The article presents the views of the journal's Editorial Advisory Board members on important ophthalmology advances and challenges in 2019. Dr. William W. Cubertson cites the femtosecond laser adjustable intraocular lens (IOL) development, and the approval of ReLEx SMILE for myopic astigmatism, while Dr. Pravin U. Dugel notes the brolucizumab treatment for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). However, Dr. Peter J. McDonnell also acknowledges the need for an accommodating IOL.
