalize the Greater Hazelwood neighborhood by following the Greater Hazelwood Neighborhood Plan. Duquesne University Center for Integrative Health was engaged by a place-based grant-making strategy in Greater Hazelwood to explore the creation of a collaborative partnership between a university, federally qualified health center, school, residents, and community-based organizations to create a framework to improve access to comprehensive and quality healthcare in Greater Hazelwood. This collaboratively designed health and wellness programs based on community-identified health priorities to improve health outcomes. These programs provide opportunities for multi-sector partners and interdisciplinary health professionals to meet residents where they are, decrease disease disparity, and promote health equity.

Reading nutrition facts labels is a competency for which training is given in several nutrition education programs, especially in obesity outreach workshops. The Top Trumps-style card game is commonly used in obesity prevention educational programs to engage participants in reading nutrition facts labels; however, the success of TV cooking shows among children and teenagers has not been explored for educational purposes. This paper is a descriptive study of developing a gamified activity as part of the one-time outreach workshop facilitated by the Obesity and Comorbidities Research Center (OCRC) in Brazil. By playing the MestreChef Nutritional (MCN) game, participants followed similar rules as the corresponding TV cooking show. They were challenged to decide to select food items, calculate dietary food intake, and prepare a recipe to visualize the proportion of macronutrients contained in daily diets. The analysis of the nutritional dietary table completed by participants revealed to be a rich source of information, and we identified in our cohort that selecting an adequate number of food items and making healthy food choices was not concerning. However, their lack of competency in performing mathematical reasoning, particularly in calculating serving sizes and converting grams of macronutrients into calories, was evident. Moreover, facilitators of the workshops agreed that the MCN game presents definitively more didactic effectiveness and playability than the Foods Top Trumps, a former game used in the outreach workshops. The MCN game nourishes the engagement of the participants in learning nutrition-related concepts and may be an efficient didactic resource to improve nutrition knowledge in outreach activities when an alternative method is required to stimulate reading nutrition facts labels.

We offered an enrichment program for high school students with the theme, "The Environment, Health, and You" during the Summer of 2022 and the Spring of 2023. We developed several educational modules for high school students that provided them with an opportunity to learn and explore the foundations of physiological systems, nutrient needs to maintain health, and the impact that environmental factors can have on them. The modules included videos, discussion boards, games, readings, and labs. These modules were integrated into the first session: Your Body and Health. On "day 1," the first module explored the basic physiology and anatomy of the body with respect to the organization of cells into organ systems. Additionally, the educational content included information on macro- and micronutrients and their impact on body development, nutrition, and metabolism. The nutrition module explored nutrition concepts and various factors that can impact healthy eating patterns, such as food insecurity issues and the consumption of ultraprocessed foods. A lab activity on label reading was included to help empower students to make healthy choices. A total of 43 high school students participated in the program. Overall, the quality of the educational content in the modules was rated highly by the students, and they indicated that the educational experience inspired them to learn more about the physiology and nutrition concepts associated with human metabolism, and the importance of healthy food choices to maintain health.

Social media plays a significant role in adolescents' lives, with both positive and negative effects. Implementing interventions to mitigate the negative aspects and enhance the positive ones could improve adolescents' well-being. Unfortunately, there is a scarcity of evidence-based interventions available. To fill this gap, we have developed a school-based program based on combining evidence-based and consensus-based approaches, incorporating input from adolescents, school personnel, researchers, and municipal advisers. This paper describes the program's content and principles, and presents the results from a pilot evaluation, which assesses feedback from pupils and teachers, thereby informing potential enhancements and the program's overall significance. The intervention description encompasses theoretical perspectives, behavior change techniques, and procedural details. Pupils (n = 266; 16+ years) evaluated the program concerning satisfaction, relevance, importance, and usefulness through a questionnaire. Additionally, exploratory focus group interviews were conducted with seven teachers and eleven pupils to gather their perspectives on the program's relevance, impact, and potential changes to the theme-based teaching. Results from the pilot showed an average score of 7.3/10 for overall satisfaction with the program. Sub-questions assessing perceived relevance, engagement, and usefulness averaged between 6.7 and 7.5. Gender differences were observed, with boys tending to rate the program lower than girls. In focus group interviews, the pupils expressed increasing awareness of their own and others' social media use, that the topic was important and exciting, and that the program generally worked well. The pupils' evaluation indicates the need for this kind of program described in this study.

