Portfolios are used in midwifery education to provide students with a central place to store their accumulative evidence of clinical experience for initial registration in Australia. Portfolio formats can be paper-based or electronic. Anecdotal discussion between midwifery students in Queensland debated the best format to document the requirements for the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) standard 8.11. Midwifery students using paper-based portfolios envisioned that an ePortfolio would be streamline, simple, safe to use, and able to be used anywhere with WIFI, while some students using an ePortfolio expressed a desire to have a paper-based portfolio as a hard copy. This situation called for evidence of a comparison to resolve the debate. The aim of this study was to investigate midwifery students' experiences of the benefits and challenges between paper-based and ePortfolios when compiling evidence to meet the requirements for initial registration as a midwife in Australia (ANMAC, 2014). • Each type of portfolio had challenges and benefits. • Portfolio completion is time consuming, and stressful due to the need for verification of evidence. • Students require early and regular feedback on portfolio development. • National standards are required for consistency in documentation across universities. This discussion paper highlights the importance of Australian nursing and midwifery students' lack of exposure to electronic medical records during their undergraduate programs. There is pressure on universities offering nursing and midwifery programs to provide students with opportunities to learn to use patient electronic medical records. This will provide authentic rehearsal with the digital technology prior to clinical placements and increase graduate work readiness. Informed by contemporary literature, we describe the benefits of implementing electronic medical records (eMR) in health organisations and identify the challenges and barriers to implementing and integrating the education of electronic records into undergraduate nursing and midwifery programs. Undergraduate students who had not experienced eMR as part of on-campus learning felt unprepared and lacked confidence when commencing clinical practice. Some international nursing and midwifery programs have found that student's skills improve in decision-making and documenting patient observations when eMR is integrated into their university education program. Successful integration of an eMR program should consider academic/teaching staff skills and confidence in technology use, initial and ongoing costs and technical support required to deliver the program. In conclusion, Australian universities need to embed eMR learning experiences into the nursing and midwifery undergraduate curricula to increase students work-readiness with a focus on patient safety. This article examines the growing phenomenon of signing documents electronically through cloud-based platforms, and is in two parts. This Part A describes the process and concludes that documents signed in that way can generally satisfy requirements for signing and writing, not only when electronic transactions legislation is applied, but also under general law. Part B will conclude that documents can be signed in that way under s 127 of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). It will also conclude that where electronic transactions legislation applies one can have effective electronic deeds. Although Australia's population is concentrated in major urban centres along its coastal fringe, its less populous rural communities are important to society and the economy—supporting sectors like agriculture, which occupies over half the continent's land mass and accounts for 2.2% of value added gross domestic product (GDP) (Jackson et al., 2020). The vast distances between urban and rural centres present challenges to the provision of essential infrastructure like roads, transport, energy – and telecommunications. Within this last category, internet connectivity and skills are both increasingly necessary and historically less available to the regional and rural agricultural sector in comparison to other industries and geographic communities. The digital inclusion agenda in Australia aims to address such gaps by promoting and supporting people and communities to use technology to improve social and economic well-being. This article builds on research underpinning the Australian Digital Inclusion Index (ADII), which defines digital inclusion as the capacity of people to access , afford and use online technologies effectively. The article focuses on the nature and extent of digital inclusion for Australia's farmers (identified as farmers and farm managers) based on analysis of a customised set of primary data extracted from the ADII dataset. This analysis reveals generally low levels of digital inclusion in rural communities, particularly among farmers, with distinctive and complex characteristics across measures of Access, Affordability and Digital Ability. Our findings highlight a perplexing scenario in which farmers score poorly on the Index when compared to Australians who live in similar circumstances but are not employed in the farming sector. We attribute lower levels of access to limited internet technology options, lower data speeds, inadequate reliability and lower data allowances. Less affordability is associated with individual-level socioeconomic factors, along with lack of competition between service providers in sparse population areas, the comparative cost of building telecommunications infrastructure in the bush, and the need for redundancy in rural and remote solutions. Finally, lower digital ability scores reflect social, cultural and material practices on farms that have produced distinctive orientations to technology. We conclude the article by explaining the contributions of the paper to digital inclusion research and by making recommendations for policy development. • Farmers in rural Australia have low levels of digital inclusion across access, affordability and digital ability. • Low access and affordability may be attributed to insufficient internet infrastructure and limited technology and data. • Low ability may be attributed to demographic factors and social, economic and material