The influence of El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO) on the North Tropical Atlantic (NTA) sea surface temperature (SST) is well‐documented in boreal spring, yet it manifests greater complexity in winter. Distinct from El Niño, La Niña has a statistically significant impact on winter NTA SST, which is primarily contributed by the re‐occurring (i.e., second and third years of multi‐year) La Niña events. Despite similar atmospheric forcing, prominent SST anomalies are observed in the NTA during the re‐occurring La Niña winters but not in the first‐year La Niña winters, mainly due to different initial states associated with previous tropical Pacific forcing. Targeted pacemaker experiments well reproduce the robust impacts of re‐occurring La Niña events on the wintertime NTA SST, highlighting the crucial impact of ENSO cycle complexity in its inter‐basin linkages. BiOCl has garnered considerable attention recently. However, its relatively wide bandgap and poor separation efficiency of charge carriers limit its application in the visible light range. Introducing oxygen vacancies (OVs) and constructing heterojunctions are both considered as viable modification approaches. In this study, oxygen vacancy-rich BiOCl/Bi24O31Cl10 heterojunctions were synthesized using glycine as the fuel by a one-pot self-propagation method. Variations in the amount of fuel led to differences in OV concentration and heterojunction composition in the prepared samples. The XRD pattern, FTIR spectra and EDS confirmed the formation of BiOCl/Bi24O31Cl10 heterojunctions. The XPS and ESR spectra proved the existence of oxygen vacancies. The BET results showed that the sample prepared with an appropriate amount of glycine exhibited a larger specific surface area. The most effective OVs-BiOCl/Bi24O31Cl10 composite demonstrated improvements in degrading rhodamine B (RhB), showing 8.09 and 17.96 times greater efficiency compared to BiOCl and Bi24O31Cl10, respectively. Automatic segmentation of the fundus retinal vessels and accurate classification of the arterial and venous vessels play an important role in clinical diagnosis. This article proposes a fundus retinal vascular segmentation and arteriovenous classification network that combines the adversarial training and attention mechanism to address the issues of fundus retinal arteriovenous classification error and ambiguous segmentation of fine blood vessels. It consists of three core components: discriminator, generator, and segmenter. In order to address the domain shift issue, U‐Net is employed as a discriminator, and data samples for arterial and venous vessels are generated with a generator using an unsupervised domain adaption (UDA) approach. The classification of retinal arterial and venous vessels (A/V) as well as the segmentation of fine vessels is improved by adding a self‐attention mechanism to improve attention to vessel edge features and the terminal fine vessels. Non‐strided convolution and non‐pooled downsampling methods are also used to avoid losing fine‐grained information and learning less effective feature representations. The performance of multi‐class blood vessel segmentation is as follows, per test results on the DRIVE dataset: F1‐score (F1) has a value of 0.7496 and an accuracy of 0.9820. The accuracy of A/V categorization has increased by 1.35% when compared to AU‐Net. Winter precipitation over eastern China displays remarkable interannual variability, which has been suggested to be closely related to El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO). This study finds that ENSO impacts on eastern China precipitation patterns exhibit obvious differences in early (November–December) and late (January–February) winter. In early winter, precipitation anomalies associated with ENSO are characterized by a monopole spatial distribution over eastern China. In contrast, the precipitation anomaly pattern in late winter remarkably changes, manifesting as a dipole spatial distribution. The noteworthy change in precipitation responses from early to late winter can be largely attributed to the seasonally varying Kuroshio anticyclonic anomalies. During the early winter of El Niño years, anticyclonic circulation anomalies appear both over the Philippine Sea and Kuroshio region, enhancing water vapor transport to the entirety of eastern China, thus contributing to more precipitation there. During the late winter of El Niño years, the anticyclone over the Philippine Sea is further strengthened, while the one over the Kuroshio dissipates, which could result in differing water vapor transport between northern and southern parts of eastern China and thus a dipole precipitation distribution. Roughly the opposite anomalies of circulation and precipitation are displayed during La Niña winters. Further analysis suggests that the seasonally-varying Kuroshio anticyclonic anomalies are possibly related to the enhancement of ENSO-related tropical central-eastern Pacific convection from early to late winter. Debris jams contribute to bridge pier failures. Previous investigations showed that a debris jam can constrict the flow cross section, enhance flow intensity, and result in significant scour. Physical modeling was conducted to investigate the influence of debris jams on scour depth. Instead of using a static block to represent a debris jam, dynamic debris jams composed of real tree seedlings were investigated to represent jams forming of woody debris with roots and branches. The dynamic jam was achieved by continuously releasing individual seedlings from upstream. The resulting seedling jams had a typical half-cone shape and generally grew continuously over time, with observed scour increasing with the size of the debris jam. The scour in the presence of a dynamic debris jam could have depth up to twice and volume up to eight times that of a pier without a debris jam. In addition, the dynamic debris jam also induced additional hydraulic head across the cylinder pier, which correlated with the size of debris jam and Froude number. Practical Applications: Scour around a bridge pier is the removal of sediment from the pier foundation by the surrounding flow. This can destabilize the bridge infrastructure, leading to potential failure. The accumulation of wood debris on a bridge pier leads to the formation of a debris jam that can increase scour. Most previous studies measured scour induced by a fixed debris jam geometry of constant size, with no temporal variation. However, in real situations, debris will gradually and often rapidly, especially during floods, accumulate over time around a bridge pier, and the associated scour increases as the debris jam increases in size. This paper presents an experimental study of the temporal evolution of debris accumulation on the model of a bridge pier and the associated progress of scour as a debris jam develops. In contrast to most previous studies that used wooden dowels, the debris is modeled using real seedling trees, which have roughness characteristics more akin to real-world debris. The resulting debris jams are relatively stable due to the interlocking of debris pieces. It was found that the instantaneous scour depth increased in the presence of the developing debris jam and that it was proportional to how much the debris jam blocked the flow. Interestingly, the plan area of the scour hole increased more than that occurring in the absence of the debris; the scour hole volume is hence much greater when a debris jam is present. Introduction: Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading cause of lower respiratory tract infection, especially in children and older people. However, no effective treatment is currently available. Type I interferons (IFNs) are a group of cytokines that help regulate the activity of the immune system. GB05, human IFNα1b inhalation solution, was developed under US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standard guidelines to combat RSV infection. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-escalation phase I trial evaluated the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of nebulized GB05. Methods: A total of 35 eligible healthy Chinese adult volunteers were enrolled in this study. In the single ascending dose (SAD) study, volunteers were randomized into 0.2, 0.6, 1.2, and 1.8 million IU of GB05 or placebo. In the multiple ascending dose (MAD) study, volunteers received 1.2 or 1.8 million IU of GB05 or placebo for four consecutive days. Safety, tolerability, immunogenicity, and plasma pharmacokinetics were assessed for all groups. Results: All adverse events were mild or moderate and resolved spontaneously. The most common adverse event was decreased white blood cell count (8.6% in SAD and 10% in MAD). No serious adverse events, deaths, or adverse events that reached the termination criteria occurred during the study. In SAD, the maximum concentration and area under the curve increased across the dose range of 1.2–1.8 million IU in a non-linear relationship. The maximum plasma concentration after GB05 nebulization (1.06 IU/ml in the 1.8 million IU group) reflected a low concentration in the blood, suggesting a better lung uptake of GB05 and reduced incidence or risks of adverse events. In MAD, a steady state was reached after continuous administrations of twice daily for 3 days. Conclusions: Overall, nebulized GB05 exhibited satisfactory safety, tolerability, and favorable pharmacokinetic (PK) profiles in healthy adult volunteers, supporting further clinical investigation in patients infected with respiratory syncytial virus. Purpose: The traditional Chinese herbal medicine Suaeda salsa (L.) Pall (S. salsa) with a digesting food effect was taken as the research object, and its chemical composition and action mechanism were explored. Methods: The chemical constituents of S. salsa were isolated and purified by column chromatography, and their structures were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance. The food accumulation model in mice was established, and the changes of the aqueous extract of S. salsa in gastric emptying and intestinal propulsion rate, colonic tissue lesions, serum brain-gut peptide hormone, colonic tissue protein expression, and gut microbiota structure were compared. Results: Ten compounds were isolated from S. salsa named as naringenin (1), hesperetin (2), baicalein (3), luteolin (4), isorhamnetin (5), taxifolin (6), isorhamnetin-3-O-β-d-glucoside (7), luteolin-3′-d-glucuronide (8), luteolin-7-O-β-d-glucuronide (9), and quercetin-3-O-β-d-glucuronide (10), respectively. The aqueous extract of S. salsa can improve the pathological changes of the mice colon and intestinal peristalsis by increasing the rate of gastric emptying and intestinal propulsion. By adjusting the levels of 5-HT, CCK, NT, SS, VIP, GT-17, CHE, MTL, and ghrelin, it can upregulate the levels of c-kit, SCF, and GHRL protein, and restore the imbalanced structure of gut microbiota, further achieve the purpose of treating the syndrome of indigestion. The effect is better with the increase of dose. Conclusion: S. salsa has a certain therapeutic effect on mice with the syndrome of indigestion. From the perspective of "brain-gut-gut microbiota", the mechanism of digestion and accumulation of S. salsa was discussed for the first time, which provided an experimental basis for further exploring the material basis of S. salsa. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with a high mortality rate. Pathologically, renal ischemia/reperfusion injury (RIRI) is one of the primary causes of AKI, and hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α may play a defensive role in RIRI. This study assessed the role of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α)-mediated mitophagy in protection against RIRI in vitro and in vivo. The human tubular cell line HK-2 was used to assess hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced mitophagy through different in vitro assays, including western blotting, immunofluorescence staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) measurement. Additionally, a rat RIRI model was established for evaluation by renal histopathology, renal Doppler ultrasound, and transmission electron microscopy to confirm the in vitro data. The selective HIF-1α inhibitor LW6 reduced H/R-induced mitophagy but increased H/R-induced apoptosis and ROS production. Moreover, H/R treatment enhanced expression of the FUN14 domain-containing 1 (FUNDC1) protein. Additionally, FUNDC1 overexpression reversed the effects of LW6 on the altered expression of light chain 3 (LC3) BII and voltage-dependent anion channels as well as blocked the effects of HIF-1α inhibition in cells. Pretreatment of the rat RIRI model with roxadustat, a novel oral HIF-1α inhibitor, led to decreased renal injury and apoptosis in vivo. In conclusion, the HIF-1α/FUNDC1 signaling pathway mediates H/R-promoted renal tubular cell mitophagy, whereas inhibition of this signaling pathway protects cells from mitophagy, thus aggravating apoptosis, and ROS production. Lesion segmentation is a fundamental task in medical image processing, often facing the challenge of subtle lesions. It is important to detect these lesions, even though they can be difficult to identify. Convolutional neural networks, an effective method in medical image processing, often ignore the relationship between lesions, leading to topological errors during training. To tackle topological errors, move is made from pixel‐level to hypergraph representations. Hypergraphs can model lesions as vertices connected by hyperedges, capturing the topology between lesions. This paper introduces a novel dynamic hypergraph learning strategy called DHLS. DHLS allows for the dynamic construction of hypergraphs contingent upon input vertex variations. A hypergraph global‐aware segmentation network, termed HGSNet, is further proposed. HGSNet can capture the key high‐order structure information, which is able to enhance global topology expression. Additionally, a composite loss function is introduced. The function emphasizes the global aspect and the boundary of segmentation regions. The experimental setup compared HGSNet with other advanced models on medical image datasets from various organs. El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the dominant mode of interannual variability in the tropical Pacific, is well known to affect the extratropical climate via atmospheric teleconnections. Extratropical atmospheric variability may in turn influence the occurrence of ENSO events. The winter North Pacific Oscillation (NPO), as the secondary dominant mode of atmospheric variability over the North Pacific, has been recognized as a potential precursor for ENSO development. This study demonstrates that the preexisting winter NPO signal is primarily excited by sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the equatorial western–central Pacific. During ENSO years with a preceding winter NPO signal, which accounts for approximately 60% of ENSO events observed in 1979–2021, significant SST anomalies emerge in the equatorial western–central Pacific in the preceding autumn and winter. The concurrent presence of local convection anomalies can act as a catalyst for NPO-like atmospheric circulation anomalies. In contrast, during other ENSO years, significant SST anomalies are not observed in the equatorial western–central Pacific during the preceding winter, and correspondingly, the NPO signal is absent. Ensemble simulations using an atmospheric general circulation model driven by observed SST anomalies in the tropical western–central Pacific can well reproduce the interannual variability of observed NPO. Therefore, an alternative explanation for the observed NPO–ENSO relationship is that the preceding winter NPO is a companion to ENSO development, driven by the precursory SST signal in the equatorial western–central Pacific. Our results suggest that the lagged relationship between ENSO and the NPO involves a tropical–extratropical two-way coupling rather than a purely stochastic forcing of the extratropical atmosphere on ENSO. This study provides a promising strategy for designing separator modified materials to solve the shuttle effect of soluble LiPSs in Li-S batteries. [Display omitted] • A composite material consisting of the 3D connected carbon network and ultra-thin NiCo-LDH nanosheets was devised and manufactured. • The DFT calculations further provided a comprehensive demonstration of the synergy adsorption and catalytic conversion processes. • Li-S batteries that were assembled using modified separators demonstrated remarkable electrochemical performance. The shuttle effect of soluble lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) is primarily responsible for the unstable performance