In the last two years, a growing number of studies have focused on the promotion of students' mental health to address the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, less studies have been conducted on sustaining teachers' mental health which has been affected by the sudden changes in online teaching and the difficulties in keeping and building relationship with students. Even before the pandemic, teaching has long been recognised as one of the most challenging occupations characterized by high levels of stress. Although the research highlighted the key role of mental health promotion among teachers, there is still a lack of programs enhancing teachers' wellbeing. This study examined the impact of the PROMEHS program, a school-based curriculum, on teachers' mental health. A total of 687 teachers participated in the study. Applying a pre- and post-training study design with experimental and waiting list groups, teachers were evaluated in social and emotional learning, resilience, and self-efficacy. The results showed that there was a significant improvement in all competences of the teachers in the experimental group compared to those in the waiting list group. The paper discusses the implications of the findings with recommendations for further studies in the area.

It is important for high school female students, to be familiar with their own bodies and regularly examine their own breasts to check for any changes that could potentially be indicative of breast cancer. It is important to educate students about breast self-examination (BSE) as a means of detecting potential breast cancer early. A quasi-experimental pre and post-test design were implemented to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational program on high school female students by comparing the knowledge level obtained before and after the conduction of the educational program. The sociodemographic results of this study found that before conducting the educational program, a large number of participants (76.5%) had poor knowledge about BSE, but after the conduction of the educational program, there was a significant increase in knowledge, with 90.2% showing a positive effect of the program. The test of significance revealed that the increase in BSE knowledge score as a result of the educational program was highly significant (P < 0.000).

This paper presents a historical account of conceptual development at the intersection of American education and health. Beginning with early advancements from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the World Health Organization, the authors show the movement from early considerations of the codependency of health and education. The authors suggest that more than fifty years of theoretical innovations at the nexus of health and education culminated in the 2014 introduction of "Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child" (WSCC). At the same time, the authors show that the trajectory of this movement was far from linear. In addition to explaining why WSCC is in many ways a critical revision of the social determinants model that serves today as a promising foundation of American school-based health, the authors examine opportunities and challenges that the pivot towards WSCC presents. Three particular areas are explored: assessment, funding, and collaboration.

The academic journey to become a professional counselor can be challenging for counselors-in-training (CIT), adversely affecting their physical health, mental health, and wellness. Counselor educators (CE) have recognized a need for wellness training and interventions to assist CIT during graduate school and to prepare them for their careers. Photography is considered a tool in art therapy within the realm of expressive therapies that can be used for wellness purposes. We review wellness, CIT struggles with wellness, expressive therapies, and photography techniques to promote CIT professional development and wellness practices. We identify the history of photography tools, describe each tool more precisely, and provide examples of how they can aid CIT in addressing their health and wellness and increasing their knowledge and use of photography as a wellness tool with future clients. We discuss practice and research implications for CE and CIT.

Out-of-school time (OST) programs that work with historically marginalized youth, employ staff that match the demographics of participants, and are well connected to mental health resources are uniquely positioned to support participants to recognize the risks and assets linked to their mental health and well-being. Such programs can simultaneously address career readiness, exposing youth to mental health professionals and career pathways and thereby nurturing the future bilingual-bicultural mental health workforce. This article evaluates the Latino Service Providers (LSP) Youth Promotor Internship program, which was launched in response to the steady increase of the Latinx population in Sonoma County and an attendant concern for ongoing mental health disparities.

This qualitative case study explored the influence that service-learning involvement has on undergraduate college students' cognitive, environmental, and behavioral factors related to nutrition. Utilizing the major constructs of the social cognitive theory, the research questions guided the investigation of how participants in a previously established nutrition service-learning course described their cognitive, environment, and behavioral influences related to nutrition throughout the course. Participants also described their nutrition self-efficacy after participating in a service-learning nutrition course. Participants described their experiences through a pre-post survey, reflections, and voluntary interviews. Based on these constructs, this service-learning course was found to improve knowledge, awareness, values, and behaviors related to nutrition for all study participants. Findings show positive changes in nutrition-related self-efficacy, especially related to the meaning-making experience of the service-learning. Results from this study suggest that intentional reflection questions related to health behavior factors in health-based service-learning courses may be utilized to influence behavioral outcomes.