practices. • Governments and industry should consider the development of digital skills programs tailored for the farming sector. This paper employs Stephanie Paterson’s empathic policy analysis framework to explore the discursive construction of emotional resilience. The research conducted for the paper focuses on Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s notion of emotional resilience during a press conference he delivered on October 15, 2023, in the context of the Voice referendum. Mr. Albanese discursively frames the concept of emotional resilience as emotional stability that builds the community’s resistance to crisis situations, enables progress, and avoids division. The study identifies two emotional discourses influencing this portrayal of emotional resilience: (1) a discourse of emotional stability among opponents of the Voice referendum and (2) a discourse of emotional stability among supporters of the referendum. Rapid advances in technology have resulted in a worldwide drive to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforces to remain internationally competitive and ensure economic prosperity. Despite this, there is ongoing debate about the best strategies for promoting STEM literacy and building national STEM competencies. Women continue to be under-represented within the Australian STEM workforce, impacting Australia's national performance and STEM pipeline figures. Several factors have been determined as crucial components impacting females' perceptions of the STEM fields, and their drive to pursue employment in these areas. One method for analysing these factors is to explore the personal narratives of women in STEM and STEM-related fields to determine which factors impact their engagement with STEM. Our research contributes to this ongoing debate by providing insight into the personal narratives of eight women who participated within the STEMinist Community of Practice (CoP) research project, and their fluid experiences of the STEM pipeline. This paper explores the key factors and experiences of the participants, including how their careers progressed over time; and related potential solutions for increasing the number of women in STEM. Additionally, this paper explores the criteria for being considered a 'STEM professional', and how this impacts the fluidity of the STEM pipeline for women. We utilised a qualitative narrative research design through the worldview of interpretivism and employed a storytelling methodology. Thematic analysis was undertaken, and four key themes emerged: influence, perception, self-perception, and community of practice. The research questions are answered through a series of vignettes providing a rich conception of participant experiences. Key recommendations from this article are the development of further communities of practice to empower women within STEM fields, and adjusting the criteria of STEM professionals to include STEM educators, to address STEM pipeline issues. The Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations (AFMLTA) is committed to expanding, domestically and internationally, the high profile of our federation as the peak body for languages educators in Australia. An important part of this commitment is engaging in strategic collaborative partnerships and advocacy at national and international levels. This paper reports on the Association for Language Learning UK (ALL) Conference Language World in Sheffield, England, in which the authors participated during March 2023. Language World offered a packed program with speakers from across the languages sector, with a large number coming from primary and secondary schools. Additionally, many involved in languages education governance in the UK also participated, providing insights into the challenges and successes in languages education policy in the UK. In this paper, stimulating and useful learning from Language World is showcased, which can be used to inform both how we support languages education in Australia and how we continue to engage with partners and collaborators around the world on matters of current concern and interest Through this learning we provide connection with the AFMLTA Professional Standards for Accomplished Teaching of Languages (AFMLTA, 2021), and in particular the dimension of "Active engagement with wider context". We explore how accomplished teachers of languages establish relationships to wider contexts and are able to connect the local to the global through collaborative partnerships and comparison of our respective policy documentation to support teachers and teaching of languages. Systematic conservation planning (SCP) is a field of conservation biology concerned with the effective allocation of conservation efforts and the implementation of actions aiming to guarantee biodiversity persistence in the long-term and the efficient use of conservation resources. Here, we evaluated the main spatial-temporal trends and patterns among highly-cited papers in SCP. We considered "highly-cited" articles as those papers with at least 100 citations according to Web of Science database. A total of 132 highly-cited articles were published between 1989 and 2014, with the highest frequency at 2006. Papers were published in 25 different scientific journals (with a highlight for Conservation Biology and Biological Conservation) by researchers from 208 institutions and 25 countries (most from Australia and USA). Most of the analytical and methodological studies were carried out in the terrestrial environment, by considering more than one taxonomic group, and at a regional scale. Eleven studies included information on costs (e.g., economic or land use) in the prioritization process, and only one article considered information on other biodiversity dimensions such as phylogenetic diversity. Among analytical papers, 41 included only biodiversity data in the prioritization process, while 16 papers considered data on other features such as ecosystem services, biophysical factors, and vegetation. Furthermore, a plethora of different algorithms and software were used to perform the analyses. This paper explores online brand advocacy (OBA) in a tourism destination context. Through a Social Influence Theory lens, it explores the ways in which residents and overseas tourists discuss Australia as a destination