The indiscriminate use of antimicrobials has led to the emergence of resistant bacteria, especially pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli , which are associated with diseases in animals and humans. The aim of the present study was to characterize E. coli isolates in calves with regards to the presence of virulence genes and investigate the resistance of the isolates to different antimicrobials. Between 2021 and 2023, 456 fecal samples were collected from calves in the Pantanal and Cerrado biomes of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. All samples were subjected to microbiological analysis and disc diffusion antibiogram testing. The polymerase chain reaction method was used to detect virulence genes. Bacterial growth was found in 451 of the 456 samples and biochemically identified as Escherichia coli. All 451 isolates (100 %) exhibited some phenotypic resistance to antimicrobials and 67.62 % exhibited multidrug resistance. The frequency of multidrug-resistant isolates in the Cerrado biome was significantly higher than that in the Pantanal biome (p = 0.0001). In the Cerrado , the most common pathotype was Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) (28 %), followed by toxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) (11 %), enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) (8 %) and enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) (2 %). In most cases, the concomitant occurrence of pathotypes was more common, the most frequent of which were ETEC + STEC (33 %), ETEC + EHEC (15 %) and ETEC + EPEC (3 %). The STEC pathotype (30 %) was also found more frequently in the Pantanal , followed by EHEC (12 %), ETEC (9 %) and EPEC (6 %). The STEC pathotype had a significantly higher frequency of multidrug resistance (p = 0.0486) compared to the other pathotypes identified. The frequency of resistance was lower in strains from the Pantanal biome compared to those from the Cerrado biome. The unprecedented worldwide spread of the Citrus greening disorder, called Huanglongbing (HLB), has urged researchers for rapid interventions. HLB poses a considerable threat to global citriculture owing to its devastating impact on citrus species. This disease is caused by Candidatus Liberibacter species (CLs), primarily transferred through psyllid insects, such as Trioza erytreae and Diaphorina citri. It results in phloem malfunction, root decline, and altered plant source-sink relationships, leading to a deficient plant with minimal yield before it dies. Thus, many various techniques have been employed to eliminate HLB and control vector populations through the application of insecticides and antimicrobials. The latter have evidenced short-term efficiency. While nucleic acid-based analyses and symptom-based identification of the disease have been used for detection, they suffer from limitations such as false negatives, complex sample preparation, and high costs. To address these challenges, secreted protein-based biomarkers offer a promising solution for accurate, rapid, and cost-effective disease detection. This paper presents an overview of HLB symptoms in citrus plants, including leaf and fruit symptoms, as well as whole tree symptoms. The differentiation between HLB symptoms and those of nutrient deficiencies is discussed, emphasizing the importance of precise identification for effective disease management. The elusive nature of CLs and the challenges in culturing them in axenic cultures have hindered the understanding of their pathogenic mechanisms. However, genome sequencing has provided insights into CLs strains' metabolic traits and potential virulence factors. Efforts to identify potential host target genes for resistance are discussed, and a high-throughput antimicrobial testing method using Citrus hairy roots is introduced as a promising tool for rapid assessment of potential treatments. This review summarizes current challenges and novel therapies for HLB disease. It highlights the urgency of developing accurate and efficient detection methods and identifying the complex relations between CLs and their host plants. Transgenic citrus in conjunction with secreted protein-based biomarkers and innovative testing methodologies could revolutionize HLB management strategies toward achieving a sustainable citrus cultivation. The intestinal and respiratory tracts of healthy individuals serve as habitats for a diverse array of microorganisms, among which Klebsiella oxytoca holds significance as a causative agent in numerous community- and hospital-acquired infections, often manifesting in polymicrobial contexts. In specific circumstances, K. oxytoca , alongside other constituents of the gut microbiota, undergoes translocation to distinct physiological niches. In these new environments, it engages in close interactions with other microbial community members. As this interaction may progress to co-infection where the virulence of involved pathogens may be promoted and enhance disease severity, we investigated how K. oxytoca affects the adhesion of commonly co-isolated bacteria and vice versa during co-incubation of different biotic and abiotic surfaces. Co-incubation was beneficial for the adhesion of at least one of the two co-cultured strains. K. oxytoca enhanced the adhesion of other enterobacteria strains to polystyrene and adhered more efficiently to bladder or lung epithelial cell lines in the presence of most enterobacteria strains and S. aureus. This effect was accompanied by bacterial coaggregation mediated by carbohydrate-protein interactions occurring between bacteria. These interactions occur only in sessile, but not planktonic populations, and depend on the features of the surface. The data are of particular importance for the risk assessment of the urinary and respiratory tract infections caused by K. oxytoca , including those device-associated. This research paper presents a novel approach to the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using viticultural waste, allowing to obtain NP dispersions with distinct properties and morphologies (monodisperse and polydisperse AgNPs, referred to as mAgNPs and pAgNPs) and to compare their biological activities. Our synthesis method utilized the ethanolic extract of Vitis vinifera pruning residues, resulting in the production of mAgNPs and pAgNPs with average sizes of 12 ± 5 nm and 19 ± 14 nm, respectively. Both these AgNPs preparations demonstrated an exceptional stability in terms of size distribution, which was maintained for one year. Antimicrobial testing revealed that both types of AgNPs inhibited either the growth of planktonic cells or the metabolic activity of biofilm sessile cells in Gram-negative bacteria and yeasts. No comparable activity was found towards Gram-positives. Overall, pAgNPs exhibited a higher antimicrobial efficacy compared to their monodisperse counterparts, suggesting that their size and shape may provide a broader spectrum of interactions with target cells. Both AgNP preparations showed no cytotoxicity towards a human keratinocyte cell line. Furthermore, in vivo tests using a silkworm animal model indicated the biocompatibility of the phytosynthesized AgNPs, as they had no adverse effects on insect larvae viability. The world has witnessed the cruelty of COVID-19 disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The association of COVID-19 with other secondary and bacterial co-infections has tremendously contributed to lung infections. An increased probability of having a secondary lung infection was observed among the post-COVID patients. The treatment of antibiotics has ameliorated the mortality rate. However, the stewardship of antibiotic treatment was linked to increased organ failure. In this study, we investigated the antibacterial mechanism of forsythoside A against the kiwifruit canker pathogen, which provided the theoretical basis for the prevention and control of canker disease and the development of plant-based fungicides. The pathogenic bacteria were isolated from kiwifruit diseased tissues and the specific primers Psa_A1 F2 and Psa_A1 R1 were used for preliminary identification. Four pairs of housekeeping genes, including gapA, gltA, gyrB, and rpoD, were used for polygenic typing identification. The inhibition effect of forsythoside A on Psa was evaluated by the filter paper bacteriostasis method. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of Psa were determined by the 96-well plate absorbance and colony counts. The changes in Psa biofilm formation, motility, IAA synthesis, iron utilization, and respiratory chain dehydrogenase activity were determined. The Psa morphology was observed by Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The expression of some virulence genes was analyzed by qPCR. The results showed that the pathogen was Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa). The inhibitory effect of forsythoside A on Psa was positively correlated with its concentration. while the MIC and MBC were 2.0 and 5.0 mg/mL, respectively. The biofilm formation and motility of Psa were not only obviously inhibited, but also the substance and energy metabolism were interfered, while obvious deformity and rupture of the cells were occurred in Psa Bacteria. In addition, The transcription of the Psa pathogenic genes was affected. The infection investigation of kiwifruit leaves indicated that forsythiaside A inhibits Psa pathogenicity and had a protective effect. This study concluded that forsythoside A has a certain control effect on kiwifruit canker, and has the potentiality to be developed as a novel plant fungicide. Antibiotics play an important role in the treatment of infectious diseases. Long-term overuse or misuse of antibiotics, however, has triggered the global crisis of antibiotic resistance, bringing challenges to treating clinical infection. Bacteriophages (phages) are the viruses infecting bacterial cells. Due to high host specificity, high bactericidal activity, and good biosafety, phages have been used as natural alternative antibacterial agents to fight against multiple drug-resistant bacteria. Enterococcus faecalis is the main species detected in secondary persistent infection caused by failure of root canal therapy. Due to strong tolerance and the formation of biofilm, E. faecalis can survive the changes in pH, temperature, and osmotic pressure in the mouth and thus is one of the main causes of periapical lesions. This paper summarizes the advantages of phage therapy, its applications in treating oral diseases caused by E. faecalis infections, and the challenges it faces. Nanomaterials containing tungsten (TNMs), characterized by diverse nanostructures had been extensively used in biomedical sector. Despite numerous reports focusing on TNM applications in specific biomedical areas, there is a noticeable absence of comprehensive studies that focused on detailed characterization of nanomaterials along with their biological applications. The present work described the structural, morphological, and antimicrobial properties of tungsten oxide (WO 3) nanoparticles coated by antibiotics (nanobiotics), and their application on single and mixed bacterial culture. The nanobiotics included in this study were WO 3 coated with ampicillin (W+A), WO 3 coated with penicillin (P+W), and WO 3 coated with ciprofloxacin (C+W). Techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Rrman spectroscopy, and UV–visible spectroscopy were used to characterize synthesized nanoparticles. The minimum inhibitory concentration of C+W nanobiotic against S. aureus , E. coli , and mixed culture (S. aureus + E. coli) was lower than that of P+W and A+W. The impact of incubation period showed significant differences for each of nanobiotic against S. aureus , E. coli , and mixed culture. However, there were also non-significant differences among incubation periods for antibacterial activity of nanobiotics. It was pertinent to note that percentage variation in susceptibility of S. aureus with respect to mixed culture remained higher as compared to E. coli, indicating it stronger candidate imposing resistance. This paper thus suggested the strategy of coating of antibiotics with with WO 3 nanoparticles as an ideal combination for resistance modulation against single and mixed culture bacteria. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that primarily affects the joints. Individuals at risk for RA and people with RA develop intestinal dysbiosis. The changes in intestinal flora composition in preclinical and confirmed RA patients suggest that intestinal flora imbalance may play an important role in the induction and persistence of RA. Based on the current research on the interaction between RA and intestinal microbiota, intestinal microbiota metabolites and intestinal barrier changes. This paper systematically summarized the changes in intestinal microbiota in RA patients, the metabolites of intestinal flora, and the influence mechanism of intestinal barrier on RA, and further discussed the influence of drugs for RA on intestinal flora and its mechanism of action. Compared with healthy controls, α diversity analysis of intestinal flora showed no significant difference, β diversity analysis showed significant differences. The intestinal flora produces bioactive metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids and aromatic amino acids, which have anti-inflammatory effects. Abnormal intestinal flora leads to impaired barrier function and mucosal immune dysfunction, promoting the development of inflammation. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and chemical drugs can also alleviate RA by regulating intestinal flora, intestinal flora metabolites, and intestinal barrier. Intestinal flora is closely related to the pathogenesis of RA and may become potential biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of RA. Myxozoans are obligate endoparasites, cosmopolitan in distribution with both vertebrate and invertebrate hosts. Their myxospores consist of shell valves, polar capsules with coiled polar tubules that are extrudible, and infective amoeboid germs. Myxozoan parasites are most abundant, and due to their increasing number in recent years, they can pose an emerging threat to the fish industry worldwide. Hence, the immediate need is to devise a strategy to understand and detect parasites and parasitism. They may proliferate to different organs with the advancement of infection. This all warrants the development/devising of strategies and results of integrative studies in order to identify these dreadful parasites and resolve taxonomic issues. Different methods whether classical methods including gross morphology or advanced methods such as electron microscopy (SEM, TEM, STEM), Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), histopathological studies, site preference, host and tissue specificity, a molecular approach using new markers can be clubbed for identification because these parasites are hidden and are difficult to recognize. Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a re-emerging viral haemorrhagic fever causing outbreaks in Iran in the last 15 years. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the status of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) in ticks would be evaluated. PubMed, Google Scholar and Web of Science were searched for peer-reviewed original papers published between 2000 and 1 July 2022. We included papers that evaluated the prevalence of CCHFV in individual ticks using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The pooled prevalence of CCHFV was 6.0% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.5–7.9%), with heterogeneity (I2 = 82.706; P < 0.0001). The prevalence of CCHFV was higher related to regions with above sea level of 1001–1500m (6.4%; 95% CI: 4.3–9.5%), an average temperature of ≤15 °C (8.3%; 95% CI: 5.6–12.0%), latitude of ≥36° (8.1%; 95% CI: 5.2–12.3%), an annual rainfall of 101–300 mm (9.8%; 95% CI: 6.1–15.4%) and humidity of ≥61% (10.2%; 95% CI: 5.1–19.3%). Abstract In the present work two key regulator proteins, monomeric MipZ of Caulobacter vibrioides (similar to Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Pyruvate kinase of Staphylococcus aureus were docked with curcumin, the wonder molecule from the spice turmeric and structures of its twelve analogues were designed, synthesized and tested in-vitro for antibacterial activity. Over 250 species of resident flora in the class of bacteria are known to be associated with humans. These conventional flora compositions is often determined by