We developed a simple, paper-based device that enables sensitive detection by mass spectrometry (MS) without solid phase extraction or other sample preparation.  Using glass fiber filter papers within a 3D printed holder, the device employs electrokinetic manipulations to stack, separate, and desalt charged molecules on paper prior to spray into the MS. Due to counter-balanced electroosmotic flow and electrophoresis, charged analytes stack on the paper and desalting occurs in minutes.  One end of the paper strip was cut into a sharp point and positioned near the inlet of a MS.  The stacked analyte bands move toward the paper tip with the EOF where they are ionized by paper spray.  The device was applied to analysis of PFAS in tap water with sub part-per-trillion detection limits in less than ten minutes with no sample pretreatment. Analysis of opioids in urine also occurs in minutes. The crucial parameters to enable stacking, separation, and MS ionization of both positively and negatively charged analytes were determined and optimized. Experimental and computational modeling studies confirm the electrokinetic stacking and analyte transport mechanisms. How do people adapt to others in adversarial settings? Prior work has shown that people often violate rational models of adversarial decision-making in repeated interactions. In particular, in mixed strategy equilibrium (MSE) games, where optimal action selection entails choosing moves randomly, people often do not play randomly, but instead try to outwit their opponents. However, little is known about the adaptive reasoning that underlies these deviations from random behavior. Here, we examine strategic decision-making across repeated rounds of rock, paper, scissors, a well-known MSE game. In experiment 1, participants were paired with bot opponents that exhibited distinct stable move patterns, allowing us to identify the bounds of the complexity of opponent behavior that people can detect and adapt to. In experiment 2, bot opponents instead exploited stable patterns in the human participants' moves, providing a symmetrical bound on the complexity of patterns people can revise in their own behavior. Across both experiments, people exhibited a robust and flexible attention to transition patterns from one move to the next, exploiting these patterns in opponents and modifying them strategically in their own moves. However, their adaptive reasoning showed strong limitations with respect to more sophisticated patterns. Background: Nitrite has been involved in many food processing techniques and its excessive consumption is closely related to the development of different diseases. Therefore, highly sensitive detection of nitrite is significant to ensure food safety., Result: This study presents a simple and novel strategy for the highly sensitive detection of nitrite in food using paper-based analytical devices (PADs). In this proposed strategy, the nitrite present in the sample undergoes efficient diazotization when initially mixed with sulfanilamide solution before reacting with N-(1-naphthyl) ethylenediamine dihydrochloride (NED) coated on the detection region of the PAD, leading to the maximum production of colored azo compounds. Specifically, within the concentration range of 0.1-20 mg/L, the LOD and LOQ for the nitrite assay using the premixing strategy are determined as 0.053 mg/L and 0.18 mg/L, respectively which significantly surpass the corresponding values of 0.18 mg/L (LOD) and 0.61 mg/L (LOQ) achieved with the regular Griess reagent analysis., Significance: The study highlights the critical importance of the premixing strategy in nitrite detection. Under optimized conditions, the strategy demonstrates an excellent limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) for nitrite detection in eight different meat samples. A colorimetric sensing method based on a paper-based vapor-test kit was successfully developed for the selective and sensitive real-time monitoring of formalin in food samples. The device was specifically designed to efficiently extract and detect formalin simultaneously. A microcentrifuge tube was used as the sample solution container, with the inner cap serving as the reaction and detection zone. Formalin was converted into gaseous formaldehyde through controlled heating, which was then extracted and collected on a filter paper coated with Nash's reagent. The color change on paper was used for formalin quantification using a smartphone for detection and image analysis. Under optimal conditions, our method provided a linear range of 0.5-75 mg L -1 with a detection limit of 0.11 mg L -1 . Paper is an ideal substrate for the development of flexible and environmentally sustainable ubiquitous electronic systems. When combined with nanomaterial-based devices, it can be harnessed for various Internet-of-Things applications, ranging from wearable electronics to smart packaging. However, paper remains a challenging substrate for electronics due to its rough and porous nature. In addition, the absence of established fabrication methods is impeding its utilization in wearable applications. Unlike other paper-based electronics with added layers, in this study, we present a scalable spray-lithography on a commercial paper substrate. We present a non-vacuum spray-lithography of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) single-layer graphene (SLG), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and perovskite quantum dots (QDs) on a paper substrate. This approach combines the advantages of two large-area techniques: CVD and spray-coating. The first technique allows for the growth of SLG, while the second enables the spray coating of a mask to pattern CVD SLG, electrodes (CNTs), and photoactive (QDs) layers. We harnessed the advantages of perovskite QDs in photodetection, leveraging their strong absorption coefficients. Integrating them with the graphene enhanced the photoconductive gain mechanism, leading to high external responsivity. The presented device shows high external responsivity of ~520A/W at 405nm at <1V bias due to photoconductive gain mechanism. The prepared paper-based photodetectors (PDs) achieved an external responsivity of 520 A/W under 405 nm illumination at <1V operating voltage. To the best of our knowledge, our devices have the highest external responsivity amongst paper-based PDs. The highly contagious nature and 100% fatality rate contribute to the ongoing and expanding impact of the African swine fever virus (ASFV), causing significant economic losses worldwide. Herein, we developed a cascaded colorimetric detection using the combination of a CRISPR/Cas14a system, G-quadruplex DNAzyme, and microfluidic paper-based analytical device. This CRISPR/Cas14a-G4 biosensor could detect ASFV as low as 5 copies/μL and differentiate the wild-type and mutated ASFV DNA with 2-nt difference. Moreover, this approach was employed to detect ASFV in porcine plasma. A broad linear detection range was observed, and the limit of detection in spiked porcine plasma was calculated to be as low as 42-85 copies/μL. Our results indicate that the developed paper platform exhibits the advantages of high sensitivity, excellent specificity, and low cost, making it promising for clinical applications in the field of DNA disease detection and suitable for popularization in low-resourced areas.

