This monograph presents a study of the most significant book in the history of anatomy, Fleming Andreas Vesalius'(1514-1564) De humani corporis fabrica. Vesalius'Fabrica was immediately recognised as changing the view of the human body when it was published in 1543, and it remains iconic today. Despite this, little has been written about Vesalius'later revisions and corrections to the work, as well as his annotations leading up to the book. The author addresses this lacuna by examining the Fabrica from its inception in Paris in the 1530s, through its publication in 1543, to subsequent revisions and its present status as an expensive treasure. The book also contains new discoveries about the period of Vesalius'earliest publications from 1537-8, the printing and production of the 1543 Fabrica, and the extensive remaking of the 1555 edition. Chapters also explore Vesalius'background in new humanist medicine and anatomical teaching in Paris and Italy, the verbal message that the Fabrica was intended to convey, and the immediate responses to the book.

Professor Riccardo Moratto and Professor Defeng Li present contributions focusing on the interdisciplinarity of corpus studies, with a special emphasis on literary and translation studies which offer a broad and varied picture of the promise and potential of methods and approaches. The ever-shifting terrain of Translation StudiesSince the inception of Translation Studies in the 1970s, its researchers have held regular metareflections. Largely based on the assessment of translation and interpreting as two distinct but related modes of language mediation, each with its own research culture, these intradisciplinary debates have sought to take stock of the state of research within an ever-expanding discipline in search of (institutional) identity and autonomy. Recharting Territories proposes a more widespread and systematic intradisciplinary approach to researching translational phenomena, one which can be applied at various analytical levels – theoretical, conceptual, methodological, pragmatic – and emphasize both similarities and differences between subdisciplines. This collection reflects on the state of the art of research into the use of translation technologies in the translation of creative texts, encompassing literary texts but also extending beyond to cultural texts, and charts their development and paths for further research.Bringing together perspectives from scholars across the discipline, the book considers recent trends and developments in technology that have spurred growing interest in the use of computer-aided translation (CAT) and machine translation (MT) tools in literary translation. Chapters examine the relationships between translators and these tools—the extent to which they already use such technologies, the challenges they face, and prevailing attitudes towards these tools—as well as the ethical implications of such technologies in translation practice. Corpus-based contrastive and translation research are areas that keep evolving in the digital age, as the range of new corpus resources and tools expands, opening up to different approaches and application contexts. The current book contains a selection of papers which focus on corpora and translation research in the digital age, outlining some recent advances and explorations. After an introductory chapter which outlines language technologies applied to translation and interpreting with a view to identifying challenges and research opportunities, the first part of the book is devoted to current advances in the creation of new parallel corpora for under-researched areas, the development of tools to manage parallel corpora or as an alternative to parallel corpora, and new methodologies to improve existing translation memory systems.The contributions in the second part of the book address a number of cutting-edge linguistic issues in the area of contrastive discourse studies and translation analysis on the basis of comparable and parallel corpora in several languages such as English, German, Swedish, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish, thus showcasing the richness of the linguistic diversity carried out in these recent investigations. Given the multiplicity of topics, methodologies and languages studied in the different chapters, the book will be of interest to a wide audience working in the fields of translation studies, contrastive linguistics and the automatic processing of language.

Prefazione di Gianni Canova Il giornalista Igor Righetti, cugino di Alberto Sordi, ha scritto questo libro inedito sulla vita privata del suo illustre parente in occasione del centenario della sua nascita che farà scoprire, per la prima volta, chi fosse Sordi fuori dal set e dalle apparizioni televisive ufficiali. Svela, inoltre, le tante menzogne raccontate su di lui. Il volume, unico sia per gli aneddoti e le curiosità sia per le foto esclusive provenienti dagli album di famiglia e da Reporters Associati & Archivi, presenta anche le testimonianze di alcuni cugini dell'attore: da parte della madre Maria Righetti e del padre Pietro Sordi. Ci sono, inoltre, i ricordi inediti di alcuni suoi amici, amori e personaggi del cinema e della tv con i quali lavorò. Tra questi, Rino Barillari, Pippo Baudo, Patrizia de Blanck (con la quale Sordi ebbe una love story), Elena de Curtis (nipote di Totò), Sandra Milo, Sabrina Sammarini (figlia di Anna Longhi) e Rosanna Vaudetti. Il libro viene arricchito con il CD della prima canzone dedicata a Sordi Alberto nostro, della quale Igor Righetti è autore e compositore con Samuele Socci. Un piacevole volume utile anche alle nuove generazioni perché la memoria storica di un grande attore come Alberto Sordi non vada perduta e, al contrario, rigeneri.

