This article says that school libraries in the United States need to show stakeholders how library resources relate to the goals put forth in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). Doing this could help bring needed funds into the library for updating the collection. One of the goals of NCLB is to have all students proficient in reading and mathematics by 2013-2014. Studies show that quality school library programs, those that have adequate funding and resources and are staffed by a professional, can increase students' standardized test scores by 10-18 percent. Studies also show the key role that school librarians play in student achievement.

The first step towards collaborating with faculty of a school is through library open house in the United States. Teachers and staff will appreciate the attention and the chance to interact in a relaxed atmosphere instead of a stuffy in-service workshop. The goal is an experience that blends relaxation and fun with information and resources about you and your library program. Think of the open house as a way to expose faculty, staff, and administrators to what it is that you and your library program have to offer. Another important thing to do after the open house is promote your success. Place pictures and a brief article about the event in library and school newsletters, or post them on the school's web site. This shows parents, community members, and faculty who couldn't attend the event the positive things that are going on in your library.

YALSA is devoted to advocate, promote and strengthen service to young adults as part of the continuum of total library service. It will celebrate its second annual Teen Tech Week on March 2 to 8, 2008. On October 12 to 18, 2008, YALSA will hold its 11th annual Teen Read Week. YALSA and the American Library Association's (ALA) Reference and Users Services Association jointly created guidelines to offer reference services to teens.