This study aims to identify the use of social networking sites by Jordanian university students to spread health awareness about the dangers of drugs. This study followed the descriptive analytical approach, and a questionnaire was developed to match the study dimensions. The study population consisted of students from the University of Jordan, who were randomly selected (600 males and females). The study showed a significant effect of the University of Jordan students' use of social networking sites in spreading awareness about the danger of drugs. Also, there was a statistically significant difference at [alpha] = 0.05 for the Jordanian university students' use of social networking sites in spreading awareness about drug dangers. In addition, there were differences in the respondents' answers to the questionnaire due to the gender variable in favor of males. Furthermore, the results showed no differences according to the school year variable. In light of the current results, the study confirms the need to use social media to spread health awareness about the dangers of drugs, especially among students, because of the great damage to their health and society. Especially, university students are the educated group in society, and they have the role of educating others, not drug addiction.

Type 2 diabetes is a complex disease with several modifiable lifestyle factors. The Extension 'Live well, Eat well, be Active with Diabetes' curriculum provides four 90-minute sessions teaching individuals to live well, eat well, and be active with diabetes. Fourteen Extension educators implemented and evaluated the curriculum with 107 participants. Participants reported the program helped them feel better able to take care of their health. We observed significant differences in participants' retrospective pre and post 'Live well,' 'Eat well' and 'be Active' total scores. Extension has a unique opportunity to educate individuals so they may better manage their diabetes.

Research suggests participating in youth hands-on cooking programs, like those offered by Extension and 4-H, can improve nutrition behaviors and reduce the risk for obesity. We surveyed Georgia Extension professionals (n = 127) to explore factors (e.g., employee characteristics, resources, county demographics) related to offering youth hands-on cooking programs and curricula used. Over 2/3 of participants offer programs and reported creating their own curriculum. More years of experience, having received Extension Specialist training, and increased confidence were positively related to offering these programs. Results suggest training could increase confidence and program implementation and standard curricula may be needed/

A family-skills program for Latino fathers and youth was implemented to prevent youth obesity. Lessons learned focused on practices to address barriers to engagement and retention among fathers and youth within the Latino community. Program development issues included selection of organizations, facilitators, language, and delivery methods. Implementation issues included timing and location. Cultural issues regarding learner needs, and teaching and implementation methods need to be considered. Using the lessons learned, Extension professionals can create impactful programs that engage and retain Latino fathers and youth.

Student wellbeing is regarded as a salient priority across higher education. Given the growing participation of higher education students in work-integrated learning, it is important to explore how student wellbeing is being supported in this critical learning environment. While student wellbeing must be considered across all educational contexts, wellbeing may be most challenged when working and learning online. The purpose of this research, therefore, was to explore ways in which student wellbeing is supported by program coordinators when students are engaging in online work-integrated learning (eWIL). Seventeen program coordinators across Canada were interviewed and data were analyzed thematically. Thematic analysis generated three main themes: program coordinators' perspectives on their role in supporting student wellbeing, wellbeing supports offered to students engaged in WIL, and intersectional considerations for supporting student wellbeing. These findings advance the discussion of innovative and tailored approaches needed to support student wellbeing in online work-integrated learning environments.

Various investigations have applied meditation protocols in the school context, with beneficial effects. Transcendental meditation, however, received little attention in primary school settings and few controlled studies are available. The present study is aimed: 1) to investigate the implementation of a school protocol (Quiet Time-QT) based on Transcendental Meditation ™ in a primary school setting 2) to test its efficacy in promoting strengths and resilience in children, using a controlled research, with a cross over design. 92 students attending fourth and fifth class of a primary school were assigned to either the QT intervention, or to a waiting list condition. Children assigned to the waiting list received the QT protocol after few months. Before and after the intervention children were evaluated by their teachers using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA). A Repeated Measures MANOVA was applied to compare the two groups. After the QT intervention children in the experimental condition showed fewer emotional and behavioral difficulties (SDQ) compared to children in the waiting list. An overall positive effect of QT was observed in the total sample in improving children's strengths and emotional well-being. Participants enjoyed the practice of meditation in the school setting. Conclusions: the results of this controlled investigation showed that the QT school protocol is feasible in the school setting, and it yielded improvements in children's strengths and well-being. Meditation programs could be easily included in the educational system to sustain children positive development.

