Tires, apart from being formed by rubber and filling materials, contain organic compounds added to make them resistant and durable. The widely use of recycled tire crumb rubber (RTCR), main product of the shredding process of end-of-life tires, can cause human exposure to these chemicals due to its use in synthetic football fields and kid's playgrounds. In 2023, the European Commission banned the use of recycled tire crumb rubber in synthetic fields, giving eight years to replace the used material. This study intends to assess the oral bioaccessibility of antiozonants, cross-linking and vulcanizer agents present in RTCR. With this purpose, the Unified Bioaccessibility Method (BARGE) was used to simulate the material ingestion. RTCR is put into contact with the four simulated biological fluids including saliva, gastric and duodenal juice and bile, attempting to simulate human digestion. Afterwards, the organic compounds present in the fluid need to be extracted and Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) was the technique selected after being optimized to obtain the best extraction conditions. Ultrasound-assisted extraction was performed to evaluate the total concentration of the target compounds in the crumb rubber matrixes. Liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was employed to identify and quantify the target compounds. The results showed the bioaccessibility of all the studied analytes, with values ranging from 0.1 % up to 70 %. Benzothiazole was the compound with the highest bioaccessibility with a mean value of 40% and concentrations reaching 32000 ng g -1 in the bioaccessible fraction. N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine and its transformation product ((4-Methylpentan-2-yl)amino)-5-(phenylamino)cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione) showed an average bioaccessibility of 0.1 % and 1.8 %, respectively, the latter being present in all the analysed samples., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest. Introduction: The use of the N category of the TNM staging system, lymph node ratio (LNR) and log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS) in predicting overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with rectal cancer is still controversial., Material and Methods: A retrospective study of 445 patients with rectal cancer who underwent surgery between 2008 and 2017 in the University Complex Hospital was performed. Patients were stratified according to number of lymph nodes examined (NLNE), N staging, LNR and LODDS. The analysis was performed using the log-rank test, Kaplan-Meier functions, Cox regression and ROC curves., Results: Five-year OS and DFS were 73.7% and 62.5%, respectively. No statistically significant differences were observed depending on NLNE. Increased LNR and LODDS were associated with shorter OS and DFS, independently of NLNE. Multivariate analysis showed that N stage, LNR and LODDS were independently associated with OS and DFS; however, the LODDS system obtained the best area under the curve, with greater predictive capacity for OS (AUC: 0.679) and DFS (AUC: 0.711)., Conclusion: LODDS and LNR give prognostic information that is not related to NLNE. The use of compost tea is important to improve food safety. However, the effect of compost tea on N uptake and partitioning in tomato is unclear. In this study, we measured temporal and spatial changes in nitrogen content, enzyme activities, and expression levels of nitrogen transporters genes in different organs of tomato treated with five nutrient solutions. The results showed that the expression levels of ammonium transporter protein genes (AMT1s) increased and that of a nitrogen transporters gene (NRT2.1) decreased under treatment with compost tea, which promoted NH 4 + transport to the fruit and reduced nutrient wastage compared with the response to chemical fertilizers. In addition, the lowermost leaves on the stem showed reduced nitrate content, faster metabolism, and decreased chlorophyll a content, but fruit yield was not increased, in compost tea-treated plants. These changes were dependent on the expression level of the glutamine synthetase gene (GS1.1), which was increased in leaves and decreased in fruit. Compost tea influenced the expression of critical genes in the fruits and leaves, and improved the competitiveness of sexual reproductive growth as a sink for nitrogen. However, the benefits of compost tea were reduced when it was mixed chemical fertilizers. Chelator-assisted phytoremediation is an efficacious method for promoting the removal efficiency of heavy metals (HMs). The effects of N, N-bis(carboxymethyl)-L-glutamic acid (GLDA) and polyaspartic acid (PASP) on Cd uptake and pyrene removal by Solanum nigrum L. (S. nigrum) were compared in this study. Using GLDA or PASP, the removal efficiency of pyrene was over 98%. And PASP observably raised the accumulation and transport of Cd by S. nigrum compared with GLDA. Meanwhile, both GLDA and PASP markedly increased soil dehydrogenase activities (DHA) and microbial activities. DHA and microbial activities in the PASP treatment group were 1.05 and 1.06 folds of those in the GLDA treatment group, respectively. Transcriptome analysis revealed that 1206 and 1684 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were recognized in the GLDA treatment group and PASP treatment group, respectively. Most of the DEGs found in the PASP treatment group were involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, the biosynthesis of brassinosteroid and flavonoid, and they were up-regulated. The DEGs related to Cd transport were screened, and ABCG3, ABCC4, ABCG9 and Nramp5 were found to be relevant with the reduction of Cd stress in S. nigrum by PASP. Furthermore, with PASP treated, transcription factors (TFs) related to HMs such as WRKY, bHLH, AP2/ERF, MYB were down-regulated, while more MYB and bZIP TFs were up-regulated. These TFs associated with plant stress resistance would work together to induce oxidative stress. Introduction: Understanding why subjects with overweight and with obesity vary in their response to dietary interventions is of major interest for developing personalized strategies for body mass regulation., Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between changes in the urine metabolome and body mass during a breakfast meal intervention. Furthermore, we aimed to elucidate if the baseline urine metabolome could predict the response to the two types of breakfast meals (high versus low protein) during the intervention., Methods: A total of 75 young, women with overweight were randomly allocated to one of two intervention groups: (1) High-protein (HP) or (2) low-protein (LP) breakfast as part of their habitual diet during a 12-week intervention. Beside the breakfast meal, participants were instructed to eat their habitual diet and maintain their habitual physical activity level. Nuclear magnetic resonance-based metabolomics was conducted on urine samples collected at baseline (wk 0), mid-intervention (wk 6), and at endpoint (wk 12). At baseline and endpoint, body mass was measured and DXA was used to measure lean body mass and fat mass., Results: The baseline urine metabolite profile showed a slightly higher correlation (R2 = 0.56) to body mass in comparison with lean body mass (R2 = 0.51) and fat mass (R2 = 0.53). Baseline 24-h urinary excretion of trigonelline (p = 0.04), N, N-dimethylglycine (p = 0.02), and trimethylamine (p = 0.03) were significantly higher in individuals who responded with a reduction in body mass to the HP breakfast., Conclusions: Differences in the urine metabolome were seen for women that obtained a body weight loss in the response to the HP breakfast intervention and women who did not obtain a body weight loss, indicating that the urine metabolome contains information about the metabolic phenotype that influences the responsiveness to dietary interventions., (© 2024. Hydroquinone (HQ) in wastewater is of great concern, as it is harmful to human health and threatens the ecological environment. However, the existing adsorbents have low adsorption capacity for HQ. To improve the removal of HQ, N,S-codoped activated carbon-ZIF-67 (NSAC-ZIF-67@C) was synthesized in this study by in situ growth of ZIF-67 on N,S-codoped activated carbon (NSAC) and carbonization. The influence of pH, contact time, and initial concentration on the adsorption behaviors of NSAC-ZIF-67@C on HQ were investigated. Owing to the synergistic effect of abundant active sites and well-developed pore structure, the NSAC-ZIF-67@C achieved a prominent adsorption capacity of 962 mg·g -1 and can still retain high adsorption performance after 5 cycles for HQ, which is superior to that of reported other adsorbents. HQ adsorption follows the pseudo-second-order kinetics model ( R = 0.99999) and the Freundlich isotherm model. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis before and after adsorption as well as density functional theory (DFT) calculation results showed that pyridinic-N-termini were conducive to the π-π interactions and hydrogen-bonding interactions. Therefore, the adsorption mechanisms of NSAC-ZIF-67@C on HQ involve pore filling, electrostatic attraction, π-π interaction, and hydrogen bonding. The remarkable characteristics of porous biochar have generated significant interest in various fields, such as CO 2 capture and supercapacitors. The modification of aerogel-derived porous biochar through activation and heteroatomic doping can effectively enhance CO 2 adsorption and improve supercapacitor performance. In this study, a novel N, B-co-doped porous biochar (NBCPB) was synthesized by carbonating and activating the N, B dual-doped cellulose aerogel. N and B atoms were doped in-situ using a modified alkali-urea method. The potassium citrate was served as both an activator and a salt template to facilitate the formation of a well-developed nanostructure. The optimized NBCPB-650-1 (where 650 corresponded to activation temperature and 1 represented mass ratio of potassium citrate activator to carbonized NBCPB-400 precursor) displayed the largest micropore volume of 0.40 cm 3 ·g -1 and a high specific surface area of 891 m 2 ·g -1 , which contributed to an excellent CO 2 adsorption capacity of 4.19 mmol·g -1 at 100 kPa and 25 °C, a high CO 2 /N 2 selectivity, and exceptional reusability (retained >97.5 % after 10 adsorption-desorption cycles). Additionally, the NBCPB-650-1 electrode also delivered a high capacitance of 220.9 F·g -1 at 1 A·g -1 . Notably, the symmetrical NBCPB-650-1 supercapacitor exhibited a high energy density of 9 Wh·kg -1 at the power density of 100 W·kg -1 . The kinetics of the chlorination of leucine, isoleucine, and valine (BCAAs) was studied in excess HOCl by stopped-flow and spectrophotometric methods (25 ◦ C, I = 1.0 M NaClO 4 ). The intermediates and products were identified and monitored by 1 H NMR spectroscopy. It was established that these reactions are fully analogous and proceed according to distinct mechanisms under alkaline and neutral conditions. At high pH, the formation and subsequent rate determining decomposition of N-monochloroamino acid control the process. The decomposition occurs via competing pH-independent and OH - -assisted reaction paths and the sequence of chlorination, dichlorination and decarboxylation steps leads to the formation of N-chloroimines and their carbanionic forms, which are in fast acid - base equilibria. The dechlorination of the carbanions yields nitriles as the main products. The hydration of the N-chloro imines produces chloramine and aldehydes which are involved in further oxidation reactions with HOCl. The formation of chloroform and chloroacetaldehyde was confirmed in each system. At pH 7.0, the N-chloro derivatives of BCAAs form immediately and are converted into the corresponding N,N-dichloro species within a few seconds after mixing the reactants. In this reaction, the reactive form of the oxidant is Cl 2 O. The first-order decomposition of the dichloroamino acids occurs on stopped-flow timescale (k = 0.5 - 0.7 s -1 ) and yields N-chloroimines which slowly decompose with a characteristic first-order rate constant on the order of a few times 10 -5 s -1 . The main products are the corresponding nitriles that account for about 80% and 60% of the original amounts of amino acids under neutral and alkaline (c OH - = 5.00 × 10 -2 M) conditions, respectively. Aldehydes, carboxylic acids, chloroform and NCl 3 were also identified as by-products. The results unequivocally confirm that harmful chlorinated species may form from amino acids long after the chlorination step in water treatment technologies that deteriorates the quality of the finished water. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATION: In source waters, amino acids account for about 75% of the total dissolved nitrogen. Therefore, it is an essential issue how the reactions of these compounds with hypochlorite ion can be controlled to avoid the formation of toxic compounds. The compounds formed from BCAAs are considered to be harmful both under alkaline and neutral conditions (chloroacetaldehyde, chloroform, nitriles). Variations in arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) effects on plant growth (MGR) are commonly assumed to result from cost : benefit balances, with C as the cost and, most frequently, P as the benefit. The trade-balance model (TBM) adopts these assumptions and hypothesizes that mycorrhizal benefit depends on C : N : P stoichiometry. Although widely accepted, the TBM has not been experimentally tested. We isolated the parameters included in the TBM and tested these assumptions using it as framework. Oryza sativa plants were supplied with different N : P ratios at low light level, establishing different C : P and C : N exchange rates, and C, N or P limitation. MGR and effects on nutrient uptake, %M, ERM, photosynthesis and shoot starch were measured. C distribution to AM fungi played no role in MGR, and N was essential for all AM effects, including on P nutrition. C distribution to AM and MGR varied with the limiting nutrient (N or P), and evidence of extensive interplay between N and P was observed. The TBM was not confirmed. The results agreed with the exchange of surplus resources and source-sink regulation of resource distribution among plants and AMF. Cargo encapsulation through emulsion-based methods has been pondered over the years. Although several microemulsification techniques have been employed for the microcapsule's synthesis, there are still no clear guidelines regarding the suitability of one technique over the others or the impacts on the morphological and physicochemical stability of the final particles. Therefore, in this systematic study, we investigated the influence of synthesis parameters on the fabrication of emulsion-based microcapsules concerning morphological and physicochemical properties. Using poly(urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) microcapsules as a model system, and after determining the optimal core/shell ratio, we tested three different microemulsification techniques (magnetic stirring, ultrasonication, and mechanical stirring) and two different cargo types (100% TEGDMA (Triethylene glycol dimethacrylate) and 80% TEGDMA + 20% DMAM (N,N-Dimethylacrylamide)). The resulting microcapsules were characterized via optical and scanning electron microscopies, followed by size distribution analysis. The encapsulation efficiency was obtained through the extraction method, and the percentage reaction yield was calculated. Physicochemical properties were assessed by incubating the microcapsules under different osmotic pressures for 1 day and 1, 2, or 4 weeks. The data were analyzed statistically with one-way ANOVA and Tukey's tests (α = 0.05). Overall, the mechanical stirring resulted in the most homogeneous and stable microcapsules, with an increased reaction yield from 100% to 50% in comparison with ultrasonication and magnetic methods, respectively. The average microcapsule diameter ranged from 5 to 450 µm, with the smallest ones in the ultrasonication and the largest ones in the magnetic stirring groups. The water affinities of the encapsulated cargo influenced the microcapsule formation and stability, with the incorporation of DMAM leading to more homogeneous and stable microcapsules. Environmental osmotic pressure led to cargo loss or the selective swelling of the shells. In summary, this systematic investigation provides insights and highlights commonly overlooked factors that can influence microcapsule fabrication and guide the choice based on a diligent analysis of therapeutic niche requirements.

