This paper combines proxy signature, quantum teleportation, and multi-party verification and proposes a multi-party verifiable quantum proxy signature scheme based on quantum teleportation. This scheme has the following characteristics: The authentication method based on the H a s h function can effectively solve the problem of identity identification among members; in order for the proxy signer to be able to verify the correctness of the proxy authorization, a form of proxy signature authorization that concatenates the identity information of the original signer is used. The introduction of metasurfaces has renewed Snell's law, and the metasurfaces can manipulate sound waves flexibly. In this paper, a coding metasurface with a simple and adjustable coding unit for sound wave transmission is proposed. By changing the orientation of a movable part in a fixed structure, conversion is achieved between two types of units with a phase difference of 180° and high transmittance (>75%). By combining the two types of units, the phases of sound waves can be regulated dynamically. Structural simulations are performed using finite-element software, and the beam splitting of the transmitted sound wave is verified by theoretical analysis and experiments under plane wave incidence in the frequency range of 4.7–5.7 kHz. This paper explores the fundamental structural origins of the 0.7 eV band emission peak, known as D07. The increased attention on these d-band emission lines originates mainly from the correlation between crystal defect and the intensified recombination of less dominant charge carriers. This association holds substantial importance, impacting not just the electronics sector but also raising concerns about reduced efficiency in silicon solar cells. By employing hyperspectral photoluminescence imaging, we pinpointed regions manifesting high D07 peak emissions on a microscopic scale. Subsequently, we conducted a structural investigation utilizing scanning electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction. Following this, we used a focused ion beam to extract areas of interest, allowing for a detailed characterization of the sample using high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy at the atomic scale. This approach aids in identifying defects and determining grain boundary orientation. In areas of high D07 band emission, we found Σ 3 { 114 } { 101 } grain boundaries decorated with two-layer fault twin and/or an extrinsic two-layer stacking faults. In addition, density functional theory calculations suggest oxygen impurities as a possibility for substitutional segregation to these types of defects. This paper presents a comprehensive exploration of low interface trap density (Dit) in HfO2/Si0.73Ge0.27 metal-oxide semiconductor (MOS) capacitors achieved through sulfur passivation and post-deposition annealing (PDA). Our investigation revealed that devices subjected to sulfur passivation and PDA exhibit noteworthy reductions in Dit and hysteresis. Specifically, a low Dit value of 1.2 × 1011 eV−1 cm−2 has been achieved at Ei–0.1 eV for the SiGe MOS device. The observed enhancement in interface properties can be attributed to two key factors: the reduction of the GeOx concentration in the interfacial layer (IL) by sulfur passivation on the SiGe surface and the IL densification with stoichiometric oxygen during PDA. The thermal transport and elastic properties of materials are often measured using the laser-induced transient grating spectroscopy (TGS) technique. The analysis of the TGS signal usually involves fitting well-known expressions, derived assuming the limiting cases of opaque or transparent materials, to the measured data. In this paper, the system of thermoelastic equations is analytically solved for an isotropic homogeneous material assuming finite laser penetration depth, which is an important consideration when the penetration depth is on the order of the acoustic wavelength. The need to use such a solution is discussed and compared to the expression for opaque material. The solution is benchmarked against TGS signal measured on single-crystal silicon with {100} surface orientation and is found to significantly improve the accuracy of the calculated thermal diffusivity as compared to using the expression for opaque material. A novel interfacial resistance-free (IRF) bifunctional camouflage (transparent and invisible) device is proposed in this paper. The thermal and electric conductivities of the shell and background are the same to eliminate the interfacial resistance. The IRF bifunctional camouflage device can operate in thermal–electric fields based on the neutral inclusion method. The distribution of isotherm and equipotential lines are studied quantitatively by the simulations. It is confirmed that the IRF bifunctional camouflage device with arbitrary natural materials can effectively achieve not only the invisible function but also the transparent function in thermal–electric fields. Thermally stimulated discharge (TSD) technique is a traditional method in dielectric research, especially for electrets. However, in conventional open-circuit and short-circuit TSD techniques, it is difficult to distinguish the surface charge and body charge of dielectric materials. In particular with the test of polymer electrets, the deformation of the polymer film may take place during the measurement process, which will affect the accuracy of the experiment results. In this paper, a glass-assisting TSD (GA-TSD) technique is proposed to solve the above problems. The feasibility of the experimental technique is verified with the GA-TSD spectra of fluorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer electret films. In addition, their theory analysis is also accomplished. The influences of glass thickness, glass dielectric property, and metallizing on the glass on GA-TSD spectra are investigated. The results prove that the GA-TSD spectra can clearly distinguish the difference between surface charge and body charge according to the current direction. The quartz glass with the lowest dielectric constant is best suitable for the GA-TSD technique. The influence of the glass thickness and metallizing on the glass on GA-TSD spectra is little. Ferroelectricity in hafnium zirconium oxide (Hf1 − xZrxO2) and the factors that impact it have been a popular research topic since its discovery in 2011. Although the general trends are known, the interactions between fabrication parameters and their effect on the ferroelectricity of Hf1 − xZrxO2 require further investigation. In this paper, we present a statistical study and a model that relates Zr concentration (x), film thickness (tf), and annealing