Samoa's educational response to COVID-19 was impeded by human and physical obstacles largely because the new educational technologies and strategies that came into effect to support teaching and learning had not been trialled nor implemented well to date. During COVID-19, the Samoan government emphasised the importance of social distancing and lockdown as health safety measures necessary for the welfare of all, but these changed learning and teaching for students and teachers and impacted daily organisation and operations for these people, and schools. Samoa's limited physical and human resources affected schools' lockdown and teaching and learning. Responses to COVID-19 called for teachers' improved understanding of educational technology and its utilisation. The Ministry of Education, Sports, and Culture (MESC) acted immediately to activate online learning in response to COVID-19 and the government's lock-down policy. Familiarising teachers and students with online support and acquiring appropriate computer skills were Samoa's immediate educational goals. Nevertheless, the children of families without access to resources like computers and the Internet were the most affected. It is acknowledged that for citizens to survive COVID-19 it was vital to adopt appropriate health safety measures, although it is also important to ensure that no student's educational progress is negatively impacted. Teacher upgraders studying for the Bachelor of Education primary teaching in the Faculty of Education at the National University of Samoa (NUS) were the participants.

While the conversation in honors about the mental health of students has persisted for over two decades, authors identify a marked increase in the need for student mental health support since the first Generation Z students entered college in 2015. A review of literature in honors indicates upticks in discourse relating to mental health (tn = 66) since 2004, and content analysis shows peaks in publication for 2018 and 2021 (n [not equal to] 11, respectively). This study describes a peer coaching program that focuses on the holistic wellness and support of honors students. Authors observe a decrease in Behavioral Intervention Team meetings and suicide attempts since the program's inception in 2015. Programmatic details, including application and selection, training, expectations of peer coaches, assessment, and improvement initiatives are included so that similar programs can be implemented in and beyond honors.

This article describes how evaluators and stakeholders could combine their expertise to collaboratively evaluate a program designed to promote mental health in the school environment. The program, called Youth Mental Health First Aid USA (YMHFA), was designed to help young people cope with the early stages of mental health concerns. Specifically, the desired short-term outcomes of this evaluation were to (a) communicate the effectiveness of the program, and (b) determine the effectiveness of the eight-hour training. Data was collected from a survey questionnaire to staff members. Descriptive statistics were used to inform recommendations for the next steps in the development of the program. The Model for Collaborative Evaluations (MCE) was selected in this formative evaluation to actively engage the key stakeholders as collaboration members throughout the evaluation process. Implications for using the MCE in evaluating the mental health program are discussed. Overall, responses showed that the implementation of the mental health program impacted participants' schools positively.

Background and Aim: Over the past three years of the COVID-19 pandemic, both the external sports environment for youth physical exercise and the national education policy landscape have undergone significant changes. In light of these developments and to align with physical education instruction in the next era, ensuring high-quality physical education, and promoting the physical fitness of young individuals, this study aims to construct a physical education instructional model "CISSO" (collaborate, input, school, student, output) to better regulate and optimize the process of physical education learning management and improving the quality of learning management. Methods: This study was future research conducted with phase 1 exploring the problem by reviewing literature and 5 experts through Semi-structured interviews, the PESTEL model, and the SIPOC model to analyze influencing factors, to drat physical education instructional concept model; phase 2 by questionnaires and modified Delphi to construct physical education instructional model "CISSO"; phase 3 connoisseurship to determine and evaluate the rationality of the CISSO model. Results: The CISSO Model contains factors of Collaborate, Input, School, Student, and Output such as: (1) Collaborate: a collaborative educational approach guided by the government, led by schools, and supported by social organizations and families. (2) Input: The key to governing school physical education management is to take more measures to increase comprehensive "Input" in school physical education learning. (3) School: The CISSO model places a significant emphasis on aligning with the Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition), and revolves around key components such as "learning, practicing, competing, and evaluation," resulting in a new and cohesive state of physical education. (4) Student: accentuates the subjectivity of students, with a pronounced focus on fostering their psychological development through sports education, thereby progressively instilling positive exercise routines. (5) Output: It holds the promise of driving improvements in students' physical abilities and fostering a greater sense of contentment among parents with the school's physical education initiatives. Conclusion: By implementing the CISSO model, educators and policymakers can gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies involved in managing physical education during the next era of education. The findings from this study will aid in making informed and wise decisions, enabling the formulation of effective strategies to optimize the learning experience of students in this dynamic educational landscape.

