CONTENT analysis , *CURRICULUM - Abstract
The purpose of this research is to determine the trend of published research by conducting content analysis of research on the primary school Turkish course curriculum. The data obtained was analyzed using the descriptive scanning model. In accordance with this purpose, articles, papers, doctoral and postgraduate theses written between 2008 and 2022 were used. The data obtained from the 45 studies that made up the sample were interpreted according to frequency and percentage and shown in figures and tables. By content analysis of the research; A total of seven variables were examined under the headings of publication type, publication date, year of the program examined, research method, research sample, data collection method and data analysis, and distribution of the program elements. In this context, a data collection form was prepared and the findings for a total of seven research questions were discussed. It is seen that more than half of the studies consist of research articles. According to the data obtained, it is seen that most of the research was conducted in 2008. It is seen that the most studies were conducted with the 2005 curriculum and the least with the 2017 curriculum. In five studies, program years were compared. It is seen that 30 of the studies were conducted in accordance with qualitative research, 6 of them were mixed method, and 9 of them were conducted in accordance with quantitative research. When the research designs are examined; It was concluded that 31 descriptive studies and 14 case studies were preferred. Document review and interviews were mostly used in the studies. Most of the studies examined were conducted with classroom teachers. According to the results obtained from this research, it is recommended to organize the Turkish course curriculum. The textbook evaluation has appealed to the interests of the researchers in various contexts, and numerous studies have been conducted on this specific issue. The review of available literature on textbook evaluation, especially the ones held in the Turkish context, revealed that most of the studies did not follow a theoretical framework for their textbook evaluations. Additionally, it is observed that some studies were conducted employing document and content analysis techniques without a robust conceptual framework, or they have evaluated the textbooks through the views of teachers, students, and parents using a checklist developed by researchers for textbook evaluation. It is a fact that evaluating the textbooks without a theoretical framework might violate the reliability and validity of the reached decisions. Thus, the present paper intends to review the frequently employed textbook evaluation approaches in the literature and provide some background knowledge to its readers, especially to the teachers, researchers, and pre-service teachers who are interested in the textbook evaluation approaches. POSTAGE stamps , *PUBLIC opinion , *POLITICAL systems , *SOCIAL change , *GULEN movement ,WESTERN countries - Abstract
The Republic of Turkey was an ambitious project aimed at creating a new culture and a new society alongside a new political system. This enormous project of transformation brought with it radical changes in all aspects of economic, political, cultural and social life. The preservation of these massive social changes was just important as their introduction. Therefore, Mustafa Kemal, the founding leader of the new nationstate, and his colleagues (who were trying to create a Western and modern country), attached great importance to explaining the transformation they designed in the form of cultural and legal modernization, to their people and the world public opinion. Every aspect of life was directly affected by this process of change and was at the same time utilized to promote further changes. Postage stamps are one of the tools that reflect social change as they can enter every house due to their widespread circulation and collectible quality. Stamps are important for countries as "small representatives" and "paper ambassadors" used to promote cultural heritage. This article deals with how the founding elite of the early Republican period used stamps as tiny representatives in explaining to the public and to the whole world the massive transformation that the country was going through. I analyze the stamps issued in Turkey between 1923 and 1938 using the content analysis method. This research has revealed that the subjects covered in the postage stamps were structured around the following four main themes: the Western, modern and liberating leader figure; a historical consciousness based on the nation's Central Asian Turkish origins and the ancient civilizations in Anatolia; the perspective of the new Turkish state on women and the place of women in social life; and the heavy industry move in the economic field and agricultural modernization. Thus, this fifteen-year process, which had the characteristics of a laboratory with the moments of radical ruptures in the usual flow of life, has gained a new and unique evaluation through a different medium. MIDDLE school teachers , *MATHEMATICS education (Middle school) , *TEACHER education , *MATHEMATICS software , *CONTENT analysis - Abstract
This study aimed to investigate prospective middle school mathematics teachers' geometric constructions and justifications to verify their constructions when they used compass-straightedge. In addition, it was examined that what prospective teachers noticed about geometric constructions in a classroom discussion where dynamic mathematics software (GeoGebra) was used. A total of 68 prospective teachers from middle school mathematics teacher education program participated to the study. Data were obtained by qualitative research ways such as written papers, reflective notes, and classroom discussions. The data were analyzed based on content analysis. The results showed that prospective teachers used four different methods in appropriate parallelism constructions such as perpendicular lines, angle copying, equilateral triangles and rhombus methods. Another important result was that more than half of the prospective teachers did not achieve the appropriate geometric constructions because they made incorrect assumptions in the geometric constructions. Finally, prospective teachers noticed following issues in GeoGebra-supported classroom discussions: (a) alternative construction methods, (b) the necessity of providing solid foundations, (c) the effect of incorrect assumptions in geometric constructions and (d) different roles of dynamic geometry software and compass-straightedge in the process of geometric constructions and justifications. COLD War, 1945-1991 , *CONTENT analysis , *PRIME ministers , *NEGOTIATION , *WEAPONS ,FOREIGN relations of Turkey - Abstract
The official visit to Turkey of the Soviet Premier Aleksey Nikolayevich Kosygin was important in terms of reviving relations between the two countries during the Cold War period. The visit of the Premier Kosygin and of the accompanying Soviet delegation, held in 20-27 December 1966, found extensive coverage in the Turkish press. The focal point of the talks was the relations between the two countries and the problems related to the international agenda. In particular, Czechoslovakia's sale of weapons, a Soviet ally, to the Greek Cypriot leader Makarios, and the solution of the Cyprus problem were some of the main topics of the negotiations. Despite certain disagreements on international issues, the visit of the Soviet Premier, in the Cold War conjuncture, played a role in the revitalization of bilateral relations. The Turkish Press followed with great interest the Premier Kosygin's visit to Turkey. Utilising the coverage of mainstream newspapers like Cumhuriyet, Ulus, Tercüman, Akşam, Dünya, Yeni Tanin and Vatan, the paper used the content analysis method to evaluate the reflections of the visit. This paper aims at analyzing the content of Turkish Geography Discussion List (TGDL) which was an electronic e-mail list that functioned between 1997 and 2012 and completed an important mission as the medium of the diffusion of new geographic information and ideas. The TGDL was established by the author in the United States. Some 4000 e-mail messages were exchanged through the list and geographical ideas were discussed intensely for the first time. Therefore, it is necessary to portray the historical mission of the List that is more evident today. For that purpose, the list archive was analyzed, the main discussion areas were categorized and a content analysis was performed to identify the cognitive dimension of the list. The results show that many topics, new concepts, ideas and terms in geography were heard for the first time by Turkish geographers through the list during the 15 year period. Members with overseas experience and young members talked more about theoretical, institutional, methodological and technological issues while the others took a more cautious position and talked more about representation, class hours in schools, and employability issues.
