Abstract

An analysis of eight species of Mediterranean fish Scomber japonicus, Boops boops, Mullus barbatus, Mullus surm uletus, Merluccius merluccius, Pagelius erythrinus, Pagrus pagrus and Sparus aurata reveals that they are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids of both n-3 and n-6 varieties which reduce coronary heart diseases. The high fat content of these fish and the presence of saturated fatty acids categorize them as highly nutritional foods.