brand on social media. By analyzing a big dataset of social media user-generated content (UGC), this study sought to identify the key dimensions evident in positively valenced social media UGC, to see whether these dimensions varied between residents and overseas tourists, and to see whether the dimensions reflected OBA. The analyses found online destination brand advocacy (ODBA) had five dimensions: Destination Acknowledgement (hashtags), Destination Insights, Destination Positivity and Experience Sharing, Destination Brand Defence and Positive Virtual Visual Cues. The results have implications for the ways destination management organisations (DMOs) use social media. Suggestions for DMOs about incorporating ODBA in their marketing and branding strategies, are given at the conclusion of this paper. The introduction of statistical concepts into school curricula in Australia and New Zealand in the early 1990s initiated an ongoing research program into the learning and teaching of statistics and probability in both countries. This paper reviews the contribution of Australian and New Zealand researchers to building statistical literacy at school, alongside international developments. From recognising how students develop understanding of specific statistical and probabilistic concepts, through teacher knowledge and beliefs for teaching statistics, to intervention studies and targeted teaching, the field of statistics education has grown and changed. Statistics and probability are now well established as part of the mathematics curriculum. The importance of linking statistical literacy and statistical understanding across the curriculum, as well as in STEM, has also begun to receive attention as other subjects have recognised the importance of data in their fields. Following a comprehensive review of the field in Australia and New Zealand, this paper then considers emerging areas of interest, such as new approaches to data visualisation, and suggests future research. For many years, historical accounts of Australian Federation ignored the distinctive ideological origins of the Australian Constitution. From the mid 1980s until the 2000s, however, a generation of historians remembered how the Australian drafters built a distinctive constitutional democracy that combined trust in parliament with a direct constitutional role for a plural 'people': the people of Australia and the people of the states. Drawing on Chartist and American ideas of popular sovereignty, this system of popular political constitutionalism textually guarantees that 'the people' can 'directly' choose both houses of parliament, break deadlocks between these houses and make constitutional law. The definition of 'the people' in this distinctive form of constitutional democracy was, however, racially exclusive. In particular, First Australians were excluded from the plural people of Australia. This intellectual history of the Australian Constitution, however, has had remarkably little impact on constitutional interpretation and discourse. This paper will begin the process of examining those implications. First, it will show how this history provides important contextual support and direction to the implied limitations on parliamentary power that stem from the constitution's guarantee of representative democracy in sections 7 and 24 of the Constitution. Second, it will demonstrate how it aids in better understanding Australia's unique constitutional system. To date, this system has remedied the racist roots of the original constitutional definition of the people largely through legislative reform. The constitutional recognition of First Australians is a critical step in acknowledging that First Australians are a distinct part of the plural Australian people. In the aftermath of the failure of the First Nations Voice to Parliament proposal, meaningful constitutional recognition for First Australians must address their structural exclusion from the plural Australian people. The aim of this paper is to review the difficulties faced by overseas-born applicants, particularly Japanese, in seeking to practise medicine in Queensland and Western Australia before and during the period of the Immigration Restriction Act. It limits itself to those two colonies/states as they were the only ones to have a sufficient number and concentration of resident Japanese to attract a Japanese doctor. After tracing the history of the development of relevant medical legislation and examples of its early application in respect of various foreigners, the paper reviews the experiences of a number of Japanese who managed to practise, both with and without registration. Objective: Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up is the Professional Pharmaceutical Care Service aimed at detecting Drug-Related Problems for the prevention and resolution of negative medicine outcomes. The Dader Method is considered a clear and simple tool to develop Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up. This research aims to analyze the evolution of the international scientific production related to Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up and the Dader Method to show the current situation of this Professional Pharmacy Assistance Service. In addition, from the data obtained, we give a critical perspective on the implementation of the Dader Method in Community Pharmacy, considering its advantages and disadvantages based on the published scientific literature. Methods: Using bibliometrics tools, indicators were obtained to analyze the international production of scientific articles on Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up and the Dader Method during the period (1999-2022) through the Scopus database. Results: The results showed a growth in the international scientific production of publications on Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up, obtaining 30,287 papers, placing the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Spain as the five most productive countries. The publication of 83 papers on the Dader Method places Spain with the highest number of publications, followed by other Spanish or Portuguese speaking countries, among which Brazil and Colombia have the most prominent number of published papers in Latin America. The most frequent international journal