temperature (Ta) with the remanent polarization (Pr) in tungsten (W)-capped Hf1 − xZrxO2. This work involved the fabrication and characterization of 36 samples containing multiple sets of metal-ferroelectric-metal capacitors while varying x (0.26, 0.48, and 0.57), tf (10 and 19 nm), and Ta (300, 400, 500, and 600 ° C). In addition to the well-understood effects of x and Ta on the ferroelectricity of Hf1 − xZrxO2, the statistical analysis showed that thicker Hf1 − xZrxO2 films or films with higher x require lower Ta to crystallize and demonstrated that there is no statistical difference between samples annealed to 500 and 600 ° C, thus suggesting that most films fully crystallize with Ta ∼ 500 ° C for 60 s. Our model explains 95% of the variability in the Pr data for the films fabricated, presents the estimates of the phase composition of the film, and provides a starting point for selecting fabrication parameters when a specific Pr is desired. In this paper, a new Stroh formalism for gradient electro-mechanics is derived for the first time, which is both mathematically concise and numerically powerful, applicable to generally coupled anisotropic material systems. Based on this new formalism, the complicated Lamb wave in flexoelectric and piezoelectric plates is investigated. The dispersion equation is obtained by solving the eigenvalue problem along with the unconditionally stable dual-variable and position method. From the obtained dispersion equation, the dispersion curves and mode shapes of the Lamb wave are calculated by the 1D form of the multidimensional moduli ratio convergence method. Two important and interesting features are observed from our analysis: One is the difference in the mode shape symmetry between the piezoelectric and flexoelectric cases, and the other is the size-dependent property of the flexoelectric effect as observed by nondimensionalization. These features are further illustrated by comparing the dispersion curves and wave-mode shapes among the three different material models (purely piezoelectric, purely flexoelectric, and flexoelectric and piezoelectric coupled). The newly derived Stroh formalism offers a robust, concise, and unified approach for dealing with strain gradient electro-mechanic materials with crystal systems of general anisotropy. The article presents the study of the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) for the rhombohedral Laves phase of Pr 2 Rh 3 Ge, which shows a magnetic order below T C = 8.5 K. We have established that the compound exhibits a continuous second-order type of transition which was demonstrated and confirmed by several different techniques, mainly by analyzing universal curves of normalized entropy change as a function of scaled temperature. The observed MCE, in our opinion, is a consequence of an indirect exchange coupling between the magnetic sublattices of the rare earth ions, which, however, does not exclude the potential contribution of sublattice-containing transition metals. In this paper, the procedure to evaluate the MCE from magnetization and specific heat data is described. As a result, important parameters such as the isothermal magnetic entropy change (Δ S M), adiabatic temperature change (Δ T a d ), relative cooling power (RCP), and the temperature averaged entropy change (TEC) were determined. The highest values of − Δ S M , Δ T a d , and RCP for a field change (Δ μ 0 H) of 5 T at T C are 5.96 J/kg K, 3.87 K, and 72.62 J/kg, respectively. These results obtained for Pr 2 Rh 3 Ge seem to be, however, low compared to the values obtained for the rhombohedral Laves phases, belonging to the group of ternary germanides RE 2 Rh 3 Ge containing heavy rare earth metals (RE = Gd, Tb, Ho, and Er). In this paper, a wideband metasurface-loaded (MTS-L) rectenna system is proposed to capture electromagnetic (EM) energy at arbitrary azimuth angles. The radiation patterns of different modes in the original MTS configuration are analyzed using the characteristic mode theory, and potential modes with omnidirectional radiation are screened out. By the arrangement of patches, the roundness performance of the radiation pattern can be ameliorated, and the omnidirectional characteristic is obtained over a wide frequency band. Subsequently, the surface current density of the selected mode is carefully and artificially designed to facilitate probe excitation as well as refrain from introducing complex power-combining networks. A wideband rectifier circuit is designed as the load of the proposed antenna. Eventually, measured results show that it operates from 4.6 to 9.6 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 70.4%, and the peak system efficiency is 52.2%. Optical second harmonic generation (SHG) can be employed to characterize the passivation quality of semiconducting material interfaces. The interface electric field (EDC) related to the existing charges at and near the interface, including the fixed oxide charges Qox, gives rise to the electric field induced second harmonic phenomenon. In this paper, we calibrate the SHG response for EDC measurement, using Al2O3/SiO2/Si(100) samples with different Qox. To perform this calibration, SHG and capacitance-voltage measurements (to access the electrical field of the samples) were made. Electroporation is a complex, iterative, and nonlinear phenomenon often studied through numerical simulations. In recent years, simulations of tissue electroporation have been conducted with static models. However, the results of a static model simulation are restricted to a fixed protocol signature of the pulsed electric field. In this paper, we describe a novel dynamic model of tissue electroporation that also accounts for tissue dispersion and temperature to allow time-domain simulations. We have implemented the biological dispersion of potato tubers and thermal analysis in a commercial finite-element method software. A cell electroporation model was adapted to account for the increase in tissue conductivity. The model yielded 12 parameters divided into three dynamic states of electroporation. The thermal analysis describes the dependence of tissue conductivity on temperature. The model parameters were evaluated using experiments with vegetal tissue (Solanum tuberosum) under electrochemotherapy protocols. The proposed model can accurately predict the conductivity of tissue under electroporation from 100 to 1000 V/cm. A negligible thermal effect was observed at 1000 V/cm, with a temperature increase of 0.89 ° C. We believe that the proposed model is suitable to describe the electroporation at the tissue level and provides a hint of the effects on the cell membrane. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Numerical methods for analyzing diffusion phenomena involving strong discontinuities and complicated interfaces are of great scientific and technical importance. In this paper, we extend the existing step-balanced random walk, which overcomes the problem of detailed balance of a random walker in three-dimensional (3D), diffusion-tensor discontinuous systems, to particle density (ρ) discontinuous systems, and introduce volumetric heat capacity C and temperature T by considering ρ as heat density, i.e., ρ = C T , to apply it to thermal problems. Two types of thermophysical simulations are demonstrated: one is steady-state heat flow due to a temperature difference at the end surfaces on a two-phase slab model unit cell with periodic boundary conditions; the other is the time variation of temperature distribution due to heat diffusion from a point heat source in a repeated two-phase slab model with no periodic boundary conditions. We see the correct behavior of heat and temperature expected in 3D discontinuous systems composed of two phases with anisotropic thermal conductivity. Spin–orbit torque (SOT) can provide efficient electrical manipulation of magnetism via applying electrical current to breaking the symmetry of damping-like torque. In the heterojunction of heavy and ferromagnetic metal, Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI) is one of the key ingredients for stabilizing chiral spin structures, like chiral domain walls. Meanwhile, materials with larger charge-spin conversion rates are also highly expected for the efficient SOT. In this paper, spin–orbit torque magnetic switching is observed in the perpendicularly magnetized Pt/Co/Bi2Se3 and shows relatively high efficiency with low critical switching current density of about 5 × 105 A cm−2. The SOT efficiency and DMI in perpendicularly magnetized Pt/Co/Bi2Se3 were quantitatively investigated by electrical detection of the effective spin Hall field. The DMI constant is about 2.6 mJ m−2, and the effective spin Hall angle of Pt/Co/Bi2Se3 is about 0.14. The work also demonstrates that the Bi2Se3 layer takes the main responsibility for SOT, and the Pt/Co interface is the main source of DMI in Pt/Co/Bi2Se3 structures, which makes it possible to achieve independent optimization of DMI and SOT in the Pt/Co/Bi2Se3 structure at room temperature for the advanced application of spintronic devices. Crossed-Field Vacuum Electron Devices are ubiquitous in the High-Power Microwave field in either an oscillator/source or amplifier variant. A typical configuration consists of a magnetically insulated laminar electron flow in an anode–cathode gap with crossed electric (∝ V , voltage) and magnetic (B-) fields and a series of open resonant cavities/vanes located on the anode block that serve as a slow-wave structure (SWS). The SWS slows the phase velocity of the electromagnetic signal down so that the wave becomes synchronous with a layer of the electron flow but is often neglected when calculating the Hull magnetic field necessary to insulate the electrons. In particular, the guiding design equation for the critical cutoff B-field assumes a smooth anode wall. In this paper, we show that such an assumption severely narrows the operating regime in B–V space and that upon inclusion of a revised Hull Cutoff condition taking into account the SWS, operation at lower B and higher V is possible. A detailed experimental study of high power impulse magnetron sputtering discharges is performed using time-resolved ground state density mapping of the sputtered neutrals and ions. This Paper deals with the effects related to the plasma-on phase and can be considered as an extension of Paper I being published simultaneously. The influence of plasma pulse duration, pulse energy, gas pressure as well as molecular oxygen admixture on the spatial and temporal particle density evolution is examined. Special attention is given to the temporal evolution of the ionization fraction distribution of the sputtered atoms. In addition, the 2D vector maps reflecting particle propagation, sputtering, and ionization in the discharge volume are also presented and discussed, similarly to the first part of this study [J. In this paper, we investigate the ejection production from twice-shocked Sn using molecular dynamic simulations in regimes where the metal undergoes complete shock melting after the first shock. A new description form of a bubble shape is proposed to fit the interface during the whole stage, which overcomes the inapplicability of the flycut profile in later stages. We then explore the ejection on second shock with the dimensionless intervals of ∼3.8 and ∼96 between the two shocks. Surprisingly, the results show that the ejecta model can well predict the second ejecta mass with a shock interval of ∼3.8 while far underestimated that with a shock interval of ∼96. We find that in the presence of the first ejecta, the high-speed secondary interface interacts with the low-speed first ejecta, resulting in the movement of liquid metals to the secondary ejecta, thereby promoting the increase of secondary ejecta mass. Coaxial cables and optical fibers are two types of cylindrical waveguides used in telecommunications. Fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) have found successful applications in various fields, such as optical communications, fiber lasers, and fiber-optic sensing. In this paper, we propose and numerically investigate the implementations of various fiber Bragg configurations, including uniform, chirped, apodized, and phase-shifted configurations, on coaxial cables to generate the corresponding special types of coaxial cable Bragg gratings (CCBGs). The simulation results of different CCBGs match well with the well-known FBG theories. It is demonstrated that the reflection spectrum of a CCBG can be flexibly tailored by introducing various quasi-periodic perturbations in the permittivity of the dielectric layer along the coaxial cable. The proposed special types of CCBGs with unique characteristics could find potential applications in radio frequency signal processing, communication, and sensing fields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Data-driven machine learning techniques can be useful for the rapid evaluation of material properties in extreme environments, particularly in cases where direct access to the materials is not possible. Such problems occur in high-throughput material screening and material design approaches where many candidates may not be amenable to direct experimental examination. In this paper, we perform an exhaustive examination of the applicability of machine learning for the estimation of isothermal