of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, which has severely impeded their continued development. In order to solve this problem, a special strategy is proposed. Specifically, ultra-thin NiCo based layered double hydroxides (named LDH or NiCo-LDH) nanosheets are implanted into a pre-designed 3D interconnected carbon networks (SPC) to obtain porous composite materials (named SPC-LDH). During the operation of the battery, the 3D interconnected porous carbon mesh was the first to rapidly adsorb LiPSs, and then the LDH on the surface of the carbon mesh was used to realize the catalytic conversion of LiPSs. This facilitates the electrochemical conversion reaction between S substances while addressing the "shuttle effect". As a result, the battery maintains a discharge capacity of 1401.9, 1114.3, 975.5, 880.7, 760.4 and 679.6 mAh g−1 at the current densities of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2 and 3C, respectively. After 200 cycles at 2C, the battery's capacity stays at 732.9 mAh g−1, meaning that the average rate of capacity decay is only 0.007 % per cycle. Moreover, in-situ XRD demonstrates the critical function of PP/SPC-LDH separators in inhibiting LiPSs and encouraging Li 2 S transformation. The strong affinity of SPC-LDH for Li 2 S 6 is also confirmed by density functional theory (DFT) calculation, offering more theoretical support for the synergistic adsorption process. Mn ions in different valence states can emit light of different colors in an octahedral coordination environment, which is conducive to the development of a single matrix with multi-color luminescence and applications in the field of anti-counterfeiting. The dual mode multi-color luminescent material CaSb 2 O 6 : Mn has been successfully synthesized using a single Mn source in the atmosphere. The CaSb 2 O 6 matrix itself can also absorb 285 nm UV light, emit blue light, and show a long afterglow phenomenon. Both Mn4+ and Mn2+ ions will appear in the [SbO 6 ] octahedra, whether the Mn source adopts MnCO 3 or MnO 2. The Mn4+ ion exhibits red emission upon UV excitation at 347 nm. The Mn2+ ion can emit a bright green light at 285 nm excitation while exhibiting a long afterglow phenomenon. In this study, the Mn2+ doped octahedron showed unique green emission and broadens the range of its photoluminescence (PL) wavelength. Needle-like calcium oxalate crystals called raphides are unique structures in the plant kingdom. Multiple biomacromolecules work together in the regulatory and transportation pathways to form raphides; however, the mechanism by which this occurs remains unknown. Using banana (Musa spp.), this study combined in vivo methods including confocal microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Q Exactive mass spectrometry to identify the main biomolecules, such as vesicles, together with the compositions of lipids and proteins in the crystal chamber, which is the membrane compartment that surrounds each raphide during its formation. Simulations of the vesicle transportation process and the synthesis of elongated calcium oxalate crystals in vitro were then conducted, and the results suggested that the vesicles carrying amorphous calcium oxalate and proteins embedded in raphides are transported along actin filaments. These vesicles subsequently fuse with the crystal chamber, utilizing the proteins embedded in the raphides as a template for the final formation of the structure. Our findings contribute to the fundamental understanding of the regulation of the diverse biomacromolecules that are crucial for raphide formation. At present, tuning the luminescence characteristics of phosphors by external physical stimuli such as temperature and pressure has attracted the interest of researchers. However, the emission-tunable luminescence processes by temperature or pressure in lead-free perovskite with ordered vacancy materials have not been systematically studied. In this study, Bi3+-doped Rb2SnCl6 crystals were successfully synthesized using a simple precipitation method, and these crystals demonstrated a remarkable enhancement of luminescence intensity compared with the unannealed ones at 140–200 °C, and with a red-shift in the emission peak from 450 to 500 nm. It was found that the annealing treatment increased the Bi–Cl bond length leading to emission red-shift and achieved the change in the emission intensity due to the band gap modulation of the material. Furthermore, a candidate material for the color-changing optical security strategies was obtained by combining the Bi3+-doped Rb2SnCl6 phosphor and printing ink. This work is a valuable reference for the rational design of luminescent perovskites with promising new functionalities and stimulates the great potential of luminescent perovskites in developing promising phosphors for advanced anticounterfeiting. Sulfur-resistant Mo-based catalysts have become promising for the one-step synthesis of methanethiol (CH3SH) from CO/H2/H2S, but the low reactant conversion and poor product selectivity have constrained its development. Herein, we synthesized K-MoS2/Al2O3 and K-Mo2C/Al2O3 catalysts via the sulfurization and carbonization of K-Mo-based catalysts in the oxidized state, respectively. During the synthesis of CH3SH, both K-Mo2C/Al2O3 and K-MoS2/Al2O3 showed excellent catalytic performance, and the activity of the former is superior to that of the latter. The effect of different treatments on the catalytic performance of Mo-based catalysts was investigated by XRD, BET, Raman spectroscopy, H2-TPR, and reactants-TPD characterization. The results showed that the sulfide-treated sample showed stronger metal-support interactions and contributed to the formation of K2S, which exposed more active sites and stabilized the formation of C-S bonds. Carbonized samples enhanced the activation of H2, which promoted the hydrogenation of the intermediate species of carbonyl sulfide (COS) and thus improved the selectivity of CH3SH. Sea surface temperature (SST) variability in the East China Sea–Kuroshio (EK) region has important implications for the surrounding weather, climate, and marine ecology. The year-to-year variations of the EK SST are expectedly linked to El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the predominant predictability source of seasonal-to-interannual climate variability. Surprisingly, no significant SST signal is observed in the EK region when focusing on the ENSO autumn–winter season with the persistent and pronounced SST anomalies in the tropical Pacific. We find that a remarkable seasonal reversal appears in the ENSO–EK SST connection, shifting from a negative relationship in autumn [Aug(0)–Oct(0)] to a positive relationship in winter [Dec(0)–Feb(1)]. This reversal is mainly attributed to the seasonally varying ENSO-associated western North Pacific (WNP) atmospheric circulation patterns. During ENSO autumns, the anomalous WNP anticyclone is confined south of 20°N, which is accompanied with cyclonic circulation anomalies in the EK region. The associated anomalous northerly wind tends to enhance the background northerly wind, thereby facilitating the local SST cooling mainly via the wind–evaporation–SST effect. In the subsequent winter, the ENSO-related WNP anticyclonic anomalies intensify and extend toward the EK region. Consequently, the weakened background northerly wind induced by southerly wind anomalies leads to the increase of downward latent and sensible heat flux in the EK region, fostering the local SST warming. The observed seasonal reversal of ENSO impacts can be evidenced by the tropical Pacific pacemaker experiments, emphasizing the importance of seasonally modulated ENSO teleconnection and holding implications for the local SST climate prediction. While the prominent influence of El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO) on the Indian Ocean Oscillation (IOD) is widely recognized, intricate relationships between them are often invoked that introduce challenges into seasonal predictions. Previous studies have shown that different flavors of El Niño exhibit distinct associations with the IOD. In this study, we demonstrate that La Niña's teleconnection to the IOD is primarily controlled by its longitudinal position. Westward‐displaced La Niña events tend to produce stronger negative convection anomalies in the central Pacific and more pronounced Walk Circulation anomalies, thereby