covering the topic of Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up was the American Journal of Health-Pharmacy (12.4%), while on the Dader Method, the journal Pharmaceutical Care Spain (21.7%) is in the first position, followed by Farmacia Hospitalaria (8.4%). Conclusion: The publications on the Dader method highlighs the greater productivity of the University of Granada and the author María José Faus Dáder. The inclusion of patients in the PTF service using the Dader Method, is more frequent in the hospital context, and is based on the presence of defined chronic pathologies (mainly diabetes), polymedication or specialized care follow-up, with elderly population being the most represented in all cases. Australian violence prevention policies have highlighted that media representations reinforce and challenge the public's understanding of violence against women. Current primary prevention strategies have attempted to harness the media's influence by focusing on improving the quality of news reportage and the working practice of professional journalists. These strategies focus explicitly on news media as the site of public engagement. However, violence against women is depicted and discussed in various popular media sites in Australia. This article seeks to explore changes in the modes and locations of contemporary media representations of violence against women. Drawing from a case study of Australian true crime podcasts, this article demonstrates how alternative media resources have become powerful new sites of public engagement with information and stories about violence against women. Globally, food is recognized as an issue in urban areas regarding diet-related diseases, unhealthy food environments, disconnection from culture and social relations, and environmental unsustainability. Concurrently, food also has a critical role in addressing the complex challenges cities are facing. Food pedagogies has emerged as a key element in tackling these food-related issues. However, pedagogical aspects of food are yet to be broadly explored and no known conceptual pedagogical framework has been developed. This paper aims to inform development of a conceptual framework for the enactment of food pedagogies, based on community food leaders' perspectives and experiences. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with 39 experienced leaders from diverse food-related fields in Australia. Interviews were analyzed thematically. Four key themes emerged from participants' reflections on the current state of food-related activities: 'Awareness of food and food systems'; 'Enjoyment and social connections'; 'Experiential practices in everyday life': and 'Action for change.' These four themes are discussed both as aims of pedagogical practices and as essential pedagogical content for conceptualizing food pedagogies. A draft conceptual framework is developed to inform actions by policy makers, and public and private sector food practitioners to create healthy and sustainable societies through the medium of food. Introduction. In-person conferences provide attendees with the opportunity to extend their knowledge, networks and sense of belonging in their field. This paper reports on an investigation that compared attendance at virtual and in-person conferences to identify differences in the impacts for delegates Method. An online survey was distributed widely to attract responses from library and information professionals in Australia and internationally. The questionnaire was designed to gather data relating to in-person and virtual conference attendance. It included demographic questions, statements with Likert scale responses and open-ended free text. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were carried out on the data relating to 225 individual responses. Results. The findings of the study confirmed previously identified impacts of in-person conference attendance and highlighted the primary challenge of virtual conference attendance, which was the networking aspect. Some advantages of virtual conferences were found to be the lower cost, better accessibility and diversity of delegates. However, these potential advantages came with challenges, including distractions and loss of focus in an online environment. Conclusion. Despite their potential advantages of increased accessibility and lower environmental impact, virtual conferences lack opportunities for attendees to connect and socialise, which needs to be addressed to increase the impact of these events. A 7-month mathematics proficiency program was conducted in a primary Australian Indigenous community school. This paper focuses on outlining the specific methodologies employed to explore how students' mathematical proficiency changed throughout the implementation of the program in Years 2 to 4 (~ 7 to 9 years old). A mixed methods research design was utilised, and findings will be presented to evidence how the combination of standardised tests, diagnostic tests, and Newman interviews were useful in capturing and making visible young Indigenous student's mathematical proficiency. Whilst standardised tests provided a useful and comparable measure of student achievement, diagnostic tests and Newman interviews gave space for Indigenous student voice and demonstrated their strengths and areas for improvement in relation to their conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and strategic competence. From these findings, recommendations concerning the adjustment of data collection procedures for young students in this setting are presented. The findings question the accuracy of standardised tests in revealing young students' proficiency, and this has implications for the extent to which standardised tests are relied upon to inform educational reform particularly for Indigenous students. Striving for equitable educational outcomes is an important endeavour in Australia, and such undertakings must be driven by meaningful and accurate evidence of students' proficiency in mathematics. Remote work in cities is growing in popularity, fuelled by ongoing technological advances, the globalized knowledge economy, changing lifestyle preferences, the need to empower individuals, and - more recently - the effects of COVID-19. Social distancing measures introduced during the pandemic have