The syntheses of novel rigid dendritic ligands and their ruthenium complexes, in which 1,3,5-phenylene-based hydrocarbon dendron units were directly connected to a phenanthroline ligand at the 3 and 8 positions, are described. Preliminary absorption and fluorescence results are indicative of highly efficient energy transfer within the rigid metallodendrimers.