triggering strong negative IOD events. In contrast, eastward‐displaced La Niña events are usually accompanied by feeble convection response due to the excessively cold conditions in the cold tongue, yielding insignificant IOD response. The pivotal role of La Niña's longitudinal position on the IOD's response is realistically reproduced by targeted pacemaker experiments, providing new insights into inter‐basin climate connections. In this study, we show that the longitudinal position of negative SST anomalies during La Niña events (i.e., cold phase of ENSO) in shaping their connection with IOD. Different from westward‐displaced La Niña events that can drive robust negative IOD events, eastward‐displaced La Niña events do not yield significant IOD anomalies due to the excessively cold conditions prevalent in the eastern Pacific cold tongue region. We highlight the importance of La Niña's longitudinal position in its teleconnection to other ocean basins and the associated regional climate anomalies. Electric vehicles (EVs) are experiencing explosive developments due to their advantages in energy conservation and environmental protection. As a pivotal component of EVs, the safety performance of lithium-ion batteries directly affects driving miles and even safety; hence, a battery thermal management system (BTMS) is especially important. To improve the thermal safety performance of power battery modules, first, a new leak-proof phase change material (PCM)-coupled liquid-cooled composite BTMS for large-scale battery modules is proposed in this research. Second, the numerical simulation analysis method was utilized to analyze the influences of the fluid flow channel shape, working fluid inlet temperature, inlet velocity, and reverse flow conditions on the BTMS. Eventually, the abovementioned performances were compared with the traditional PCM-coupled liquid-cooling strategy. The relative data indicated that the Tmax was reduced by 17.5% and the ΔTmax was decreased by 19.5% compared to the liquid-cooling approach. Further, compared with conventionally designed PCM composite liquid cooling, the ΔTmax was reduced by 34.9%. The corresponding data showed that, when using the e-type flow channel, reverse flow II, the inlet flow velocity was 0.001–0.005 m/s, and the inlet temperature was the ambient temperature of the working condition. The thermal performance of the anti-leakage system with a thermal conduction slot PCM-coupled liquid-cooling composite BTMS reached optimal thermal performance. The outcome proved the superiority of the proposed BTMS regarding temperature control and temperature equalization capabilities. Westerly wind bursts (WWBs), aperiodic burst-like atmospheric disturbances in the tropics, play an important role during the development stage of El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events and in turn can be strongly modulated by ENSO itself. Previous work argued that WWBs exhibit a pronounced seasonality at the equator during an El Niño evolution, i.e., being more frequent and vigorous during the developing boreal autumn compared to the decaying spring. Here we show that this seasonal difference in WWB activity at the equator is a segmentary manifestation of a meridional migration of WWB activity, which is closely linked to the southward displacement of the El Niño-related deep convection from the developing autumn to decaying spring. The highest climatological SSTs over the western-central Pacific are located mainly to the north of the equator in boreal autumn and south of it during boreal spring; hence the equatorially quasi-symmetric El Niño-related SST anomalies tend to induce deep convection and generate more WWBs in the Northern Hemisphere during the developing autumn and more in the Southern Hemisphere during the decaying spring. Despite some differences in the zonal distribution and intensity, there appears a close resemblance between the seasonal-varying features of WWBs during eastern Pacific (EP) and central Pacific (CP) El Niño events regarding the north–south displacement, due to similar meridional shifts of deep convection anomalies. This study provides a more comprehensive picture of the spatiotemporal characteristics of WWBs during El Niño events and improves our understanding of the relationship between ENSO and high-frequency atmospheric variability. The Pacific Meridional Mode (PMM) has long been associated with extra‐tropical air‐sea coupling processes, which are thought to influence the development of El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Here we show that the PMM on seasonal to interannual timescales is closely associated with a newly proposed tropical mode known as the ENSO Combination mode (C‐mode), which arises from the nonlinear interaction between ENSO and the background annual cycle in the deep tropics. The PMM exhibits a remarkable resemblance with the C‐mode in atmospheric patterns, spectral characteristics, and local impacts. Based on a simple Hasselmann‐type model, we further demonstrate that the C‐mode‐related atmospheric anomalies can effectively drive PMM‐like sea surface temperature anomalies. As the C‐mode captures seasonally modulated ENSO characteristics, the seasonal‐to‐interannual PMM variability could naturally establish a connection with ENSO, thereby offering an alternative explanation for the observed relationship between PMM and ENSO. A debris jam causes extra load and associated scour on a bridge pier, and this significantly affects the safety of the bridge. Laboratory experiments were conducted to investigate the flow field around half-cone shaped debris jams of equal size, following the geometry in previous field studies, but with different surface roughness. The debris jams were assembled using dowels or by 3D printing. The results indicate three zones were observed behind the debris jam: the wake dead zone, high shear transition zone, and accelerated high-speed zone. A debris jam enlarges the dead zone while Reynolds shear stress was greatest in the transition zone for all debris jam cases. Additionally, the drag coefficient of debris jams built by dowels was greater compared with the 3D-printed debris jam, attributed to the debris jam roughness. In summary, debris jams form the wake dead zone behind the pier, increase downward flow in front of the pier, and enhance flow acceleration around the pier, highlighting the potential hazards to bridge safety. El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) exhibits highly asymmetric temporal evolutions between its warm and cold phases. While El Niño events usually terminate rapidly after their mature phase and show an already established transition into the cold phase by the following summer, many La Niña events tend to persist throughout the second year and even reintensify in the ensuing winter. While many mechanisms were proposed, no consensus has been reached yet and the essential physical processes responsible for the multiyear behavior of La Niña remain to be illustrated. Here, we show that a unique ocean physical process operates during multiyear La Niña events. It is characterized by rapid double reversals of zonal ocean current anomalies in the equatorial Pacific and exhibits a fairly regular near-annual periodicity. Mixed-layer heat budget analyses reveal comparable contributions of the thermocline and zonal advective feedbacks to the SST anomaly growth in the first year of multiyear La Niña events; however, the zonal advective feedback plays a dominant role in the reintensification of La Niña events. Furthermore, the unique ocean process is identified to be closely associated with the preconditioning heat content state in the central to eastern equatorial Pacific before the first year of La Niña, which has been shown in previous studies to play an active role in setting the stage for the future reintensification of La Niña. Despite systematic underestimation, the above oceanic process can be broadly reproduced by state-of-the-art climate models, providing a potential additional source of predictability for the multiyear La Niña events. Due to Fermi-level pinning in metal–two-dimensional MoS2 junctions, improving the performance of MoS2-based electrical devices is still under extensive study. The device performance of few-layer MoS2 depends strongly on the number of layers. In this work, via density-functional theory calculations, a comprehensive understanding from the atomistic view was reached for the interlayer interaction between metal and few-layer MoS2 with phase-engineering and intercalation doping, which are helpful for improving the contact performance. These two methods are probed to tune the performance of few-layer MoS2-based field-effect transistors, and both of them can tune the Schottky barrier height. Phase-engineering, which means that the MoS2 layer in contact with metal is converted to the T phase, can transform the Schottky barrier from n- to p-type. Intercalation doping, which takes advantage of annealing and results in metal atom interaction in between MoS2 layers, makes the MoS2 layers become quasi-freestanding and converts the indirect bandgap into direct bandgap. The exploration of topologically nontrivial states in condensed matter systems, along with their novel transport properties, has garnered significant research interest. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of representative topological phases, starting from the initial proposal of the quantum Hall insulator. We begin with a concise introduction, followed by a detailed examination of first-order topological quantum phases, including gapped and gapless systems, encompassing relevant materials and associated phenomena in experiment. Subsequently, we delve into the realm of exotic higher-order topological quantum phases, examining both theoretical propositions and experimental findings. Moreover, we discuss the mechanisms underlying the emergence of higher-order topology, as well as the challenges involved in experimentally verifying materials exhibiting such properties. Finally, we outline future research directions. This review not only systematically surveys various types of topological quantum states, spanning from first-order to higher-order, but also proposes potential approaches for realizing higher-order topological phases, thereby offering guidance for the detection of related quantum phenomena in experiments. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are a unique class of multifunctional hybrid crystals that have been successfully utilized in diverse ranges of applications. However, since MOFs are prone to aqueous degradation, the development of stable luminescent MOF platforms in aqueous media is still a huge challenge. Here, a novel dual-ligand Eu3+/DUT-52-COOH composite is prepared based on the luminescent DUT-52 prototype structure via a dual-ligand strategy and a post-synthetic modification (PSM) method. The functionalized Eu3+/DUT-52-COOH material exhibits dual emission and good photothermal stability in aqueous media. Thus, Eu3+/DUT-52-COOH is developed as a ratiometric luminescent sensor to achieve highly selective and sensitive detection of Cu2+ and Cr2O72− in aqueous solutions and has a low detection limit of 3.43 μM and 25.7 nM, respectively. This work is one of the few cases of detecting Cu2+ and Cr2O72− in aqueous media based on a DUT-52, and the detection signals can be observed by the bare eye without using sophisticated analytical instruments. The possible sensing mechanism is discussed in detail. The results obtained in this project may provide broad prospects for developing smart sensing systems to accomplish highly efficient, easily operable and quantitative intelligent recognition of Cu2+ and Cr2O72−. Wide‐bandgap (WBG) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have garnered significant attention for their potential applications in tandem solar cells. However, their large open‐circuit voltage (VOC) deficit and serious photo‐induced halide segregation remain the main challenges that impede their applications. Herein, a post‐treatment strategy without thermal annealing is presented to form a 2D top layer of 2‐thiopheneethylammonium lead halide (n = 1) on WBG perovskites. This thermal annealing‐free post‐treatment method can more effectively passivate the defects of WBG methylamine (MA)‐free formamidinium/cesium lead iodide/bromide perovskite films and suppress photo‐induced perovskite phase segregation, as compared with the thermal annealing method that yields multi‐2D phases. The resulting opaque and semi‐transparent 1.66 eV‐bandgap perovskite solar cells deliver maximum power conversion efficiencies of 21.47% (a small VOC deficit of 0.43 V) and 19.11%, respectively, both of which are among the highest reports for inverted MA‐free WBG PSCs. Consequently, four‐terminal all‐perovskite tandem cells realize a remarkable efficiency of 26.64%, showing great promise for their applications in efficient multi‐junction tandem solar cells. Understanding the interaction between the tropical Pacific and Atlantic Oceans has challenged the climate community for decades. Typically, boreal summer Atlantic Niño events are followed by vigorous Pacific events of opposite sign around two seasons later. However, incorporating the equatorial Atlantic information to variabilities internal to the Pacific lends no significant additional predictive skill for the subsequent El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Here we resolve this conundrum in a physically consistent frame, in which the nascent onset of a Pacific event rapidly induces an opposite‐signed summer equatorial Atlantic event and the lead correlation of Atlantic over Pacific is a statistical artifact of ENSO's autocorrelation. This Pacific‐to‐Atlantic impact is limited to a short window around late spring due to seasonally‐amplified Atlantic atmosphere‐ocean coupling. This new frame reconciles the discrepancies between the observed and multi‐model simulated inter‐basin relationship, providing a major advance in understanding seasonally‐modulated inter‐basin climate connections as well as their predictability. Forecasting the time development of scour depth at bridge pier foundations is of great significance to mitigate or avoid the potential failure of bridges. Presently, several models have been developed to predict the scour depth at the base of bridge piers in the case of flood events. This study summarizes existing models for the temporal evolution of bridge pier scour and divides these studies into semiempirical models and empirical models, as well as artificial intelligence models. Several experimental data sets collected from previous studies, 665 points in total, are used to develop a new multigene genetic programming (MGGP) model for temporal scour depth at a circular bridge pier. In addition, independent data, 899 points in total, from previous studies and new physical modeling tests are applied to evaluate the behaviours of existing models, as well as the newly developed MGGP model. To comprehensively understand the volatile compounds and assess the aroma profiles of different types of Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim. Anli, Dongmili, Huagai, Jianbali, Jingbaili, Jinxiangshui, and Nanguoli were detected via headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled with two-dimensional gas chromatography/time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC×GC-TOFMS). The aroma composition, total aroma content, proportion and number of different aroma types, and the relative quantities of each compound were analyzed and evaluated. The results showed that 174 volatile aroma compounds were detected in various cultivars, mainly including esters, alcohols, aldehydes, and alkenes: Jinxiangshui had the highest total aroma content at 2825.59 ng/g; and Nanguoli had the highest number of aroma species detected at 108. The aroma composition and content varied among pear varieties, and the pears could be divided into three groups based on principal component analysis. Twenty-four kinds of aroma scents were detected; among them, fruit and aliphatic were the main fragrance types. The proportions of aroma types also varied among different varieties, visually and quantitatively displaying changes of the whole aroma of the different varieties of pears brought by the changes in aroma composition. The treatment of cancers is a significant challenge in the healthcare context today. Spreading circulating tumor cells (CTCs) throughout the body will eventually lead to cancer metastasis and produce new tumors near the healthy tissues. Therefore, separating these invading cells and extracting cues from them is extremely important for determining the rate of cancer progression inside the body and for the development of individualized