We serendipitously designed one novel 1D hetero-binuclear Zn(II)-Pb(II) coordination polymer, namely [(Zn)(Pb)(L)(η1–NCS)(η1–SCN)]n (1) from Salen ligand (H3L) in the presence of NaSCN. The complex was structurally characterized by elemental, IR, Raman, NMR spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscope, Powder X-ray diffraction, and Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD). The heteronuclear complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 4. The asymmetric unit contains one deprotonated ligand (L2−). SCXRD comprises metal ions of Zn(II) and Pb(II), fulfilled perfect square bipyramidal and Hemi-directed coordination spheres. We accomplished DFT by three different level basis set B3LYP, HF, and M062X with Lanl2dz to delineate Frontier molecular orbital, the Global chemical parameters, and the molecular electrostatic potential. Hirshfeld surface carried out non-covalent interactions like hydrogen bonding. This bonding considered the possible supramolecular topographies due to the flexible aliphatic –OH group. Besides H/H, C/H/H/C and N/H/H/N also dominated the supramolecular network. Van der Waals interactions appear to be more prevalent in the molecular packaging of the complex. Molecular docking finds the plausible binding process by implanting the complex into the active site of the crystal structures of estrogen receptor protein, the VEGFR kinase (liver cancer) protein, and the allosteric Eya2 phosphatase inhibitor (lung cancer) protein. The essential binding process is the polar and hydrophobic exchanges, π–π interaction, hydrogen bonds, and halogen. Advanced Protein–Ligand Interaction Profiler crucially examined the interplay of the protein with complex. A two-dimensional (2D) barium(II) coordination polymer [Ba(H2O)(µ-H2O)(µ-Cl)(µ-2,3-pyHdc)]n (1) (2,3-pyHdc = pyridinium-2,3-dicarboxylate), was prepared by reaction of barium(II) chloride dihydrate and pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid in aqueous solution and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and TGA/DTA methods. The single-crystal X-ray structure analysis revealed that barium(II) ion in 1 has a distorted bicapped square-antiprismatic coordination geometry. The barium(II) ions are alternately bridged by the carboxylate O atoms only and by both carboxylate O atoms and water molecules, forming zig-zag chains of barium(II) ions extending along the [1 0 0] direction. All the barium(II) ions in these chains are also bridged by the chloride ions, resulting in the formation of an infinite 2D coordination network parallel to the (0 0 1) plane. Thermal decomposition of 1 in the presence of polyethylene glycol led to the formation of the BaCl2 nanoparticles. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the structure and morphology of the prepared BaCl2 nanoparticles. Two Cd(II) coordination polymers (CPs), namely {[Cd(L1)(mip)]·0.33H2O}n (1) and {[Cd(L2)(BDC-Cl4)]·1.35H2O}n (2) (H2mip = 5-methylisophthalic acid; L1 = 1,5-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)pentane; H2BDC-Cl4 = tetrachloroterephthalic acid; L2 = 1,2-bis(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-yl)benzene) were synthesized and characterized. 1 features a 3D pcu network, 2 displays a 2D (4,4) layer. Abstract: Two novel mercury(II) coordination polymers, two-dimensional [HgCl(2,3-pydcH)(H2O)]n (1) and one-dimensional [HgCl(2,5-pydcH)(DMF)]n (2) (2,3-pydcH2 = pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid; 2,5-pydcH2 = pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid), were prepared in the reactions of the corresponding pyridinedicarboxylic acid with mercury(II) chloride. Their structures were solved by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. Both 2,3-pydcH− and 2,5-pydcH− are partially deprotonated bridging ligands which display similar coordination modes, acting as N,O-bidentate and O’-monodentate ligands in the structures of 1 and 2, respectively. The presence of DMF in the reaction mixture led to the formation of a 1D coordination polymer, while a 2D coordination polymer was formed in the absence of DMF. Spectroscopic analysis of 1 and 2 was performed by IR spectroscopy in the solid state and by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy in the DMSO solutions. Thermal properties of the coordination polymers 