Many research groups explore the regulation of hibernation or compare the physiology of heterothermic mammals between the torpid and aroused, euthermic states. Current methods for monitoring torpor (for example, infrared cameras, body temperature or heart-rate telemetry, and motion sensing) are costly, require specialized techniques, and can be invasive. Here we present an alternate method for determining torpor-bout duration that is cost-effective, noninvasive and accurate: paper towel shredding. In the winter, euthermic thirteen-lined ground squirrels will shred paper towels placed in the cage, but torpid animals will not. The presence of a shredded paper towel, indicating an arousal from torpor, is easily evaluated during routine daily monitoring. In 12 animals over 52 days, this simple technique detected 59 arousals with 100% accuracy when compared with the body temperature telemetry of the same animals. Flexible photodetectors (PDs) have exotic significance in recent years due to their enchanting potential in future optoelectronics. Moreover, paper-based fabricated PDs with outstanding flexibility unlock new avenues for future wearable electronics. Such PD has captured scientific interest for its efficient photoresponse properties due to the extraordinary assets like significant absorptive efficiency, surface morphology, material composition, affordability, bendability, and biodegradability. Quantum-confined materials harness the unique quantum-enhanced properties and hold immense promise for advancing both fundamental scientific understanding and practical implication. Two-dimensional (2D) materials as quantum materials have been one of the most extensively researched materials owing to their significant light absorption efficiency, increased carrier mobility, and tunable band gaps. In addition, 2D heterostructures can trap charge carriers at their interfaces, leading increase in photocurrent and photoconductivity. This review represents comprehensive discussion on recent developments in such PDs functionalized by 2D materials, highlighting charge transfer mechanism at their interface. This review thoroughly explains the mechanism behind the enhanced performance of quantum materials across a spectrum of figure of merits including external quantum efficiency, detectivity, spectral responsivity, optical gain, response time, and noise equivalent power. The present review studies the intricate mechanisms that reinforce these improvements, shedding light on the intricacies of quantum materials and their significant capabilities. Tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) is the most commonly used silicon-based reinforcement agent for conserving art relics due to its cost-effectiveness and commercial maturity. However, the resulting silica gel phase is prone to developing cracks as the gel shrinks during the sol-gel process, potentially causing severe damage to the objects being treated. In this study, dodecyltrimethoxysilane (DTMS) was introduced into TEOS to minimize this shrinkage by adding elastic long chains to weaken the capillary forces. The gel formed from the DTMS/TEOS hybrid material was transparent and crack-free, featuring a dense microstructure without mesopores or micropores. It exhibited excellent thermal stability, with a glass transition temperature of up to 109.64 °C. Evaluation experiments were conducted on artificially aged, handmade bamboo paper. The TEOS-based hybrid material effectively combined with the paper fibers through the sol-gel process, polymerizing into a network structure that enveloped the paper surface or penetrated between the fibers. The surface of the treated paper displayed excellent hydrophobic properties, with no significant changes in appearance, color, or air permeability. The mechanical properties of the treated bamboo paper improved significantly, with longitudinal and transverse tensile strengths increasing by up to 36.63% and 44.25%, respectively. These research findings demonstrate the promising potential for the application of DTMS/TEOS hybrid materials in reinforcing paper relics.

We report the development and initial validation of a paper-based nucleic acid testing platform that integrates Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) with clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) technology, referred to as PLACID (Paper-based LAMP-CRISPR Integrated Diagnostics). LAMP eliminates the need for thermal cycling, resulting in simplified instrumentation, and the CRISPR-associated protein (Cas 12a) system eliminates false positive signals from LAMP products, resulting in highly selective and sensitive assays. We optimized the assay to perform both amplification and detection entirely on paper, eliminating the need for complex fluid handling steps and lateral flow assay transfers. Additionally, we engineered a smartphone-operated system that includes a low-powered, non-contact IR heating chamber to actuate paper-based LAMP and CRISPR reactions and enable the detection of fluorescent signals from the paper. The platform demonstrates high specificity and sensitivity in detecting nucleic acid targets with a limit of detection of 50 copies/μL. We integrate an equipment-free sample preparation separation technology designed to streamline the preparation of crude samples prior to nucleic acid testing. The practical utility of our platform is demonstrated by the successful detection of spiked SARS-CoV-2 RNA fragments in saliva, E. Coli in soil, and pathogenic E. Coli in clinically fecal samples of infected patients. Recent advances in paper-based microsupercapacitors (p-MSCs) have attracted significant attention due to their potential as substrates for flexible electronics. This review summarizes progress in the field of p-MSCs, discussing their challenges and prospects. It covers various aspects, including the fundamental characteristics of paper, the modification of paper with functional materials, and different methods for device fabrication. The review critically analyzes recent advancements, materials, and fabrication techniques for p-MSCs, exploring their potential applications and benefits, such as flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. Additionally, this review highlights gaps in current research, guiding future investigations and innovations in the field. It provides an overview of the current state of p-MSCs and offers valuable insights for researchers and professionals in the field. The critical analysis and discussion presented herein offer a roadmap for the future development of p-MSCs and their potential impact on the domain of flexible electronics.

The massive use of paper has resulted in significant negative impacts on the environment. Fortunately, recent progress has been made in the field of rewritable paper, which has great potential in solving the increasing demand for paper while minimizing its environmental footprint. In this work, we report a green and economic strategy to develop ink-free rewritable paper by introducing hydrochromic covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in paper and using water as the sole trigger. When exposed to water or acidic solvents, two kinds of imino COFs change their colors reversibly from red to black. Additionally, a new visible absorption band appears, indicating that it can be transformed into another structure reversibly. This reversibility may be due to the isomerization from the diiminol to an iminol/cisketoenamine and its inability to doubly tautomerize to a diketoenamine. Specifically, we prepared the rewritable paper by loading these two COFs onto filter paper by using the decompression filtration method. When exposed to water, the paper undergoes a color change from red to black, which shows promising potential for applications in water-jet printing. Additionally, there is no significant performance degradation after 20 uses and 10 days between, further highlighting their potential as rewritable papers. To further improve its uniformity, we take the interface polymerization strategy to yield highly crystalline and more compact membranes, which are then transferred to paper to prepare writable papers. Our research has opened up a way for the application of COFs as a water-based printing material.

