Eugene F. Corrigan, one of the veterans in college sports and an indispensable member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), is the new president of NCAA. He has played an important role in restructuring the NCAA and has been a part of various important committees which mediated controversial matters. College presidents have been dissatisfied with his appointment as the post of the president often goes to them.

Cedric W. Dempsey, athletic director of the Univ of Arizona and elected successor to Richard D. Schultz as the NCAA's new executive director, promised further reform of college reports. Dempsey, who will be NCAA's third executive director, plans to increase the availability of academic support and financial aid to athletics and to integrate athletics and academic in colleges.

Rudy Washington, executive director of the Black Coaches Association, wants to focus on the NCAA's effort to change the discriminatory policies of the college sports organization. He challenges the recruitment process for a new NCAA executive director since the list of finalists did not include a member of the minority group. A few college officials believe that the selection process was not unbiased and thorough.

Cedric W. Dempsey, athletics director at the University of Arizona, was selected to head the NCAA as its executive director. Some preferred a presidential system or a chief executive head for the association. Dempsey was the athletic director at the University of Houston when it was punished for violating NCAA rules, but was absolved of all charges. Former NCAA executive director was forced to resign when his integrity was under suspicion, and it is feared a similar situation may occur again at the NCAA.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association is seeking a new executive director, after the former post-holder resigned due to allegations that he had known about rules violations at Virginia University whilst Director of Athletics. It is a difficult time for the association to employ a new executive director as a reform programme is underway, there is controversy over gender equity and cost containment and some sponsors are threatening to withdraw from programs if their wishes are not met.

Richard D. Schultz, executive director of the National Collegiate Athletic Assn, has resigned amid allegations that he was aware of rules violations at the University of Virginia during his tenure there as athletic director. Schultz was supported by the NCAA's governing board, but chose to bow out anyway to avoid damaging the association's credibility. He is credited with reviving the NCAA reform movement and restoring public trust in the organization.

The next executive director of the NCAA will bring to the NCAA both rich experience and the inevitable undesirable traits, but all of the finalists announced for the post are amply capable and efficient. They include the athletics director at the University of California at San Diego, Judith M. Sweet, former athletics director at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, William W. Cobey, the athletics director at the University of Arizona, Cedric W. Dempsey, and the chancellor of the University of Mississippi, R. Gerald Turner.

B.J. Skelton has withdrawn his candidacy as president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Skelton, the NCAA secretary-treasurer has been linked to alleged NCAA rule violations at Clemson University, where he is the dean of admissions and registration. Sports officials have demanded his withdrawal so as not to damage the NCAA's reputation. The NCAA has accused Clemson of falsely certifying the elegibility of a basketball player in 1989.