1 and 2 were also investigated. Two new three-dimensional coordination polymers (H2NMe2)[Dy4(µ3−OH)4(NMF)3(H2O)(L1)3](H2O)2 (1, NMF = N-methylformamide, H3L1 = 3,5-bis(4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)phenoxy)benzoic acid) and [Cu(L2)2(H2O)](H2O)2 (2, H2L2 = 4-(4-pyridyl)-isophthalic acid) have been successfully prepared using two N,O-mixed donor organic ligands. The structures of these complexes have been successfully determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. A cadmium(II) coordination polymer, namely, [Cd2(3-bpcb)(1,2-pda)2(H2O)2] (1), was prepared by hydrothermal reaction of cadmium(II) chloride with 1,2-H2pda (H2pda = 1,2-phenylenediacetic acid) and a bis-pyridyl-bis-amide ligand (3-bpcb = N,N′-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,4-benzene). Complex 1 was structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, which shows a 2D layer structure with (42·6)(42·63·8) topology. In this work, Gd-based coordination polymer (GdCP) hollow spheres have been synthesized by a general, facile and template-free solvothermal strategy. The products were well characterized and analyzed. Results indicate that the uniform hollow nanospheres have diameters of 160-260 nm. Influential factors such as reaction temperature, time, and dosage of reagents on the morphology and size of the GdCP hollow spheres have been systematically investigated. An Ostwald ripening mechanism coupled with a self-assembly process for the hollow structures formation was proposed based on a series of time-dependent experiments. Employing the multicarboxylate and N-donor mixed ligands to react with Zn(NO)·6HO affords a new 3D compound [Zn(HBPTC)(bmp)(HO)]·2HO ( 1) (HBPTC = biphenyl-3,3′,4,4′-tetracarboxylic acid, bmp = 3,6-bis(imidazol-1-yl)pyridazine). Structural analyses show that compound 1 possesses a (4,4)-connected neutral framework bearing rare NbO-x-d subnets, and it represents the first replica of the theoretically predicted NbO-x-d/Im-3m→Imm2 topology net. Moreover, compound 1 can demonstrate the interesting reversible structural transformation property induced by water molecules. Two coordination polymers based on 3,5-bis(4-carboxyphenylmethyloxy) benzoic acid (HL), [M(HL)]·2HO M = Mn( 1), Co( 2), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and further characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and TGA. The two complexes possess 3D framework with diamond channels resulting from the trans-configuration of the flexible ligand and three coordination modes, (η, η), (η, η), η, of carboxyl groups in the ligand. Two coordination polymers (CPs), [Zn(L1)(Hbta)] (1) and [Co(L2)(ndc)]·0.75HO (2), (L1 = 1,6-(thiabendazole)hexane), L2 = 1,3-(thiabendazole)propane, Hbta = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid, Hndc = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. A novel one-dimensional Cd(II) coordination polymer (CP) based on mixed aromatic ligands was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and spectroscopic analyses. Fingerprint plots in Hirshfeld surface analysis illustrate that the one-dimensional crystal structure of the CP is stabilized by C-H···O, π···π, C-H···π, and H···H intermolecular interactions. The structural and photophysical properties of the CP were then investigated by time-dependent density functional theory methods, and computational results well reproduced the experimental data. The combined investigations found a ligand-to-ligand charge transfer character during the electrons relax from the first singlet excited state of the CP. The weak fluorescence of CP could be resulted from the energy interlacing of the frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs) of aromatic ligands and the fulfilled d configuration of Cd(II). Three d coordination polymers formulated as [Zn(L1)(mip)] ( 1), [Zn(L1)(2,6-ndc)] ( 2) and [Cd(L2)(bpdc)] ( 3) (L1 = 1,1′-(1,3-propanediyl)bis(thiabendazole), L2 = 1,1′-(1,6-hexanediyl)bis(thiabendazole), Hmip = 5-methylisophthalic acid, 2,6-Hndc = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, Hbpdc = 4,4′-biphenyldicarboxylic acid) were hydrothermally synthesized. Complexes 1- 3 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1 and 2 present different chain structures, both of them are extended into 2D supramolecular architectures