treatments, especially at the beginning of the metastasis process. The continuous and fast separation of CTCs has recently been achieved using numerous separation techniques, some of which involve multiple high-level operational protocols. Although a simple blood test can detect the presence of CTCs in the blood circulation system, the detection is still restricted due to the scarcity and heterogeneity of CTCs. The development of more reliable and effective techniques is thus highly desired. The technology of microfluidic devices is promising among many other bio-chemical and bio-physical technologies. This paper reviews recent developments in the two types of microfluidic devices, which are based on the size and/or density of cells, for separating cancer cells. Background: Balamuthia granulomatous amoebic encephalitis (GAE) is a peculiar parasitic infectious disease of the central nervous system, about 39% of the infected Balamuthia GAE patients were found to be immunocompromised and is extremely rare clinically. The presence of trophozoites in diseased tissue is an important basis for pathological diagnosis of GAE. Balamuthia GAE is a rare and highly fatal infection for which there is no effective treatment plan in clinical practice. Case presentation: This paper reports clinical data from a patient with Balamuthia GAE to improve physician understanding of the disease and diagnostic accuracy of imaging and reduce misdiagnosis. A 61-year-old male poultry farmer presented with moderate swelling pain in the right frontoparietal region without obvious inducement three weeks ago. Head computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) revealed a space-occupying lesion in the right frontal lobe. Intially clinical imaging diagnosed it as a high-grade astrocytoma. The pathological diagnosis of the lesion was inflammatory granulomatous lesions with extensive necrosis, suggesting amoeba infection. The pathogen detected by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is Balamuthia mandrillaris, the final pathological diagnosis was Balamuthia GAE. Conclusion: When a head MRI shows irregular or annular enhancement, clinicians should not blindly diagnose common diseases such as brain tumors. In order to provide theoretical and practical supports for the risk prevention and management of intelligent ship at sea, a N-K model is adopted to investigate the coupling mechanism of risk factors of intelligent ship. Firstly, the navigation risks of intelligent ships are divided into four aspects: navigation environment perception, remote control center, environment and emergency management, and then the risk factors affecting the safety are analyzed. The risk coupling is divided into single factor coupling, double factor coupling and multiple factor coupling. Secondly, the formation mechanism of coupling risk is analyzed based on the concept of comprehensive security threshold. Finally, a N-K model is used to describe the coupling relationship within the system quantitatively. For the first time, a case study of N-K model was carried out based on 299 maritime accident statistics data matching intelligent ships released by major maritime agencies from 2011 to 2021. The results show that the coupling risk factors are proportional to the coupling information interaction value, and the coupling information interaction value determines the occurrence probability of safety accidents; the factors of remote control center have the greatest influence on coupling information interaction value. In the construction and operation of intelligent ships in the future, managers should strengthen the construction and control of remote control center, avoid multi-factor coupling, pay more attention to the weak link of navigation risk, establish an anti-coupling mechanism, and improve the safety of intelligent ship production and operation. With the increasing requirements of shield tunnel construction, the demand for the development and application of high-performance lining segments continues to rise. During the manufacture and forming process of high-performance composite segments, large-scale shear key welding is an important factor affecting the mechanical performance of segments. This paper aims to study the effect of shear key welding on the mechanical properties of composite segments. In this study, the algorithm transformation of the welding heat source model was first conducted. Then, a comprehensive analysis of the shear key was presented using the finite-element method, and a welding experiment was conducted to verify the reliability of the adopted numerical model. It was found that the temperature of the welding point changes with the movement of the heat source in the shear key welding, in which the maximum temperature peak can reach 2,236 K. The welding residual stress was mainly concentrated in the range of about 30 mm from the welding point, and then the value decreased gradually. In the welding of multiple shear keys, the residual stress at the central axis of adjacent shear keys will be superimposed, and the mutual influence of adjacent shear keys during welding should be avoided. Through a key-panel welding experiment, the numerical simulation results of the shear key-panel model were verified. This paper presents a work to define four fundamental concepts, namely, buoyant force, submerged unit weight, seepage force, and critical hydraulic gradients, for saturated geomaterials including soils, rocks, and concrete under normal and high pressures using the general effective stress (GES) concept along with Terzaghi's effective stress. In particular, four typical GES expressions are used for this purpose, and their impacts on the definition of the four concepts are compared based on available experimental evidence in the literature. The results suggest that (1) Terzaghi's effective stress can be physically validated in the context of Archimedes' principle for soils under normal conditions; (2) the generalized buoyant force on the unit volume of saturated geomaterials is the product of the unit weight of pore fluid and the GES coefficient tensor; and (3) the generalized seepage force theoretically acts in the direction of pore fluid flow only when the GES coefficient tensor is proportional to the permeability coefficient tensor. These four fundamental concepts have a profound significance for geotechnical applications with GES and thus merit further validation with adequate laboratory and in situ observations. At the watershed level, the distribution characteristics of enantiomers in sediments collected from the river network of an agricultural area near the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River were tested, and their potential correlations with the physicochemical properties and microbial communities of the sediments were analyzed. The sediment pollution was serious at sites 8 and 9, with their pollution source possibly being agricultural or industrial sewage. Moreover, there were higher cumulative contents of pesticide residues at sites 4, 8, and 9. Specifically, Cycloxaprid was the most detected chiral pesticide in the study area, followed by Dinotefuran and Diclofop-methyl. Additionally, Ethiprole and Difenoconazole had strong enantioselectivity in the study area. Interestingly, the enantiomers of some chiral pesticides, such as Tebuconazole, had completely different distributions at different sites. Pearson correlation analysis showed that sediment catalase and microbial biomass carbon were important factors for enantioselectivity of chiral pesticides. The effect of sediment physicochemical properties on enantioselective distribution was achieved by influencing the microorganisms in the sediment. Furthermore, the enantioselective distribution of Tebuconazole was closely related to the genus Arenimonas. Overall, the enantioselective distribution of most of the chiral pesticides was positively correlated with the prokaryotic microbial community. This study provides empirical support for agricultural non-point source pollution caused by chiral pesticides, and also lays a research foundation for exploring the factors that affect the fate of chiral pesticides in the environment. Red LEDs excited by blue light have a wide range of applications in plant growth due to their simple structure. The preparation of efficient red phosphors has attracted much attention from researchers. In this