We present a novel metric for measuring relative connection between parts of a city using geotagged Twitter data as a proxy for co-occurrence of city residents. We find that socioeconomic similarity is a significant predictor of this connectivity metric, which we call "linkage strength": neighborhoods that are similar to one another in terms of residents' median income, education level, and (to a lesser extent) immigration history are more strongly connected in terms of the of people who spend time there, indicating some level of homophily in the way that individuals choose to move throughout a city's districts.

This article presents results of research This article presents an excerpt from a doctoral thesis that researched on the manner of organizing Chemistry teacher training courses in the State of Minas Gerais, based on the formative dimensions necessary for professional development and teacher’s work. In this text, we focus on the 'basic and disciplinary conceptual dimension' and the 'instrumental, technical and practical dimension' in order to outline the profile of the Chemistry Licentiate Degree courses studied and making inferences about the possibilities and training needs that encompass in the construction of teacher’s professional identity. Therefore, we analyzed the pedagogical projects of the Chemistry Licentiate Degree course of three federal public universities of the mentioned State with regard to the organization of their pedagogical proposals and their curricular matrices. We identified that one of the courses tends to offer teacher education with bachelor's degree characteristics, reverberating in restrictions to the construction of the teaching identity. The other two courses, despite the need for some adjustments in their pedagogical proposals, provide for the constitution of the Chemistry teacher’s professional identity.

Two strategies based on multivariate qualitative and quantitative analysis are proposed for determining whether paprika samples are adulterated with Sudan I or II dyes. The samples were characterized by their UV–visible spectrum. Then, the following chemometric techniques were applied: principal component analysis (PCA) for the data exploration stage, partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) for the qualitative strategy and partial least squares (PLS) for the Sudan quantification strategy. Three classes were considered in the qualitative analysis: unadulterated, adulterated with Sudan I and adulterated with Sudan II. For the quantitative analysis, models were developed for each adulterant in a concentration range of 0–12 mg g−1, where 0 mg g−1 stands for the unadulterated samples. Both strategies gave satisfactory results. The multi-class PLS-DA model properly differentiate between the three types of studied samples: non-adulterated and adulterated with Sudan I and with Sudan II. Only samples at the lowest concentration (1 mg g−1) were wrongly detected as unadulterated. The PLS models were validated by setting the regression line of the model-predicted concentration versus the real concentration for the test set samples. The slope and intercept of each regression line were compared with those of the ideal line (0, 1) by means of the joint test of ordinate and slope.

Proceeding of: 2020 Mediterranean Communication and Computer Networking Conference (MedComNet), Aroa, Italy, 17-19 June 2020 In this paper, we investigate the existence and prevalence of comparable dynamics in the temporal fluctuations for the traffic demands generated by mobile applications. To this end, we hinge upon a spectral analysis framework, by computing Discrete Fourier Transforms of the typical demands for tens of popular mobile services observed in an operational metropolitan-scale network. We filter, cluster, and analyse hundreds of frequency components, and identify a substantial set of regular patterns that are common across most service demands. We also unveil how several mobile services defy classification, and have instead highly distinguishing temporal dynamics. The economic sustainability of future mobile networks will largely depend on the strong specialization of its offered services. Network operators will need to provide added value to their tenants, by moving from the traditional one-size-fits-all strategy to a set of virtual end-to-end instances of a common physical infrastructure, named network slices , which are especially tailored to the requirements of each application. Implementing network slicing has significant consequences in terms of resource management: service customization entails assigning to each slice fully dedicated resources, which may also be dynamically reassigned and overbooked in order to increase the cost-efficiency of the system. In this paper, we adopt a data-driven approach to quantify the efficiency of resource sharing in future sliced networks. Building on metropolitan-scale real-world traffic measurements, we carry out an extensive parametric analysis that highlights how diverse performance guarantees, technological settings, and slice configurations impact the resource utilization at different levels of the infrastructure in presence of network slicing. Our results provide insights on the achievable efficiency of network slicing architectures, their dimensioning, and their interplay with resource management algorithms at different locations and reconfiguration timescales. Proceeding of: MobiCom '18: The 24th Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking, New Delhi, India, October 29 - November 2, 2018 By providing especially tailored instances of a virtual network, network slicing allows for a strong specialization of the offered services on the same shared infrastructure. Network slicing has profound implications on resource management, as it entails an inherent trade-off between: (i) the need for fully dedicated resources to support service customization, and (ii) the dynamic resource sharing among services to increase resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the system. In this paper, we provide a first investigation of this trade-off via an empirical study of resource management efficiency in network slicing. Building on substantial measurement data collected in an operational mobile network (i) we quantify the efficiency gap introduced by non-reconfigurable allocation strategies of different kinds of resources, from radio access to the core of the network, and (ii) we quantify the advantages of their dynamic orchestration at different timescales. Our results provide insights on the achievable efficiency of network slicing architectures, their dimensioning, and their interplay with resource management algorithms. We would like to thank the shepherd and reviewers for their valuable comments and feedback. Proceeding of: 13th International Conference on emerging Networking EXperiments and Technologies (CoNEXT '17) We investigate how individual mobile services are consumed at a national scale, by studying data collected in a 3G/4G mobile network deployed over a major European country. Through correlation and clustering analyses, our study unveils a strong heterogeneity in the demand for different mobile services, both in time and space. In particular, we show that: (i) somehow surprisingly, almost all considered services exhibit quite different temporal usage patterns; (ii) in contrast to such temporal behavior, spatial patterns are fairly uniform across all services; (iii) when looking at usage patterns at different locations, the average traffic volume per user is dependent on the urbanization level, yet its temporal dynamics are not. Our findings do not only have sociological implications, but are also relevant to the orchestration of network resources. This research work has been performed in the framework of the H2020-ICT-2014-2 project 5G NORMA (Grant Agreement No. 671584).