via C-H···O hydrogen bonds, while 3 is a three-fold interpenetrating three-dimensional framework with binodal 4,4-connected mog topology. Uniform terbium coordination polymer microsphere particles are synthesized via a facile solvothermal method, using 3-methyl benzoic acid (3-MeBAH) as ligand. The products were characterized by SEM, PXRD, EA, FT-IR, downconversion and upconversion luminescence. PXRD result confirms that sample 1 has one dimensional structure, which is constructed by dinuclear second building unit. The effect factors of reaction temperature and reaction time in synthesizing the uniform microsphere particles were investigated in detail. Downconversion luminescence research shows the sample 1 exhibits characteristic transitions at 488, 544, 585, 621 and 636 nm, which corresponding to the transitions of D → F, D → F, D → F, D → F and D → F of Tb respectively, and the strongest peak is at 544 nm. The absolute luminescence quantum yield of sample 1 is as high as 32.7 %. Furthermore, investigation indicates the upconversion luminescence of sample 1 is the two-photo absorption of the ligand. A new copper coordination polymer, [CuL(HO)] ( 1), (HL = 3-(pyridine-2-yl)benzoic acid) has been solvothermally synthesized by using the HL and CuCl⋅2HO and characterized by IR spectra, elemental analysis, single-crystal and powder X-ray diffractions, and TGA. Compound 1 contains a well-known paddle-wheel unit [Cu(COO)], which is connected to a three-dimensional supramolecular structure with pcu topology through the hydrogen bond interactions. Compound 1 displays considerable thermal stability and exhibits selective absorption in the visible region, which is shown by thermogravimetric analysis and solid-state UV-Vis diffuse-reflectance spectra, respectively. Two new transition metal-based coordination polymers, [Cu(fdc)(dmbpy)(HO)] ( 1) {[Ni(fdc)(bipy)(HO)]·(HO)} ( 2) (fdca = 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid, dmbpy = 3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridine, bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) have been synthesized under the same reaction conditions (HO, pH 7-8, and 130 °C) and were structurally characterized. 1 is a ladder chain, whereas 2 shows a 2D (4,4) network. A new coordination polymer of [Mn(SO)( L)·(HO)] was synthesized by the interaction of a big π-conjugated rigid ligand 1,4-bis([1,10]phenanthroline-[5,6-d]imidazol-2-yl)benzene( L) and manganese sulfate, exhibiting a eightfold interpenetrated diamondoid network. Two Zinc(II) coordination polymers [Zn(NO)(3-bapp)]·nHO ( 1) and [Zn(NO)(4-bapp)]·nHO ( 2) have been synthesized by using zinc acetate, sodium nitrite, {3-bapp: 2,6-bis (3-amidopyridyl) pyridine} and {4-bapp: 2,6-bis (4-amidopyridyl) pyridine} as precursor. Pure phase ZnO nano-rods were obtained by thermolyses of compound 1 and 2 in 600 °C for 3 h under air atmosphere. The ZnO nano-rods were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The average crystallite size of ZnO nano-rods (1), (2) were determined 30 and 40 nm respectively. The particle size of hexagonal nano-rods of (1) and (2) are in the range of 20-70 and 30-80 nm respectively. A supramolecular coordination polymer (SCP), ∞[Cu(CN)(MePb)(bpy)], 1, based on the Cu(CN) building blocks and (MePb) cation was synthesized in the presence of an auxiliary rigid-planar bipodal 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bpy) ligand under ambient conditions. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the Cu(I) sites acquire T-4 geometry and the lead atom, Pb1 assumes TBPY-5 configuration. The rhombic [Cu(µ-CN)] motifs display the essential role as the main building blocks which are interconnected by the (MePb) cations to form infinite quasi-planer sheets containing the 24-atomic CNCuPb rings. These sheets are connected by the bpy ligands producing 3D-network. The wide vacant space present in the framework of 1 is occupied by a second and identical 3D-framework in that each bpy pillar of one framework passes the center of the 24-atomic ring of the complementary framework producing an inextricably interpenetrated structure. Three new mercury(II) coordination monomers, Hg LX [X = Cl ( 1) and Br ( 2)], and polymer, [Hg LI], ( 3), L = 5-methyl-5-(3-pyridyl)-2,4-imidazolidenedione, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, and