While N, N'-substituted p-phenylenediamines (PPDs) and their quinone derivatives (PPDQs) have been widely detected in the environment, there is currently limited data on their occurrence in humans. In this study, we conducted the first serum analysis of two PPDs and PPDQs in the healthy and secondary nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (S-NAFLD) cohorts in South China. The concentrations of four oxidative stress biomarkers (OSBs), namely, 8-iso-prostaglandin F 2α (8-PGF 2α ), 11β-prostaglandin F 2α (11-PGF 2α ), 15(R)-prostaglandin F 2α (15-PGF 2α ), and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine in serum samples were also measured. Results showed that N-(1,3-dimethybutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (6PPD) quinone was the predominant target analytes both in the healthy and S-NAFLD cohorts, with the median concentrations of 0.13 and 0.20 ng/mL, respectively. Significant (p < 0.05) and positive correlations were found between 6PPD concentration and 8-PGF 2α , 11-PGF 2α , and 15-PGF 2α in both the healthy and S-NAFLD cohorts, indicating that 6PPD may be associated with lipid oxidative damage. In addition, concentrations of 6PPD in serum were associated significantly linked with total bilirubin (β = 0.180 μmol/L, 95%CI: 0.036-0.396) and direct bilirubin (DBIL, β = 0.321 μmol/L, 95%CI: 0.035-0.677) related to hepatotoxicity. Furthermore, 8-PGF 2α , 11-PGF 2α , and 15-PGF 2α mediated 17.1%, 24.5%, and 16.6% of 6PPD-associated DBIL elevations, respectively. 3-Nitro-l-tyrosine (3NT) is an oxidative stress metabolite associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and rheumatoid arthritis. In this study, the N, S-co-doped graphene quantum dots (NSGQDs) derived from nitrogen-doped Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheet via the hydrothermal method in the presence of mercaptosuccinic acid was synthesized as an optical sensing probe to detect 3NT in human serum. Tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide, the nitrogen source and delamination agent, was used to prepare nitrogen-doped MXene nanosheets via one step at room temperature. The as-prepared NSGQDs are uniform with an average size of 1.2 ± 0.6 nm, and can be stable in aqueous solution for at least 90 d to serve as the fluorescence probe. The N atoms in N-MXene reduce the restacking and aggregation of MXene nanosheets, while the sulfur dopant in NSGQDs increases the quantum yield from 6.2 to 12.1 % as well as enhances the selectivity of 3NT over the other 12 interferences via coordination interaction with nitro group in 3NT. A linear range of 0.02-150 μM in PBS and 0.05-200 μM in human serum with a recovery of 97-108 % for 3NT detection is observed. Moreover, the limit of detection can be lowered to 4.2 and 7 nM in PBS and 1 × diluted human serum, respectively. Bulk carbon-based materials can enhance anaerobic biodenitrification when they are present in extracellular matrices. However, little information is available on the effect of nitrogen and iron co-doped carbon dots (N, Fe-CDs) with sizes below 10 nm on this process. This work demonstrated that Fe-N X formed in N, Fe-CDs and their low surface potentials facilitated electron transfer. N, Fe-CDs exhibited good biocompatibility and were effectively absorbed by Pseudomonas stutzeri ATCC 17588. Intracellular N, Fe-CDs played a dominant role in enhancing anaerobic denitrification. During this process, the nitrate removal rate was significantly increased by 40.60% at 11 h with little nitrite and N 2 O accumulation, which was attributed to the enhanced activities of the electron transport system and various denitrifying reductases. Based on proteomics and metabolomic analysis, N, Fe-CDs effectively regulated carbon/nitrogen/sulfur metabolism to induce more electron generation, less nitrite/N 2 O accumulation, and higher levels of nitrogen removal. This work reveals the mechanism by which N, Fe-CDs enhance anaerobic denitrification and broaden their potential application in nitrogen removal.

Modulating the electronic configuration of the substrate to achieve the optimal chemisorption toward polysulfides (LiPSs) for boosting polysulfide conversion is a promising way to the efficient Li-S batteries but filled with challenges. Herein, a Co/CoS 2 heterostructure is elaborately built to tuning d-orbital electronic structure of CoS 2 for a high-performance electrocatalyst. Theoretical simulations first evidence that Co metal as the electron donator can form a built-in electric field with CoS 2 and downshift the d-band center, leading to the well-optimized adsorption strength for lithium polysulfides on CoS 2 , thus contributing a favorable way for expediting the redox reaction kinetics of LiPSs. As verification of prediction, a Co/CoS 2 heterostructure implanted in porous hollow N, S co-doped carbon nanocage (Co/CoS 2 @NSC) is designed to realize the electronic configuration regulation and promote the electrochemical performance. Consequently, the batteries assembled with Co/CoS 2 @NSC cathode display an outstanding specific capacity and an admirable cycling property as well as a salient property of 8.25 mAh cm -2 under 8.18 mg cm -2 . N, S-dual doping graphene aerogels with three dimensional interconnected network and large specific surface area have been fabricated by cellulose nanofibers (CNF), Eucalyptus wood tar-based activated carbon (AC), and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for the energy storage applications as well as the removal of Cr(VI). Benefiting from the particular pore structural characteristics, the optimized activated carbon aerogel electrode (GDAC) exhibited prominent capacitances of 813.8 F/g at 1 A/g, and prominent cycling stability. The Ragone plot for the GDAC supercapacitor depicted that the energy density reached maximum (50 Wh/kg) when the power density was 370 W/kg. As far as the adsorption capacity of GDAC for Cr(VI), GDAC achieved a removal rate of 97 % for Cr(VI) and a maximum adsorption capacity of 939.20 mg/g. The fabrication method and excellent performance of GDAC proposed in this study provided new perspective into the potential application of Eucalyptus wood tar-based materials in the supercapacitor applications. A method utilizing nitrogen-doped and sulfur-doped carbon quantum dots (N, S-CQDs) as fluorescent probes for the rapid detection of Fe 3+ , L-ascorbic acid (AA), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) was presented. The fluorescence intensity of N, S-CQDs nanoprobes can be rapidly and efficiently quenched by Fe 3+  and based on the fluorescence "turn off-on" characteristic of N, S-CQDs nanoprobes, the fluorescence signals of the N, S-CQDs/Fe 3+ can be recovered after the addition of AA. By coupling a fluorescent nanoprobe to an enzyme and L-ascorbic acid-2-phosphate (AA2P), a green, simple, rapid and effective fluorescent analytical method for the determination of ALP was developed. The prepared N, S-CQDs showed high sensitivity and selectivity to Fe 3+ , AA and ALP with the detection limit of 0.42 μM, 12.7 nM and 0.017 U·L -1  and their optimal concentration ranges were10-600 µM, 10-200 μM, 0.18-54 U·L -1 , respectively. The fluorescence quantum yield of N, S-CQDs (0.2 mg·mL -1 ) at 393 nm excitation wavelength was 4.41%. Additionally, the fluorescent nanoprobes have been employed to successfully measure ALP in serum samples. Deciphering the impact of single and combined contamination of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and heavy metals on soil microecosystems is essential for the remediation of contaminated habitats, yet it remains incompletely understood. In this study, we employed high-throughput sequencing to investigate the impact of single TPH contamination, single metal contamination, and their co-contamination on soil microbial diversity, assembly mechanisms, composition, ecological function, and resistome. Our results revealed that contamination led to a reduction in alpha diversity, with single contamination displaying lower diversity compared to co-contamination, depending on the concentration of pollutants. Community beta diversity was primarily driven by turnover rather than nestedness, and narrower ecological niches were detected under pollution conditions. The neutral community model suggested that homogenizing dispersal played a significant role in the community assembly process under single TPH or co-contamination, while homogeneous selection dominated under heavy metals pollution. Procrustes analysis demonstrated a correlation between community composition and functional divergence, while Mantel tests linked this divergence to concentrations of Cr, Cr 6+ , Pb, and TPH. Interestingly, soils co-polluted with TPH and heavy metals exhibited similar genera, community functions, and resistomes as soils contaminated with