shock compression properties, specifically the shock Hugoniot, for diverse material systems. A comprehensive analysis is conducted where effects of scarce data, variances in source data, feature choices, and model choices are systematically explored. New modeling strategies are introduced based on feature engineering, including a feature augmentation approach, to mitigate the effects of scarce data. Nucleation is important in processing of good quality diamond crystals and textured thin films by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) for applications in quantum devices and systems. Bias-enhanced nucleation (BEN) is one approach for diamond nucleation in situ during MPECVD. However, the mechanism of diamond nucleation by BEN is not well understood. This paper describes results on the nucleation of diamond within a carbon film upon application of electric field during the BEN-facilitated MPECVD process. The nature of the diamond film and nuclei formed is characterized by SEM (scanning electron microscopy), Raman spectroscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The HRTEM images and associated diffraction patterns of the nucleation layer show that the diamond nuclei are formed within the carbon film close to the Si (100) substrate surface under the influence of microwaves and electric fields that lead to formation of the textured diamond film and crystal upon further growth. These results are expected to develop diamond films of optimum quality containing a nitrogen-vacancy center for application in quantum systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The field-free spin–orbit torque induced 180° reorientation of magnetization is beneficial for the high performance magnetic memory. The antiferromagnetic material (AFM) can provide a higher operation speed than the ferromagnetic counterpart. In this paper, we propose a trilayer AFM/insulator/heavy metal structure as the AFM memory device. We show that the field-free switching of the AFM with a perpendicular Néel vector can be achieved by using two orthogonal currents, which provide a uniform damping-like torque and uniform field-like torque, respectively. The reversible switching can be obtained by reversing either current. A current density of 1.79 × 1011 A/m2 is sufficient to induce the switching. In addition, the two magnetic moments become noncollinear during switching. This enables an ultrafast switching within 40 ps. The device and switching mechanism proposed in this work offer a promising approach to deterministically switch the AFM with the perpendicular Néel vector. Conventional magnetron discharge is a widely used technology for many applications. In the last decade, the high current density sputtering regime has been an interesting alternative for tailoring thin film properties. In this paper, we focused on the electrical characterization of the helium magnetron plasma operated at average gas pressure (5 Pa) with a molybdenum target. Optical emission spectroscopy diagnostics also supports this study by providing information on electron density evolution. The analysis of the plasma–surface interaction zone on the target unveiled the physical mechanisms associated with the high current density range (6 A cm−2), corresponding to different discharge regimes. The self-sputtering yield plays a key role in high-power impulse magnetron sputtering discharge operated with helium. The electron density is highly dependent on the presence of a metal. Bound states in the continuum (BICs), manifesting themselves as the collapse of Fano resonance, are observed in many photonic and plasmonic systems. The BICs have been studied systematically through various methods such as the topological photonics analysis, temporal coupled mode theory, multipole decomposition method, and the cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED) method. Since CQED can give a macroscopic and intrinsic description of light–matter interaction, it is expected to study BIC that participates in strong coupling. What is more, the relation between coupling strength, the Fano parameter, and the asymmetry property of BICs needs to be clarified. In this paper, we investigated the strong coupling between the cavity mode and Bloch-surface plasmon polariton (Bloch-SPP) mode induced by BICs within the plasmonic lattices of the metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) layer. The properties of strong coupling and BIC were revealed theoretically by the quantum model based on the CQED. The increase in the Fano parameters of BICs was proved to facilitate the coupling strength, which was indicated by the monotonically increasing relation between the Fano parameter and the coupling strength. This work may pave the way for flexible modulation and application of BIC in the fields of high-quality plasmonic nanocavity, low-threshold nano-lasers, and quantum information. In recent years, non-thermal plasma technology has emerged as one of the most promising candidates for decomposing CO 2. The fluid model, a powerful tool to investigate the plasma dynamics, is computationally costly in simulating complex CO 2 plasma with tens of particles and hundreds of reactions, especially driven by short pulsed voltages. In this paper, a deep neural network (DNN) is proposed to describe the discharge characteristics and plasma chemistry of CO 2 pulsed discharge at atmospheric pressure. The DNN is trained using the simulation data obtained from the fluid model and then continuously optimized by minimizing the loss function. The effectiveness and feasibility of the DNN are verified by comparing with the experimental measurement and the numerical simulation results. Compared to the time-consuming fluid simulations with tens of hours, the well-trained DNN typically requires only a few seconds to obtain the essential characteristics of CO 2 pulsed discharges with high accuracy, significantly improving the computational efficiency. The DNN prediction results show that increasing the pulse rise rate at a given voltage amplitude can effectively raise the discharge current and breakdown voltage, and the electric field in the sheath region also increases with the pulse rise rate. In addition, the density of the surface charge accumulated on the dielectric layer increases with the plateau duration, and then a strong induced electric field by the surface charges is established, which obviously improves the discharge current during the pulse fall phase. The predicted data also show that increasing the pulse rise rate and the plateau duration could effectively improve the density of product species, such as CO and O 2 , leading to an increase in CO 2 conversion. This study