Dall'Introduzione di Massimo Osanna Con il volume di Fabrizio Pesando e Marco Giglio prosegue la pubblicazione dei risultati dellimportante Progetto Regio VI. I primi secoli di Pompei, un intervento interuniversitario avviato nel 2000 dagli Atenei di Napoli LOrientale, Perugia, Trieste, Venezia e Siena, che - per la prima volta nella città, operavano congiuntamente insieme alla Soprintendenza per la conoscenza di unarea urbana. Lo studio rientra in quel fiorente periodo di studi e ricerche, promosso da Pier Giovanni Guzzo nel 1997 che mirava alla conoscenza delle fasi più antiche di Pompei. Un percorso di ricerca fondamentale anche per fornire alla Soprintendenza dati imprescindibili per poter programmare interventi di tutela e conservazione. A differenza però dei precedenti volumi, Rileggere Pompei V esce dai limiti topografici della Regio VI per concentrarsi su unarea poco nota della città, il settore nord-orientale, al fine di verificare se quanto era stato ipotizzato relativamente alle modalità di sviluppo del tessuto urbano per la Regio VI poteva essere valido anche in questa zona, caratterizzata da insulae atipiche per forma e dimensioni. A partire da queste riflessioni gli Autori, attraverso un percorso graduale in cui il dato analitico di ogni singola struttura muraria si ricompone in una sintesi storica-urbanistica, esplorano il rapporto tra abitazioni e botteghe che formavano linsula nonché anche quello tra linsula intesa nella sua complessità spaziale e diacronica con i confinanti assi viari, in particolare con il vicolo di Tesmo e via dellAbbondanza. Le ricerche sono state condotte con la stessa metodologia innovativa presentata nel dettaglio nel precedente volume di questa Collana: rilievo di tutte le evidenze, esaustiva ricerca darchivio, studio stratigrafico degli elevati e verifica con saggi stratigrafici mirati delle situazioni più complesse e difficilmente interpretabili. Lefficacia di tale metodo è evidente negli importanti risultati che emergono dalla lettura di questo corposo volume, le cui molteplici novità toccano ambiti di ricerca diversi ma complementari, a conferma, se ce ne fosse bisogno, dellapproccio globale messo in atto nello studio di questo settore della città. Dalla ricostruzione diacronica del tessuto urbano allo sviluppo dellarchitettura domestica, dagli studi epigrafici allanalisi di tutti i reperti mobili, non più solo il vasellame ceramico ma la cultura materiale nella sua totalità, dal più piccolo e umile chiodo in ferro ai preziosi arredi marmorei, ricontestualizzando anche quanto ora conservato al Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli.[...]

Questo è un libro sul cinema come abitualmente non se ne leggono, per la semplice ragione che non ne vengono scritti. Parte da lunghe conversazioni fra Tatti Sanguineti e uno dei personaggi forse meno noti, ma più singolari e influenti del cinema italiano nel periodo d'oro: Rodolfo Sonego, sceneggiatore di tutti i film maggiori di Alberto Sordi, dal'Vedovo'a'Una vita difficile'allo'Scopone scientifico'. Ricostruisce, attraverso la rievocazione di volta in volta malinconica, sorridente, abrasiva, feroce di Sonego, molte delle vicende accadute in quell'immane circo le cui attrazioni erano la Mangano, la Lollo o Laura Antonelli, i cui domatori potevano chiamarsi Carlo Ponti o Federico Fellini, e il cui impresario occulto, ben nascosto dietro le quinte, era il suo primo censore: Giulio Andreotti. Lascia intendere come, di qualsiasi viaggio in Italia, una lunga sosta nel cervello di Alberto Sordi continui a essere una tappa estremamente formativa. Ma soprattutto, una battuta dopo l'altra, ci racconta un cinema molto diverso, e molto più sontuoso, di quello che vediamo in sala: una colossale fantasmagoria di aneddoti, chiacchiere a notte fonda in stadi decrescenti di lucidità, fantasticherie su film da fare, sceneggiature per film mai fatti, rulli perduti e fortunosamente ritrovati, scene tagliate e poi, miracolosamente, ricomparse. In altre parole, una meravigliosa riserva di storie, di cui solo quel cacciatore solitario e ossessionato che è Tatti Sanguineti sembra conoscere tutti i segreti.