only metals, highlighting the significant impact of heavy metals. Ecological functions related to carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and sulfur (S) cycles were enhanced under TPH pollution but impaired under heavy metals stress. Background: Currently, there is limited research on the specific relationship between N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) exposure and the odds of kidney stones. We aimed to investigate the relationship between DEET exposure and the prevalence of kidney stones., Methods: We included 7,567 qualified participants in our research from the 2007-2016 NHANES survey. We carried out three logistic regression models to explore the potential association between DEET exposure and the odds of kidney stones. Spline smoothing with generalized additive models (GAM) was utilized to assess the non-linear relationship and restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves was to determine the dose-response association. Multivariate regression models were used to conduct stratified analysis and sensitivity analysis., Results: Baseline characteristics of study participants presented the distribution of covariables. Regression analysis revealed that the odds of kidney stones were positively associated with the main metabolites of 3-diethyl-carbamoyl benzoic acid (DCBA) (log2) (OR = 1.05, 95% CI 1.02 to 1.08). The fourth quartile of urine DCBA showed a greater risk of kidney stones in the fully adjusted model (OR = 1.36, 95% CI 1.08 to 1.72). Another DEET metabolite of N, N-diethyl-3-hydroxymethylbenzamide (DHMB) was used to confirm the accuracy and stability of the results. The spline smoothing curve represented two main DEET metabolites had similar no-linear relationships and a positive trend with kidney stones proportion. RCS implied that the incidence of kidney stones rose with increasing levels of DEET exposure. High-risk groups on kidney stones were exhibited by stratified analysis under DEET exposure., Conclusion: Our study suggests that DEET exposure is positively associated with odds of kidney stones. Background: Carbon quantum dot (CQDs) are zero-dimensional carbon nanomaterials with a size of less than 10 nm CQDs are widely used in the field of ion detection by virtue of their fluorescence characteristics such as strong fluorescence intensity, good optical stability and tunable emission wavelength. Although the traditional atomic absorption method, electrochemical method and other metal ion detection methods are highly sensitive, the operation is complex, expensive and limited by the site. Therefore, we prepared the N, S-CQDs capable of detecting Hg 2+ and MnO 4 - in water with the advantages of simple operation, low cost, and direct visual signal., Results: N, S-CQDs with high-quantum yield (77.68%), uniform particle size (0.4 nm-2.6 nm) and green fluorescence were created utilizing a one-pot hydrothermal process with the precursors ASDA-Na4 and m-phenylenediamine. N, S-CQDs has good optical properties such as high fluorescence intensity, wavelength independence, up-conversion luminescence and fluorescence stability. We examined 27 common ions in water and found that the fluorescence of N, S-CQDs could be selectively quenched by Hg 2+ and MnO 4 , and the detection limits are 0.41 μM and 1.2 μM, respectively. Objective: The present study aimed to analyze mammography and ultrasonography (US) manifestations of sclerosing lymphocytic lobulitis (SLL) of the breast., Methods: A total of 8 pathologically confirmed SLL lesions from seven women (with one patient having bilateral breast lesions) were included in the study. All patients underwent preoperative mammography and US examinations. The findings from both modalities were classified and compared to their corresponding clinical data., Results: Four patients were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. Mammography results revealed that seven lesions presented as focal asymmetry or asymmetry. Seven lesions were observed as non-mass lesions on US examination. The most commonly observed US lesion features were as follows: seven lesions had focal non-ductal hypoechoic areas (87.5%), seven lesions exhibited posterior shadowing (87.5%), all lesions showed no vascularity or vessels in the rim (100%), no lesion had calcifications (0%), five lesions had an elasticity score of 3 (100%), one lesion showed retraction on the coronal plane (20%), and one lesion displayed a skipping sign on the coronal plane (20%). Based on these US findings, seven lesions (87.5%) were classified as BI-RADS 4., Conclusion: The mammography findings for SLL are often nonspecific. However, the US features of SLL typically present as non-mass lesions. Enhanced catalysis for organic transformation is essential for the synthesis of high-value compounds. Atomic metal species recently emerged as highly effective catalysts for organic reactions with high activity and metal utilization. However, developing efficient atomic catalysts is always an attractive and challenging topic in the modern chemical industry. In this work, we report the preparation and activity enhancement of nitrogen- and sulfur-codoped holey graphene (NSHG) with the anchoring of atomic metal Pd. When employed as the catalyst for nitroarenes reduction reactions, the resultant Pd/NSHG composite exhibits remarkably high catalytic activity due to the co-existence of dual-active components (i.e., catalytically active NSHG support and homogeneous dispersion of atomic metal Pd). In the catalytic 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction reaction, the efficiency (turnover frequency) is 3.99 × 10 -2 mmol 4-NP/(mg cat.·min), which is better than that of metal-free nitrogen-doped holey graphene (NHG) (2.3 × 10 -3 mmol 4-NP/(mg cat.·min)) and NSHG carbocatalyst (3.8 × 10 -3 mmol 4-NP/(mg cat.·min)), the conventional Pd/C and other reported metal-based catalysts. This work provides a rational design strategy for the atomic metal catalysts loaded on active doped graphene support. The resultant Pd/NSHG dual-active component catalyst (DACC) is also anticipated to bring great application potentials for a broad range of organic fields, such as organic synthesis, environment treatment, energy storage and conversion.

The protein activator of protein kinase R (PKR) (PACT) has been shown to play a crucial role in stimulating the host antiviral response through the activation of PKR, retinoic acid-inducible gene I, and melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5. Whether PACT can inhibit viral replication independent of known mechanisms is still unrevealed. In this study, we show that, like many viruses, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) hijacks GSK-3β to facilitate its replication. GSK-3β-induced phosphorylation on N protein increased the interaction between N protein and nsp3. Thus, GSK-3β-N-nsp3 cascade promotes viral replication. Although SARS-CoV-2 can sabotage the activation of AKT, the upstream proteins suppressing the activation of GSK-3β, we found that the host can use PACT, another protein kinase, instead of AKT to decrease the activity of GSK-3β and the interaction between PACT and GSK-3β is enhanced upon viral infection. Moreover, PACT inhibited the activity of GSK-3β independent of its well-studied double-stranded RNA binding and PKR activating ability. Fe-based sulfides are a promising type of anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to their high theoretical capacities and affordability. However, these materials often suffer from issues such as capacity deterioration and poor conductivity during practical application. To address these challenges, an N-doped Fe 7 S 8 anode with an N, S co-doped porous carbon framework (PPF-800) was synthesized using a template-assisted method. When serving as an anode for SIBs, it delivers a robust and ultrafast sodium storage performance, with a discharge capacity of 489 mAh g -1 after 500 cycles at 5 A g -1 and 371 mAh g -1 after 1000 cycles at 30 A g -1 in the ether-based electrolyte. This impressive performance is attributed to the combined influence of heteroatomic doping and adjustable interface engineering. The N, S co-doped carbon framework embedded with Fe 7 S 8 nanoparticles effectively addresses the issues of volumetric expansion, reduces the impact of sodium polysulfides, improves intrinsic conductivity, and stimulates the dominant pseudocapacitive contribution (90.3% at 2 mV s -1 ). Moreover, the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) film by the effect of uniform pore structure in ether-based electrolyte produces a lower transfer resistance during the charge-discharge process, thereby boosting the rate performance of the electrode material. This work expands a facile strategy to optimize the electrochemical performance of other metal sulfides.