demonstrates that the DNN method is a reliable tool for obtaining the essential discharge characteristics of atmospheric CO 2 pulsed plasma and provides a promising avenue for future applications of DNN-based methods in non-thermal plasmas. Dopant profiles near the semiconductor–oxide interface are critical for microelectronic device performance. As the incorporation of Si1−xGex into transistors continues to increase, it is necessary to understand the behavior of dopants in Si1−xGex. In this paper, the diffusion and electrical activation of phosphorus within a strained, single-crystal Si0.7Ge0.3 layer on Si during oxidation are reported. Both layers were uniformly doped, in situ, with an average phosphorus concentration of 4 × 1019 atoms/cm3. After high-temperature oxidation, secondary ion mass spectrometry measurements revealed that the bulk of the phosphorus diffuses out of only the SiGe layer and segregates at the oxidizing SiGe–SiO2 interface. Hall effect measurements corroborate the observed phosphorus loss and show that the phosphorus diffusing to the oxidizing interface is electrically inactive. Through density functional theory (DFT) calculations, it is shown that phosphorus interstitials prefer sites near the SiGe–SiO2 interface. Finally, based on a combination of experimental data and DFT calculations, we propose that the phosphorus atoms are displaced from their lattice sites by Ge interstitials that are generated during SiGe oxidation. The phosphorus atoms then migrate toward the SiGe–SiO2 interface through a novel mechanism of hopping between Ge sites as P–Ge split interstitials. Valleytronics has attracted much attention due to its potential applications in information progress and data storage. In this paper, monolayer Cr2S3 is proven to be a ferromagnetic (FM) semiconductor by using first-principles calculations. Moreover, monolayer Cr2S3 exhibits a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy of 30 μeV/f.u. Surprisingly, monolayer Cr2S3 presents spontaneous valley polarization, which means that it will be nonvolatile for data storage. Notably, monolayer Cr2S3 changes to an antiferromagnetic (AFM) state from the original FM state under biaxial tensile strain, and its easy axis will be reorientated from out-of-plane to in-plane when the compressive strain is larger than −2%. Importantly, for AFM monolayer Cr2S3, the valley polarization reversion can be realized by an external electric field along the z direction. In brief, valley polarization has been achieved in both FM and AFM monolayer Cr2S3, which is very rare in other valleytronics research. Under divergent electric fields, space charge is locally accumulated and controls the initiation and evolution of insulation degradation phenomena, such as electrical trees and partial discharge. The space charge profiles provide crucial information for evaluating the insulation performance. However, the existing space charge measurement methods are not directly applicable under divergent electric fields. In this paper, a method combining experiment and simulation is proposed to evaluate the space charge distribution around a needle electrode. An experimental system is established, and the acoustic waves are measured with a hydrophone placed on the symmetric axis. In order to obtain the space charge distribution, the space charge injection process is simulated using the bipolar charge transport model to reduce the freedom of the distribution. Then, calculations are made for the acoustic waves produced by the simulated space charge distributions. Using the signals without the contribution of internal charge, a correspondence between the experiment and simulation is established. For each experimental signal, the matched calculated signal is obtained using the zero-crossing time as a reference. A perfect match between them is presented after the amplitude compensation, which indicates that the space charge distribution in the experiment is identical to that in the simulation model. In this paper, we proposed and numerically demonstrated a giant enhancement up to in both fo 10 8 rward and backward propagation of the second harmonic generation by combining the high-quality factor cavities of the bound states in the continuum and the excellent nonlinear optical crystal of lithium niobate. The enhancement factor is defined as the ratio of the second harmonic signal generated by the structure (lithium niobate membrane with Si grating) divided by the signal generated by the lithium niobate membrane alone. Furthermore, a minimum interaction time of 350 ps is achieved despite the etching less lithium niobate membrane with a conversion efficiency of 4.77 × 10−6. The origin of the enhancements is linked to the excitation of a Fano-like shape symmetry-protected mode that is revealed by finite-difference time-domain simulations. Thermophotovoltaic (TPV) devices, which can break the Shockley–Queisser limit (33.7%) and enhance the thermal energy utilization efficiency, have garnered increasing attention in recent decades. Structuring the emitter surface has been demonstrated to be powerful for tailoring thermal emission to enhance the power density and system efficiency of a TPV system. However, the design and optimization of the broad parameters of the surface nanostructures manually remain to be thorny issues. In this paper, the Bayesian algorithm under the framework of material informatics was coupled with a rigorous coupled wave analysis to optimize the geometry of the infrared grating nanostructure to achieve wavelength-selective emission to boost the TPV performance. It is demonstrated that only less than 0.173% of the total candidate structures were calculated to find out the optimal structure with high spectral emittance in the range of 0.3–1.708 μm, and the power density and system efficiency of the TPV system were enhanced to 4.20 W/cm2 and 35.37%, respectively. The present machine-learning-based optimization of a multi-parameter nanostructure can improve the performance of the TPV system significantly and can be extended to other physical fields in a feasible manner. In the paper, a magneto-mechanic hysteresis model for giant magnetostrictive materials is suggested by considering the effect of the domain rotation and domain wall motion on the magnetization process under prestress and the applied magnetic field. The coercive force, which is magneto-mechanic dependent, is proposed instead of a pinning constant in the Jiles–Atherton model. The model can well predict the characteristics of a magnetization-applied field curve and magnetostrictive strain-applied field curve shown in the experiment, especially the "overturn phenomenon" under different