Objective: To evaluate pulmonary function and functional capacity in children and adolescents with sickle cell disease. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving 70 children and adolescents (8-15 years of age) with sickle cell disease who underwent pulmonary function tests (spirometry) and functional capacity testing (six-minute walk test). The results of the pulmonary function tests were compared with variables related to the severity of sickle cell disease and history of asthma and of acute chest syndrome. Results: Of the 64 patients who underwent spirometry, 15 (23.4%) showed abnormal results: restrictive lung disease, in 8 (12.5%); and obstructive lung disease, in 7 (10.9%). Of the 69 patients who underwent the six-minute walk test, 18 (26.1%) showed abnormal results regarding the six-minute walk distance as a percentage of the predicted value for age, and there was a ≥ 3% decrease in SpO2 in 36 patients (52.2%). Abnormal pulmonary function was not significantly associated with any of the other variables studied, except for hypoxemia and restrictive lung disease. Conclusions: In this sample of children and adolescents with sickle cell disease, there was a significant prevalence of abnormal pulmonary function. The high prevalence of respiratory disorders suggests the need for a closer look at the lung function of this population, in childhood and thereafter.

Use of breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect breast cancer has generated significant debate. We analyze the role of breast MRI in the detection of additional disease and the need to perform additional biopsies in early breast carcinoma patients. In addition, we correlate the detection of new foci with tumor pathological features.Early breast carcinoma patients that had undergone an MRI as well as a mammography as diagnostic procedures were included in the study. The following pathologic features were studied: carcinoma type, histological grade, estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR), HER2 and Ki67. Univariate analysis was conducted to ascertain significant correlation among detection of new foci and each of the tumor pathological features.Data from 98 patients have been analyzed: median age 49 years (range 35-79); carcinoma type: (a) infiltrative ductal carcinoma (n = 73, 74 %), (b) infiltrative lobular cancer (n = 12, 12 %), (c) ductal carcinoma in situ (n = 6, 6 %); amplified HER2 (n = 18, 18 %); grade III (n = 33, 33 %); Ki67 ≥ 25 % (n = 33, 33.67 %); positive ER and PR (n = 79, 80 %); triple negative tumors (n = 8, 8 %). MRI detected additional disease in 38 cases (39.58 %), and 20 led to an additional biopsy (20.4 %). Thirty-eight patients (39 %) underwent mastectomy. We found a statistically significant correlation between new foci in MRI and high Ki67 ≥ 25 % (p0.005). No other statistically significant correlation was established.MRI detected additional disease in 39 % cases, requiring an additional biopsy 20 %. Tumors with high proliferative index were significantly correlated with the detection of new foci in MRI.