Understanding vegetation C, N, and P stoichiometry helps us not only to evaluate biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem functions but also to predict the potential impact of environmental change on ecosystem processes. The foliar C, N, and P stoichiometry in Northern Tibetan grasslands, especially the controlling factors, has been highlighted in recent years. In this study, we have collected 340 plant samples and 162 soil samples from 54 plots in three grassland types, with the purpose of evaluating the foliar C, N, and P stoichiometry and underlying control factors in three grassland types along a 1,500-km east-to-west transect in the Northern Tibetan Plateau. Our results indicated that the averaged foliar C, N, and P concentrations were 425.9 ± 15.8, 403.4 ± 22.2, and 420.7 ± 30.7 g kg -1 ; 21.7 ± 2.9, 19.0 ± 2.3, and 21.7 ± 5.2 g kg -1 ; and 1.71 ± 0.29, 1.19 ± 0.16, and 1.59 ± 0.6 g kg -1 in the alpine meadow (AM), alpine steppe (AS), and desert steppe (DS) ecosystems, respectively. The foliar C and N ratios were comparable, with values of 19.8 ± 2.8, 20.6 ± 1.9, and 19.9 ± 5.8 in the AM, AS, and DS ecosystems, respectively. Both the C/P and N/P ratios are the lowest in the AM ecosystem, with values of 252.2 ± 32.6 and 12.8 ± 1.3, respectively, whereas the highest values of 347.3 ± 57.0 and 16.2 ± 3.2 were obtained in the AS ecosystem. In contrast, the soil C, N, C/P, and N/P values decreased from the AM to DS ecosystem. Across the whole transects, leaf C, N, and P stoichiometry showed no obvious trend, but soil C and N concentrations showed an increasing trend, and soil P concentrations showed a decreasing trend with the increasing longitude. Based on the general linear model analysis, the vegetation type was the dominant factor controlling the leaf C, N, and P stoichiometry, accounting for 42.8% for leaf C, 45.1% for leaf N, 35.2% for leaf P, 52.9% for leaf C/N, 39.6% for leaf C/P, and 48.0% for leaf N/P; the soil nutrients and climate have relatively low importance. Hydrophobic organic contaminated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and CHNS (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulphur species) are explosively associated with road dust particles. A few organic contaminants are toxic in nature and have an unpleasant effect on human health. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the United States-Environmental Protection Agency has considered several PAHs and PCBs as carcinogens for human beings. In the proposed study, the anthropogenic contaminants present in road dust were assessed in six representative diversified sites i.e. industrial, commercial, office, residential, construction and traffic intersection in Delhi NCR, India. Roadside dust samples were gathered in premonsoon, monsoon and postmonsoon seasons and characterized for PAHs, PCBs and CHNS. The concentration of total PAHs (16 Nos) and PCBs (6 Nos) of the selected sites ranged from 0.27 µg/kg to 605.80 µg/kg and 0.01 µg/kg to 41.26 µg/kg, respectively. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy-attenuated total reflectance study suggested that the presence of O = C = O, Si-O, carbonyl, acidic or aliphatic esters group were associated with road dust particles. Hydrogen and sulphur concentrations were not detected in the selected road dust samples. Carbon and nitrogen concentrations varied from 2.24% to 16.82% and 0.69% to 14.5%, respectively, seasonally. In the premonsoon season, road dust was distinguishably contaminated as compared to monsoon and postmonsoon season, which might be due to movement of contaminated road dust from adjacent locations. It was perceived that Delhi NCR organic contamination in road dust was much below as compared to other countries. It may be concluded that due to the presence of significant amounts of carbon and nitrogen concentrations in the road dust, to a greater extent, road dust can be fertile and might be advantageous for green belt development to mitigate air pollution. The heteroatoms and transition metal co-doped carbon-based catalysts are an important way to improve the catalytic activity of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Herein, we reported a facile method to obtain iron, nitrogen, and sulfur co-doped cellulose paper carbon fibers as catalysts (Fe-N-S/CFs) for ORR in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) with the adsorption recovery of Congo red molecules from dye wastewater. The thermal treatment promoted the etching of carbon surface by ferric ions, resulting in increased surface roughness for forming the defective carbon structure. The rich active species and defective carbon formed on the etched surface to enhance the electroactive surface area and effective sites. Fe-N-S/CFs catalysts achieved high half-wave potential due to the synergy effect between chemical components and defect structures. The assembled single-chamber air cathode MFC gained a high maximum power density of 1773 ± 40 mW m -2 versus Pt/C MFC of 1325 ± 94 mW m -2 . An efficient, simple, and inexpensive N, S-co-doped hydrochar (SNHC) was synthesized from waste straw by a one-pot hydrothermal process without calcination for the removal of Cr(VI). SNHC demonstrated excellent adsorption performance for Cr(VI) and high stability, achieving a high capacity of 171.33 mg/g (293 K, pH 2) and a capacity retention of 82.73 % after five cycles. The adsorption behavior was determined as a multilayer adsorption process based on chemisorption according to the simulation the results of Freundlich adsorption isotherms and pseudo-second-order models. The characterization of SNHC revealed that graphite N and thiophene S formed by the material were the effective active sites, functioning as electron donors to contribute a significant amount of electrons to reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III). Therefore, next to electrostatic adsorption and complexation, the synergistic reduction of Cr(VI) by graphite N and thiophene S was the main mechanism for Cr(VI) removal. Additionally, density functional theory calculations indicated a low adsorption energy of thiophene S, which increased the attractive interaction between SNHC and Cr(VI) and played the most important role in reducing Cr(VI). The appearance of multi-drug resistant Escherichia coli makes the combination of tetracyclines (TCs) and quercetin (QCT) more common to fight stubborn bacterial infections so that the effective detections of TCs and QCT are essential and necessary. Here, a novel fluorescence probe for differentiating TCs and QCT is developed based on the nitrogen and copper co-doped carbon dots (N, Cu-CDs). The N, Cu-CDs are prepared from ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and anhydrous copper chloride as precursors through hydrothermal process and exhibit bright blue fluorescence with excellent optical stability. With the presence of four tetracyclines (DOX, TC, CTC and OTC), the fluorescence intensity of N, Cu-CDs is quenched directly due to the internal filtration effect (IFE), and the detection limit obtained through single-signal fluorescence sensing is as low as 23.8 nM for DOX, 37.2 nM for TC, 43.8 nM for OTC and 28.8 nM for CTC. More remarkably, three dimensional ratiometric fluorescence probe for detecting QCT is proposed based on the appearance of another emission at (410 nm, 490 nm) due to electron transform (ET) process. This new method shows a good linear relationship in the range of 10-100 μM with a low detection limit of 59.3 nM. Furthermore, a