inadvertently shown that a substantial proportion of work can be done from home or from third spaces such as co-working spaces. This paper offers a critical appraisal of the implications of this trend for neighbourhood planning and workplace design. The appraisal is in three parts. First, to set the scene, we review recent scholarship on changing work practices in the post-pandemic city. Second, we offer a summative account based on empirical data from a survey conducted by the City of Gold Coast in Australia. This survey explored the spatial distribution of remote, nomadic, and home-based workers in cities in order to discover certain socio-economic, design and built environment features that relate to this distribution. This illustrates the impact that an uptake of home-based work has for urban planning and community design. Third, we look at some of the working from home implications for career progression and productivity, as well as physical and mental health. Based on perspectives from architectural science, environmental psychology and design, this part of the paper employs human-building interaction design scholarship to argue for the design of healthy work environments - both at home and in neighbourhoods - that increase productivity, reduce sick days, and yield bett er health outcomes for the home-based workforce. This paper examines the relationship between policy compliance, the emergence of alternate epistemes and authorities in online spaces, and the decline of trust and legitimacy in democratic institutions. Drawing on insights from public policy, regulation theory, and political theory, the paper critically engages with scholarship on "policy-takers" to illuminate the tensions of compliance and legitimacy in liberal states. It proposes a compliance--legitimacy matrix that identifies the features of policy compliance--including consent, legitimacy, expertise, and trust--and their relationship to the disaggregation of policy knowledge. The article applies this framework to a case study of social media posts that respond to policy information during the management of the Covid-19 pandemic in Australia. Through analysis of these posts, the study reveals the distrust in "the science" and experts advocated by government and the calls from skeptic groups for noncompliance with public health measures. The paper argues that public policy faces an epistemic crisis of public confidence, with significant downstream consequences for compliance with public policy initiatives that has been brought on both by the failures of states to cultivate trust in science and the government. Despite the abundant literature on the need for grassroots food system reform, the process for achieving such reform is less understood from the perspective of multi-scalar coalition building. Using semi-structured interviews with civic food coalition leaders in Australia, our paper examines the strengths and struggles associated with collectivising, collaborating, and planning that civic food coalitions experience as they aim to drive wider transformations in food systems. Findings indicate a need to pay heightened attention during the early stages of coalition formation, as this is when coalitions form a sustainable structure as they begin to scale up. In addition to gaining a better understanding of these internal dynamics, we argue that civic food coalitions can be one pathway to transform the food system, as they serve as an important catalyst to bring food-related issues (such as social and environmental justice) to the forefront in building alliances and collective action across communities. Studio music teachers have always been constant in Australian society, rarely recognised beyond their immediate surrounds. Building a 'connection' of students required advertising, primarily by word-of-mouth or via local press announcements. Few teachers placed individual advertisements in local papers. This changed in 1911 with the establishment of monthly The Australian Musical News, intended to report and support musicians and music teachers. In its first edition, four studio music teachers placed advertisements, first to use this new opportunity. We unfold the stories of Mrs. Arthur Royce, Herr Franz O. Schieblich, James Ure, and J. Alfred Johnstone. By happenstance, their diverse careers capture the different ways of being a studio teacher in contemporary Australia. We note the unchanging nature of studio music teaching and suggest that, with the exception of technologies, the activities of these four teachers resonate with modern practice. Public health agencies (PHAs) have increasingly incorporated social media into their communication mix during successive pandemics in the 21st century. However, the quality, timing, and accuracy of their health messages have varied significantly, resulting in mixed outcomes for communication, audience engagement, and pandemic management. This study aimed to identify factors influencing the effectiveness of pandemic-related health messages shared by PHAs on social media and to report their impact on public engagement as documented in the literature. A scoping literature review was conducted following a predefined protocol. An electronic search of 7 relevant databases and 5 grey literature repositories yielded 9,714 papers published between January 2003 and November 2022. Seventy-three papers were deemed eligible and selected for review. The results underscored the insufficiency of social media guidance policies for PHAs. Six themes were identified: message source, message topic, message style, message timing, content credibility and reliability, and message recipient profile. These themes encompassed 20 variables that could inform PHAs’ social media public health communication during pandemics. Additionally, the findings revealed potential interconnectedness among the variables, and this study concluded by proposing a conceptual model that expands upon existing theoretical foundations for developing and evaluating pandemic-related health messaging. The paper explores the relationship between the regulatory requirements to be registered to teach and the provisions to meet these requirements in the initial teacher education programs in Australia. This is part of a broader study of the regulatory requirements for music and art teachers