paper, Cs 2 NaGdCl 6 :Ho3+ Sb3+ phosphors were synthesized by the solvothermal method, which produced the characteristic emission of Ho3+ 5 F5→ 5 I8 at 655 nm under 460 nm excitation. The red light at 655 nm is further enhanced after the introduction of Sb3+, and the quantum efficiency can reach 39.85 %. The luminescence mechanism and energy transfer of Sb3+ and Ho3+ were further investigated. The Arctic warming around the Barents and Kara Sea frequently coincides with the Eurasian cooling winters, which is referred to as the warm Arctic-cold Eurasia (WACE) pattern. We here show that the WACE pattern during late winter (January-March) is closely associated with the tropical El Niño-Southern Oscillation but with a striking asymmetric linkage. In general, La Niña events are accompanied with an anomalous high-pressure system over Eurasia, facilitating the formation of the positive WACE pattern. However, a weak connection is detected between the El Niño and WACE pattern. This asymmetric influence of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) on Eurasian circulation and surface air temperature can be attributed to the nonlinearity in its modulation on planetary waves and the spatial structure of stratospheric polar vortex during the warm and cold phases. During La Niña winters, the height anomalies over Eurasia tend to prevail in the troposphere due to an enhancement in the wave-1 planetary wave in the middle and low layers, in contrast to El Niño years with height anomalies more confined to the upper stratosphere. Microplastics (MPs) usually appear in the aquatic environment as complex pollutants with other environmental pollutants, such as levofloxacin (LVFX). After 45-day exposure to LVFX and MPs with different particle sizes at environmental levels, we measured the weight, snout-to-vent length (SVL), and development stages of Rana nigromaculata. Furthermore, we analyzed proteins and genes related to immune system and thyroid axis regulation, intestinal histological, and bioaccumulation of LVFX and MPs in the intestine and brain to further explore the toxic mechanism of co-exposure. We found MPs exacerbated the effect of LVFX on growth and development, and the order of inhibitory effects is as follows: LVFX-MP3>LVFX-MP1>LVFX-MP2. 0.1 and 1 μm MP could penetrate the blood–brain barrier, interact with LVFX in the brain, and affect growth and development by regulating thyroid axis. Besides, LVFX with MPs caused severer interference on thyroid axis compared with LVFX alone. However, 10 μm MP was prone to accumulating in the intestine, causing severe histopathological changes, interfering with the intestinal immune system and influencing growth and development through immune enzyme activity. Thus, we concluded that MPs could regulate the thyroid axis by interfering with the intestinal immune system. This study reveals the influence of multivalent background ions, including Ca2+, K+, Na+ and Mg2+ on the adsorption capacity of natural mineral materials for azo dye molecules through experiments and machine learning. At the molecular and electronic scales, DFT calculations elucidate the electronic transfer pathways and adsorption mechanisms between them, providing computational support for the machine learning results. The experimental results demonstrate that the adsorbent has good removal efficiency for azo dye molecules. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model and Langmuir model fit the kinetic and isotherm data well, indicating uniform and predominantly physical adsorption. The machine learning results show that the gradient boosting decision tree model has better fit to the experimental data, and the correlation impact of mixed background ions on the adsorbent is more significant than that of individual ions. The inhibitory strength of ions on the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent follows the order of Mg2+ > Ca2+ > K+ > Na+. DFT results indicate that the adsorption process is mainly facilitated by the interaction of hydrogen bonding (C–H...O) and van der Waals forces (Si–H...C), ensuring high adsorption efficiency. Additionally, it is found that although background ions alter the electron transfer pathways during the adsorption process and reduce the stability of complexes, azo dye molecules can compensate for the blocked adsorption sites by adhering to background ions already adsorbed on the surface of the adsorbent through cation-π interactions, reducing their inhibitory effect on adsorption. This study provides some evidence for the impact of background ions as environmental factors on adsorption processes through a combination of machine learning, experiments, and theoretical calculations. As the "fourth-largest energy source" and the "only renewable organic carbon source", biomass and its derived platform molecules (BDPMs) are widely used for selective upgrading to high-value-added chemicals and fuels, which can alleviate the energy crisis caused by the shortage of traditional fossil fuels. Electrocatalysis is emerging as a promising "biorefinery technology" for BDPM valorization, in which various high-value-added chemicals and fuels can be produced under green and mild conditions. However, the development of electrocatalytic upgrading of BDPMs is hugely lopsided due to a limited understanding of the reaction mechanisms. Herein, we comprehensively review the electrocatalytic upgrade of the top 14 BDPMs (classified into three main groups: alcohols, furans, and carboxylic acids) into high value-added chemicals and fuels, concentrating on the reaction pathways and the mechanisms. Thereafter, we emphasize the recent development of advanced electrode materials and focus on the principles for enhanced electrochemical activity and product selectivity. Afterward, a detailed analysis of advanced electrocatalyst synthesis and modification strategies is described to inspire more research attention and bring forward the practical application of the technique. The ichthyofauna of continental islands is characterized by immigration through a land bridge due to fluctuating sea levels. Hainan Island is adjacent to the southern margin of mainland China and provides opportunities for understanding the origin and diversification of freshwater fishes. The aim of our study was to evaluate the level of genetic variation and phylogeographic structure of Opsariichthys hainanensis on Hainan Island and mainland China, using mtDNA cyt b gene (1140 bp) and D-loop (926 bp), nuclear RAG1 gene (1506 bp), and 12 microsatellite loci. Mitochondrial phylogenetic analysis identified five major lineages according to the geographical distribution from different populations. We suggested that two dispersal events occurred: the population in the Changhua River migrated to the Red River (Lineage B), and the populations in the South Hainan region moved northwards to the North Hainan region. However, populations in Northwest Hainan Island dispersed to the populations around the Gulf of Tonkin (Lineage A1) and populations in Northeast Hainan Island dispersed to the populations in mainland China (Lineage A2). Our results indicated that the populations of O. hainanensis suffered a bottleneck event followed by a recent population expansion supported by the ABC analysis. We suggest that O. hainanensis populations were found mostly in the lowlands and a lack of suitable freshwater habitat in southern mainland China and Hainan during the Last Interglacial period, and then expansion occurred during the Last Glacial Maximum. The three strongest positive Indian Ocean dipole (pIOD) events over the past four decades occurred in 1994, 1997, and 2019 and caused severe social-economic impacts in the Indian Ocean (IO) rim countries. These three strongest positive pIOD events exhibited similar oceanic and atmospheric anomaly patterns during their mature phase, though with different physical origins. The extreme amplitudes of these pIOD events were closely related to concurrent El Niño or Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) activity. For the 1997 extreme pIOD case, the concurrent extreme El Niño in the Pacific triggered strong easterly wind anomalies over the equatorial IO and therefore favored the rapid growth of the pIOD via intense upwelling along the Sumatra-Java coast. In contrast, the long stalled MJO convective anomalies over the western IO exerted an important role in the 2019 extreme