The colored and high-saline effluents during the traditional dyeing process poses serious environmental challenge. In our study, an eco-friendly cationic cellulose nano-fiber/chitosan (CCNF/CS) binary versatile auxiliary was designed for the neutral salt-free dyeing and physical enhancement of paper by mixing with pulp simply. Profiting from the rich cationic binding sites of CCNF/CS (Charge density: 3749.67 μmol/g), under near neutral conditions (pH = 6.2), the maximum adsorption capacity of anionic GL (Direct fast turquoise blue GL) on paper with 0.5 % CCNF/CS reached 1865.06 mg/g with a desirable evenness (45.5 % and 92.1 % higher than that of CCNF and NaCl group, respectively), and the dye uptake was up to 97 %. The spontaneous adsorption behavior was aligned with the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models, with a primary physical mechanism enhanced by chemical forces. The combination of strong electronic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and n-π stacking effects granted CCNF/CS an enhanced proficiency in anionic dye adsorption. In addition, the tensile strength of the resulting paper yarn with 0.5 % CCNF/CS increased to 52.47 MPa under the optimal parameters, deriving from the CCNF/CS-induced inter-fiber cohesion. Paper-based analytical devices (PADs) integrated with smartphones have shown great potential in various fields, but they also face challenges such as single signal reading, complex data processing and significant environmental impacting. In this study, a colorimetric PAD platform has been proposed using bimetallic nickel-cobalt selenides as highly active peroxidase mimic, smartphone with 3D-printing dark-cavity as a portable detector and an artificial neural network (ANN) model as multi-signal processing tool. Notably, the optimized nickel-cobalt selenides (Ni 0.75 Co 0.25 Se with Ni to Co ratio of 3/1) exhibit excellent peoxidase-mimetic activities and are capable of catalyzing the oxidation of four chromogenic reagents in the presence of H 2 O 2 . Using a smartphone with image capture function as a friendly signal readout tool, the Ni 0.75 Co 0.25 Se based four channel colorimetric sensing paper is used for multi-signal quantitative analysis of H 2 O 2 by determining the Grey, red (R), green (G) and blue (B) channel values of the captured pictures. An intelligent on-site detection method for H 2 O 2 has been constructed by combining an ANN model and a self-programmed easy-to-use smartphone APP with a dynamic range of 5 μM to 2 M. Solar energy-driven water evaporation technology is a promising, low-cost and sustainable approach to alleviate the global clean water shortage, but usually suffers from low water evaporation rate and severe salt deposition on the water evaporation surface. In this work, a hydrophilic bilayer photothermal paper-based three-dimensional (3D) cone flowing evaporator was designed and prepared for stable high-performance seawater desalination with excellent salt-rejecting ability. The as-prepared bilayer photothermal paper consisted of MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) and HAA (ultralong hydroxyapatite nanowires, poly(acrylic acid), and poly(acrylic acid-2-hydroxyethyl ester)). The accordion-like multilayered MXene acted as the efficient solar light absorber, and ultralong hydroxyapatite (HAP) nanowires served as the thermally insulating and supporting skeleton with a porous networked structure. A siphon effect-driven unidirectional fluid transportation unit in the 3D cone flowing evaporator could guide the concentrated saline flowing away from the evaporating surface to prevent salt deposition on the evaporation surface, avoiding severe deterioration of the performance in solar water evaporation. Furthermore, combining high solar light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies, low water evaporation enthalpy (1838 ± 11 J g -1 ), and additional energy taken from the ambient environment, the as-prepared cone flowing evaporator exhibited a high water evaporation rate of 3.22 ± 0.20 kg m -2 h -1 for real seawater under one sun illumination (1 kW m -2 ), which was significantly higher than many values reported in the literature. To eliminate the negative effect of soil contamination with heavy metals on plant growth and crop yield, different methods and techniques are the subject of discussion and study. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of secondary pulp and paper-mill sludge application to soil on the response of the main physiological processes such as the growth, photosynthesis, and respiration of lettuce ( Lactuca sativa L.) plants to soil contamination with Pb. For the pot experiment, Pb was added to sandy loam soil at concentrations of 0, 50, and 250 mg Pb(NO 3 ) 2 per kg of the soil, and secondary sludge was added to a 0, 20, or 40% sludge solution during each plant watering. The Pb-mediated change in plant biomass allocation, decrease in the photosynthetic rate, increase in leaf respiration rate, and the degree of light inhibition of respiration were closely associated with increases in both root and shoot Pb content. For the Pb-free soil condition, secondary sludge application contributed to the allocation of plant biomass towards a greater accumulation in the shoots than in the roots. Although stomatal opening was not affected by either Pb or sludge, sludge application increased photosynthetic CO 2 assimilation regardless of soil Pb content, which was associated with an increase in the electron-transport rate and carboxylase activity of Rubisco. Soil contamination with Pb significantly increased the ratio of respiration to photosynthesis, reflecting a shift in the carbon balance toward carbon losses in the leaves, but sludge application modified the coupling between the processes with a decrease in the proportion of respiratory carbon losses. The sludge-mediated recovery of the physiological processes of L. sativa reflected an increase in plant tolerance to soil contamination with heavy metals, the formation of which is associated with plant and soil adjustments initiated by secondary sludge application.

Timely and rapid detection of antibiotic residues in the environment is conducive to safeguarding human health and promoting an ecological virtuous cycle. A foldable paper-based photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor was successfully developed for the detection of ampicillin (AMP) based on glutathione/zirconium dioxide hollow nanorods/aptamer (GSH@ZrO 2 HS@apt) modified cellulose paper as a reactive zone with laser direct-writing lead sulfide/cadmium sulfide/graphene (PbS/CdS/LIG) as photoelectrode and cobalt hydroxide (CoOOH) as a photoresist material. Initially, AMP was introduced into the paper-based reaction zone as a biogate aptamer, which specifically recognized the target and then left the ZrO 2 HS surface, releasing glutathione (GSH) encapsulated inside. Subsequently, the introduction of GSH into the reaction region and etching of CoOOH nanosheets to expose the PbS/CdS/LIG photosensitive material increased photocurrent. Under optimal conditions, the paper-based PEC biosensor showed a linear response to AMP in the range of 5.0 - 2 × 10 4 pM with a detection limit of 1.36 pM (S/N = 3). In the present study, an environmentally friendly oil- and water-resistant paper was developed using a holo-lignocellulosic nanofibril (LCNF)-based composite coating. The LCNF was prepared from wheat straw using a biomechanical method. Characterizations of oil- and water-resistant coated paper and the effect of LCNF content on the performance of the coated paper were confirmed by combining contact angle analysis, Cobb 300s, and mechanical performance tests. The results show that the barrier performance and mechanical strength of the coated paper were greatly improved with the increase of LCNF content. The contact angle of oil and water of coated paper containing 50% LCNF were 69° and 78°, respectively, while the contact angle of oil and water of the base paper were only 30° and 20°, respectively. Cobb 300s values reduced from 110 g/m 2 to 30 g/m 2 when the LCNF content increased from 50% to 90%. Moreover, under the coating amount of 20 g/m 2 , the tensile strength of the coating paper was 0.980 KN/m, an increase of 10.11% compared with the base paper. The bursting strength reached 701.930 KPa, which was 10.75% higher than the base paper. In short, it is feasible to prepare LCNF from wheat straw, and apply it to produce water-proof and oil-proof paper. The water-proof and oil-proof paper developed in this study not only offers a novel approach to addressing white pollution but also presents a new research avenue for exploring the potential applications of agricultural waste.

Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is a notifiable viral disease caused by Lumpy Skin Disease virus (LSDV). It is usually associated with high economic losses, including a loss of productivity, infertility, and death. LSDV shares genetic and antigenic similarities with Sheep pox virus (SPV) and Goat pox (GPV) virus. Hence, the LSDV traditional diagnostic tools faced many limitations regarding sensitivity, specificity, and cross-reactivity. Herein, we fabricated a paper-based turn-on fluorescent Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) sensor for the rapid detection of LSDV. The LSDV-MIPs sensor showed strong fluorescent intensity signal enhancement in response to the presence of the virus within minutes. Our sensor showed a limit of detection of 10 1 log 10 TCID50/mL. Moreover, it showed significantly higher specificity to LSDV relative to other viruses, especially SPV. To our knowledge, this is the first record of a paper-based rapid detection test for LSDV depending on fluorescent turn-on behavior.

Background: Developing disposable paper-based devices has positively impacted analytical science, particularly in developing countries. Some benefits of those devices include their versatility, affordability, environmentally friendly, and the possibility of being integrated with portable electrochemical or colorimetric detectors. Paper-based analytical devices (PADs) comprising circular zones and microfluidic networks have been successfully employed in the analytical chemistry reign. However, the combination of the stencil-printing method and alternative binder has not been satisfactorily explored for fabricating colorimetric paper devices., Results: We developed PADs exploring the stencil printing approach and glass varnish as the hydrophobic chemical agent. As a proof-of-concept, the colorimetric assay of salivary α-amylase (sAA) was performed in saliva samples. Through the scanning electron microscopy measurements, it was possible to indicate satisfactory definitions between native fibers and barrier, and that the measured values for the channel width revealed suitable fidelity (R 2  = 0.99) with the nominal widths (ranging from 400 to 5000 μm). The proposed hydrophobic barrier exhibited excellent chemical resistance. The analytical applicability for detecting sAA revealed linear behavior in the range from 2 to 12 U mL -1  (R 2  = 0.99), limit of detection of 0.75 U mL -1 , reproducibility (RSD ≤2.4%), recovery experiments ranged from 89 to 108% and AGREE response (0.86). Fluorescent sensors with single reading are generally subject to unpredictable disturbs from environmental and artificial factors. In order to overcome this barrier of detection reliability, a paper-based optical sensor with proportional fluorescence was established and further combined with a smartphone for visual, on-site and quantitative detection of Fe 3+ , which affects the color, smell and taste of water, and endangers the health of plants and animals. The ratio fluorescent probe was fabricated by rhodamine B and carbon quantum dots derived from xylan. The red fluorescence of rhodamine B was inert to Fe 3+ , which was referred to as background. And blue emitting carbon quantum dots functioned as signal report units, which would be quenched by Fe 3+ and make the fluorescence of the ratio probe change from purple to red. The quantitative detection of Fe 3+ was conducted by investigating the RGB value of fluorescent images with a smartphone. With the increase of Fe 3+ concentration, the R/B (red/blue) value of the fluorescent paper gradually increased. The linear detection range was 10-180 μM, and the limit of detection was 198.2 nM. The application of ratio fluorescent paper with a smartphone provides a facile method for the rapid detection of ions.

Polyethylene-, polyvinylidene chloride-, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance-coated paper generate microplastics or fluorochemicals in the environment. Here, we report an approach for the development of oil-resistant papers using an environmentally friendly, fluorine-free, water-dispersible poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) coating on kraft paper. Carboxylic-functionalized PDMS (PDMS-COOH) was synthesized and subsequently neutralized with ammonium bicarbonate to obtain a waterborne emulsion, which was then coated onto kraft paper. The water resistance of the coated paper was determined via Cobb60 measurements. The Cobb60 value was reduced to 2.70 ± 0.14 g/m 2 as compared to 87.6 ± 5.1 g/m 2 for uncoated paper, suggesting a remarkable improvement in water resistance. Similarly, oil resistance was found to be 12/12 on the kit test scale versus 0/12 for uncoated paper. In addition, the coated paper retained 70-90% of its inherent mechanical properties, and more importantly, the coated paper was recycled via pulp recovery using a standard protocol with a 91.1% yield.