in primary and secondary schools in Australia, and only the music component will be reported in the paper. The statutory regulatory authorities (often referred to as teaching institutes) in each educational jurisdiction mandate the professional and academic requirements for registration to teach. These authorities outline the amount of study required to be registered to teach in primary and secondary schools across Australia. The actual requirements differ between the various States and Territories. To teach in primary schools a graduate is required to demonstrate an ability to cover the eight key learning areas (including the Arts) and specifically in literacy and numeracy. For teaching in secondary schools a graduate must evidence of successful study in two designated teaching areas (often across two learning areas). Across Australia, over the last decade there have been moves from undergraduate degrees in Education (with specialist/major studies) to undergraduate degrees followed by two-year Master of Teaching degrees. The registration authorities recognise both initial teacher education pathways into the profession. The universities have been regularly criticised for their reduced provision (and delivery) of specific discipline content in the initial teacher education programs, and continue to respond that they are delivering what is required by the registration requirements of the regulators. This ongoing response has resulted in significantly reduced time for areas such as Music, which is included in the broader Arts key learning area, with an expectation that a student will be exposed to a range of the disciplines in the Arts and not focus on one discipline. For many observers Australia's approach to the threat of nuclear proliferation under the government of Prime Minister John Howard (1996–2007) was simply the product of its steadfast alignment of Australian foreign policy with that of the United States in the post-9/11 context. The Howard government's enthusiastic support for the 2003 US-led 'coalition of the willing' invasion of Iraq on the basis of Baghdad's alleged possession of 'weapons of mass destruction' (WMD) is taken as the most egregious example of this tendency. Yet this assumption ignores that the potential threat of nuclear proliferation had been an abiding concern for the government since it had entered office. This paper argues that there was an enduring dynamic in Australian foreign and strategic policy of perceiving a direct link between the fate of the prevailing international system and that of Australia's own national security. To this end, the Howard government's perception of the threat of nuclear proliferation was sensitive to trends at the global level, most particularly the strategic posture and preferences of its alliance partner, the United States. The paper demonstrates, however, that this weakened the Howard government's ability to maintain fidelity with what had become Australia's traditional activist diplomacy within the non-proliferation regime. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to propose a paradigm shift for assessing the underlying issues pertaining to the legal concerns of Corporate Manslaughter caused ostensibly by management and executives. Where the causes can be traced to either direct involvement of individuals or corporate culture. Method: The paper deals with the arguments for and against the need for this special legislation compared to the existing Occupational Health and Safety legislation. The issue of narcissistic corporations and psychopaths in the executive positions are also raised. Implications: The paper provides a general argument for consideration of Amending the Corporations Act (a Federal legislation) to encompass Corporate Manslaughter within the Regulations. The argument hinges on the notion that it should extend beyond the coverage of mere Occupational Health and Safety legislation. In essence the argument is that a paradigm shift is called for when considering Corporate Manslaughter in order to implement charges against managers and directors of a corporation. Further the Corporations Act already provides a clearer set of guidelines for allocating responsibility within an organisation thus overcoming the problems faced with allocating blame under the Crimes Act of any of the States or Territories - in effect this suggested amendment would be more aligned with the nuances of corporations. The paper explores the relationship between economic openness, development and urbanisation in sustainable ecosystems. The investigation is based on the balanced panel data for QUAD countries from 1991 to 2019. By using PMG-ARDL, this paper follows affiliation amid sustainability and openness. The results reported indicate the existence of an encouraging association between sustainability and urbanisation both in the case of Australia and India. The ECT value for all the panels is negative and noteworthy, confirming the existence of short-term affiliation too. The granger causality analysis also reveals that in the case of the US and India, there existed bidirectional causation amid sustainability and urbanisation. Knowing well that the countries are party to the “Kyoto Protocol and Paris agreement”, but there is still a necessity to preserve and promote the impetus concerning sustainability in arousing inclusive awareness concerning the realisation of sustainable ecosystems. More so, subsidising schemes and promoting awareness programmes are recommended, such as incentivising sustainable urban planning and green power purchase agreement and adoption of green bonds for energy infrastructure needs. Cities are under intensifying pressure to respond to climate change and growing social inequities. Integrating nature-based solutions, as part of essential city infrastructure, contributes to resilient, liveable and equitable cities, as well as provision of biodiversity habitat. There is increasing focus on how concepts of justice can be embedded in these planning and governance processes. This paper proposes a framework to inform planning for just nature-based cities. It brings together concepts of just city, environmental and climate justice and more-than-human thinking, with research on urban nature-based solutions. It highlights the centrality of epistemic justice, and the