Abstract

The article focuses on the consequences of the 2010 U.S. Department of Agriculture Dietary Guidelines to the food industry and consumers in the U.S. It notes that the guidelines pose additional health challenges due to underconsume of amounts of nutritional products including vegetables, fruits and whole grains. It mentions that the guidelines pose challenges to the agricultural supply chain because it needs an 8.9 million acres of cropland to support the vegetable intake recommendation.