compressive prestresses. Furthermore, the effect of the microstructure parameter, such as the ratio of the domain wall thickness to the internal stress wavelength, the amplitude of internal stress, the ratio of the domain wall thickness to the inclusion radius, and inclusion consistency, on coercive force under applied prestress can also be described by the model. Pulsed electric field-induced electroporation has been widely used, but its specific perforation theory has not been fully elucidated. Therefore, this Perspective paper takes as a clue the dynamic development relationship between the pore energy and the pore state in cell membranes. First, based on the contribution of line tension, surface tension, steric repulsion, and applied electric field to pore energy, the theoretical models of reversible electroporation of a microsecond pulsed electric field and irreversible electroporation of a high-frequency nanosecond pulsed electric field are reviewed. Then, the contribution of elastic strain energy to pore energy is increased, and the theoretical model of pulsed electric field electroporation considering the mechanical properties of cell membranes is further reviewed. Based on the contribution of magnetic stress generated by the magnetic field and the gradient magnetic field to pore energy, a theoretical model of cell membrane magnetoporation under the action of a pulsed magnetic field is proposed, which lays a theoretical foundation for the popularization and application of non-contact cell membrane perforation technology. It is of great significance to explore the ocean environment and strategic deployment under the polar ice layer. In this paper, the evolution laws of the water entry cavity of projectiles passing through ice holes with different shapes and sizes are studied, and the motion states of projectiles passing through holes are described. The case of zero-gap contact motion between a projectile and a hole is considered. The results show that the initial resistance drag of the projectile passing through the circular ice hole is the largest in the case of zero-gap contact, and the cavity collapse is serious, while almost no cavity appears at the shoulder of the projectile when passing through the square hole. The intersection of splash crowns is formed at the square and triangular ice holes as the hole size increases, a diffused cavity is formed at the bottom of the hole edge, and the formation of the jet appears multiple times at each stage. Some unique vortices appear near the hole when the projectile passes through the hole. It has been demonstrated that sound waves carrying orbital angular momentum undergo frequency modulation after being reflected by a rotating object. In this paper, we, observed the rotational Doppler shift phenomenon of the acoustic vortex in an underwater environment by using a Fresnel-spiral zone plate for the construction of the focused acoustic vortex with controllable topological charge. The positive and negative rotation speeds of the spinning object are precisely determined with the rotational frequency shift and the acoustic vortex's topological charge. Field electron emission from nanometer-scale objects deviates from the predictions of the classical emission theory as both the electrostatic potential curves within the tunneling region and the image potential deviates from the planar one. This impels the inclusion of additional correction terms in the potential barrier. At the apex of a tip-like rotationally symmetric surface, these terms are proportional to the (single) local emitter curvature. The present paper generalizes this relation, showing that for any emitter geometry, the coefficient of the correction terms is given by the mean curvature, i.e., the average of the two principal curvatures. Active topological phase transitions widely occur in active matters and biological systems, such as developing embryos. Since the discovery of the intriguing bulk-boundary effects of topological insulators in Hermitian and non-Hermitian systems, various electric, optical, acoustic, and mechanical topological metamaterials with efficient energy transmission and robust defect-immunization have been designed. To date, however, it remains a challenge to precisely and fast manipulate the topological phase transitions in elastic topological insulators. In this paper, on the basis of theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, we propose an active strategy to achieve this aim through a combination of pneumatic actuation and liquid metals. The proposed method can precisely tune the connecting stiffness and vertex mass in the tight Su–Schrieffer–Heeger model. Thus, we realize the effective and fast control of topological phase transitions and elastic wave bandgap switching. We also uncover the active spinning bulk-boundary effects and higher-order topological states in the elastic topological insulators, demonstrating the high effectiveness and practicability of the proposed method. In addition, the differences between the 1D edge and 0D corner higher-order states are specified by information entropy theory. This work not only gains insights into the active manipulation of topological phase transitions but also inspires novel strategies to design active topological materials through untethered methods, e.g., magnetism or biological cells. This paper presents a novel highly selectivity tunable filter with transmission zero. Yttrium iron garnet/gadolinium gallium garnet layer structures are added to the filter structure as bandstop units to achieve transmission zero. CST Studio Suite simulates and optimizes the filter structural parameters. Transmission zero and filter passband are tuned simultaneously. Skirt selectivity can be significantly increased by placing the transmission zero at the lower side of the filter passband. The parasitic response can be suppressed by about 20 dBc when the transmission zero is located on the upper side of the filter passband. With the magnetic field shifted from 3250 to 5005 Oe, the filter tuning range is 11–16 GHz with an insertion loss of about 3.5 dB. The addition of transmission zero enhances filter selectivity and provides more flexibility in suppressing interfering signals that vary in frequency or parasitic responses at specific frequencies. This paper presents a simulation approach to solve the steady-state corona model of a rod-type static discharger with a sharp tip. Based on the requirement of charge density distribution on the corona boundary, a novel iteration calculation method is proposed to automatically solve the corona zone range of the electrode boundary that cannot be predetermined for a sharp electrode. Moreover, a