Two data fusion strategies (high- and mid-level) combined with a multivariate classification approach (Soft Independent Modelling of Class Analogy, SIMCA) have been applied to take advantage of the synergistic effect of the information obtained from two spectroscopic techniques: FT-Raman and NIR. Mid-level data fusion consists of merging some of the previous selected variables from the spectra obtained from each spectroscopic technique and then applying the classification technique. High-level data fusion combines the SIMCA classification results obtained individually from each spectroscopic technique. Of the possible ways to make the necessary combinations, we decided to use fuzzy aggregation connective operators. As a case study, we considered the possible adulteration of hazelnut paste with almond. Using the two-class SIMCA approach, class 1 consisted of unadulterated hazelnut samples and class 2 of samples adulterated with almond. Models performance was also studied with samples adulterated with chickpea. The results show that data fusion is an effective strategy since the performance parameters are better than the individual ones: sensitivity and specificity values between 75% and 100% for the individual techniques and between 96-100% and 88-100% for the mid- and high-level data fusion strategies, respectively.

The present investigation objectified analyzes the limits and possibilities formatted of webquest to introduce the research on teaching formation on chemistry. For so, we started from the research choiced from Demo (1997; 2002) Maldaner (2000) and Galiazzi (2003) that pointed, between others characteristics of research job, the new elaboration of knowledge by the allowing that by himself assume how author of your formation, I mean, it´s capable of build knowledge from own initiating, learning how to learn. The investigation occur on discipline context of supervised curricular probation in chemistry IV from a licenciature in chemistry from Itumbiara GO. Opted for one investigation of qualitative kind, ruled on case studying, for develop on natural scene, reach on a descriptive scenery, reach on a descriptive data, focus on process and the variables that interfere on the research way. To catch and register the data were used the questionnaire, recording in audio and camp notes. The analyses shows that the elaboration of webquest become possible the development of capacities ah abilities needed to the research: the search and the new construction of the knowledge. But the academician present difficult to the decisions and dependence to models and standard to be followed. The result indicate the necessity of this abort during the initial formation of the teacher for the same become better your practice on research to your context and become a researcher. The webquest produced were changed, seen that some groups showed bigger interest and dedication, once that the work with the research need a give a bigger time to study and base. How consequence, the webquest sows the meaning potency on research teaching formation to become possible the use of informations available on building of knowledge from an emancipated form. Meanwhile we should detach that this is a process that once mobilized on initial formation, must be extend during all the existence and teacher practice with different formative strategy. To study the relation of positive(pos) SN and mMTS or ITC in negative(neg) SN at surgery with tumor pathological(pathol) features (grade;carcinoma type;Ki67;Her2;hormonal status;tumor size). Methods: Cohort of 271 patients with clinically and ultrasonographically node-neg pT1-2 breast cancer and high grade or extended intraductal who received breast cancer surgery with SN biopsy alone in the last 2 years was studied. No previous chemotherapy was administered. Hormone(ER/RP) and Ki67 status were analyzed by inmunohistochemistry(IHC) while HER2 by FISH. Presence of mMTS and ITC were studied by IHC(AE1-AE3). Statistical analysis was conducted to ascertain significant relation among pos-SN or detection of mMTS/ITC in neg-SN and each of the tumor pathol features (test U-Mann-Whitney). Results: Data from 263 patients were analyzed (28 pos-SN;235 neg-SN;8 technique failures). Carcinoma type: Ductal (158;60%);lobular (46;17.5%);in-situ(53;20.2%);others(6;2.3%). Infiltrative cancer:(56% grade 2;20% grade 3;10% Her2+;9% triple-neg;81% pos-RE/RP). In-situ:(28% grade 2;64% grade 3;39% Her2+;55% pos-RE/RP). Mean pathological size 16.2mm(1-118) for infiltrative tumor and 20.1mm(1-90) for in-situ. Mean of SN found at surgery 1.98(1-5). In neg-SN, 35 cases with mMTS(14;6.2%) or ITC(21;9.2%) were found. No statistically significant relation was established between the finding of mMTS or ITC and any of the pathol features at in-situ or infiltrative tumors. In pos-SN a statistically significant relation between pos-SN and pathol size was found (p=0.003; mean pathol size 20.16mm and 15.69mm for pos and neg-SN). Conclusions: A significant relation was established with pathol size and pos-SN. In patients with neg-SN no significant relationship was found between detection of mMTS or ITC and the pathol features of the tumor.

