A photoluminescence (PL) method to characterize phase transition processes of Li+/Er3+:BaTiO3 (BLET) ferroelectric ceramics by infrared fluorescence intensities has been proposed. The fluorescence intensities are applied to detect the phase transition of BLET ceramics in multiple phase transition regions. It proves that the change in fluorescence intensities at the phase transition is due to a variation in the radiative transition probability of the 4I13/2 level. A physical mechanism is elucidated considering the relationship between fluorescence properties and the phase structure. Our research benefits an in-depth understanding of the relationship between the PL characteristics and the phase structure of ferroelectric materials and further develops the application potential of PL methods in ferroelectric phase transition detection.