N %) and flame atomic absorption (Hg %), IR, and NMR spectroscopy. Complexes 1 and 2 have the same framework structure while the structure of complex 3 is an infinite 2D layers. According to X-ray diffraction analysis, complex 3 crystallizes in monoclinic system. In this polymeric complex, [Hg(CHNO)I(μ-I)], Hg atom is coordinated by one L and three I anions with a distorted tetrahedral geometry; one I anion is in a monodentate coordination mode and the other two are bridging, linking Hg atoms into a one-dimensional chain. Classical hydrogen-bonding interactions (O···H-N) between adjacent ligands result in a zigzag type arrangement of one chain while consecutive polymeric chains are linked by non-classical ones (O···H-C) to form 2D supramolecular layers. The results indicate that the flexible ligand can form complexes with varied structures. In addition, the species of the halide were found to have great impact on the structure of the complexes. Antibacterial activity of L and the corresponding complexes investigated against six species of microorganisms. Testing was performed by disk diffusion method, and minimum inhibitory concentrations have been determined. Noteworthy antimicrobial activities for these complexes were observed. A new Cd(II) coordination polymer based on 5-Nitroisophthalic acid (HNIPH) and 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (mbix), namely, [Cd(NIPH)(mbix)] ( 1), has been successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. Its structure has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, TG and fluorescence spectrum. Compound 1 shows a two-dimensional network structure. The intermolecular C-H···O hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions extend the compound 1 into 3D supramolecular architectures and play an important role in stabilizing compound 1. In addition, natural bond orbital analysis was performed by using the PBE0/LANL2DZ method built in Gaussian 03 Program. A new Sr(II) coordination polymer (EMIm)[Sr(1,4-NDC)Br] 1 has been ionothermal synthesized using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide as solvent and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, XRPD and X-ray crystallography, where 1,4 -HNDC is 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid. Polymer 1 displays a crystalline 3D framework, in which the anions of 1,4-HNDC are embedded in three bridging coordination modes and Sr(II) centers show five coordination geometries. Each dodecanuclear metallocyclic ring segment formed by distorted edge-sharing and face-sharing Sr coordination polyhedra extends out to increase the dimensionality by strontium coordination polyhedra sharing to obtain a rare Sr-based 2D sheet. Organic bridging ligands connect adjacent layers giving rise to a 3D structure and (EMIm) cations acting as extra charge balancing species occupy the channels of the anionic framework. Six novel coordination polymers {Co(HCOO)(4,4′-bipy)} ( 1), {[Ni(4,4′-bipy)(OH)(HO)]·suc·2HO} ( 2), {Ni(HCOO)(4,4′-bipy)} ( 3), {Zn(HCOO)(4,4′-bipy)} ( 4), {Cu(HCOO)(4,4′-bipy)} ( 5) and {[Cu(ox)(2,2′-bipy)]·2HO} ( 6) (suc succinic acid, ox oxalic cid) based on pyridine derivatives and carboxylates as ligands were designed and synthesized. The coordination polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-Vis spectra, powder X-ray diffraction, the thermo gravimetric analyses and single-crystal diffraction analysis. The structure analysis showed that the central metal atoms in coordination polymers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 all were six-coordination modes, forming distorted octahedron geometries. Cu atom in the coordination polymer 5 was four-coordination mode, forming square planar coordination geometry. While in the coordination polymers 1, 3 and 4, two metal centers were connected by bridging coordination fashions of formic acid ligand, forming a three-dimensional network structure, and in the coordination polymer 6, the two metal centers were connected by bridging coordination fashions of oxalic acid ligand, forming one-dimensional chain. Three coordination polymers of zinc(II) and cadmium(II) of formula {[Zn(bipy)(NIPH)]·5HO} ( 1), {[Cd(bipy)(NIPH)]·2HO } ( 2) and {[Cd(bipy)(BDAC)(NO)](NO)·6HO} ( 3) (NIPH = 5-nitro-isophthalic acid, HBDAC = 1,4-benzenediacrylic acid and bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) have been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis. All the complexes display 1D coordination polymers where M(bipy) units are connected by dicarboxylate anions(and also by nitrate in 3)acting as bridging ligands. While in 1 and 3 a zig-zag chain is generated, in case of 2 a double linear chain is formed by the two crystallographic distinct Cd atoms. In solid state all the complexes expand the dimensionality to 3D by means of π-π interactions among π rings and H-bonds generated by lattice water molecules. Three new mixed ligated cobalt coordination polymers, [Co(3-NPA)(1,2-bimb)] ( 1), [Co(4-NPA)(1,2-bimb)] ( 2) and [Co(4-NPA)(bpe)(HO)] ( 3) (3-NPAH = 3-nitrophthalic acid, 4-NPAH = 4-nitrophthalic acid, 1,2-bimb = 1,2-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzene, bpe = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, and single-crystal and powder X-ray diffractions. Compounds 1 and 2 based on the same auxiliary N-donor ligand show different structures: 1 is a one-dimensional chain structure, while 2 features a two-dimensional layered structure. The structural differences between 1 and 2, which involve the same metal ion and 1,2-bimb ligand, could be attributed to the different coordination modes of 1,2-bimb molecule. In compound 3, a one-dimensional chain structure connected by the carboxylate groups and the Co(ΙΙ) ions, which are further linked by the bpe molecules to give a two-dimensional layered structure. Three new N-(5-amino-2-methylphenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidineamine Cd(II) coordination polymers, namely, {[Cd(AMPPA)(HO)]·(NO)·HO} ( 1), {[Cd(AMPPA)(ipa)]·2HO} ( 2) and {[Cd(AMPPA)(Hbtc)]·2HO} ( 3) (AMPPA = N-(5-amino-2-methylphenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidineamine, Hipa = isophthalic acid and Hbtc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that complex 1 exhibits one dimension (1D) coordination polymers when only the AMPPA ligand was employed. With the introduction of the building blocks (Hipa and Hbtc) into the reaction system of 1, complexes 2 with 2D layer and 3 with 3D networks were isolated, respectively. The effect of the building blocks in the construction of complexes 1- 3 has been discussed. In addition, all complexes display strong luminescence in the solid state. Hydrothermal reactions of biphenyl-2,3,3′,5′-tetracarboxylic acid (Hbptc) with manganese salt in the presence of 1,4-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)piperazine (bpmp) afforded one novel coordination polymer, namely, [Mn(bptc)(bpmp)] ( 1). Its structure was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and TG analysis. Complex 1 contains {Mn} cluster, exhibiting an unusual mode of two-fold interpenetrating three-dimensional (3D) framework with a (3, 8)-connected (8.10) (4.7.8.10.11.15) topology. Two novel coordination polymers of [Cd(NIPH)(imH)HO]·nHO (1) and [Cd(NIPH)(imH)(CHCHO)] (2) (HNIPH = 5-nitroisophthalic, imH = 1H-imidazole) were successfully synthesized by controlling the ratio of reaction solvents and characterized by element analysis, FT-IR, TG analysis, single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 exhibits a zigzag-like chain pattern containing mononuclear cadmium building blocks, while complex 2 shows a ladder-like double chain pattern with binuclear cadmium building blocks. Three new coordination polymers, {[Mg(NiL1)(HO)]·CHCHOH·2HO} ( 1), {[Zr(NiL1)(OH)(HO)]·8HO} ( 2) and {[Pb(NiL1)(HO)]·3HO} ( 3), were prepared from a macrocyclic metalloligand NiL1. HL1 denotes 1,4-dihydro-2,3-dioxo-5,6:- 9,10:13,14-tribenzo[1,4,8,11]tetraazacyclotetradeca-7,11-diene-7,12-dicarboxylate. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that 1, 2 and 3 have infinite single stranded helical structures. In each of the three compounds, NiL1 plays the role of the bridging ligand by chelating one node via two oxamido carbonyls and binding to another through a carboxylate oxygen atom. 1D helical coordination polymers of macrocyclic metalloligands and those of Mg, Zr and Pb nodes are all not common. The generation of the three complexes manifests further that NiL1 is a bridging ligand unprecedentedly powerful in directing the formation of single stranded helical coordination polymers. It is the combination of multiple features of NiL1 that are responsible for its high powerfulness of inducing these helical structures. Two new mixed-ligand coordination polymers of [Zn(μ-mptrz)(mptrz)(μ-en)] ( 1) and {[Cd(μ-mptrz)(μ-en)Br]·DMSO} ( 2) were prepared from the reaction of 4-methyl-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (Hmptrz) and ethylene diamine (en) with ZnBr and CdBr in CHOH, respectively. Compounds 2 and 4 show 2D → 3D interpenetrated networks with (4,4) grid layers and 2D layer, respectively, and both of them contain metal-carboxylate binuclear units. The thermal stabilities and fluorescence properties for complexes 1- 4 are investigated. The blue-shift of the luminescent wavelength in 2 may be due to the absence of interligand π··· π effects compared with that of other three compounds, but there exist the strong face-to-face π··· π interactions in 1 and edge-to-face π··· π interactions in 3 and 4, showing a certain degree of interchromophore coupling interaction. Yellow crystals of the coordination polymers (CP) [Ag(qox)NO], 1 [Ag(pyzca)], 2 were obtained by the reaction of AgNO, quinoxaline (qox) or pyrazinecarboxylic acid (pyzcaH), respectively. The crystal structure of 1 displays 1D-extended chain of [Ag(qox)] with NO coordinated to every Ag atom. The 1D-chains of 1 are interconnected by strong hydrogen bonds, π-π stacking and short contacts developing two dimensional sheets containing channels. Furthermore, the overall packing arrangement of 1 results 3D topology with corrugated network. The Ag atom in 2 acquires tetrahedral geometry while each pyzca ligand provides three donor sites connected to three Ag atoms. The structure of CP 2 displays 1D-extended helical chain of [Ag(pyzca)]. Three new metal-organic complexes [Fe(pyip)(HO)] ( 1), [Co(pyip)(HO)] ( 2) and [Ni(pyip)(HO)] ( 3) have been synthesized and characterized based on the carboxylic acid with N donor ligand (Hpyip=5-(Pyridin-3-yl)isophthalic acid). X-ray structure analysis reveals that complexes 1- 3 showed identical 3-D supramolecular architecture that adopt different metal center. They all crystallize in hexagonal space group P6(5) and exhibited exclusive coordination mode. One of the Hpyip adopt bidentate chelate coordination mode and the other coordination carboxylate oxygen atom adopts the single dentate bridging mode. Coordination polymers were prepared by the condensation reaction of salicylaldehyde and thiosemicarbazide with formaldehyde, transition metal acetates Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II). Structural and spectral properties have been studied by elemental, spectral (FT-IR, H NMR, and UV-Vis), and thermogravimetric analysis. The geometry of the chelated coordination polymers was confirmed by magnetic susceptibility measurements and UV-Visible spectroscopy. Antimicrobial screening was done against microbes such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus typhi, Candida albicans, Microsporum canis, Aspergillus niger. In vitro antimicrobial activity was determined by the Agar Well Diffusion method and result show that all the coordination polymers exhibited better antimicrobial activity than their parent polymeric Schiff base. Coordination polymers were found to be more stable than their corresponding ligand as deduced by on thermogravimetric analysis. Because of antimicrobial and thermal behavior, these coordination polymers have broad range of applications as thermally resistant as well as antimicrobial-biocidal and antifouling coating materials. A new silver coordination polymer [Ag(BPTC)] has been synthesized by solvothermal reaction of AgNO and HBPTC. The oxygen atom of the ligand L also coordinates to the third metal center as a bridging atom in 4 and forms a two-dimensional, 2D, coordination polymer. Metal centers are six coordinated with distorted octahedral geometry in 1- 3 and seven coordinated with pentagonal bipyramid geometry in 4. A new coordination polymer [Pb(ttbt)(1,4-bdoa)]·2nHO ( 1) (1,4-Hbdoa = benzene-1,4-dioxyacetic acid and ttbt = 10,11,12,13-tetrahydro-4,5,9,14-tetraaza-benzo[b]triphenylene) has been obtained under hydrothermal conditions. Two one-dimesional (1D) coordination polymers (CPs) [Cu( μ-OAc)( μ-bpt)] ( 1) and [Cu( μ-DMF)( μ-NO)( μ-bpmh)] ( 2) (DMF = N, N-dimethylformamide) based on copper(II) salts and 