Introduction Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) amplification is frequent in ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast and is associated with poorly differentiated tumors and adverse prognosis features. This study aimed to determine the molecular effects of the HER2 inhibitor lapatinib in patients with HER2 positive DCIS. Methods Patients with HER2 positive DCIS received 1,500 mg daily of lapatinib for four consecutive weeks prior to surgical resection. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to determine changes in tumor volume. The molecular effects of lapatinib on HER2 signaling (PI3K/AKT and RAS/MAPK pathways), cell proliferation (Ki67 and p27) and apoptosis (TUNEL) were determined in pre and post-lapatinib treatment samples. Results A total of 20 patients were included. Lapatinib was well tolerated with only minor and transient side effects. The agent effectively modulated HER2 signaling decreasing significantly pHER2 and pERK1 expression, together with a decrease in tumor size evaluated by MRI. There was no evidence of changes in Ki67. Conclusions Four weeks of neoadjuvant lapatinib in patients with HER2-positive DCIS resulted in inhibition of HER2 and RAS/MAPK signaling pathway. - Abstract
Oxytocin is a neuropeptide that is important for maternal physiology and childcare, including parturition and milk ejection during nursing1–6. Suckling triggers the release of oxytocin, but other sensory cues—specifically, infant cries—can increase the levels of oxytocin in new human mothers7, which indicates that cries can activate hypothalamic oxytocin neurons. Here we describe a neural circuit that routes auditory information about infant vocalizations to mouse oxytocin neurons. We performed in vivo electrophysiological recordings and photometry from identified oxytocin neurons in awake maternal mice that were presented with pup calls. We found that oxytocin neurons responded to pup vocalizations, but not to pure tones, through input from the posterior intralaminar thalamus, and that repetitive thalamic stimulation induced lasting disinhibition of oxytocin neurons. This circuit gates central oxytocin release and maternal behaviour in response to calls, providing a mechanism for the integration of sensory cues from the offspring in maternal endocrine networks to ensure modulation of brain state for efficient parenting.Experiments in mice identify a neural circuit that relays information about infant cries from the maternal auditory thalamus to hypothalamic oxytocin neurons to induce the release of oxytocin and modulate maternal behaviour. Assessing the neurological and behavioral effects of drugs is important in developing pharmacological treatments, as well as understanding the mechanisms associated with neurological disorders. Herein, we present a miniaturized, wireless neural probe system with the capability of delivering drugs for the real-time investigation of the effects of the drugs on both behavioral and neural activities in socially interacting mice. We demonstrate wireless drug delivery and simultaneous monitoring of the resulting neural, behavioral changes, as well as the dose-dependent and repeatable responses to drugs. Furthermore, in pairs of mice, we use a food competition assay in which social interaction was modulated by the delivery of the drug, and the resulting changes in their neural activities are analyzed. During modulated food competition by drug injection, we observe changes in neural activity in mPFC region of a participating mouse over time. Our system may provide new opportunities for the development of studying the effects of drugs on behaviour and neural activity. Technologies for monitoring electrophysiological effects of drugs in behaving animals have limitations. Here the authors report a wireless neural probe system with drug delivery capability for real-time monitoring of drug effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Oxytocin (OXT) and arginine vasopressin (AVP) support a broad range of behaviors and homeostatic functions including sex-specific and context-appropriate social behaviors. Although the alterations of these systems have been linked with social-related disorders such as autism spectrum disorder, their formation and developmental dynamics remain largely unknown. Using novel brain clearing techniques and 3D imaging, we have reconstructed the specification of oxytocinergic and vasopressinergic circuits in the developing mouse brain with unprecedented cellular resolution. A systematic quantification indicates that OXT and AVP neurons in the hypothalamus display distinctive developmental dynamics and high cellular plasticity from embryonic to early postnatal stages. Our findings reveal new insights into the specification and consolidation of neuropeptidergic systems in the developing CNS. Madrigal and Jurado use brain clearing techniques and 3D imaging to generate high-resolution reconstructions of oxytocinergic and vasopressinergic circuits in the developing mouse brain, which are known to play a crucial role in social behaviours. They provide insight into the specification and consolidation of these circuits from embryonic to early postnatal stages of development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By providing especially tailored instances of a virtual network, network slicing allows for a strong specialization of the offered services on the same shared infrastructure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The economic sustainability of future mobile networks will largely depend on the strong specialization of its offered services. Network operators will need to provide added value to their tenants, by moving from the traditional one-size-fits-all strategy to a set of virtual end-to-end instances of a common physical infrastructure, named network slices, which are especially tailored to the requirements of each application.
