Abstract
- John Lewis Partnership Plc, which operates John Lewis department stores and Waitrose grocery chain, has reported a first-half loss of £30 million ($39 million), down from £59 million the previous year. While John Lewis stores are still struggling with a 3% decline in sales, Waitrose has seen sales and volume recover after an IT glitch. The company expects to deliver a higher full-year profit than the previous year, partly due to Waitrose's growth, which is outpacing the wider grocery market. Waitrose plans to open new convenience stores and refurbish existing ones. [Extracted from the article]