Conventional techniques for sharing paper documents in teleconferencing tend to introduce two inconsistencies: 1) media inconsistency: a paper document is converted into a digital image on the remote site; 2) space inconsistency: a workspace deliberately inverts the partner's handwriting to make a document easy to read. In this paper, we present a novel system that eliminates these inconsistencies. The media and space inconsistencies are resolved by reproducing a real paper document on a remote site and allowing a user to handover the paper document to a remote partner across a videoconferencing display. From a series of experiments, we found that reproducing a real paper document contributes to a higher sense of information sharing. We also found that handing over a document enhances a sense of space sharing, regardless of whether the document is digital or paper-based. Cu 2+ contamination and food spoilage raise food and drinking water safety issues, posing a serious threat to human health. Besides, Cu 2+ and H 2 S levels indicate excess Cu 2+ -caused diseases and protein-containing food spoilage. Herein, a coumarin-containing bifunctional paper-based fluorescent platform integrated with a straightforward smartphone color recognition app is developed by an all-in-one strategy. The proposed fluorescent materials can simultaneously detect Cu 2+ and H 2 S for on-demand food and drinking water safety monitoring at home. Specifically, a coumarin-derived fluorescence sensor (referred to as CMIA) with a low detection limit (0.430 μM) and high-selectivity/-sensitivity for Cu 2+ is synthesized through a simple one-step route and then loaded onto commercially used cellulose fiber filter paper to engineer a biomass-based fluorescent material (CMIA-FP). The CMIA-FP offers user-friendly, high-precision, fast-responsive, and real-time visual monitoring of Cu 2+ . Moreover, CMIA forms a chemically stable complex with Cu 2+ , loaded onto filter paper to prepare another biomass-based fluorescent platform (CMIA-CU-FP) for visual real-time monitoring of H 2 S. This paper presents the development and optimization of a cost-effective paper electrochemical sensor for the detection of TNT using Fe 3 O 4 -Au core-shell nanoparticles modified with cysteamine (Fe 3 O 4 @Au/CA). The sensor was constructed by modifying a graphite paste with the aforementioned nanoparticles, which facilitated the formation of a Meisenheimer complex between cysteamine and TNT as an electron donor and an electron acceptor, respectively. The central composite design was employed to optimize four key parameters pH, modifier percentage, contact time, and buffer type to enhance the performance of the sensor. The detection limit was found to be 0.5 nM of TNT, while the linear range of the electrode response spanned from 0.002 μM to 10 μM. Biomass can be used as an energy source to thermochemical conversion processes to biocrude production. However, the supply and dependence on only one biomass for biocrude production can be an obstacle due to its seasonality, availability, and logistics costs. In this way, biomass waste and agroindustrial residues can be mixture and used as feedstock to the hydrothermal co-liquefaction (co-HTL) process as an alternative to obtaining biocrude. In this sense, the present paper analyzed the biocrude yield influence of the co-HTL from a quaternary unprecedented blend of different biomasses, such as sugarcane bagasse, brewer's spent grain (BSG), sludge from a paper recycling mill (PRM), and microalgae (Chlorella vulgaris). In this way, a simplex lattice design was employed and co-HTL experiments were carried out in a 2000 mL high-pressure stirred autoclave reactor under 275 °C for 60 min, considering 15% of feedstock/water ratio. Significant effects in each feedstock and their blends were analyzed aiming to increase biocrude and biochar yield. Novel psychoactive substances (NPS) in the form of impregnated papers delivered to prisoners are of particular concern in prison settings, where they are commonly used by vaping. The purpose of this study was to create a qualitative method for identifying the various emerging NPS impregnated onto paper samples sent to prisoners. It helps to demonstrate that these findings can be used to predict drug prevalence and trends in prisons. Between 2018 and 2020, 1250 non-judicial paper samples seized from 12 English prisons were analysed to determine the NPSs being circulated. Approximately 1 cm 2 paper were cut and added to 50 % (v/v) methanol in LCMS-grade water. Vortex-mixing was used to prepare extracts (30 min). Q-TOF LC/MS was used to screen the extracts. This study showed that synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonist (SCRA) was the most common drug group detected in impregnated paper seizures in English prisons between 2018 and 2020, followed by cocaine, heroin type drugs (A) and amphetamine, ketamine type drugs (B). Male prisons had a higher prevalence of SCRAs, whereas female prisons had a higher prevalence of A drugs. Furthermore, lower security prisons were found to have a higher prevalence of B drugs, pregabalin, gabapentin type drugs (C), and abused and prescription drugs than higher security prisons which unveiled a higher prevalence of nicotine. The findings of this study have revealed new information about drug use in prisons. To compare the urine Congo-red dot paper test (CRD) with dipstick urinalysis to screen preeclampsia (PE). A total of 409 paired spot urine samples were obtained prospectively from women with suspected pre-eclampsia attending for routine hospital visits. Congo-red dot paper test and dipstick urinalysis were examined and compared to screen pre-eclampsia. The agreement between the two urinary test is modest (kappa coefficient = 0.28, 95% CI 0.14-0.42). The specificity of CRD was higher than urinalysis (97.4% vs. 90.4%, p < .001). Urinalysis performed better in sensitivity (77.3% vs. 40.9%, p = .04) and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC) (0.84 [95% CI 0.74-0.94] vs. 0.69 [95% CI 0.55-0.83], p = .04) than CRD, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, AUC of the parallel test of them is 86.4% (64.0%-96.4%), 89.1% (85.5%-92.0%), and 0.88 (95% CI 0.79-0.96). And the serial test is 31.8% (14.7%-54.9%), 98.7% (96.8%-99.5%), 0.65 (95% CI 0.51-0.79), accordingly. The urinalysis is a better diagnosing test for preeclampsia. CRD could aid in the diagnosis of patients with preeclampsia. Combined the two tests in suspected patients may further improve the performance in the diagnosis of preeclampsia. A paper scintillator, which is composed of an organic scintillator encapsulated in silica nanoparticles adsorbed on three types of micrometer-size silica fine powder (scintillator-silica FP), was prepared by a paper making method. The scintillator-silica FP was found to be distributed throughout the paper scintillator, as shown in its emission images. Surface photoluminescence spectra depended on the amount of scintillator-silica FP and were assigned to the radioluminescence excited upon irradiation with β-particles of 45 Ca. The onset channels of the pulse height spectra of 3 H, 63 Ni, 14 C, 45 Ca, 204 Tl, and 32 P indicated their dependence on linear energy from 18.6 to 1711 keV using the H mode in LSC-7400 for the paper scintillator to detect their maximum β-particles energies. The paper scintillator could also detect α-particles from 211 At, and its pulse height spectrum was wider than that of a liquid scintillator (LS). Radon gas in air was collected using a gas sampler with the paper scintillator, and radiation from daughter nuclides was detected for 10 days. The adsorption/absorption of tritiated water onto/into the paper scintillator after dipping, dropping, and immersing the paper scintillator into tritiated water led to the detection of β-particles under different conditions of tritiated water for determining whether the radioactivity in the solution, is high or low. Compared with traditional papermaking, foam forming is a new papermaking technology that uses foam instead of water to disperse fibres, which can effectively solve the problem of poor evenness of ceramic paper, but the instability of foam itself affects the application of foam forming technology. Herein, a highly stable foaming agent for foam