Service-learning models serve as noteworthy curriculum paradigms that can help students engage with their communities while continuously learning. This article recounts the implementation of a service-learning model within a student initiative aimed to help combat vaccine hesitancy and promote the uptake of vaccinations within the Rhode Island community. Through a collaborative effort between students, faculty, and the university, the student initiative was able to construct a credit-bearing course to help assess and alleviate vaccine hesitancy within Rhode Island. This article highlights the journey the organization took to develop a service-learning model within the course, the project details, and the impact of their project on the community. A detailed analysis of the service-learning model's impact on students as well as key takeaways of the project are also highlighted below.

As an integral part of the concept of lifelong learning, non formal learning enables adults to acquire the necessary skills to adapt more easily to the ever-changing social life. Concerned with these values, through the lens of the ODD, with reference to Health and well-being, which indicates "ensuring a healthy life and promoting well-being for all ages", we wanted to investigate a group of teachers who followed a training program aimed at the healthy lifestyle of the educable. Healthy lifestyle education can play a significant role in changing health behaviors and attitudes towards our own health, as well as those we educate. Teachers become not only mentors for children, but also role models. Starting from this concept, we want to find out if the learners are able to include health-promoting behaviors in their daily routine and if they implement strategies that promote health, well-being, for themselves, including the learners. A number of N=63 teaching staff from Ia?i county, located in the north-eastern part of Romania, participated in this study. Of these, a number of N=35 respondents teach at the preschool education level and a number of N=28 at the primary education level. All respondents are female, of whom N=49 teach in urban areas, and N=14 in rural areas. The research tools were applied in electronic version, using Google forms. The obtained data were statistically analyzed using IBM SPSS software. Findings indicate significant effects of the training program on all target variables. The results of this research will be used to add to our knowledge of behavioral change and learning in adulthood.

Living an active lifestyle is one way to living a healthier life. The purpose of this review was to analyse empirical studies that show how schools can effectively promote active lifestyles for their students. Using online databases, a total of 15 empirical studies were found, all published from 2012 to 2022. The findings of this review highlight effective practices for active lifestyle promotion such as school-wide policies, interventions, encouraging participation in extracurricular sports, and increasing physical education time. This review also provides insight into some current issues that are present and how promoting active lifestyles in New Zealand schools can help address these.

This literature review investigates the perception of secondary teachers about their role of supporting and promoting students' mental health and whether teachers feel equipped to fulfil the requirements of this role. Analysis of 13 research articles published between 2008-2022 indicated that most secondary teachers, across five countries, understand the role they play in their students' lives and that supporting students' mental health is an aspect of their role. However, it was also found that many teachers do not feel well-prepared to adequately support students' mental health due to a lack of adequate mental health training. Implications for practice, training, and future research within an Aotearoa New Zealand context are discussed in relation to schools and teachers providing support to students with mental health concerns and the promotion of positive mental health.

Adolescent smoking is dangerous. This study examined the self-assessment of risk factors to expose student teachers to smoking, compared the scores of health belief model structures in experimental and control groups, and summarized the poster and slogan campaign to prevent smoking. The experimental and control groups (n=30 each) were selected using eligibility criteria and simple random sampling. Three-part questionnaires were used to collect information that was analyzed based on mean, minimum, maximum, percentage, and paired sample t-test data. The key findings were: 1) student teachers in the experimental and control groups had smoked 1-2 cigarettes in the past (20% and 6.67%, respectively). In addition, for both the groups, cigarettes were readily available at convenience stores in residential areas (63.34% and 83.34%, respectively), their fathers smoked (16.67% and 20%, respectively), and their peers persuaded them to smoke (16.67 % and 23.30 %, respectively); 2) the health belief model demonstrated that both the experimental and control groups at 8 weeks had comparable pre-post findings for susceptibility (p=0.000 and p=0.049, respectively), perceived severity (p=0.000 and p=0.063, respectively), perceived benefits (p=0.000 and p=0.065, respectively), perceived barriers (p=0.000 and p=0.703, respectively), and cure to action (p=0.000 and p=0.070, respectively); and 3) The main study "Online Health Education Program to Prevent Tobacco Use for Student Teachers during COVID-19 Pandemic in Thailand: Design, Challenges, and Outcomes" worked on anti-smoking posters and slogans. The 8-week education program with events could enhance experimental group health beliefs. Thus, student teacher smoking prevention efforts should incorporate posters and slogans.