recursive calculation strategy that uses the corona convergence solution of some high-voltage parameters as the initial solution is employed to improve the computational stability and efficiency in scanning simulations with different voltage and wind speed parameters. Through the simulation and verification of a typical rod-type static discharger, we observed that the convergence is fast for the boundary range iteration, and the recursive calculation strategy is also effective. In addition, the volt–ampere characteristics and inception voltage obtained using the simulation were in good agreement with the measurement. Through simulation of a static discharger applied in a typical longitudinal wind field environment, we observed that the proposed approach is still effective at wind speeds up to hundreds of m/s. Conductive polymer composites require high conductive filler loadings to achieve relatively ideal electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance, which brings problems such as heavy weight and poor processability and ultimately limits their application in the aerospace field. To solve the above problems and realize the preparation of excellent EMI shielding composites with low filler loadings, a bipolar pulsed electric field-induced graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) alignment method is proposed in this paper to improve the electrical conductivity and EMI shielding performance. The orientation and alignment of GNPs in the matrix were characterized by x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, and the results showed that GNPs formed a conductive network. The electrical conductivity of the composite material in the X-band was measured, and the results showed that the bipolar pulsed electric field could significantly improve the electrical conductivity of the composite material; the improvement percentage reached 100%–300% under the five filler loadings. In addition, the EMI shielding effectiveness of the composite material in the X-band was tested. The results showed that the EMI shielding effectiveness of the composite material with a mass fraction of 14% increased from 16.48–15.86 dB to 21.37–20.99 dB with the action of the bipolar pulsed electric field, and the improvement percentage was 32%. This is the first study on improving the EMI shielding performance of composite materials by applying a bipolar pulsed electric field, and it provides an effective method to prepare EMI shielding composites with low filler loadings. A wideband reflective type metasurface with both functionality cross and circular polarization conversions at different frequencies is presented in this paper. The meta-atom of the designed metasurface consists of six L-shaped metallic patches. A patching arrangement for the meta-atom yielded both polarization conversion ratio (PCR) > 0.9 over the 10.3–15.26 GHz band and axial ratio (AR) < 3 dB over the 8.97–9.75 GHz and 17.51–23.93 GHz bands. More than 30% fractional bandwidth is achieved for both functions. The physical mechanism of linear and circular polarization conversion has been analyzed by the spatial profile of electric and magnetic fields. The prototype of the designed metasurface consisting of 25 × 25 meta-atoms is fabricated and experimental results are in reasonable agreement with the simulated results. Low-temperature plasma ablation has been clinically used in minimally invasive surgeries. However, there is still a lack of research on its discharge process and ablation mechanism. This paper investigates the bubble generation process and micro-discharge phenomena of pin-to-pin surgical electrodes in NaCl solution driven by a high-frequency AC power supply at a level of (100–150) V. Microbubbles will occur around electrodes and merge to form a vapor layer that can completely cover the electrodes. Then, micro-discharges in the form of microspark would occur around the grounded electrode. The effects of geometrical and electrical parameters on the generation of vapor layers and micro-discharges are analyzed by the statistical results. It is found that the conductivity of the solution has an important influence on the generation probability and stability of vapor layers together with the occurrence position of micro-discharges. The simulation results of the discharge process and the experimental results match well with each other, and they demonstrate jointly that the discharge process is mainly influenced by the electrolytic effect. This paper analyses the behavioral features of ohmic contacts under the conditions of traditional isothermal annealing. The purpose of this paper is to study the value change of the semiconductor contact resistance when applying electric current pulses of different powers. For the experiments, structures were formed of metal-sublayer-semiconductor wafer Al–(Ti, Ni, Mo)–Si. The quality control of the deposited films was carried out microscopically by the four-probe method. The presented results indicate the solid-phase interaction of components during diffusion annealing Si–Me–Al thin-film systems. This rearrangement of atoms, which occurs with grain-boundary diffusion, significantly affects the electrical and thermal characteristics of the formed contacts. The novelty of the paper is that the optimal parameters of a rectangular current pulse were selected, which made it possible to reduce the value of the transition resistance by 1.6 times. A pure bending semiconductor beam that exhibits a non-homogeneous cross section variation enhanced flexoelectric coupling effect is investigated in this paper from the point of view of theoretical analysis and numerical calculations. According to the macroscopic theory of flexoelectric semiconductors, a one-dimensional bending model for a simple-supported beam with variable cross section is developed. The semi-analytical method, which is composed of cosine series and supplementary functions, is introduced to solve the partial differential equations with variable coefficients. Before the analysis, the convergence and correctness of the semi-analytical method are demonstrated systematically. The calculated results show that both the electric potential and the charge carrier distribute non-homogeneously in the entire beam under a pair of symmetric bending moments. It is revealed that more carriers, a larger electric potential, and more charges tend to concentrate in the zone near the ends. After introducing a dimensionless carrier density, this paper systematically investigates the non-homogeneous cross section variation effect on the flexoelectric coupling for charge carrier redistribution. It is indicated that more perturbation carriers in a non-uniform