forming technology was prepared via physical reaction of lauryl dimethyl amine oxide (OB-2) with filamentous nanocellulose (cellulose nanofiber (CNF-C) and bacterial cellulose (BC)). Then, the quartz paper was prepared by foam forming technology. Firstly, hydrogen bond interactions between hydroxyl groups of the filamentous nanocellulose and hydrophilic moieties on OB-2 enabled the formation of a 3D nanonetwork layer on the surface of the bubble, which extended the half-life of the bubble and effectively prevented the bubble from bursting or coalescing. Then, the foam was extruded and cracked, and the filamentous nanocellulose was retained on the quartz fibres to prepare filamentous nanocellulose/quartz fibre paper by foam forming technology. The quartz paper exhibited excellent evenness and mechanical properties. Replacing nonbiodegradable plastics with environmentally friendly cellulose materials has emerged as a key trend in environmental protection. This study highlights the development of a strong and hydrophobic micro-nano fibrillated cellulose paper (MNP) through the incorporation of micro-nano fibrillated cellulose fiber (MNF) and chitin nanocrystal (Ch), followed by the impregnation of polymethylsiloxane (PMHS). A low-acid, heat-assisted colloidal grinding strategy was employed to prepare MNF with a high aspect ratio effectively. Ch was incorporated as a reinforcing matrix into the cellulose fiber scaffold through straightforward mechanical mixing and mechanical hot-pressing treatments. Compared to pure MNP, the 5Ch-MNP exhibited a 25 % improvement in tensile strength, reaching 170 MPa, and showed enhanced barrier properties against oxygen and water vapor. The impregnation of PMHS rapidly confers environmentally resistant hydrophobic properties to 1 % PMHS-5Ch-MNP, leading to a water contact angle exceeding 112°, and a 290 % increase in tensile strength under wet conditions. Additionally, the paper demonstrated excellent antibacterial adhesion properties, with the adhesion rates for E. coli and S. aureus exceeding 98 %. Background and Objective: Coeliac disease is a chronic, immune-mediated disorder for which the only treatment consists of lifelong strict adherence to gluten-free diet (GFD). However, there is a lack of evidence-based guidelines on the GFD dietary management of coeliac disease. This position paper, led by the Special Interest Group in coeliac disease of the European Society of Pediatric, Gastroenterology Hepatology, and Nutrition, supported by the Nutrition Committee and the Allied Health Professionals Committee, aims to present evidence-based recommendations on the GFD as well as how to support dietary adherence., Methods: A wide literature search was performed using the MeSH Terms: "diet, gluten free," "gluten-free diet," "diets, gluten-free," "gluten free diet," and "coeliac disease" in Pubmed until November 8th, 2022., Results: The manuscript provides an overview of the definition of the GFD, regulations as basis to define the term "gluten-free," which foods are naturally gluten-free and gluten-containing. The Lucas-Washburn equation is commonly used to predict the distance (L) that a liquid travels through paper. This equation establishes that L 2 is linear with time and inversely proportional to the viscosity of the liquid. However, there is currently no theoretical equation connecting the viscosity of a solution to its concentration. In this study, the imbibition flow of a sucrose solution was measured along the length of a horizontal strip of filter paper, featuring a printed, thermometer-shaped hydrophobic boundary. A sample (38 μL) was dispensed onto the bulb area, and the solution's flow was visually tracked using a red dye added to the sample. The imbibition length (L) was measured by a vernier caliper at 10.0 min after the sample addition. An empirical equation, based on literature values of the viscosity (η) and concentration (C) of sucrose solutions, was proposed. By integrating this empirical equation with the Lucas-Washburn equation, the following equation was derived: L = a⋅exp{-(bC + cC 2 )}, where 'a', 'b' and 'c' are parameters. This equation was fitted to the dataset of L and C, covering C values from 0 to 60 % w/w standard sucrose solutions, resulting in a coefficient of determination of 0.9987. The plot of L against C was observed to closely follow a linear line, with a fitting providing a coefficient of determination of 0.9986. The sucrose contents in samples, such as soft drinks, syrups, and sugarcanes, determined using the imbibition length method and conventional refractometry, were in statistical agreement via the paired t-test at the 95 % confidence level. Biodegradable molecularly imprinted polymer-coated paper (MIP@paper) was effectively produced by polymerization using azinphos-methyl as a template molecule, terephthalic acid as a functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linker, and aqueous ethanol as a green porogenic solvent. The material was subsequently composited onto cellulose paper, which served as the natural substrate, by dip coating with the aid of chitosan and citric acid natural adhesive. The properties, such as static and dynamic adsorption, selectivity, and reusability, were assessed. At rapid adsorption equilibrium (10 min), the MIP@paper had a high adsorption capacity in the range of 2.5-3.7 mg g -1 and good recognition with imprinting factors up to 2.1. In addition, the proposed MIP@paper was utilized efficiently as a sorbent for dispersive solid phase extraction (d-SPE) of eight organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) prior to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. The d-SPE-HPLC method displayed low detection limits of 1.2-4.5 μg kg -1 and significant enrichment factors (up to 320-fold). The proposed method was effectively applied for the determination of OPP residues in agricultural products, including fruits, vegetables, and cereal grains, with satisfactory spiked recoveries (80.1-119.1 %). Purpose: As part of efforts to modernize the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, the national Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is moving from paper-and-pencil instrument (PAPI) administration to electronic administration using tablets. This study aimed to examine differences in demographic characteristics and the reporting of health behaviors and experiences between the PAPI- and tablet-administered 2021 national YRBS questionnaire., Methods: High school students (grades 9-12) in classrooms from 57 schools participating in the 2021 national YRBS were assigned randomly to complete the survey using PAPI (n = 4,684 students) or using tablets (n = 3,645 students). Eighty-nine behavior and experience items were examined to compare the missingness in reporting and the prevalence estimation (i.e., proportions) by administration mode., Results: Demographic characteristics (sex, race/ethnicity, grade, and sexual identity) did not differ by mode (PAPI vs. tablet). For the majority (93.2%, 83 out of 89) of YRBS behavior and experience items, mode was not significantly associated with the reported proportions, adjusting for sex, race/ethnicity, grade, and sexual identity. However, 30 out of 89 (33.7%) items showed significant variation in missingness by mode; 10 items had higher missingness with PAPI administration while 20 had higher missingness with tablet administration., Discussion: Survey administration mode was not significantly associated with behavior and experience reporting among high school students. Purpose: Incisional hernia (IH) is one of the most common complications after abdominal surgeries and may bring great suffering to patients. This study aims to evaluate the global trends in IH research from 2003 to 2023 and visualize the frontiers using bibliometric analysis., Methods: The literature search was conducted on the Web of Science for IH studies published from 2003 to 2023 and sorted by citation frequency. The top 100 most-cited articles were analyzed by the annual publication number, prolific countries and institutions, influential author and journal, and the number of citations through descriptive statistics and visualization., Results: The top paper was cited 1075 times and the median number of citations was 146. All studies were published