dual-channel fluorescence sensing platform based on microfluidics paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) is developed for simultaneously visual discrimination of TCs (DOX is chosen as the typical detecting model for TCs) and QCT. The timely detection of information on crop nutrition is of great significance for improving the production efficiency of facility crops. In this study, the terahertz (THz) spectral information of tomato plant leaves with different nitrogen levels was obtained. The noise reduction of the THz spectral data was then carried out by using the Savitzky-Golay (S-G) smoothing algorithm. The sample sets were then analyzed by using Kennard-Stone (KS) and random sampling (RS) methods, respectively. The KS algorithm was optimized to divide the sample sets. The stability competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (SCARS), uninformative variable elimination (UVE), and interval partial least-squares (iPLS) algorithms were then used to screen the pre-processed THz spectral data. Based on the selected characteristic frequency bands, a model for the detection of the nitrogen content of tomato based on the THz spectrum was established by the radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) and backpropagation neural network (BPNN) algorithms, respectively. The results show that the root-mean-square error of correction (RMSEC) and root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP) of the BPNN model were respectively 0.1722% and 0.1843%, and the determination coefficients of the correction set ( R c 2 ) and prediction set ( R p 2 ) were respectively 0.8447 and 0.8375. The RMSEC and RMSEP values of the RBFNN model were respectively 0.1322% and 0.1855%, and the R c 2 and R p 2 values were respectively 0.8714 and 0.8463. Thus, the accuracy of the model established by the RBFNN algorithm was slightly higher. Therefore, the nitrogen content of tomato leaves can be detected by THz spectroscopy. Objective: Serotonergic psychedelics are re-emerging as potential novel treatments for several psychiatric disorders including major depressive disorder. The Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT) convened a task force to review the evidence and provide a consensus recommendation for the clinical use of psychedelic treatments for major depressive disorder., Methods: A systematic review was conducted to identify contemporary clinical trials of serotonergic psychedelics for the treatment of major depressive disorder and cancer-related depression. Studies published between January 1990 and July 2021 were identified using combinations of search terms, inspection of bibliographies and review of other psychedelic reviews and consensus statements. The levels of evidence for efficacy were graded according to the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments criteria., Results: Only psilocybin and ayahuasca have contemporary clinical trials evaluating antidepressant effects. Two pilot studies showed preliminary positive effects of single-dose ayahuasca for treatment-resistant depression (Level 3 evidence). Small randomized controlled trials of psilocybin combined with psychotherapy showed superiority to waitlist controls and comparable efficacy and safety to an active comparator (escitalopram with supportive psychotherapy) in major depressive disorder, with additional randomized controlled trials showing efficacy specifically in cancer-related depression (Level 3 evidence). There was only one open-label trial of psilocybin in treatment-resistant unipolar depression (Level 4 evidence). Small sample sizes and functional unblinding were major limitations in all studies. Adverse events associated with psychedelics, including psychological (e.g., psychotomimetic effects) and physical (e.g., nausea, emesis and headaches) effects, were generally transient., Conclusions: There is currently only low-level evidence to support the efficacy and safety of psychedelics for major depressive disorder. In Canada, as of 2022, psilocybin remains an experimental option that is only available through clinical trials or the special access program. As such, Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments considers psilocybin an experimental treatment and recommends its use primarily within clinical trials, or, less commonly, through the special access program in rare, special circumstances.

This article first reported the green synthesis of N, S co-doped fluorescent carbon dots (N, S-CDs-Sop) and sought to establish the fluorescence detection system for amoxicillin (AMX). By using Sophorajaponica L. flower as the green precursor and dl-homocystine as the co-dopant, N, S-CDs-Sop were successfully prepared via a one-pot hydrothermal method, exhibiting good water solubility and excellent photoluminescence. It was revealed that the surface of N, S-CDs-Sop was abundant in amino, hydroxyl and carboxyl groups after being characterized by a variety of techniques. When Fe 3+ was added, Fe 3+ could be complexed with N, S-CDs-Sop to from N, S-CDs-Sop-Fe 3+ chelation leading to a significant static quenching of fluorescence. N , N -dimethylformamide is frequently present in industrial wastewater and is environmentally detrimental. The current study aims to assess the utilization and biodegradation of N , N -dimethylformamide-containing wastewater to lessen the associated environmental load. Results show that addition of wastewater containing N , N -dimethylformamide to Trichoderma reesei fermentation media enhances cellulase production and facilitates cellulose hydrolysis. However, N , N -dimethylformamide is a cellulase enhancer that is not degraded during cellulase production in T. reesei fermentation and is retained in the N , N -dimethylformamide-enhanced cellulase solution. Indeed, the cellulosic sugar solution generated via lignocellulose hydrolysis with N , N -dimethylformamide-enhanced cellulase retains N , N -dimethylformamide. We further identified three core enzyme modules─ N , N -dimethylformamidase, dimethylamine dehydrogenase, and methylamine dehydrogenase enzyme─which were inserted into Escherichia coli to develop metabolically engineered strains. These strains degraded N , N -dimethylformamide and produced succinate using N , N -dimethylformamide-enhanced cellulosic sugar as the substrate. The platform described here can be applied to effectively convert waste into valuable bioproducts.

Simultaneously engineering a bowl-like and ultrafine nano-size structure offers an attractive route to not only increase the utilization efficiency of noble metals, the specific surface areas and the availability of active sites, but also boost the structural robustness and long-term stability. However, a great challenge remains in terms of the methods of synthesis. Herein, we report a facile one-pot hydrothermal method for the preparation of hollow porous Pt nanobowls (NBs) assembled from ultrafine particles. N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBAA) acts as a structure-directing agent that forms a self-template with Pt ions and drives the nucleation and assembly of Pt metals, resulting in the fabrication of Pt NBs from ultrafine particles. By virtue of their unique structure and morphology, the optimized Pt NBs exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) activity with 3.1-fold greater mass activity and 2.6-fold greater specific activities compared with those of commercial Pt black catalysts, as well as excellent stability and anti-poisoning ability.