Introduction: In 2021, leaders in Birmingham, Alabama established one of the first LGBTQ-affirming charter schools in the United States to serve students who have dropped out, are not thriving in traditional schools, or are enrolled in home-school programs. Methods: Using deductive analysis, our research team filtered data through the five pre-defined themes of the Youth Thrive Framework: (a) youth resilience, (b) social connections, (c) knowledge of adolescent development, (d) concrete support in times of need, and (e) cognitive and social-emotional competence. Results: Study findings suggest that MCAA's innovative and adaptive approaches to curriculum, discipline, and student engagement align with the tenets of the Youth Thrive Framework. Conclusion: While the Youth Thrive Framework was originally designed in the context of the foster care system, we believe the five protective and promotive factors that comprise the framework may be applied to other contexts, such as educational settings, to support health promoting behavior.

This study investigated adolescent students' nutritional knowledge in boarding schools and potential strategies for improving their nutritional status in the Ido-Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. The researcher used purposive sampling to select three government colleges and private college boarding schools in the Ido-Osi Local Government area. The sample consisted of 80 boarding house students. Data was collected using a questionnaire, and the statistical analysis involved frequency and percentages. The findings revealed that a good percentage of the boarding school students have good nutritional knowledge. The majority of students believed that both the Federal and State Government, as well as schools, parents, and communities, should work together to improve the food system in order to combat nutritional challenges in boarding schools. Thus, the study recommends that the Government, parents, schools, and communities collaborate to address any nutrition issues among adolescent students in boarding schools. This could involve initiatives such as establishing school gardens and providing support to local farmers, among other strategies. Future research should aim to enhance our understanding of adolescent students' nutritional knowledge in boarding schools and develop effective strategies to improve their nutritional status. This will contribute to the overall health and well-being of these students during their critical developmental years.

Student counselling centres are struggling to meet the demand for mental health services, which has intensified in recent years. This challenge calls for innovative ways to address the mental health needs of students. During the COVID-19 pandemic the peer helpers at Emthonjeni Student Wellness at Nelson Mandela University facilitated innovative psycho-educational workshops, virtually. In reflecting on our journey, we realise our peer helpers were at the forefront of mental health promotion initiatives at a time when many of our students were in dire need of support. The workshops sensitised students to the importance of their mental health. Furthermore, the content discussed in the workshops offered valuable insights and tips on how students could manage various challenges. These tips could be applied, by participating students, to improve their coping and overall well-being before their mental health deteriorated. These peer-led initiatives expanded our reach and capacity during a period of great stress brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, and they will continue to do so beyond the pandemic. This reflective article shares the details of our virtual workshops and the insights gained from the process.

Language politeness is considered one of the defining characteristics of Indonesian society. In the age of global communication and computing, moderate politeness, centered on politeness of opinion, politeness in deliberation, and politeness in respecting the opinions of others, is an important factor. However, progressive politeness in Urban Muhammadiyah Primary School is becoming a growing concern that requires special attention. The purpose of this study was to examine this violation in the interactions between learners, teachers, and principals in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a case study design. The data were collected from interviews, observations, and documentation. Interviews were conducted with classroom teachers, principals, and learners, while observations were recorded through field notes and reflections. Moreover, audio-visual documentation in the form of photographs, videos, and recordings during the learning processes and interactions between learners or teachers were utilized. Data collection was based on four strategies: observation, interview, documents, and audio-visual, as outlined in Creswell's theory. Validity was examined using data triangulation, member checking, prolonged duration of data collection, repeated observations in the study location, and peer examination. The findings of the study include a) There was a violation of the politeness through bullying, body shaming, and verbal abuse, which violated the principles of appreciation and sympathy. b) Urban Muhammadiyah Primary School helped promote language politeness through several methods, including performing Duha prayers, morning recitation with assistance from the teacher and principal, and teacher role modelling by arriving at school at 06.15 and reciting Asmaul Husna together. Importantly, these efforts positively affected the politeness of the learners. This study provides an update on the assistance given to learners to address impoliteness, including Duha prayers, morning recitation, and memorization of Al-Qur'an and Asmaul Husna assisted by teachers. Moreover, the school has a well equipped School Health Unit (SHU) to promote a healthy, clean, disciplined, and polite lifestyle. Appeals are made through persuasive and affectionate books and direct assistance from teachers as role models. The study of the Quran and Asmaul Husna demonstrates children's moderate politeness in expressing their opinions. The agreement to develop a joint discipline demonstrates the children's moderate politeness in deliberation.