between 2003 and 2019 and the most prolific year was 2003 with 14 articles. Jeekel J and Rosen M were regarded as the most productive authors with ten articles each and acquired 2738 and 2391 citations, respectively. The top three institutions with the most productive articles were Erasmus Mc, Carolinas Med Ctr, and Univ Utah, while the top three countries were the United States, Netherlands and Germany. Herein, we developed a new waste solution-free paper-based electrochemical immunosensor for SARS-CoV-2 detection in saliva, by combining vertical and lateral flow. In detail, the device was constituted of a reservoir containing all reagents for the construction of the immunological chain onto the magnetic beads and a lateral flow holder which contained a polyester-based electrode, a magnet, and an adsorbent pad. The measurement was carried out by adding the saliva sample into the reservoir, followed by the addition of this solution in the hole present in the lateral flow holder. The successive additions of washing buffer and TMB solution in the lateral flow holder allowed the detection of N protein in saliva in the range of 0.06 to 4 µg/mL with a detection limit equal to 30 ng/mL. The analysis of several saliva samples with the sensing tool and the reference method, demonstrated the effectiveness of this device, being able to identify positive patients with high values of CT e.g. 35. Background: Methods based on paper-based analytical devices (PAD) and smartphone photographic colorimetric detection have become representative instrument-independent point-of-care testing (POCT) platforms due to their low cost and simplicity. However, the detection of target components from whole blood sample still presents challenges in terms of field preparation of small amounts of blood sample and detection sensitivity. This paper presents a rapid online processing method for whole blood samples on PAD based on plasma separation membrane (PSM), and combined with electrokinetic stacking and selective chromatic reaction. Real-time smartphone-based colorimetric detection of free hemoglobin (FHb) and human serum albumin (HSA) was successfully demonstrated., Results: With the proposed method, both detections for low and high concentration analytes could be implemented. The limits of detection of 16.6 mg L -1 for FHb and 0.67 g L -1 for HSA were obtained, respectively, with RSD below 8 %. Lignin is the most important natural source of aromatic compounds. The valorisation of lignin into aromatics requires fractionation steps that can be catalysed by ligninolytic enzymes. However, one of the main limitations of biological lignin fractionation is the low efficiency of biocatalysts; it is therefore crucial to enhance or to identify new ligninolytic enzymes. Currently, the screening of ligninolytic activities on lignin polymers represents a technological bottenleck and hinders the characterization and the discovery of efficient ligninolytic biocatalysts. An efficient and fast method for the measurement of such enzymatic activities is therefore required. In this work, we present a new electrochemical tool based on lignin-coated paper electrodes for the detection and the characterization of ligninolytic activity. A paper electrochemical immunosensor for the combined binding and quantification of the heart failure (HF) biomarker Galectin-3 has been developed. The simple design of the new sensor is comprised of paper material that is decorated with gold nanostructures, to maximize its electroactive surface area, and functionalized with target-specific recognition molecules to selectively bind the protein from aqueous solutions. The binding of the protein caused the blockage of the electron flow to the sensor electroactive surface, thus causing its oxidation potential to shift and the corresponding current to reduce quantitatively with the increase in the protein concentration within the working range of 0.5ng/mL-8ng/mL (LOQ-0.5 ng/mL). This novel sensor was able to quantify Galectin-3 concentration in saliva samples from HF patients and healthy controls within 20 min with good reproducibility (RSD = 3.64%), without the need for complex sample processing steps. The electrochemical measurements of the patient samples were cross validated by ELISA where the percent agreement between the two methods was found to be 92.7% (RSD = 7.20%). The printing process of box packaging paper can generate volatile organic compounds, resulting in odors that impact product quality and health. An efficient, objective, and cost-effective detection method is urgently needed. We utilized a self-developed electronic nose system to test four different cigarette packaging paper samples. Employing multivariate statistical methods like Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Statistical Quality Control (SQC), and Similarity-based Independent Modeling of Class Analogy (SIMCA), we analyzed and processed the collected data. Comprehensive evaluation and quality control models were constructed to assess sample stability and distinguish odors. Results indicate that our electronic nose system rapidly detects odors and effectively performs quality control. By establishing models for quality stability control, we successfully identified samples with acceptable quality and those with odors. To further validate the system's performance and extend its applications, we collected two types of cigarette packaging paper samples with odor data. Using data augmentation techniques, we expanded the dataset and achieved an accuracy rate of 0.9938 through classification and discrimination. This highlights the significant potential of our self-developed electronic nose system in recognizing cigarette packaging paper odors and odorous samples.

Dopamine, the main catecholamine neurotransmitter plays an important role in renal, cardiovascular, central nervous systems, and pathophysiological processes. The abnormal dopamine levels can result in neurological disorders such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, acute anxiety, neuroblastoma and also contribute to cognitive dysfunctions. Given the widespread importance of dopamine concentration levels, it is imperative to develop sensors that are able to monitor dopamine. Herein, we have developed pre-anodized disposable paper electrode modified with 1-pyrenebutyric acid, for the selective and sensitive determination of dopamine. The sensor was characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical techniques for addressing the robust formation and electrochemical activity. The modified electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards dopamine without the common interference from ascorbic acid. The calibration plot for the dopamine sensor resulted linear range from 0.003 μM to 0.5 μM with a detection limit of 0.11 nM. The sensor's potential utility was tested by monitoring dopamine concentration changes in rat brain homogenates when subjected to neurotoxicity. Improving the shelf lives of fruits is challenging. The biodegradable polysaccharide pullulan exhibits excellent film-forming ability, gas barrier performance, and natural decomposability, making it an optimal material for fruit preservation. To overcome problems of high cost and film porosity of existing packaging technologies, we aimed to develop pullulan-based packaging paper to enhance the shelf lives of fruits. A thin paper coating comprising a mixture of 15 wt.% pullulan solution at various standard viscosities (75.6, 77.8, and 108.5 mPa·s) with tea polyphenols (15:2) and/or vitamin C (150:1) improved the oxygen transmission rate (120-160 cm 3 m -2 ·24 h·0.1 MPa), water vapor transmission rate (<5.44 g·mm -1 m -2 ·h·kPa), maximum free radical clearance rate (>87%), and antibacterial properties of base packaging paper. Grapes wrapped with these pullulan-based papers exhibited less weight loss (>4.41%) and improved hardness (>16.4%) after 10 days of storage compared to those of control grapes (wrapped in untreated/base paper). Grapes wrapped with pullulan-based paper had >12.6 wt.% total soluble solids, >1.5 mg/g soluble protein, >0.44 wt.% titratable acidity, and ≥4.5 mg 100 g -1 ascorbic acid. Thus, pullulan-based paper may prolong the shelf life of grapes with operational convenience, offering immense value for fruit preservation.