A transition-metal-free method for the construction of 3-substituted or 3,4-disubstituted quinolines from readily available N , N -dimethyl enaminones and o -aminobenzyl alcohols is reported. The direct oxidative cyclocondensation reaction tolerates broad functional groups, allowing the efficient synthesis of various quinolines in moderate to excellent yields. N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) is a widely existing harmful environmental pollutant from industrial emission which can threat human health for both occupational and general populations. Epidemiological and experimental studies have indicated liver as the primary target organ of DMF. However, the molecular mechanism under DMF-induced hepatoxicity remains unclear. In the present study, we identified that DMF could induce abnormal autophagy flux in cells. We also showed that DMF-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and lethal mitophagy which further leads to autophagic cell death. Next, miRNA microarray analysis identified miR-92a-1-5p as the most down-regulated miRNA upon DMF exposure. Mechanistically, miR-92a-1-5p regulated mitochondrial function and mitophagy by targeting mitochondrial protein BNIP3L. Exogenous miR-92a-1-5p significantly attenuated DMF-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and mitophagy in vitro and in vivo. In grassland ecosystems, the plant functional group (PFG) is an important bridge connecting individual plants to the community system. The grassland ecosystem is the main ecosystem type on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Altun Mountain is located in the key grassland transcontinental belt of the northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The composition and changes in the PFG in this ecosystem reflect the community characteristics in the arid and semi-arid extreme climate regions of the Plateau. The main PFGs were forbs and grasses, and the importance values (IVs) accounted for more than 50%. Plant species diversity of the community was influenced by the IV of the legumes, and the increase in legumes would promote the increase in plant community diversity. The C, N, and P contents of plant communities were mainly influenced by forbs and grasses, and the relationship between forbs and C, N, and P was opposite to that of grasses. However, under the influence of different hydrothermal conditions, forbs and grasses as dominant functional groups had a stronger correlation with community and soil nutrients. This indicates that the dominant PFGs (forbs and grasses) can dominate the C, N, and P contents of the community and soil, and legumes affect community composition and succession. COVID-19 currently is the main cause of the severe acute respiratory disease and fatal outcomes in human beings worldwide. Several genes are used as targets for the detection of SARS-CoV-2, including the RDRP, N, and E genes. The present study aimed to determine the RDRP, N, and E genes expressions of SARS-CoV- 2 in clinical samples. For this purpose, 100 SARS-CoV-2 positive samples were collected from diagnostic laboratories of Mazandaran province, Iran. After RNA extraction, the real-time reverse transcription PCR (real-time RT-PCR) assay was performed for differential gene expressions' analysis of N, E, and RDRP. The threshold cycle (Ct) values for N, RDRP, and E targets of 100 clinical samples for identifying SARS-CoV-2 were then evaluated using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). This result suggests N gene as a potential target for the detection of the SARS-CoV-2, since it was observed to be highly expressed in the nasopharyngeal or oropharynges of COVID-19 patients (P < 0.0001). Herein, we showed that SARS-CoV- 2 genes were differentially expressed in the host cells. Therefore, to reduce obtaining false negative results and to increase the sensitivity of the available diagnostic tests, the target genes should be carefully selected based on the most expressed genes in the cells., (© 2022. This paper investigates analytically the effect of dissimilarity of mass flow rate [Formula: see text] and number of collectors (N) on exergo-enviro-economic parameters for solar still of single slope type integrated with N similar photovoltaic thermal flat plate collectors having series connection (NPVTFPC-SS) keeping water depth as 0.14 m. All four kinds of weather conditions for New Delhi have been taken for the computation of different parameters. All relevant equations obtained using energy balance equations for all components of the system have been fed to a computer code inscribed in MATLAB-2015a for computing different parameters. The computation of different relevant parameters has been performed for various values of [Formula: see text] and N while keeping water depth as constant to know the effect of variation of [Formula: see text] and N on exergo-enviro-economic parameters for NPVTFPC-SS. It has been concluded that the value of carbon credit earned, enviroeconomic and exegoeconomic parameters, and productivity diminishes with the enhancement in [Formula: see text] at given N. The optimum value of N for given value of [Formula: see text] has been found to be 10 from exergoeconomic parameter viewpoint and 6 from productivity viewpoint., (© 2022. As a prevention tool for mosquito-borne diseases, mosquito repellents have received substantial attention. To make a convincing recommendation for repellent products to Chinese consumers, we compared the protection time (landing time and probing time) of the 26 best-selling commercial repellents in the Chinese market in a controlled laboratory environment. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA. Meanwhile, prices and favorable rates of repellents are also taken into consideration. In our study, N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET)-based products provided the longest protection time (0.5-3.88 h landing time and/or 1-5.63 h probing time) and lower prices (13.9-21.9 yuan) than other components (ethyl butylacetylaminopropionate (IR3535), picaridin, and botanical. Among the 26 selected products, only 17 repellents showed repellency, and the best repellent was Green Jungle (15% DEET), with a mean (±SD) landing and/or probing time of 3.88 ± 1.65 h and/or 5.63 ± 0.36 h. For botanicals, only ICE King, OMNIbaby, and Ren He showed a little repellency. Autan (20% picaridin) performed best in the picaridin group. Run Ben (7% IR3535) stood out from the IR3535 group. In conclusion, DEET repellent is highly recommended to consumers. The combination of botanicals and synthesized chemicals is a new prospect for eco-friendly repellents.

The transformation of lignin with natural aromatic structure into value-added carbon dots (CDs) achieves a win-win situation for low-cost production of novel nanomaterials and reasonable disposal of biomass waste. However, it remains challenging to produce multi-emission CDs from biomass for advanced applications. Herein, a green and facile approach to preparing multi-emission CDs from alkali lignin via N and B co-doping is developed. The obtained N and B co-doped CDs (NB-CDs) show multi-emission fluorescence centers at 346, 428 and 514 nm under different excitations. As the doping amount of N and B increases, the fluorescence emission band gradually shifts to 428 and 514 nm, while that at 346 nm decreases. The fluorescence mechanism is explored through the research of the structure, composition and optical performance of NB-CDs in combination with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. It demonstrates that the effect of doping with B-containing functional groups on the fluorescence emission behavior is multivariate, which may be the crucial contribution to the unique multi-emission fluorescence of CDs. The multi-emission NB-CDs with prominent stability are applied for multilevel anti-counterfeiting printing. It provides a promising direction for the sustainable and advanced application of biomass-derived CDs, and the theoretical results highlight a new insight into the deep understanding of the multi-emission fluorescence mechanism.

Carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus are critical macroelements in freshwater systems. Historically, researchers and managers have focused on inorganic forms, based on the premise that the organic pool was not available for direct uptake by phytoplankton. We now know that phytoplankton can tap the organic nutrient pool through a number of mechanisms including direct uptake, enzymatic hydrolysis, mixotrophy, and through symbiotic relationships with microbial communities. In this review, we explore these mechanisms considering current and projected future anthropogenically-driven changes to freshwater systems. In particular, we focus on how naturally- and anthropogenically- derived organic nutrients can influence phytoplankton community structure. We also synthesize knowledge gaps regarding phytoplankton physiology and the potential challenges of nutrient management in an organically dynamic and anthropogenically modified world. Our review provides a basis for exploring these topics and suggests several avenues for future work on the relation between organic nutrients and eutrophication and their ecological implications in freshwater systems., (Copyright © 2022. Radiolabeled phosphonates have found widespread applications in nuclear medicine for the treatment of bone metastases. Even though considerable attention has been devoted to the administration of radiolabeled phosphonates to the patients, quality control (QC) studies belong to detection of them are still speculative and need to be improved. Herein, practical, efficient, and more reliable high-performance liquid chromatograpy (HPLC) methods were described for the first time. Radiochemical purity was easily determined by our developed analytical methods. N,N-Dimethylhexylamine and N,N-dimethyltetradecylamine were furnished as suitable ion pair reagents for the identification of radiopharmaceutical products. Herein, we designed and fabricated a biodegradable composite sponge which main component contained N, O-carboxymethyl chitosan (N,O-CS) and oxidized cellulose nanocrystals (TOCN) as a potential wound dressing for the prevention and treatment of postoperative adhesion. In order to improve antimicrobial properties of N,O-CS/TOCN composite sponges, natural antimicrobial agents (ε-Poly-l-Lysine，EPL) were successfully introduced and the EPL/N,O-CS/TOCN composite sponge exhibited excellent antibacterial properties and biological security. The EPL/N,O-CS/TOCN composite sponge can be degraded in vivo within 3 weeks. Finally, we analyzed the anti-adhesion performance of EPL/N,O-CS/TOCN composite sponge through a rat model of sidewall defect-cecum abrasion. These results demonstrated that EPL/N,O-CS/TOCN-treated group can effectively reduce the peritoneal adhesion formation than the commercial soluble gauze group and normal saline group, which mainly attribute to the excellent hemostatic function and tissue repair function of EPL/N,O-CS/TOCN composite sponge. It is believed that the EPL/N,O-CS/TOCN composite sponge will prove to be as a new medical device treat the internal tissue/organ repair and simultaneous prevention of postoperative adhesion., (Copyright © 2022. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a global public health problem despite the availability of effective vaccine and antiviral therapy. Cytomegalovirus (CMV), another hepatotropic virus, is also very prevalent in the general population worldwide. Both HBV and CMV can persist in the host and have potential to reactivate especially with weakened host cellular immunity. Superimposed CMV infection can lead to severe HBV reactivation. The pathogenesis of the co-infection of HBV and CMV remains poorly understood. Studies reported conflicting results regarding the inhibitory effect of CMV on HBV replication. There is an unmet need on the management of co-infection of HBV and CMV; research initiatives dedicated to understanding their interactions are urgently needed., (© The Author(s) 2022. Projecting a cost-effective and highly efficient electrocatalyst for the oxygen reaction reduction (ORR) counts a great deal for Zn-air batteries. Herein, a hierarchical core-shell ORR catalyst (Co 2 N/CoP@PNCNTs) is developed by embedding cobalt phosphides and/or cobalt nitrides as the core into N, P-doped carbon nanotubes (PNCNTs) as the shell via one-step carbonization, nitridation, and phosphorization of pyrolyzing Co-MOF precursor. The globally N, P-doped structure of Co 2 N/CoP@PNCNTs demonstrates an outstanding electrocatalytic activity in the alkaline solution with the onset and half-wave potentials of 1.07 and 0.85 V respectively. Moreover, a Zn-air battery assembled from Co 2 N/CoP@PNCNTs as the air cathode delivers an open circuit potential of 1.49 V, a maximum power density of 151.1 mW cm -2 and a specific capacity of 823.8 mAh kg -1 . It is reflected that Co 2 N/CoP@PNCNTs provides a long-term durability with a slight decline of 15 h in the chronoamperometry measurement and an excellent charge-discharge stability with negligible voltage decay for 150 h at 10 mA cm -2 in Zn-air batteries. The results reveal that Co 2 N/CoP@PNCNTs has superiority over most Co-N x -C or Co x P@C catalysts reported so far. We fabricated a novel N,S-co-doped carbon/Co 1-x S nanocomposite (NSC/Co 1-x S) using a facile sol-gel approach, which featured a multiporous structure, abundant S vacancies and Co-S nanoparticles filling the carbon-layer pores. When the Co 1-x S nanoparticles were anchored onto the surface of N,S-co-doped carbon, a synergistic catalysis action occurred. The NSC/Co 1-x S nanocomposites possessed both peroxidase-like and oxidase-mimetic dual-enzyme activities, in which the oxidase-mimetic activity dominated. By scavenger capture tests, the nanozyme was demonstrated to catalyze H 2 O 2 to produce h + , •OH and •O 2 - , among which the strongest and weakest signals were h + and •OH, respectively. The multi-valence states of Co atoms in the NSC/Co 1-x S structure facilitated electronic transfer that enhanced redox reactions, thereby improving the resultant color reaction. Based on the NSC/Co 1-x S's enzyme-mimetic catalytic reaction, a visual colorimetric assay and Android "Thing Identify" application (app), installed on a smartphone, offered detection limits of 1.93 and 2.51 mg/dl, respectively, in human serum samples. The selectivity/interference experiments, using fortified macromolecules and metal ions, demonstrated that this sensor had high selectivity and low interference potential for cholesterol analysis. Compared to standard assay kits and previously reported visual detection, the Android smartphone-based assays provided higher accuracy (recoveries up to 93.6-104.1%), feasibility for trace-level detection, and more convenient on-site application for cholesterol assay due to the superior enzymatic activity of NSC/Co 1-x S. Though several Pt-free hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts have been reported, their employment for industry is challenging. Here, a facile pyrolysis method to obtain phase-pure CrP nanoparticles supported on N, P dual-doped carbon (CrP/NPC) is reported to be tuned toward industrial HER. Interestingly, CrP/NPC exhibits excellent HER activity that requires an overpotential of 34 mV to attain a current density of 10 mA cm -2 , which is only 1 mV positive to commercial Pt/C and a potential of 55 mV to achieve a current density of 200 mA cm -2 which is better than Pt/C. In addition, the long-term durability of CrP/NPC is far superior to Pt/C due to the strong interaction between CrP and C support, restricting any agglomeration or leaching. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that electronic modulation at the interface (CrP/NPC) optimizes the hydrogen adsorption energy. The Cr-Cr bridge site with required density of states near the Fermi level is found to be the active site. Overall, this report provides a practical scheme to synthesize rarely investigated CrP based materials along with a computational mechanistic guideline for electrocatalysis that can be utilized to explore other phosphides for various applications., (© 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Two-dimensional (2D) MXenes have been developed to stabilize single atoms via various methods, such as vacancy reduction and heteroatom-mediated interactions. However, anchoring single atoms on 3D porous MXenes to further increase catalytic active sites and thus construct electrocatalysts with high activity and stability remains unexplored. Here, we reported a general synthetic strategy for engineering single-metal sites on 3D porous N, P codoped Ti 3 C 2 T X nanosheets. Through a "gelation-and-pyrolysis" process, a series of atomically dispersed metal catalysts (Pt, Ir, Ru, Pd, and Au) supported by N, P codoped Ti 3 C 2 T X nanosheets with 3D porous structure can be obtained and serve as efficient catalysts for the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). As a result of the favorable electronic and geometric structure of N(O), P-coordinated metal atoms optimizing catalytic intermediates adsorption and 3D porous structure exposing the active surface sites and facilitating charge/mass transfer, the as-synthesized Pt SA-PNPM catalyst shows ∼20-fold higher activity than the commercial Pt/C catalyst for electrochemical HER over a wide pH range.

Sago palm ( Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) grows in well-drained mineral soil and in peatland with high groundwater levels until complete submersion. However, the published information on nutrient uptake and carbohydrate content in sago palms growing under waterlogging remains unreported. This experiment observed sago palm growth performance under normal soil conditions (non-submerged conditions) as a control plot and extended waterlogged conditions. Several parameters were analyzed: Plant morphological growth traits, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and sugar concentration in the plant organ, including sucrose, glucose, starch, and non-structural carbohydrate. The analysis found that sago palm morphological growth traits were not significantly affected by extended waterlogging. However, waterlogging reduced carbohydrate levels in the upper part of the sago palm, especially the petiole, and increased sugar levels, especially glucose, in roots. Waterlogging also reduced N concentration in roots and leaflets and P in petioles. The K level was independent of waterlogging as the sago palm maintained a sufficient level in all of the plant organs. Long duration waterlogging may reduce the plant's economic value as the starch level in the trunk decreases, although sago palm can grow while waterlogged.

Searching for Pt-like activity, stable and economic electrocatalysts that can function at various pH values for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is under increasing interest for the scientific community as H 2 is a very promising energy carrier with great potential development value for renewable energy conversion. Herein, a unique self-supported heterostructure of RuO 2 -RuP 2 /Ru on the N, P co-doped carbon matrix (Ru-HMT-MP-7) is demonstrated, which is derived from HMT-based coordination polymers as superior pH-universal electrocatalysts. In the strategy, pyrolysis and phosphating processes are simultaneously proceeded that can produce the unique heterostructure containing three phases of RuO 2 , RuP 2, and Ru, at the same time the generated RuO 2 -RuP 2 /Ru can be highly dispersed on the self-assembly N, P co-doped carbon substrates. The resulting heterostructure Ru-HMT-MP-7 exhibits excellent activity superior to that of benchmark Pt/C with low overpotentials at 10 mA cm -2 (33 mV for 1.0 M KOH, 29 mV for 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 and 86 mV for 1.0 M PBS) and long-term electrocatalysis durability toward HER at various pH values.