importance of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in just nature-based city planning and governance. The just nature-based city framework is applied to the case study of the Yarra River (Melbourne, Australia). In 2017, the Yarra River Protection (Wilip-gin Birrarung murron) Act, the first legislation in Australia to be co-titled in the Traditional Owners' language, legally recognised the river as a single living and integrated natural entity. Applying the just nature-based city framework, we find that there are both opportunities and challenges in this new approach to planning. While the Act and associated programs represent substantial and innovative advances, their scope is limited by exclusion of key policy domains and a focus on waterway corridor rather than catchment. The paper concludes by reinforcing the importance of a broadened understanding of justice, that spans both human and non-human considerations, and foregrounds Traditional Owners' perspectives and aspirations in designing, planning and governing just nature-based cities. • 'Just nature-based cities' integrate theories of just cities, nature-based solutions and epistemic justice. • The 'just nature-based city' framework can be applied as both a planning and an analytical tool. • Yarra River-Birrarung is a case study of new approaches to just nature-based city governance. This paper examines how the concept of 'place' could be integrated in the regeneration process for the industrial suburb of Salisbury in Queensland, Australia and how the three Bs can be used as a framework to study the evolution and the possible futures of the suburb. The paper draws on data collected from interviews with stakeholders as well as the outcomes of a Design Studio course as well as a panel organized for a University of Queensland event on placemaking in 2018 as a practical way of exploring potential scenarios for place-based regeneration of the suburb. The aim of the paper is both to understand the current transformation process of this suburb and to develop recommendations for a regeneration process integrating the concept of 'place' in the South East Queensland (SEQ) context where regeneration principles are not well integrated into local plans for the suburb of Salisbury. The paper highlights two conflicting views about the regeneration process and placemaking. The conclusion outlines recommendations to promote a regeneration process that could be adapted for both the Salisbury and the greyfields context for South East Queensland and would reconcile the two visions of what the regeneration of Salisbury should be. Edward Trautner (1890-1978) was a pharmacologist at the University of Melbourne in the 1940s and 50s who did pioneering work on lithium treatment for psychiatric disorders. His unusual past was a topic of great interest among his colleagues, who often creatively embroidered his story in the retelling. This paper introduces Trautner as his colleagues remembered him, and tells the true story of his childhood in Bavaria, his combat experience in World War I, his turn to anarchist politics and literary experiment in the 1920s, his bohemian life in Spain and England in the 1930s, his deportation to Australia in 1940, and his transformation then (at the age of 50) into a leading medical scientist. This paper examines the relationship between early childhood music and maths. The emphasis is on children as intuitive pattern makers as they explore, categorise and imagine their worlds. We argue for the careful listening of childhood languages and reason that music and maths are expressive languages that young children use to investigate and experiment. This concept is based on Malaguzzi’s idea of the hundred languages of children. Children’s explorations of patterns, whether music, maths or other media will follow the principle of symmetry. We observe the intersectionality of language/s. Data are drawn from video and teaching materials prepared for early childhood teachers in-service training in Australia. Framing the discussion with Vygotskian and developmental theories we identify the patterns a child makes in a music discovery video and categorise the child’s actions to combine both musical and mathematical concepts within the one action. The aim of the research is to revisit early childhood curriculum and pedagogy, rethinking sources of knowledge and the value of treating arts and sciences as being of equal importance as children discover and define their worlds. In recent decades, there has been an increased focus on the identification, storage, and treatment of polymer-based plastic materials in cultural heritage collections. While the need for the preservation of plastics in audio-visual collections is well established, there is evidence that unstable plastics are also associated with paper-based collections. This paper investigates whether libraries and archives need to direct preservation resources towards risks posed by plastics in paper-based collections. As there is no available documentation on the types and condition of associated plastics, Australian archives were surveyed using an online questionnaire. Respondents reported associated plastics in over 90% of archives, and ∼50% observed these to be in poor condition. First Nations perspectives on the Frontier Wars are gaining increasing interest in historical, academic, political and social spheres. The arrival of squatters and miners brought momentous change to Ewamian people in Queensland's Gulf savannah. Aboriginal resistance was followed by European reprisals, a pattern seen across Australia. A key aim of our paper is to address the dominant view of how Ewamian contact history is presented -- Ewamian people did not passively accept the arrival of Europeans; the historic sources describe a resistance that continued over 35 years in three distinct phases. This paper has two aims. First, we challenge the colonial narrative that describes Ewamian as passive respondents to European colonialism. Second, we reinterpret the colonial narratives to identify three phases of resistance in the Ewamian estate in response to the changing nature of the colonial frontier in Queensland's Gulf savannah. Mental health at workplaces has taken a new dimension since the pandemic spread across the world. This research paper is an exploratory