The UK's competition watchdog, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), has expressed concerns about British families paying high prices for infant formula, with little pressure on manufacturers or retailers to keep costs down. French dairy group Danone SA and Swiss food giant Nestle SA dominate the UK formula market, with prices of branded formula rising by 24% and own-label formula by 45% from September 2021 to September 2023. The CMA also noted that parents, often stressed and lacking impartial information, face a confusing array of formula brands when choosing for their infants. The CMA plans to consult with the government and industry before making final recommendations early next year. [Extracted from the article]
