The article discusses research conducted to study the mass spectra of Polyethylene glycol using a Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART) ion source and a time-of-flight high-resolution mass analyzer. It used a time-of-flight AccuTOF mass spectrometer equipped with a DART ion source. Details on the polyethylene glycol ions are presented.

The review covers the aspects of the use of high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry for studying new pharmaceutical entities. In this work, the accuracy of the ratio of the numbers of carbon and hydrogen atoms ( nC/ nH) determined in the molecules of the components of aliphatic hydrocarbon mixtures by gas chromatography with atomic emission detection (GC-AED) is studied as a function of the oxygen concentration in helium. It is shown that the highest accuracy is achieved at about 9% of oxygen, which is the highest oxygen concentration possible for the Agilent model G2350A GC-AED device. At the standard oxygen concentration (about 1.5%) recommended by the manufacturer, the accuracy of the nC/ nH ratios was five to ten times lower. It is shown that improving the accuracy of the nC/ nH ratios at the maximum oxygen concentration in plasma is followed by an increase in the detection limit approximately by an order of magnitude. The possibility of using the DART mass spectrometry method for rapid analysis of soft medicinal formulations is considered. Studies of 'tetracycline', 'Sintomycin Liniment', and 'Levomecol' creams and suppositories based on hard fat were studied. The possibility of using this method for the rapid screening of medicinal formulations in search of counterfeits is discussed. The possibility of using DART mass spectrometry for the identification of active ingredients in tableted drugs has been studied. Analytical results for some drugs such as glycin, nootropyl, anaprilin, mexidol, and biseptol are presented. A letter to the editor is presented which discusses the use of direct analysis in real time (DART) mass spectrometry in the identification of low-molecular compounds of pharmaceuticals.

The article presents a discussion on pharmacokinetics and metabolism of new pharmaceutical entities by employing high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with tandem mass spectrometers. It states the result that using 99.999% pure nitrogen for electrospraying significantly increases the stability of the obtained data and the high precision of the results of quantitative analysis.
