Abstract
- Richard D. Schultz, executive director of the National Collegiate Athletic Assn, has resigned amid allegations that he was aware of rules violations at the University of Virginia during his tenure there as athletic director. Schultz was supported by the NCAA's governing board, but chose to bow out anyway to avoid damaging the association's credibility. He is credited with reviving the NCAA reform movement and restoring public trust in the organization.