beam are produced by the enhanced flexoelectric coupling. Piezotronic devices have attracted a great deal of attention due to their potential applications in self-powered tactile sensing, nano-device memory, human-electronic interface, etc. As the size of piezotronic devices shrinks, some interesting quantum effects begin to appear. In this paper, we establish a theory oriented to the engineering application of piezoelectric semiconductors, called quantum-corrected phenomenological (QCP) theory, by coupling the density-gradient theory and the linear piezoelectricity theory through Gauss's law. For numerical verification, we specifically studied the electromechanical behaviors in GaN/AlGaN heterostructure quantum wells (QWs) with both infinite and finite barrier height. The results of electron density, electric potential, and quantum potential are provided, and their dependence on the doping density, the applied stress, and the Al mole fraction is investigated. Some interesting quantum effects are revealed, and their influencing mechanisms are well investigated from a macroscopic perspective. Not only do the conclusions drawn in this paper enrich the fundamental understanding of the piezotronic effect in a QW structure, but also the proposed QCP theory can serve as a valuable tool for future device engineering. Dual-energy computed tomography (CT) provides a better material classification capability than traditional CT. A scintillator is an essential component that determines the optical resolution, detective quantum efficiency, and energy separation of the dual-layer dual-energy CT system. In this paper, we propose a new dual-layer scintillator combination composed of CsI:Tl and LYSO:Ce for dual-energy CT imaging. The x-ray attenuation physical process of CsI:Tl and LYSO:Ce combination is simulated on Geant4. The energy distribution and luminescence of different thicknesses of the scintillator combination are investigated by simulation experiments. Then, the optimal thicknesses of the combination are designed based on simulation results. Furthermore, a dual-layer dual-energy CT system using the scintillator combination is built, and practical dual-energy imaging experiments are implemented in the system. Simulation results indicate that the CsI:Tl and LYSO:Ce combination can effectively realize dual-energy detection. The optimal thickness is 100 μm for CsI:Tl and 500 μm for LYSO:Ce. Practical experiments show that the dual-energy CT system using the CsI:Tl and LYSO:Ce combination has low noise. Materials of the metal mixture sample and the igneous rock sample are correctly separated using the dual-energy data obtained by the CsI:Tl and LYSO:Ce combination. Therefore, the CsI:Tl and LYSO:Ce combination is expected to be used in dual-energy CT imaging studies of complex materials, such as metals, bones, and rocks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) hyperthermia is a promising emerging therapy for cancer treatment that is minimally invasive and has been successfully used to treat different types of tumors. The power dissipation of MNPs, which is one of the most important factors during a hyperthermia treatment, is determined by the properties of MNPs and characteristics of the magnetic field. This paper proposes a method based on the finite element analysis for determining the value of the power dissipation of particles (PDP) that can maximize the average temperature of the tumor during treatment and at the same time guarantee that the maximum temperature is within the therapeutic range. The application of the critical PDP value can improve the effectiveness of the treatment since it increases the average temperature in the tumor region while limiting the damage to the healthy tissue that surrounds it. After the critical PDP is determined for a specific model, it is shown how the properties of the MNPs can be chosen to achieve the desired PDP value. The transient behavior of the temperature distribution for two different models considering blood vessels is analyzed as a case study, showing that the presence of a blood vessel inside the tumor region can significantly decrease the uniformity of the temperature field and also increase the treatment duration given its cooling effects. To present a solution that does not depend upon a good model of the tumor region, an alternative method that uses MNPs with low Curie temperature is proposed, given the temperature self-regulating properties of such MNPs. The results demonstrate that the uniformity of the temperature field can be significantly increased by combining the optimization procedure proposed in this paper with the use of low-Curie-temperature MNPs. An Acoustic Black Hole (ABH) is a passive and efficient way to control the flexural vibrations of beams or plates. In its classical form, an ABH consists of a local reduction of the thickness of a structure according to a power law profile, associated with a thin viscoelastic coating placed in the thinnest region. A focalization and a wave trap effect occur, leading to a localized energy dissipation, which induces a local temperature increase. The objective of this paper is twofold. First, the goal is to develop an adequate experimental methodology capable of accurately mapping the small temperature variations induced by the local dissipation mechanism. Second, from the thermal standpoint, the goal is to provide experimental evidence of a local temperature increase associated with a damping effect in the case of an ABH beam. This paper thus describes a new kind of experimental methodology able to provide original data, bringing some new insight into the ABH physical understanding and the analysis of structural damping. A data-driven approach to model calibration is developed to accurately obtain the input parameters for nonlinear dynamical systems. The paper focuses on the convergence properties of the proposed method, which play a significant role in understanding the validity and usefulness of any data-driven model. The input parameters of nonlinear dynamical systems are optimized to a reference solution, which can be experimental data or results from a high-fidelity computer simulation, using the Wasserstein metric and a phase-space representation of a set of time-dependent signals. Test cases shown in this paper include the Lorenz system and the discharge plasma of a Hall effect thruster to characterize the numerical uncertainties of the proposed data-driven approach, given a constructed reference solution. Distinct wells in the cost function, the Wasserstein metric, are obtained relative to the reference solution, illustrating the applicability of the proposed method to dynamical problems.