pIOD event especially during September–October by causing easterly anomalies over the equatorial IO. During that year, the Pacific moderate warming had likely a small impact since no strong associated convection was present over the western and central equatorial Pacific due to the small amplitude of the Pacific sea surface temperature anomalies. Different from the 1997 and 2019 cases, both El Niño conditions in the Pacific as well as MJO activity over the western IO contributed to the 1994 extreme pIOD event. In order to further improve the identification efficiency of tobacco mildew, a rapid identification model of tobacco mildew based on random forest algorithm was proposed in this study. In order to ensure the feasibility and pertinence of the model study, this study takes redried leaf tobacco as the research object, selects high-temperature and high-humidity environment as the experimental conditions, and obtains the sample data of the degree of tobacco mildew under different experimental conditions. At the same time, this paper constructs a rapid identification model of tobacco mildew with the help of random forest algorithm. Through the model experimental results, it is found that the accuracy of the model for the rapid identification of training samples can reach 93.82%, while the accuracy of independent testing is 94.84%. Drying is the key process through which the aroma of tencha forms. However, the effects of drying method on volatiles are unknown. We compared tencha‐ro drying with regular drying. Volatiles in tencha infusions were extracted using headspace solid‐phase microextraction and solvent‐assisted flavor evaporation combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Partial least squares (PLS), odor activity value (OAV), and heat map analyses were performed to identify the optimal drying method for creating a seaweed‐like aroma. Changes in the key volatile compounds of the samples were investigated. The tencha infusions contained 125 volatiles with nine chemical structures. According to the sensory evaluation, tencha‐ro drying was the optimal method for producing high‐quality tencha with an intense and consistent seaweed‐like aroma. The PLS model accurately distinguished among the types of tencha. By combining OAVs with screening through multivariate statistical analysis, six volatile compounds were revealed to contribute substantially to tencha's seaweed‐like aroma: 2‐ethyl‐3,5‐dimethylpyrazine, 2‐ethyl‐6‐methylpyrazine, 2‐ethyl‐5‐methylpyrazine, dimethyl sulfide, β‐ionone, and 2‐formyl‐1‐methylpyrrole. The findings provide a theoretical basis and technical guidance for the processing of high‐quality tencha with a strong seaweed‐like aroma. Bathymetric simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) methods yield accurate navigation results for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and can construct consistent seabed terrain maps. Multiple independently working vehicles can complete tasks like surveying and mapping efficiently, which means cooperative bathymetric SLAM using multiple AUVs is suitable for large-scale seabed mapping. However, the transmission of bathymetric measurements collected using a multi-beam echo sounder over a low bandwidth, noisy, and unreliable acoustic channel is difficult, making cooperative bathymetric SLAM very challenging. This paper develops a graph-based cooperative bathymetric SLAM system that can compress many bathymetric measurements into small-scale acoustic packets and yield accurate navigation results with a 10% loss of acoustic packets caused by unreliable acoustic communication. According to the simulation conducted using the field data, the new algorithm is shown to be robust and capable of providing accurate location and mapping results over a low bandwidth, noisy, and unreliable acoustic channel. In this work, phosphate tailings (PTs) were used as raw materials for the preparation of Ca-Mg-Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs-1) and Ca-Mg-Al-Fe layered double hydroxides (LDHs-2) by co-precipitation method. The as-prepared samples were characterized by FT-IR, SEM, XRD, and XPS and applied as a flame retardant to improve the fire safety of epoxy resin (EP). The results showed that both LDHs-1 and LDHs-2 exhibited layered structure and high crystallinity. Compared with neat EP, the value of limiting oxygen index (LOI) increased from 25.8 to 29.3 and 29.9 with 8 wt% content of LDHs-1 and LDHs-2, respectively. The flame retardant properties of the composite material were characterized by cone calorimeter (CC), and the results showed that the peak value of the smoke production rate (SPR) decreased more than 45% and 74%, total smoke production (TSP) reduced nearly 64% and 85% with the addition of LDHs-1 and LDHs-2. Meanwhile, the value of the total heat release (THR) reduced more than 28% and 63%. The conversion from LDHs to layered double oxide (LDO) might be conducive to the fire safety of EP. Moreover, the transformation of Fe-OH to Fe-O could promote the early cross-linking of polymer. This study demonstrates the main physical mechanism for the maintenance of the western North Pacific (WNP) anomalous anticyclone (WNPAC) during the El Niño decaying summer by analyzing the respective effects of the cold sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the WNP, the warm SST anomalies in the Indian Ocean (IO), and the El Niño and Southern Oscillation (ENSO) combination mode. We find that the WNPAC is usually accompanied by significant cold WNP SST anomalies in the El Niño mature winter and following spring, which almost disappear in the decaying summer and cannot explain the maintenance of the WNPAC in summer. The influence of the IO warm SST anomalies on the WNPAC exhibits conspicuous decadal differences. Before the 2000s, the IO warm SST anomalies play a role in the WNPAC maintenance through the response of the baroclinic atmospheric Kelvin wave; however, this effect cannot be evidently detected after the 2000s. This decadal difference may be related to changes in the decaying speed of ENSO events. In contrast to El Niño events before the 2000s, El Niño events after the 2000s decay more rapidly, and the associated tropical central-eastern Pacific SST features a La Niña-like condition in the El Niño decaying summer. Concomitantly, no significant warm SST anomalies appear over the tropical Indian Ocean, exerting a weak influence on the WNPAC. Relative to the cold WNP SST anomalies and warm IO SST anomalies, the ENSO combination mode, originating from the nonlinear interaction between ENSO and the annual cycle, has a relatively more stable relationship with the WNPAC during the El Niño decaying summer, which exhibits a crucial role in the maintenance of the WNPAC. Considering the persistence of the ENSO combination mode, the WNPAC and associated climate variability during the El Niño decaying summer can be skillfully predicted at least one season in advance based on the ENSO combination mode. Terzaghi's consolidation theory neglects inertial effects on the consolidation of saturated soils. To quantify the inertial effects, in this paper an original one-dimensional small-strain consolidation wave (C-wave) theory is developed, based upon a proposed modified Darcy's law with relaxation time and the equation of motion for soil ensemble. The one-dimensional governing equations were first formulated for self-weight consolidation, followed by a closed-form solution employing the method of separation of variables. The proposed model was then validated against wave velocity measurements and verified against finite-difference analysis. The half-closed self-weight consolidation behaviour was subsequently investigated, compared with Terzaghi's theory, Fillunger–Heinrich's dynamic theory and the u–p form of Biot's wave theory. This research indicates that: (a) superior to conventional models under comparison, the C-wave model enhances the predictability of the C-wave velocity; (b) the dimensionless C-wave coefficient (Cw) dominates the fundamental consolidation behaviour; (c) a wave-diffusion duality underlying the consolidation mechanism contributes qualitatively to the spatial bottom-up pattern and temporal response delay in consolidation observations; and (d) Terzaghi's theory can afford a practically accurate solution provided the Cw and time factor are below and above approximately 0·01, respectively.