factors which may not be limited to genetics, age, sex, stress and nutrition of humans. Man is constantly in contact with bacteria through media such as air, water, soil and food. This paper reviews the concept of bacterial pathogenesis from the sequential point of colonization to tissue injury. The paper in addition to examination of the factors which enhance virulence in bacterial pathogens also x-rayed the concept of pathogenicity islands and the next generation approaches or rather current trends/methods used in the bacterial pathogenicity investigations. In terms of pathogenicity which of course is the capacity to cause disease in animals, requires that the attacking bacterial strain is virulent, and has ability to bypass the host immune defensive mechanisms. In order to achieve or exhibit pathogenicity, the virulence factors required by microorganisms include capsule, pigments, enzymes, iron acquisition through siderophores. Bacterial Pathogenicity Islands as a distinct concept in bacterial pathogenesis are just loci on the chromosome or extra chromosomal units which are acquired by horizontal gene transfer within pathogens in a microbial community or biofilm. In the area of laboratory investigations, bacterial pathogenesis was initially carried out using culture dependent approaches, which can only detect about 1% of human and veterinary-important pathogens. Context Hepatitis E virus (HEV) as a hepatotropic virus is one of the major global health concerns. Autochthonous HEV transmitted by oral fecal-route in poor sanitation conditions as well as vertical and rarely blood transfusion. HEV occurrence is more common in developing countries and recently increased in developed countries too. Middle East (ME) and Eastern Mediterranean region (EMR) of WHO have been an endemic region for HEV infection. In this regard, we aimed to design a systematic review and pooled analysis to determine seroprevalence of anti-HEV antibody in ME and EMR countries. Evidence acquisition By using PRISMA guideline, data were collected from papers identified through PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, Scopus and also from some national and regional databases from January 1990 to June 2016. Serum anti-HEV antibody (IgG) used for HEV prevalence estimation. HEV prevalence in the ME, WHO EMR countries, and in total, calculated by each country population size based on 2015 UN report. Results overall, 62 papers with a total sample size of 31,673 were fulfilled our eligibility criteria and included in our project. Considering anti-HEV antibody (IgG), prevalence of HEV infection in the countries of ME, WHO EMR and in total were 12.17% (95% CI: 11.79–12.57), 11.81% (95% CI: 11.43–12.21), and 11.87% (95% CI: 11.52–12.23) respectively. Conclusions HEV seroprevalence in WHO EMR and ME countries has high rate and more considerations are needed for the prevention and control of this infection especially in high-risk groups such as pregnant women. Actinobacteria are gram-positive bacteria with high G:C ratio in their genetic makeup. They have been noted and studied for their capacity to produce bioactive substances with a range of uses in human health, and they also exhibit a unique property of adapting to extreme environments quite well. Actinobacteria may play an essential role in cancer prevention and treatment due to their synthesis of anticancer compounds, as indicated by recent studies. The aim of this review is to give a summary of what is currently known about the connection between actinobacteria and different types of cancer. This paper delineates the diverse array of actinobacterial bioactive compounds possessing anticancer properties, elucidates their mechanisms of action and explores potential applications in cancer treatment. Furthermore, this review highlights how the microbiome influences the onset and progression of cancer, as well as the discussing the potential benefits that actinobacteria may bring in terms of controlling the microbiome and contributing to the regulation of the tumour microenvironment to cure or prevent cancer. Transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), which belongs to the coronaviruses (CoVs), causes diarrhea and high mortality rates in piglets and poses a huge threat and loss to the pig industry in China. We estimated the prevalence of TGEV in Chinese pig animals from 1983 to 2022 by screening 36 papers on TGEV investigations in China from databases such as China Knowledge Network (CNKI), Wanfang Database, Science and Technology Journal Repository (VIP), PubMed, and ScienceDirect, excluding duplicate literature and other host studies according to the exclusion criteria we developed, and excluding literature with incomplete data to extract information from studies that could estimate the prevalence of TGEV infection in pigs in mainland China. A total of 36 studies (including data from 50,403 pigs) met our evaluation criteria. The overall estimated prevalence of TGEV infection in pigs in China is 10% (3887/50403), and the prevalence of TGEV in northeast China is 38% (2582/3078700) is significantly higher than the rest of China. The prevalence of TGEV infection was related to the sampling season and region. The results of the study show that the prevalence of TGEV is clearly seasonal and regional. Therefore, further research and monitoring of the prevalence of TGEV infection and the development of control programs based on different conditions are essential. Epigenetics, a field of study focused on cellular gene regulation independent of DNA sequence alterations, encompasses DNA methylation, histone modification and microRNA modification. Epigenetics processes play a pivotal role in governing the life cycles of viruses, enabling their transmission, persistence, and maintenance with in host organisms. This review examines the epigenetics regulation of diverse virus including orthomoxyviruses, coronavirus, retroviridae, mononegavirales, and poxviruses among others. The investigation encompasses ten representative viruses from these families. Detailed exploration of the epigenetic mechanisms underlying each virus type, involving miRNA modification, histone modification and DNA methylation, sheds light on the intricate and multifaceted epigenetic interplay between viruses and their hosts. Furthermore, this review investigates the influence of these epigenetic processes on infection cycles, emphasizing the utilization of epigenetics by viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus and Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) to regulate gene expression during chronic or latent infections, control latency, and transition to lytic infection. To evaluate the potential of Myricetin against S.aureus induced osteomyelitis. Osteomyelitis is infected condition of bone by micro-organisms. The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), inflammatory cytokines and Toll-like receptor-2 (TLR-2) pathway are mainly involved in osteomyelitis. Myricetin is a plant-food derived flavonoid which shows anti-inflammatory activity. In the present study, we evaluated the potential of Myricetin against S.aureus induced osteomyelitis. MC3T3-E1 cells were used for in vitro studies. Murine model of osteomyelitis was developed in BALB/c mice by injecting S.aureus in the medullary cavity of the femur. The mice were studied for bone destruction, anti-biofilm activity, osteoblast growth markers alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteopontin (OCN) and collagen type-I (COLL-1) were studied by RT-PCR, ELISA analysis for levels of proinflammatory factors CRP, IL-6 and IL-1 β. Expression of proteins by Western blot analysis and anti-biofilm effect by Sytox green dye fluorescence assay. Target confirmation was done by performing in silico docking analysis. Myricetin reduced bone destruction in osteomyelitis induced mice. The treatment decreased bone levels of ALP, OCN, COLL-1 and TLR2. Myricetin decreased serum levels of CRP, IL-6 and IL-1 β. The treatment suppressed activation of MAPK pathway and showed anti-biofilm effect. Docking studies suggested high binding affinity of Myricetin with MAPK protein in silico, by showing lower binding energies. Myricetin suppresses osteomyelitis by inhibiting ALP, OCN, COLL-1 via the TLR2 and MAPK pathway involving inhibition of biofilm formation. Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PED) is an acute, extremely infectious intestinal disease of pigs caused by the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea Virus (PEDV). The virus can affect pigs of all breeds and age groups and shows varying degrees of symptoms, with piglets, in particular, being infected with mortality rates of up to 100%. PEDV was first identified in China in the 1980s and in October 2010 a large-scale PED outbreak caused by a variant of PEDV occurred in China, resulting in huge economic losses. Initially, vaccination can effectively prevent the classical strain, but since December 2010, the PEDV variant has caused "persistent diarrhoea" with severe vomiting, watery diarrhoea, and high morbidity and mortality in newborn piglets as the dominant clinical features, with a significant increase in morbidity and mortality. This indicates that PEDV strains have mutated during evolution and that traditional vaccines no longer provide effective cross-immune protection, so it is necessary to optimize immunization programs and find effective treatments through epidemiological surveys of PEDV to reduce the economic losses caused by infections with mutated strains. Foodborne bacterial infections and diseases have been considered to be a major threat for public health in the worldwide. Increased incidence of human diseases caused by foodborne pathogens have been correlated with growing world population and mobility. Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) has been regarded as an innovative gene amplification technology and emerged as an alternative to PCR-based methodologies in both clinical laboratory and food safety testing. Nowadays, LAMP has been applied to detection and identification on pathogens from microbial diseases, as it showed significant advantage in high sensitivity, specificity and rapidity. The high sensitivity of LAMP enables detection of the pathogens in sample materials even without time consuming sample preparation. An overview of LAMP mainly containing the development history, reaction principle and its application to four kind of foodborne pathogens detection are presented in this paper. As concluded, with the advantages of rapidity, simplicity, sensitivity, specificity and robustness, LAMP is capable of applications for clinical diagnosis as well as surveillance of infection diseases. Bovine rotavirus is the primary pathogen causing diarrhea in cattle and can be transmitted vertically through the placenta. It mainly presents with clinical signs such as depression, loss of appetite, diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess the prevalence of BRV infection in mainland China. We conducted a literature search on the prevalence of BRV infection in pigs between Jan 1, 1979 and Dec 31, 2021 in English and Chinese databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane library, Clinical Trials, VIP, CNKI, and WanFang database. Selections were made based on the title and the abstract of the paper, Search strings included if they reported the cattle samples of more than 15 cattle and provided information that allowed us to establish the prevalence of BRV. Moreover, we excluded repeated studies, reviews, other hosts. Finally, we extracted the number of cattle with BRV infection from the obtained studies and provided information that permitted us to estimate the prevalence of BRV infection in cattle in mainland China. The data of 29 articles (including data on 10677 cattle) are compliant with the standards. The pooled prevalence of BRV in cattle in China was 46%（6635/10677）, the pooled prevalence of BRV in cattle from Northeast China (40%) was significantly lower than those from other regions. In addition, the prevalence of BRV was associated with publication time of paper, detection methods, age of cattle, and clinical symptoms（diarrhea, etc.). Our findings suggest that BRV infection is common among cattle in China. It is, therefore, necessary to carry out further research and monitor the prevalence of BRV infection. Psychrophilic bacteria are a type of microorganisms that normally grow in low-temperature environments. They are usually found in extremely cold environments. However, as people's demand for low-temperature storage of food becomes higher, psychrophilic bacteria have also begun to appear in cold storage and refrigerators, which has become a food safety hazard. In this paper, the optimal cooling strategies of psychrophilic bacteria are reviewed from the aspects of the cell membrane, psychrophilic enzymes, antifreeze proteins, cold shock proteins, gene regulation, metabolic levels and antifreeze agents, and the principle of psychrophilic mechanism is briefly described. The application of thermophilic bacteria and its products adapted to cold environments in food fields are analyzed. The purpose of this paper is to provide ideas for future research on psychrophilic bacteria based on the mechanism and application of psychrophilic bacteria. Abstract Background Porcine epidemic diarrhea results from infection with porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). It is an acute and highly contagious enteric disease in swine characterized by watery diarrhea and vomiting. Here, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis in order to assess the prevalence of PEDV infection in pig populations from mainland China. Methods We conducted a literature search on the prevalence of PEDV infection in pigs between Jan 1, 1988 and Aug 20, 2018 in English and Chinese databases, including PubMed, Google scholar, Cochrane library, Clinical Trials, VIP, CNKI and WanFang database. Selections were made based on the title and the abstract of paper, and duplicated literature was excluded along with other host studies, and data incomplete literature according to the exclusion criteria we formulated. Finally, we extracted the number of swine with PEDV infection from the obtained studies and provided information that permitted us to estimate the prevalence of PEDV infection in pigs in mainland China. Results A total of 45 studies (including data from 15,990 pigs) met our evaluation criteria. In China, the overall estimated prevalence of PEDV infection in pigs was 44% (7113/15,990), while the estimated prevalence of PEDV infection in pigs from northern China was 37% (793/2136), lower than those in other regions of China. The prevalence of PEDV infection was associated with sampling season, category of pigs and clinical signs (diarrhea) in pigs. However, the prevalence of PEDV among pigs in China was not significantly associated with the effect of detected target genes, nor was it associated with date of study publication. Conclusion Our findings suggest that PEDV infection is common among pigs in China. It is therefore necessary to carry out further research and monitor the prevalence of PEDV infection. Furthermore, powerful and effective regulatory measures should be taken in order to prevent the transmission and spread of PEDV among pig populations. Abstract In this paper, the self assembling properties of taurolipids were used to prepare stable copper nanoparticles (CuNPs), and demonstrated the ability of CuNPs to eradicate the biofilms formed by waterborne pathogens. The synthesized CuNPs display wine red color and exhibited surface plasmon resonance with a maximum at 590 nm. Transmission electron microscopy showed that the CuNPs are well-dispersed with spherical morphology and the size range between 5 and 12 nm. The powder X-ray diffraction study revealed that the CuNPs was free from copper oxide impurities and crystalline with the face centered cubic structure. The CuNPs exhibited excellent anti-biofilm activity against water borne pathogens such as Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Salmonella typhi , and Shigella flexneri. Light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study revealed that CuNPs eliminates the mature biofilm at the minimum biofilm eradication concentration of 12.5 μM. The antimicrobial activity of the CuNPs was observed at the minimum inhibitory concentration of 25 μM, indicating the reported CuNPs exhibit true anti-biofilm effect. Fluorescence microscopy and SEM study proved that CuNPs kills the bacteria