3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole (bpt) and 1,2-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethylene)hydrazine (bpmh) have been synthesized under different conditions, respectively; and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analyses, powder X-ray diffraction, fluorescence analysis, fourier transforming infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopies. CP 1 shows an infinite 1D zigzag chain with paddle-wheel shaped [Cu( μ-OAc)] secondary building units (SBUs) and μ-bpt V-shaped dipyridyl ligands. The Cu···Cu distance in the [Cu( μ-OAc)] core is 2.631(18) Å, supporting the Cu···Cu interaction. Cu(II) in CP 2 also adopts five-coordinated mode but in trigonal bipyramidal geometry which is completed by three O atoms from nitrates and DMF and also two N atoms from adjacent bpmh to form an infinite 1D linear chain. Furthermore, the magnetism property of CP 1 was investigated. Its results show that CP 1 indicated antiferromagnetic behavior. In addition, CPs 1 and 2 display fluorescence quenching compared with corresponding free ligands at room temperature. An axial substitution of the coordinated acetonitrile molecules in dinuclear Cu(I) compound, [Cu(μ-PhPPy)(CHCN)](ClO) ( 1) (PhPPy = bis(2-pyridyl)phenylphosphine) by various dicarboxylates (isophthalate, terephthalate and naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylate) led to a class of new linear coordination polymers, {[Cu(μ-PhPPy)](μ-1,3-CH(CO))} ( 2), {[Cu(μ-PhPPy)](μ-1,4-CH(CO))} ( 3) and {[Cu(μ-PhPPy)](μ-2,6-CH(CO))} ( 4). X-ray crystallographic studies reveals that all the polymers adopt almost linear structures, where the dicarboxylate groups connect dinuclear Cu(I) units as linkers. In 2 and 4, polymeric chains are parallel to each other. However the chains in 3 are arranged layer by layer, where polymeric chains are parallel in one layer, but chains in the neighboring layers are aligned with the angle (42°). The detailed structural analyses demonstrate that in solid state, the polymeric chains display different orientations which are controlled by interchain π-π and CH-π interactions. In solid state, all the coordination polymers are highly emissive at room temperature, which exhibit phosphorescence characteristics and are assigned as metal to ligand charge transfer. Three mixed-metal nitrilotriacetates [Ba(HO)Co(nta)Cl] ( 1), [Ba(HO)Ni(nta)Cl] ( 2), and [Ba(HO)Cu(nta)Cl] ( 3) (Hnta = nitrilotriacetic acid) were prepared by the reaction of M ions (M = Co, Ni, and Cu), Knta, and Ba ions in water. The reaction of complexes 1 and 2 with CuSO·5HO afforded [Co(HO)][Cu(nta)]·2nHO ( 4) and [Ni(HO)][Cu(nta)]·2nHO ( 5), respectively. The reaction mechanism was elucidated. The crystal structure analyses indicate that the Ba ions formed one-dimensional (1D) zigzag chains in complex 3, and the chains were connected by Cu(nta) anions to form a three-dimensional network. Two d metal-organic coordination polymers, [Cd(4-cpa)(bmip)] ( 1) and [Zn(4-cpa)(4,4′-bpy)] ( 2), [4-cpa = 4-chlorophenylacetate, bmip = 1,3-bis(2-methylimidazoly)propane, 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine], were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), powder X-ray diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies indicated that both 1 and 2 display analogous wave-like infinite chain structures. Both ( R)-2-Chloromandelato coordination polymers, [Cu(Clma)] 1 and [Mn(HO)(Clma)] 2, crystallizing in the polar chiral monoclinic space group P2 represent the first two examples of metal complexes with ( R)-2-Chloromandelic acid (HClma) ligand. Through the ( R)-2-Chloromandelate Clma ions, the penta- and hexa-coordinated metal atoms in 1 and 2 are linked into chains, {[Cu(Clma)](Clma)} and {[Mn(HO)(Clma)](Clma)}, respectively, and further assembled into 3D supramolecular architectures via hydrogen bonding and close packing interactions. They exhibit ferroelectricity ( Pr = 0.03 and 0.01 μC cm, Ec = 5.09 and 0.52 kV cm, Ps = 0.10 and 0.17 μC cm, respectively). The magnetic behaviors of 1 and 2 can be interpreted by means of a 1D chain model, where the magnetic exchanges are transmitted via carboxylate groups between metal atoms, and the best fit results in J = 2.97, −0.15 cm for 1 and 2, suggesting ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions, respectively.