Phase II metabolites play an important role in diazepam-related cases. The study aimed to assess the stability of diazepam's phase II metabolites in dried blood spots on filter paper., Methods: A piece of filter paper was spotted with 100 µL of whole blood (added 1% sodium fluoride as needed) obtained from participant who received 5 mg diazepam orally, air dried for 2 h at room temperature, and then stored at different conditions. Whole spots were cut at 0.1 cm from the outer edge of blood spots at post-consumption time-points of prior (zero), 5, 16, 35, 61, 120 days and 1, 1.5 years. Analytes were extracted with methanol/water mixture (8:2, v/v) and determined using HPLC-MS/MS. Decomposition rules were analyzed by a statistical software "SPSS"., Results: Temazepam glucuronide remained stable (0.5-18.6% loss) at 20 ℃ and at 20 ℃ with 1% sodium fluoride for 16 days, while it was unstable after 5 days at 4 ℃ (21.1-26.2% loss) and - 20 ℃ (28.9 - 34.4% loss). After 35 days, temazepam glucuronide concentrations began to fluctuate significantly under all conditions, and an obvious increase (290.4-355.1%) was observed in 1.5 years. Oxazepam glucuronide was always unstable after 5 days, the percentage loss was even 100% when it was stored for 61 days and 1.5 years., Conclusions: Dried blood spots on ordinary filter paper are recommended to be stored at 20 ℃ or 20 ℃ with 1% sodium fluoride within 16 days. Efficient diagnosis of mycobacterial infections can effectively manage and prevent the transmission of infectious diseases. Unfortunately, existing diagnostic strategies are challenged by long assay times, high costs, and highly specialized expertise to distinguish between pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary diseases (NTM-PDs). Herein, in this study, an optimized 3D paper-based analytical device (µPAD) is incorporated with a closed lateral flow (LF) strip into a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) device (3D-µPAD-LF-LAMP) for rapid, low-cost, and visual detection of pathogenic mycobacteria. The platform's microfluidic feature enhanced the nucleic acid amplification, thereby reducing the costs and time as compared to boiling, easyMAG, and QIAGEN techniques. Moreover, the LF unit is specifically designed to minimize aerosol contamination for a user-friendly and visual readout. 3D-µPAD-LF-LAMP is optimized and assessed using standard strains, demonstrating a limit of detection (LOD) down to 10 fg reaction -1 . In a cohort of 815 patients, 3D-µPAD-LF-LAMP displays significantly better sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value (NPV), positive predictive value (PPV), and diagnostic accuracy than conventional bacterial culture and Xpert techniques. Nucleic acid quantification, allowing us to accurately know the copy number of target nucleic acids, is significant for diagnosis, food safety, agricultural production, and environmental protection. However, current digital quantification methods require expensive instruments or complicated microfluidic chips, making it difficult to popularize in the point-of-care detection. Paper is an inexpensive and readily available material. In this study, we propose a simple and cost-effective paper membrane-based digital loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method for nucleic acid quantification. In the presence of DNA fluorescence dyes, the high background signals will cover up the amplicons-formed bright spots. To reduce the background fluorescence signals, a quencher-fluorophore duplex was introduced in LAMP primers to replace non-specific fluorescence dyes. After that, the amplicons-formed spots on the paper membrane can be observed; thus, the target DNA can be quantified by counting the spots. Take Vibrio parahaemolyticus DNA detection as an instance, a good linear relationship is obtained between the light spots and the copy numbers of DNA. The paper membrane-based digital LAMP detection can detect 100 copies target DNA per reaction within 30 min. Overall, the proposed nucleic acid quantification method has the advantages of a simple workflow, short sample-in and answer-out time, low cost, and high signal-to-noise, which is promising for application in resourced limited areas.

This research provides an in-depth assessment of two paper yarn variants, examining their structural, functional, and performance characteristics. These yarns demonstrated favorable properties, including suitable linear density, twist, typical cellulosic functional groups as confirmed by Infrared spectroscopy, minimal hairiness, moisture transfer, and creditable mechanical strength. These yarns have flat layered cross-sections and grooved longitudinal surfaces. In addition, a low hairiness index (1.3-1.33) further acknowledged their smooth surface. Their remarkable evenness (15.86% and 7.08%) supported their effective wicking properties. Despite average breaking strength (0.77 cN/dTex and 1.05 cN/dTex) and moderate elongation, these yarns exhibited exceptional water-washing resistance and retained over 89% breaking strength after 15 washes. The authors explore the development of paper-based electronics using carbon-based composites with a biodegradable matrix based on ethyl cellulose and dibasic ester solvent. The main focus is on screen-printing techniques for creating flexible, eco-friendly electronic devices. This research evaluates the printability with the rheological measurements, electrical properties, flexibility, and adhesion of these composites, considering various compositions, including graphene, graphite, and carbon black. The study finds that certain compositions offer sheet resistance below 1 kΩ/sq and good adhesion to paper substrates with just one layer of screen printing, demonstrating the potential for commercial applications, such as single-use electronics, flexible heaters, etc. The study also shows the impact of cyclic bending on the electrical parameters of the prepared layers. This research emphasizes the importance of the biodegradability of the matrix, contributing to the field of sustainable electronics. Overall, this study provides insights into developing environmentally friendly, flexible electronic components, highlighting the role of biodegradable materials in this evolving industry.

The contamination characteristics, migration patterns and health risks of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were investigated in 66 Chinese paper products by using target and non-target screening methods. Among 57 target PFASs, 5 and 6 PFASs were found in the hygiene paper products (n F 2n+1 COOH. Microwave heating can increase the release of PFAS in popcorn bags and convert long-chain PFAS into short-chain ones. The migration experiments indicated that the ethanol in food simulants can increase the migration of PFAS, and short-chain PFAS exhibits a greater migration trend.