through membrane damage. The possibility to use CuNPs in cleaning biofilm formed on storage containers was demonstrated through removing the mature biofilm formed on a glass pipe. Abstract GAPDH being a key enzyme in the glycolytic pathway is one of the surface adhesins of many Gram-positive bacteria including Streptococcus agalactiae. This anchorless adhesin is known to bind to host plasminogen (PLG) and fibrinogen (Fg), which enhances the virulence and modulates the host immune system. The crystal structure of the recombinant GAPDH from S. agalactiae (Sag GAPDH) was determined at 2.6 Å resolution by molecular replacement. The structure was found to be highly conserved with a typical NAD binding domain and a catalytic domain. In this paper, using biolayer interferometry studies, we report that the multifunctional Sag GAPDH enzyme binds to a variety of host molecules such as PLG, Fg, laminin, transferrin and mucin with a K D value of 4.4 × 10−7 M, 9.8 × 10−7 M, 1 × 10−5 M, 9.7 × 10−12 M and 1.4 × 10−7 M respectively. The ligand affinity blots reveal that Sag GAPDH binds specifically to α and β subunits of Fg and the competitive binding ELISA assay reveals that the Fg and PLG binding sites on GAPDH does not overlap each other. The PLG binding motif of GAPDH varies with organisms, however positively charged residues in the hydrophobic surroundings is essential for PLG binding. The lysine analogue competitive binding assay and lysine succinylation experiments deciphered the role of Sag GAPDH lysines in PLG binding. On structural comparison with S. pneumoniae GAPDH, K171 of Sag GAPDH is being predicted to be involved in PLG binding. Further Sag GAPDH exhibited enzymatic activity in the presence of Fg, PLG and transferrin. This suggests that these host molecules does not mask the active site and bind at some other region of GAPDH. Abstract At present, there is not any available accepted vaccine for prevention of Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) in human and animals. We conducted literature search through English (Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, EBSCO, ISI Web of Science) scientific paper databases to find the best vaccine candidates against toxoplasmosis among T. gondii antigens. Articles with information on infective stage, pathogenicity, immunogenicity and characterization of antigens were selected. We considered that the ideal and significant vaccines should include different antigens and been expressed in all infective stages of the parasite with a high pathogenicity and immunogenicity. Evaluation within this systematic review indicates that MIC 3, 4, 13, ROP 2, RON 5, GRA 1, 6, 8, 14 are expressed in all three infective stages and have pathogenicity and immunogenicity. MIC 5, ROM 4, GRA 2, 4, 15, ROP 5, 16, 17, 38, RON 4, MIC 1, GRA 10, 12, 16, SAG 3 are expressed in only tachyzoites and bradyzoites stages of T. gondii with pathogenicity/immunogenicity. Some antigens appeared to be expressed in a single stage (tachyzoites) but have high pathogenicity and induce immune response. They include enolase2 (ENO2), SAG 1, SAG5D, HSP 70, ROM 1, ROM 5, AMA 1, ROP 18, RON2 and GRA 24. In conclusion, current vaccination against T. gondii infection is not satisfactory, and with the increasing number of high-risk individuals, the development of an effective and safe specific vaccine is greatly valuable for toxoplasmosis prevention. Abstract Liver injury is an important cause of serious liver disease and is characterized by inflammatory and oxidative responses. Esculin, a coumarinic derivative found in Aesculus hippocastanum L. , has been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects. Here, we investigated the effects and molecular mechanism of esculin on Lipopolysaccharide/D-Galactosamine (LPS/D-Gal)-induced acute liver injury. A mouse model for acute liver injury was induced by intraperitoneal injection with D-Gal and LPS, and was assessed by histology, and serum transaminase analyses. The results showed that esculin significantly reduced the pathological symptoms of acute liver injury, as well as serum AST and ALT levels. LPS/D-Gal-induced liver myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) content were also suppressed by esculin. Furthermore, LPS/D-Gal-induced liver tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) production were attenuated by esculin. Our data demonstrate that esculin can inhibit nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activation as well as increase nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression. In conclusion, this paper demonstrates that esculin protects liver injury induced by LPS/D-Gal via inhibiting inflammatory and oxidative responses. Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a contagious disease in dogs that has high morbidity and mortality. In cases of infection, the pups tend to have a higher mortality and more severe clinical symptoms than the adult dogs because the dehydration is difficult for pups to bear. Following the natural infection, there is a rapid antibody response neutralizing the extracellular virus. As a result, virus titers in tissue and feces become markedly reduced. Hence, it is important to have an effective symptomatic therapy of supporting animals to survive in the early stages of CPV infection. Furthermore, the co-infection with bacteria could increase the severity of lesions and clinical signs as well. In this paper, we obtained the bacterial diversity in feces of CPV infected dogs with the enrichment of five bacteria genera ( Shigella, Peptoclostridium, Peptostreptococcus, Streptococcus, Fusobacterium ). These microorganisms may partly result in the intestinal pathology of the infection. In summary, the discussion of the bacterial biodiversity in feces of CPV infected dogs provides further insights into the pathology of CPV disease and the targets of developing more effective treatment strategies. The accelerative outgrowth of extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) producing Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and Proteus mirabilis ( P. mirabilis ) was mainly due to incessant relentless influence of antibiotics thereby increasing incidence and death rate which was obvious from the survey of ESBLs producing bacteria related health problem. In the present paper, we synthesized and characterized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) employing using Camellia japonica leaf extract, bactericidal action of these NPs against extended spectrum β lactamases (ESBLs) positive E. coli and P. mirabilis clinical strains owing the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) percentage 83, 81% at 100 μg/mL concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) final inhibiting concentration at 150 μg/mL. Moreover, confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) results evident for loss of viability, cell shrinkage, disarrangement of cell membrane, and cell wall lysis activity of ZnO NPs against ESBLs positive E. coli BDUMS3 (KY617770) and P. mirabilis BDUMS1 (KY617768) strains. From the results, it was observed that the biologically synthesized ZnO NPs has stronger antibacterial effect against ESBLs producing bacterial strains. Nevertheless, current date there is no reports of antibacterial activity of metal oxide (ZnO) NPs against ESBL producing gram negative bacteria. Consequently, this finding is the first report in this respect and it shows band gap energy and ROS accumulation to damage the cell wall and inhibit the growth of ESBL producing gram negative strains. The study aimed to investigate whether rutin affects the quorum sensing (QS) of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC). In this study, APEC-O78 was selected as the test strain. We mainly examined the effects of rutin on the AI-2 secretion by bioluminescence assay, biofilm formation through a crystal violet staining method, and expression of virulence genes of APEC by qRT-PCR. We found that rutin can significantly interfering with QS through reducing the secretion of AI-2, inhibited the biofilm formation, and reduced the expression of virulence genes of APEC. Moreover, rutin markedly decreased adhesion and damage of APEC to chicken type II pneumocytes. These results suggested rutin reduces cell damage of APEC-infected chicken type II pneumocytes through interfering with QS via decreasing AI-2 production, biofilm formation, and the expression of virulence genes. In this paper, we have reported the synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of antimicrobial and antioxidant potential of monodispersed Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles synthesized by the room temperature precipitation (aqueous phase) and polyol method (organic phase). ZnO nanoparticle synthesized by both the methods had shown excellent DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging, metal chelating (MC), ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis; 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid), hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical scavenging activity (SAS). Scavenging activities were assayed within a concentration range of 25–75 ng ml −1 . The antibacterial activities with MIC were investigated against two Gram-positive bacteria Streptococcus mutans (MTCC 497) and S. pyogens (MTCC 1926); three Gram negative bacteria Vibrio cholerae (MTCC 3906), Shigella flexneri (MTCC 1457) and Salmonella typhii (MTCC 1252). ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by the polyol method showed better MIC values against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as compared to particles synthesized by aqueous precipitation method. The main objective of the current study was to investigate the chemical composition of the essential oil of Artemisia asiatica together with investigating the antibacterial effects it exerts on several common respiratory infection causing bacteria including Haemophilus influenzae . Its mechanism of action was studied using various state-of-the-art assays like scanning electron microscopy, DNA, RNA and protein leakage assays, growth curve assays etc. The essential oil was extracted from the leaves of A. asiatica by supercritical CO 2 fluid extraction technology. Chemical composition of essential oils was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass-spectrometry (GC-MS). The antibacterial activity was evaluated against 6 bacteria by the paper disc diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericide concentration (MBC) values of the essential oil were estimated by agar dilution method. The antibacterial mechanism was evaluated by growth curve, the integrity of cell membrane and scanning electronmicroscope (SEM). Gas chromatographic analysis of the A. asiatica essential oil led to the identification of 16 chemical constituents accounting for 97.2% of the total oil composition. The major components were found to be Piperitone, (z)-davanone, p-cymene and 1, 8-cineole. The essential oil showed maximum growth inhibition against Haemophilus influenzae with a zone of inhibition of 24.5 mm and MIC/MBC values of 1.9/4.5 mg/mL respectively. Bacteria treated with the essential oil led to a rapid decrease in the number of viable cells. On adding the essential oil of A. asiatica to the bacterial culture, the constituents of the bacterial cell got released into the medium and this cell constituent release increased with increasing doses of the essential oil. Extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) are a group of enzymes that can hydrolyze a variety of β-lactams including fourth generation cephalosporins and compromise the efficacy of all β-lactams, except cephamycins and carbapenems. In the worldwide, the ESBL group of enzymes are found widely and causes a severe infection on human health which leads to various diseases. This review primarily focusses on analyzing the prevalence and drug resistance patterns in the African continent. From the earlier reported data shown only the minimal amount of surveillance information's has been summarized with respect to antimicrobial resistance on ESBLs producing Enterobacteriaceae both in hospital and community settings. To bring the present scenario in limelight, the present study explores the prevalence of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in various countries in Africa and specifically, to identify most common ESBL genes in hospital and community. The observation was initiated with the exhaustive literature search using PubMed and other databases to broaden the study from the earlier investigations in the African countries concerned about the prevalence rate of ESBL producing Enterobacteriacea e. Further, this study was extended to review various hypothesis of the hydrolytic mechanism, which was detailed by several authors performed earlier through computational approaches. Interestingly, the ESBLs class A and D were found to be common classes in Africa, with the gene CTX-M-15 being most prevalent. Notably, the present review highlights the prevalence on individual countries in Africa and it is extremely significant to prevent the dissemination of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceaea. Hence, this review on surveillance will be the benchmark to enhance the research on antimicrobial resistance patterns for all classes and genes. Furthermore, explored in-sights in this paper will be helpful for the further investigations to develop quicker, cost effective, and reliable diagnostic strategies and new effective therapies. The widespread use of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory has been more and more prominent. In spite of the proven pharmacological potential, its collateral effects are still being described. The fish oil is made of acids fatty polyunsaturated, as the omega 3. The aim of this paper is to check if there would be interference of this fish oil in the gut microbiota of rats when treated with dexamethasone and amoxicillin, joining with the parameter lipids and glycemic. This study was done with 42 Wistar rats, divided into 6 groups with 7 animals each: naive (CTL), amoxicillin (AMOX), dexamethasone (DEX), fish oil (OLP), associated amoxicillin and fish oil (AMOX + OLP) association dexamethasone and fish oil (DEX + OLP). The results show that the fish oil influenced in the concentration of blood glucose in the animals, keeping stable levels even after a pool of glucose. Differently, the fish oil increased the levels of LDL in the animals. The amoxicillin changed the mass of liver and spleen, changed the levels of triglyceride and changed the gut microbiota. The dexamethasone influenced the lipids parameters and mass of the spleen as well as it slightly increased the amount of cholesterol LDL. It is possible to conclude that fish oil increases the levels of LDL in the tested model and the dose tested, but is able to maintain glucose levels even after a pool of the same, and can be a preventive model with hyperglycemia. Mycobacterium tuberculosis ( Mtb ) is one of the most life-threatening mycobacterial species which is increasing the death rate due to emerging multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains. Concerned health authorities worldwide are interested in developing an effective vaccine to prevent the spread of Mtb . After years of research, including successful identification of many Mtb immunogenic molecules, effective therapeutic agents or a vaccine have yet to be found. However, among the identified Mtb immunogenes, antigen 85 (Ag85) complex (Ag85A, Ag85B, and Ag85C) is receiving attention from scientists as it allows bacteria to evade the host immune response by preventing formation of phagolysosomes for eradication of infection. Due to their importance, A85 molecules are being utilized as tools in diagnostic methods and in the construction of new vaccines, such as recombinant attenuated vaccines, DNA vaccines, and subunit vaccines. The possible role of Blastocystis sp. and Giardia lamblia infections in the development of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) has long been controversial. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate whether these protozoan infections are associated with IBS development. We systematically searched international databases for all studies that reported these protozoa in IBS patients published by May 10, 2021. Studies were included in the review if they were observational studies with confirmed patients with IBS (in case-control and cross-sectional studies) or parasitic infections (cohort studies) with an appropriate control group. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals were estimated using a random-effects meta-analysis model for included studies. A total of 32 papers (42 datasets), including 29 papers (31 datasets) for Blastocystis sp./IBS and 11 papers (11 datasets) for G. lamblia /IBS met the eligibility criteria. Our results indicated that the individuals with Blastocystis sp. infection were significantly at a higher risk of IBS development (OR, 1.78; 95%CI, 1.29–2.44). Moreover, cohort studies indicated a significant positive association between G. lamblia infection and IBS risk (OR, 5.47; 95%CI, 4.23–7.08); while an increasing but no statistically significant risk was observed in case-control studies (OR, 1.19; 95%CI, 0.75–1.87). Our findings suggested that Blastocystis sp. and G. lamblia infections are associated with the increased risk of developing IBS. Various categories of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) patients have exhibited major mortality rate differences and symptoms. Some papers have recently explained these differences in mortality rates and symptoms as a consequence of this virus infection acting in synergy with one or more latent pathogen infections in some patients. A latent pathogen infection likely to be involved in millions of these patients is the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii , which infects approximately one third of the global human population. However, other papers have concluded that latent protozoan parasite infections can reduce the severity of viral infections. The aims and purposes of this paper include providing explanations for the contradictions between these studies and introducing a significant new category of T-cell exhaustion. Latent pathogens can have different genetic strains with great differences in their effects on a second pathogen infection. Furthermore, depending on the timing and effectiveness of drug treatments, pathogen infections that become latent may or may not later induce immune cell dysfunctions, including T-cell exhaustion. In the attempt to reduce the negative impacts of chemical pesticides on environment and consumer's health, a new plant treatment practice minimizing the amount of pesticides needed during pests and diseases treatments has been developed. Our approach is based on combining the biocide effects of fungicide with the peroxyacetic acid (PAA) one. In this paper, we focused on the in vitro study of the antifungal activity of this combination against Botrytis cinerea , the most redoubtable threat of tomatoes plants in Morocco. First, different concentrations of a peroxyacetic acid product (PERACLEAN ® 5) and two commercially available fungicides SWITCH and SIGNUM were tested separately for their inhibitory effects on the mycelial growth and spores germination of B. cinerea . 100% inhibition of fungal growth was achieved using 16.77 and 14.47 μg/ml of SIGNUM and SWITCH respectively and 1.5% of PERACLEAN ® 5. When combined with 0.5% of the peroxyacetic acid mixture (PERACLEAN ® 5), the pesticides 100% effective concentrations decreased to 0.5 μg/ml for both pesticides. The paper presents the synthesis of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of macrocyclic Schiff base ligand derived from 1, 4-dicarbonyl-phenyl-dihydrazide and ethyl 3-oxobutanoate (2:2). The synthesized ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility measurements, FTIR, UV–Vis., mass 1 H NMR and X-ray diffraction. The Cu(II) complex exhibit distorted octahedral geometry, whereas an octahedral geometry is suggested for other complexes. The synthesized compounds were screened in vitro for their antimicrobial activities to evaluate their inhibiting potential against bacterial species Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus and fungal species include Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus fumingatus, and Candida albicans . The complexation led to a remarkable increase in antimicrobial activity. In addition, the antioxidant activity of the compounds was also investigated through scavenging effect on DPPH radicals. Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) serotype O157:H7 is a food-borne pathogen that younger children are most prone to this microorganism. Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) caused by EHEC, leads to the destruction of red blood cells and kidney failure. The virulence of E.coli O157:H7 is attributed to fimbriae, that facilitate colonization of bacteria within the colon and verotoxins (VT) or Shiga toxins (Stx) that are released into the blood. Although, in most cases, the infection is self-limitedin young children and aged population, it may cause HUS. Therefore, several investigations are performed in order to offer effective therapies and vaccines, which can prevent and treat the infection in appropriate time. As the pathogenesis of this infection is complicated, a multi-targeted strategy is required. Since cattle are the most important reservoir of EHEC and the root of contamination, reducing E. coli O157:H7 at the farm level should decrease the risk of human illness. Several vaccine approaches have been employed with different proper outcomes in animal models, including recombinant proteins (virulence factors such as; Stx1/2, intimin, EspA, fusion proteins of A and B Stx subunits), avirulent ghost cells of EHEC O157:H7, live attenuated bacteria expressing recombinant proteins, recombinant fimbrial proteins. In addition to protein-based vaccines, DNA vaccines have provided proper prevention in the laboratory animal model. DNA vaccination –a third generation vaccine-is a modern approach to stimulate humoral and cellular responses against different diseases such as infectious diseases, cancer and autoimmunity. These vaccines are composed of a gene that encodes sequences of a desired protein under control of a proper (eukaryotic or viral) promoter. Immune response following DNA vaccination is influenced by the route and the dose of injection. In addition, antigen presentation following DNA administration has three different mechanisms including antigen presentation by transfected myocytes, transfection of professional antigen presenting cells (APCs) and cross priming. Recently, it has been shown that bacterial toxins and their components can stimulate and enhance immune responses in experimental models. A study demonstrated that DNA fusion vaccine encoding the first domain (DOM) of the Fragment C (FrC) of tetanus neurotoxin (CTN) coupled with tumor antigen sequences is highly immunogenic against colon carcinoma. DNA toxin vaccines against infectious and autoimmune diseases are less studied until now. All in all, this novel approach has shown encouraging results in animal models, but it has to go through adequate clinical trials to ensure its effectiveness in human. However, it has been proven that these vaccines are safe, multifaceted and simple and can be used widely in organisms which may be of advantage to public health in the near future. The knowhow followed for synthesis, characterization and application of nanomaterials has become an important branch of nanoscience. The use of marine sponges for the synthesis of metal nanoparticles is still in the budding level of current nanobiotechnology. This paper reports a single step one pot biosynthesis utilizing marine sponge ( Haliclona exigua ) extract as a reducing agent by means of a conventional ultrasonic bath on the formation and growth of flower like silver nanocolloids. These silver nanocolloids were characterized through UV visible spectroscopy, High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy and X-ray Diffractometer. Further, antibacterial activity and antiproliferative activity were done against oral biofilm bacteria and oral cancer cell lines for the biosynthesized flower like silver nanocolloids. Water soluble organic amines were responsible for the syntheses of nanomaterials which have a size range from 100 to 120 nm. An average size of 9.1 mm zone of inhibition was recorded with 10.0 μg of silver nanocolloids against oral biofilm bacteria. This paper reports the innovative antibacterial activity of essential oils (EOs) from nine Myrcia ovata Cambessedes plants against eight foodborne bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus , Bacillus cereus , Bacillus subtilis , Enterococcus faecalis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were the most susceptible bacteria to EOs. In particular, the P . aeruginosa , which is usually resistant to antimicrobials agents, was extremely sensitive to some EOs. The gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria were inhibited and eliminated with minimum EOs concentrations ranging from 0.78 to 25 μL/mL. The Serratia marcensces and Escherichia coli were less susceptible to EOs alone. Consequently, some EOs combinations were investigated by checkerboard method against these bacteria and a synergistic effect was obtained. Myrcia ovata Cambessedes EOs showed high inhibitory and bactericidal effects against foodborne bacteria might be an interesting alternative for future applications as natural antimicrobials in food systems. This study aimed to investigate the presence of eight virulence genes (ace, asa1, esp, efaA, gelE, cylA, agg, fsr) in Enterococcus from a variety of animals and to explore the drug resistance and pathogenicity. This could provide a theoretical basis for clinical treatment of Enterococcus infections. Anal swabs from pigs, chickens, cattle, and dogs in farms and pet hospitals were collected for Enterococcus isolation and identification. Eight virulence genes were detected (PCR method), and drug resistance was assessed (drug-sensitive paper method). The strains containing different virulence genes were then divided into EV1, EV2, and EV3 groups. The L D 50 and pathogenicity was examined by intra-peritoneal injection to infect mice. Differences were found in the detection rates of virulence genes in Enterococcus from the different animals. The highest overall detection rate was for the esp gene (78.0%), and the lowest for the cylA gene (15.5%). Eight genes were detected most frequently in Enterococcus from dogs and least frequently from cattle. Among the Enterococcus strains from four variety of animals, drug resistance was highest against sulfamethoxazole (100%), cefotaxime (>97%), and cefotaxitin (>93%). Drug resistance was lowest against vancomycin (0%), levofloxacin (<12%) and ciprofloxacin (<13%). The L D 50 for each of the three groups was E V 1 L D 50 = 8.71 × 10 9 C F U ， E V 2 L D 50 = 2.34 × 10 10 C F U ，and E V 3 L D 50 = 9.33 × 10 10 C F U. The Enterococcus 1 2 L D 50 dose group caused significant clinical symptoms in mice, with pathological effects on the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys, and particularly on the urinary system. Melioidosis is endemic in Southeast Asia and northern Australia. The causative agent of melioidosis is a Gram-negative bacterium, Burkholderia pseudomallei. Its invasion can be fatal if melioidosis is not treated promptly. It is intrinsically resistant to a variety of antibiotics. In this paper, we present a comprehensive overview of the current trends on melioidosis cases, treatments, B. pseudomallei virulence factors, and molecular techniques to detect the bacterium from different samples. The clinical and microbial diagnosis methods of identification and detection of B. pseudomallei are commonly used for the rapid diagnosis and typing of strains, such as polymerase chain reaction or multi-locus sequence typing. The genotyping strategies and techniques have been constantly evolving to identify genomic loci linked to or associated with this human disease. More research strategies for detecting and controlling melioidosis should be encouraged and conducted to understand the current situation. Fungi are a common problem in the photographic collection, so the aim of this study focused on isolating and molecular identification of fungi from old albumen prints dating to an archive of Dr. Francis and belonging to the Al-Hagar Family and dating back to 1880–1890. The isolated fungi were identified according to their morphological traits and PCR sequencing. The ability of these isolates to cause deterioration was evaluated on model samples (2 × 2 cm) of albumen silver prints. The effect of these fungi on the morphology and structure of the tested samples were examined by SEM, ATR-FTIR, and chromatic alternations. Four fungal species Aspergillus sydowii , A. flavus , Talaromyces atroroseus , and Penicillium chrysogenum were identified. All isolates were able to grow on the surface of the model Albumen silver print and were capable of causing damage to the binder and able to extend their growth to the paper fibers. A. sydowii , A. flavus , and P. chrysogenum caused hydrolysis and oxidation to the albumen prints, while no significant chemical damage to the albumen was detected for the photographic sample infected with T. atroroseus. All the inoculated samples were significantly affected in terms of color change and the high-light areas have become darker. ATR-FTIR spectra showed the degradation of the protein content in Albumen silver prints inoculated with A. sydowii , A. flavus , and P. chrysogenum. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria have increased at an alarming rate over recent decades and cause serious problems. The emergence of resistant infections caused by these bacteria has led to mortality and morbidity; consequently there is an urgent need to find solution for combating bacterial resistance. In the present paper, first, some mechanisms of antibiotic resistance such as changing the antibacterial agent's uptake and biofilm formation are discussed. Following, for removing the antibacterial resistance, a wide range of approaches like developing new generations of antibiotics, combination therapy, natural antibacterial substances and applying nanoparticulate systems have been explained. The objective of this paper was to evaluate NTPDase and 5'-nucleotidase activities in platelets of bovine with and without spleen and infected by Anaplasma marginale . Our results demonstrate that infection along with splenectomy is able of inducing a profile of cellular protection, which showed an increase in the degradation of the nucleotides ATP and ADP by NTPDase, in addition to AMP by 5'nucleotidase to form the nucleoside adenosine in platelets, i.e., the enzymatic activities of platelets were increased in splenectomized animals when compared to non-splenectomized group. It notes that adenosine is a molecule with anti-inflammatory function. But this profile is related to a deficiency in immune signaling triggered by nucleotide ATP, which may be related to the increase in bacteremia and disability in combating the parasite in splenectomized host. Biofilms of Candida species are associated with high morbidity and hospital mortality. Candida forms biofilms by adhering to human host epithelium through cell wall proteins (CWP) and simultaneously neutralizing the reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced during the respiratory burst by phagocytic cells. The purpose of this paper is to identify the CWP of Candida albicans , Candida glabrata, Candida krusei and Candida parapsilosis expressed after exposure to different concentrations of H 2 O 2 using a proteomic approach. CWP obtained from sessile cells, both treated and untreated with the oxidizing agent, were resolved by one and two-dimensional (2D-PAGE) gels and identified by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis. Some of these proteins were identified and found to correspond to moonlighting CWP such as: (i) glycolytic enzymes, (ii) heat shock, (iii) OSR proteins, (iv) general metabolic enzymes and (v) highly conserved proteins, which are up- or down-regulated in the presence or absence of ROS. We also found that the expression of these CWP is different for each Candida species. Moreover, RT-PCR assays allowed us to demonstrate that transcription of the gene coding for Eno1, one of the moonlight-like CWP identified in response to the oxidant agent, is differentially regulated. To our knowledge this is the first demonstration that, in response to oxidative stress, each species of Candida , differentially regulates the expression of moonlighting CWP, which may protect the organism from the ROS generated during phagocytosis. Presumptively, these proteins allow the pathogen to adhere and form a biofilm, and eventually cause invasive candidiasis in the human host.