paper to understand the impact of COVID-19 on workplaces and their employees in the context of mental health. The pandemic highlighted the need to look at human beings as a whole self. Mental health became a reality as felt in waves of the Great Resignation movement. Burnout was experienced by many employees who were working already in high-pressure jobs pre-COVID. This study explores the impact of pandemic on health care workers (HCW) in hospitals and academics working in the tertiary sector in Australia. This is a qualitative study based on secondary research and partly based on the lived experience of the author. This paper delves into the causes of workplace stress and its impact on well-being of the workforce. Some strategies for managing these issues are recommended. Ability grouping of students into separate classes within a school can be called 'betweenclass ability grouping'. This practice has persisted in Australia despite evidence that it is socially inequitable and does not improve academic outcomes. A systematic review of peer-reviewed literature about between-class ability grouping in Australia from 2012-2022 reveals only N=28 papers that meet the inclusion criteria. These papers are critiqued and synthesised into four main findings that characterise Australian research about between-class ability grouping from 2012-2022. The findings reveal a lack of substantive inquiry with most studies having limited scope and drawing on outdated or overly generalised data. International studies gloss over vital details about how betweenclass ability grouping is practised in Australia, while research conducted from within Australia reflects enduring tensions between gifted and talented, and social equity agendas. Further research that characterises the range of Australian grouping practices and their effects on students could be used to inform decisions about how to group students into classes in secondary schools. Strange as it may seem, Treasury, brewers, winemakers, distillers and drinkers all share a common interest: The taxation of alcohol and its price elasticity of demand. Treasury needs this information to determine revenue, the industry for pricing purposes, and drinkers bear the burden of taxation. This paper presents new estimates of demand elasticities of beer, wine and spirits for Australia. The estimates are considerably lower than those of Srivastava et al. (2014), who used monthly, off-premise consumption. Frequency of purchase and location of drinking are most likely the source of the differences. The paper demonstrates the importance of demand elasticities with simulations of changes in the tax mix for alcoholic beverages with partial and general equilibrium approaches. In this paper, the combination of an art-based, participatory intervention (#soundslikesustainability; 2022) and an online conversation (#iSustain, public facebook group, 2020-2022) are presented as examples for communication about and for sustainability (Weder, 2021a) and possible way to promote the SDGs in a local area (here: in a metropolitan region in Australia). These two examples were theoretically conceptualized as "conversational spaces" (offline & online) and, retrospectively, explored and analyzed as case studies with a mixedmethod content analysis (thematic & frame analysis). The findings of these case studies show how particularly students and staff in a higher education setting started to collaboratively generate an understanding of sustainability and sustainable behavior by negotiation, by sharing their own examples, perspectives and challenges. Furthermore, the students started to take responsibility, advocacy and authorship for transformation and creating their own sustainability stories for sustainable development. Beyond these insights, the presented case studies show how conversational problematization and sensemaking in online and offline conversational spaces around sustainability can be initiated by creating innovative and sometimes unsettling moments of reflection. The paper contributes to the emerging area of sustainability communication, works with a critical environmental communication pedagogical approach (following Weder & Milstein, 2021) and offers innovative ideas for local engagement and community building where transformation and a bottom-up cultivation of sustainability can be realized - especially in a context of missed opportunities, a lack of political strategies and dominant economic interest in sustainability issues, like Australia. Australia used to be an active law enforcer in the Southern Ocean in the 2000s and manifested its fulfillment of multiple roles and duties in exercising jurisdictions effectively to deter the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing in this region. This paper provides an updated review of Australia's maritime enforcement against IUU fishing. Australia's approach to combating IUU fishing in the Southern waters has been reflected in its legislation, institutional arrangements, as well as judicial cases. This paper examines international and national laws relevant to Australia's jurisdictions in the Southern Ocean, as well as critically reviews Australia's institutional arrangements and availability of military resources in maritime enforcement. "Rural Australia" has long been a special site of political contestation. Staking the terms of public depictions of "the rural", "the bush", or "country life" is a constitutive thread running through Australian settler colonial identity and a cornerstone of national electoral politics. This paper analyses major News Corporation media outlets' presentation of an evolving political campaign, comparing contesting representations of farming and rural Australia deployed by the Morrison Coalition government and advocacy group Farmers for Climate Action, in the period between the government's re-election in May 2019 and July 2021. The paper steps through the key tactical discursive moves made by these contesting parties. It argues that in their depictions of rural Australia there are two important features that these perspectives share. Both embrace a discourse of increased agricultural productivity inspired by high-tech innovation, and both are silent on the related social and economic transformations that undergird the "crisis" of the rural.
