INFORMATION processing , *PARALLEL processing - Abstract
In this paper, we propose a method that uses the idea of decoupling and unites edge information for semantic segmentation. We build a new dual-stream CNN architecture that fully considers the interaction between the body and the edge of the object, and our method significantly improves the segmentation performance of small objects and object boundaries. The dual-stream CNN architecture mainly consists of a body-stream module and an edge-stream module, which process the feature map of the segmented object into two parts with low coupling: body features and edge features. The body stream warps the image features by learning the flow-field offset, warps the body pixels toward object inner parts, completes the generation of the body features, and enhances the object's inner consistency. In the generation of edge features, the current state-of-the-art model processes information such as color, shape, and texture under a single network, which will ignore the recognition of important information. Our method separates the edge-processing branch in the network, i.e., the edge stream. The edge stream processes information in parallel with the body stream and effectively eliminates the noise of useless information by introducing a non-edge suppression layer to emphasize the importance of edge information. We validate our method on the large-scale public dataset Cityscapes, and our method greatly improves the segmentation performance of hard-to-segment objects and achieves state-of-the-art result. Notably, the method in this paper can achieve 82.6% mIoU on the Cityscapes with only fine-annotated data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HOMOVANILLIC acid , *LIQUID chromatography-mass spectrometry , *PRECIPITATION (Chemistry) , *NERVOUS system tumors , *CLINICAL medicine - Abstract
Neuroblastoma (NB), an embryonic tumor of the autonomous nervous system, poses a significant threat to the health and lives of children. Accurate measurement of vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) and homovanillic acid (HVA) in human urine is crucial for screening and diagnosis of NB. Although various laboratories have developed liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method to detect VMA and HVA, the comparability between the results obtained from different laboratories and methods was poor. The absence of reference method for VMA and HVA hinders the standardization of their measurements. Therefore, a candidate reference measurement procedure (cRMP) based on isotope dilution LC-MS/MS (ID-LC-MS/MS) for the detection of VMA and HVA in human urine was established. Urine samples were spiked with VMA-d3 and HVA-d5 as internal standards and extracted using a protein precipitation method. The cRMP exhibited desirable precision with the total imprecision below 5 %. The accuracy of this cRMP was demonstrated by the high analytical recovery (98.64 % - 102.22 % and 98.41 % - 100.97 % for VMA and HVA, respectively), and comparability between different reference systems. The limit of detection for HVA and VMA were 15.625 ng/mL and 3.906 ng/mL, respectively; the quantification limits were 62.5 ng/mL and 7.813 ng/mL, respectively, which can meet the clinical detection requirements. The linear range was from 78.125 ng/mL to 20 μg/mL. Specificity evaluations showed no corresponding interference from structurally similar analogs. In conclusion, we have established a cRMP based on ID-LC-MS/MS for the measurement of VMA and HVA in urine samples, demonstrating well-defined method performance including accuracy, precision, and specificity. This newly established cRMP is suitable for routine assay standardization and evaluation of clinical samples. Furthermore, this method has the potential to significantly enhance the diagnostic accuracy for neuroblastoma. • The cRMP has been developed for the measurement of urine HVA and VMA. • A multiple-site method comparison with clinical samples is presented. • The newly established cRMP displayed desirable method performance. • A Li 2 S-rich protective layer is in situ formed on Li foil by a spontaneous reaction. • Li 2 S can facilitate uniform and robust SEI formation, and realize stable Li anode. • Mo can reduce the overvoltage of the Li nucleation and guide Li deposition. • The batteries assembled with PCNF/MoS 2 -Li and cathodes show excellent performance. Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are favored due to their high energy densities. However, how to inhibit the growth of Li dendrites, slow down the volume expansion and realize the reversible utilization of Li anode are still big challenges for the practical feasibility. Herein, a pre-lithiated edge-enriched ultra-thin MoS 2 embedded carbon nanofiber (PCNF/MoS 2) framework was prepared as a protective layer to stablize Li metal anode, Mo and Li 2 S was in situ formed on the surface of Li foil by a facile spontaneous chemical reaction of MoS 2 and Li. Among them, Mo significantly reduces the overvoltage of the Li nucleation, achieves homogeneous Li plating/stripping, guides Li deposition in the cavity of three-dimensional (3D) framework, and thus inhibits the Li dendrites growth. More importantly, Li 2 S, as an effective additive, facilitates uniform and robust solid electrolyte interface (SEI) formation with excellent chemical stability and high ionic conductivity, which successfully realizes stable Li anode. Thereafter, the PCNF/MoS 2 -Li composite anode exhibits excellent long cycle life over 750 h at 1 mA cm−2 with a capacity of 1 mAh cm−2 in the symmetrical cell. In addition, when the PCNF/MoS 2 -Li composite anodes were paired with LiFePO 4 and LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 cathodes, the batteries delivered improved cycling stability and rate performance, providing a promising new avenue to achieve pratical LMBs. Millepachine, a bioactive natural product isolated from the seeds of Millettia pachycarpa, is reported to display potential antitumor activity. In this study, novel indole-containing hybrids derived from millepachine were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their antitumor activities. Among all the compounds, compound 14b exhibited the most potent cytotoxic activity against five kinds of human cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 0.022 to 0.074 μM, making it almost 100 times more active than millepachine. Valuable structure–activity relationships (SARs) were obtained. Furthermore, the mechanism studies showed that compound 14b induced cell-cycle arrest at the G2/M phase by inhibiting tubulin polymerization and further induced cell apoptosis through reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) collapse. In addition, the low cytotoxicity toward normal human cells and equivalent sensitivity towards drug-resistant cells of compound 14b highlighted its potential for the development of antitumor drugs. • The bio-inspired lotus root-like MCNFs are fabricated by electrospinning strategy. • The MCNF is used as a host for the Li metal anode by a thermal infusion strategy. • The 3D MCNF provides enough space for volume expansion of Li metal during cycling. • When coupled with a LiFePO 4 cathode, the MCNF/Li anode shows excellent performance. • The MCNF/Li anode has the potential to promote the practical application of LMBs. Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are generally regarded as one of the alternatives for high energy density devices. However, the commercial application of LMBs is seriously restricted by volume changes and dendrite behavior of lithium metal, which cause low efficiency and poor safety. In the present study, and inspired by the structure of the lotus root (which has many interior parallel channels that significantly enlarges the contact area), we have designed lotus root-like 3D multichannel carbon fibers (MCNFs) that are decorated with lithiophilic Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs). These adhered lithiophilic Ag nanoparticles will facilitate molten Li infusion into the carbon channels, forming stable lithium metal anodes. The ion concentration gradient near the surface Ag protrusions will become reduced, thereby inducing homogeneous nucleation and deposition of Li. The produced multi-channels will provide enough space for volume expansion of Li metal during cycling. As a result, when coupled with a LiFePO 4 (LFP) cathode, the MCNF/Ag-Li composite anode maintained 94.7% of its capacity, and 99.1% of the Coulombic efficiency after 600 cycles at 1 C. Moreover, the MCNF/Ag-Li|Li symmetrical cell could be cycled for more than 600 h, with a low hysteresis of 20 mV (at 1 mA cm−1), and with the capacity of 1 mAh cm−1 during the whole cycle (without any short-circuit). These results suggest that anodes, made of a lotus root-like 3D multichannel lithium metal composite material, will have the potential to promote the practical applications of lithium metal batteries. Inspired by the unique structure of the lotus root, we have, by using a thermal infusion strategy, successfully exploited a lotus root-like 3D MCNF as a stable host for the Li metal anode. The porous carbon fibers have the capacity to load a considerably amount of lithium and can also accommodate volume expansion (despite high specific surface area and large pore volume). This type of material will thereby offer an excellent balance between gravimetric and high energy densities. The carbon multi-channels are to be considered as "nanocages" for the Li metal, ensuring that Li will not be in direct contact with the electrolyte. When coupled with a LiFePO 4 cathode, the MCNF/Ag-Li composite anode maintained 94.7% of its capacity, and 99.1% of the Coulombic efficiency after 600 cycles at 1C. An electrochemically enabled tandem cyclization reaction of unsaturated sulfoximines with diselenides has been well developed, affording metal‐ and external oxidant‐free access to sulfoximidoyl‐based heterocycles containing selenium in moderate to good yields. With nBu4NBr as the role of catalyst and electrolyte, this methodology shows broad substrate scope and functional group tolerance under mild conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
