Strain SYSU D00308 T , a short-rod-shaped bacterium, was isolated from a sandy soil collected from the Gurbantunggut Desert, Xinjiang, PR China. Strain SYSU D00308 T was Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, pink-pigmented, non-motile, catalase- and oxidase-positive. The strain grew at 4-37 ℃, pH 5.0-8.0 and 0-1.5% (w/v) NaCl. 16S rRNA gene sequencing analyses demonstrated that strain SYSU D00308 T belonged to the genus Rufibacter and exhibited the highest sequence similarity (97.4%) to Rufibacter glacialis MDT1-10-3 T . Summed features 3, 4, and iso-C 15:0 were the major fatty acids, and menaquinone 7 (MK-7) was the sole respiratory menaquinone. The polar lipid profiles comprised phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified glycolipid, an unidentified phospholipid, two unidentified aminophospholipids, and two unidentified lipids. The genome size and DNA G + C content of strain SYSU D00308 T were 5,176,683 bp and 54.8%, respectively. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between SYSU D00308 T and members of the genus Rufibacter were 77.7-81.8% and 20.4-23.4% respectively, which were less than the corresponding thresholds (ANI: 95-96%; dDDH: 70%) for prokaryotic species definition. According to the genotypic, phenotypic and phylogenetic characteristics, strain SYSU D00308 T represents a novel species of the genus Rufibacter. Aerobic, alkaliphilic to alkalitolerant and mesophilic bacteria were isolated and characterized from soil and sediment samples collected from Bigeum Island, South Korea. The total numbers of microorganisms in the soil and sediment samples were found to be 10(3)-10(5) cfu/g and 10(2)-10(7) cfu/g, respectively. A total of 163 isolates were isolated and subjected to further characterization on the basis of pH, temperature and salt tolerance. Among the 163 isolates, 54 were selected based on their tolerance attributes to temperature, pH and NaCl. Out of the 54 isolates, 27 were further selected based on their multiple tolerance ability and enzyme profile and were subjected to 16S rRNA gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. The latter indicated that most of the Bigeum Island isolates were related to the phylum Actinobacteria. The phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences placed the 27 isolates into 9 different major bacterial genera, each genus comprising pure cultures that shared < or =97% sequence identity and 18 putative novel species. Most of the strains were alkalitolerant and mesophilic, and produced biotechnologically important enzymes at alkaline pH.

A pink-pigmented bacterium, designated as strain SYSU D00476T, was isolated from sandy soil collected from the Kumtag Desert in China. Colonies were opaque, smooth and of a slight convexity with a clearly defined border. Cells were rod-shaped, Gram-stain-negative, catalase- and oxidase-positive. Growth occurred at 4–45 ℃ (optimum at 28–30 ℃), pH 6.0–8.0 (optimum at 7.0), and with 0–3.0% NaCl (w/v, optimum at 0–2.0%). Major fatty acids (> 10%) were C16:0, summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c and/or C16:1ω6c), iso-C17:0 3-OH and iso-C15:0. Polar lipids comprised of three unidentified polar aminolipids (ALs), two unidentified aminophosphoglycolipids (APLs), one unidentified glycolipid (GL) and three unidentified phospholipids (PLs). The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. The genomic DNA G + C content was 50.5%. The low digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH, 27.4%) and average nucleotide identity (ANI, 85%) values between strain SYSU D00476T and Telluribacter humicola KCTC 42819T indicated that SYSU D00476T represent a distinct species. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain SYSU D00476T belonged to the genus Telluribacter, showing 97.5% similarity with T. humicola KCTC 42819T. All these data support that strain SYSU D00476T represent a novel species of the genus Telluribacter within the family Spirosomataceae, named as Telluribacter roseus sp. nov. Two Gram-positive, rod-shaped, motile, endospore-forming strains, FJAT-49780T and FJAT-49732T were isolated from a citrus rhizosphere soil sample. The optimal growth temperatures for strains FJAT-49780T and FJAT-49732T were 45 and 35–40 °C, respectively. The optimal growth pH for strains FJAT-49732T and FJAT-49780T were pH 8.0 and pH 6.0, respectively. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between FJAT-49780T and FJAT-49732T was 98.6%. Strains FJAT-49780T and FJAT-49732T shared 97.9–98.4% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities to the type strain of Lederbergia wuyishanensis. In phylogenetic trees (based on 16S rRNA gene sequence), strains FJAT-49732T and FJAT-49780T clade with Lederbergia members. Both strains contained meso-diaminopimelic acid in their cell-wall peptidoglycan and MK-7 was the only isoprenoid quinone detected. The major fatty acids of strains FJAT-49732T and FJAT-49780T were anteiso-C15:0 and iso-C15:0. The polar lipids of strain FJAT-49780T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified aminophospholipid, unidentified phospholipid and unidentified lipids while strain FJAT-49732T contained diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified glycolipid, unidentified aminolipid and unidentified phospholipid. The genomic DNA G+C content of strains FJAT-49780T and FJAT-49732T were 37.0 and 36.7%, respectively. The digital DNA–DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity values between strains FJAT-49780T and FJAT-49732T and with other members of the genus Lederbergia were below the cut-off level for species delineation. Thus, based on the above results, strains FJAT-49780T and FJAT-49732T represent two novel species of the genus Lederbergia, for which the names Lederbergia citri sp. nov., and Lederbergia citrisecundus sp. nov., are proposed. A Gram stain-positive, rod-shaped and motile bacterium, designated SYSU G01003T was isolated from a sediment sample collected from tepid spring in Tengchong, Yunnan province, southwestern China. Growth observed at temperature ranging 28–37 °C (optimum 37 °C) and pH 6.0–8.0 (optimum pH 7.0). Tolerance to NaCl was up to 2.5% (w/v) (optimal in the absence of NaCl). The cell wall peptidoglycan is meso-2,6-diaminopimelic acid and MK-7 as the only respiratory quinone. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and unidentified aminophospholipid, phospholipid, and polar lipid. The major fatty acids are C16:0, anteiso-C15:0 and C14:0. The genomic DNA G + C content of the type strain was 54.0 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANIb and ANIm) values between SYSU G01003T and Paenibacillus azotifigens LMG 29963T were below the cut-off level (95–96%) recommended as the average nucleotide identity (ANI) criterion for interspecies identity. Based on the above results strain SYSU G01003T represents a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus yunnanensis sp. nov. is proposed. A gram-staining negative, non-motile, aerobic chemoheterotrophic, ovoid or short rod-shaped bacterium, designated as J89, was isolated from a seawater sample collected from the coast of Yellow Sea in Qingdao, China. The strain grew at salinities of 1.0-6.0% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3.0%). Growth occurred at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and at 10-35 °C (optimum, 25-30 °C). The genomic DNA G+C content was determined to be 59.3 mol%. Q-8 was detected as the respiratory quinone. The major fatty acids (>10%) were summed feature 3 (C ω7 c and/or C ω6 c), summed feature 8 (C ω7 c and/or C ω6 c), and C. The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, two unidentified phospholipids, and an unidentified polar lipid. Comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that the strain was most closely related (<91%) to members of the order Chromatiales in the class Gammaproteobacteria. Phylogenetic analyses showed that this strain represented a distinct phylogenetic lineage in the order Chromatiales and could not be assigned to any of the defined families in the order. On the basis of low sequence similarities and differential characteristics of strain J89 from the genera of neighboring families, the strain is proposed to be a representative of a novel genus Aquichromatium gen. nov. A new family Aquichromatiaceae with the type genus Aquichromatium is proposed. Strain J89 (=MCCC 1K03281T=CMRC C2017206T) is the type strain of the type species Aquichromatium aeriopus sp. nov. A novel Gram-negative, motile, rod-shaped, facultative anaerobic bacterial strain, KMK6, was isolated from soil contaminated with textile dyes from an industrial estate located at Ichalkaranji, Maharashtra, India, and its taxonomical position was established by using a polyphasic approach. The major cellular fatty acids included Cω8c, summed feature 3 (Cω7c and/or iso-C 2-OH), C, C and Cω7c. The DNA G+C content of strain KMK6 was 48.8 mol %. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis confirmed its placement in the genus Alishewanella, and exhibited sequence similarity levels of below 97 % to the type strains of validly published Alishewanella species. On the basis of genotypic and phenotypic evidence, strains KMK6 is considered to be a novel species of the genus Alishewanella, for which we propose that strain KMK6 (=NCIM 5295 =BCRC 17848) is assigned to a novel species, Alishewanella solinquinati sp. nov.
